The ambiance is warm and cozy, with books lining most of the walls -- a dream for any book lover. It has a relaxed, inviting vibe that made our celebration feel extra special. The brunch buffet was impressive: well-stocked, fresh, and thoughtfully curated with a variety of both breakfast and lunch items. Had a fun Happy Hour with my husband on Halloween evening. The beers were a good price and they had drink specials on Well and Wine drinks. The bar food was good, especially the wings and Sliders. I've been coming to the jester since I was in diapers. Both of my uncles were bar tenders in the late 70's-80's. I have come here with school friends, family, large groups, small groups, alone, I've been here literally with all the important people in my life. All I can say is I really miss the vibe that the old decorations provided but appreciate the renovation and the fact it's still there. I'm so comforted by having a single glass of wine here even by myself at the bar. Service is always perfectly fine I've never had a problem not even once. Let's start with the service, the restaurant was very busy but Brianna made sure we didn't have to wait for anything and was very friendly. She also checked on us when our food came out to see if we needed anything! I had the perfect Irish coffee which was very good but I asked if they could just put it in a normal coffee cup because I wanted more coffee haha. The T bone steak was cooked perfect medium rare and was so good! We ended with the double devil dessert which we couldn't even finish because it was such a big portion. If you are coming here to drink beer, eat bar food, and/or watch a game then this is the place for you. Otherwise take your palate elsewhere! The chicken wings and cajun fries were the only okay items I can mention. The burger I ordered tasted burnt and was dry. The chicken in the sandwich tasted like rubber while the eggplant was cut very thin. All in all not an enjoyable dining experience but the menu does fair perfectly as bar food. read more

3.5 stars! This is my second time visiting Court Jester on a Saturday since after Covid (late afternoon, early evening). Both times, there wasn't a wait, but we chose to sit at the bar. Both times we had the same service experience. In terms of the aesthetic, it definitely has a more dated design inside... remind me of a "study," but it seems like that's what they're going for. Prior to Covid, there was a large "grazing station" salad bar that would put buffets to shame. This is now removed and the space just seems vacant. The bartenders are quiet, but prompt. We did have to ask both times for refills & menus on our own. The beer was cold and my margarita had more of a sour mix taste, so I opted for a tequila soda round two. (I wouldn't order a margarita there again.) For my meal, I ordered two apps (waffle fries with cheese and mac and cheese bites) and my friend ordered a salad and then a prime rib for their meal- with mushrooms, onions, and a baked potato. The service was the biggest downfall here, because the bartenders were also the food runners. My friend had to ask for their salad twice after we were waiting for around thirty minutes at this point, because they did not want their salad to come out with their meal. The bartender replied "oh, no one brought it out?" Then, went to the back to ask for it (had to do this twice). The salad was large- easily could feed two people and we felt the $8 price point was justified due to the large size. In terms of meals, my apps were good. The mac and cheese bites were definitely not homemade, but good & the fries were hot. I had to ask 3x times for bbq sauce with my fries- again, because the bartenders were the ones that were running around to get the food. The prime rib was a large cut and cooked well. They brought out shrimp with it (which we didn't order), but just kept. Overall, we both felt the food was great for the price point, but the service could use a little work as it seems the bartenders were extended by trying to run food as well. (I do want to note, it was crowded, but not a full bar.) So, I would recommend if you're eating to sit at a table. We'd definitely be back for some apps, but would most likely sit at a table moving forward! read more

Came it to try "New Jerseys Best Wings". They're not even the best wings in this shopping center. I would definitely take that claim off the website. Tried the buffalo and mango habanero wings and were maybe a generous 4 out of 10. Also had a burrito which I think Taco Bell probably makes a better one. This place is like an old Applebees that forgot to renovate. Friendly staff and bartender. I most likely will not be back. 2 thumbs down. read more

The food here is amazing!! I have been to the Matawan location a few times now and every time I try something new and nothing is disappointing. Their chicken quesadillas are amazing their Bergers and wings are amazing!! The waiters are very friendly, the manager came by to check on us a couple of times and was very friendly and helped us with anything we needed awesome guy! Long before this review was written, I had eaten here plenty of times since my mother works really close to here. The food is always good as is the service. You cannot complain about the prices. Sure, some of the menu items are a bit pricey, but others are on point. The portions back up the prices at Court Jester. You will not feel cheated in any way. In addition, the drink prices are fair too. They also taste pretty good! Their "grazing station" or their salad bar, is absolutely fantastic. There is something for everyone and you can really get a satisfying meal out of it. Their Sunday brunch is also worth trying out. If you want a bonus, you are really close to Sundae's! Previously known as Ice Cream Palace, the ice cream is pretty good! I recommend. read more

This review reflects more of their business practices more than the food. The food is okay. I have been there a few times, and it was edible. Nothing to write home about. I do have neighbors who like to go there so I usually buy them gift cards to Court Jester. During the Christmas season they have a special offer: Buy a $30.00 gift card and get $10.00 free. I have bought these for a few years, including this one. However, when I looked at my receipt there was a charge of .90 for a "Non Cash charge." I found this deceptive and very galling. There was no sign that stated that Court Jester would place this charge if you used a debit/credit card. I go out of my way to support local businesses but when they do things like this, it makes me not want to spend money at their establishments. So if you are thinking about going there, just beware. read more

I should also point out that when you order the wings, the hotness/heat of the wings depends on who is cooking on that shift. And I only found that out because I noticed a huge difference when I ordered them last and I asked the bartender on duty.... That is when I could even get one of bartenders attention. That is not acceptable. This place has horrible food and don't even get me started with the employees. Even the chicken fingers tastes, off. The wait staff and the bartenders tend to forget about you. The TVs at the bar are so high up, its ridiculous. Why do I think this place will ever change. read more

I came here for a birthday lunch with a group of coworkers and was very happy with the food and service. It was my first time coming to Court Jester and the restaurant itself is so cute. It has a homey decor and the walls make it feel like you're in the study of a large home. We were seated and quickly tended to. We decided we were going to split a bunch of appetizers and ordered the large buffalo wings, beef nachos, cheeseburger sliders, and pulled pork sliders. For our group it was plenty of food. The nachos were great and came with a bowl of beef chili. They had the perfect amount of cheese and were flavorful. The wings were crisp and also very good. I was also a big fan of the pulled pork slider. Everything was a hit because there was nothing left. I also want to call out the service. Our server was prompt and got the food out quickly. She brought us extra napkins and we got the check taken care of right away. This restaurant is tucked away in the plaza but a must stop. I'll definitely be back! read more

Beer taps are not clean...we went to the Court Jester on January 10th to watch football. The bar was empty due to Covid...we ordered a few drsft beers and learned they were out of Miller Lite so we ordered Yueling on draft..about 30 mins later we were sick from the dirty tap beer. I understand the restaurant is not busy due to Covid, but the restaurant is not maintaining the cleaning of the taps...... if you go...drink bottles. The court jester in Matawan should be on Bar re Rescue...This place desperately needs help .. read more

Turkey "Burger Tuesday" is my favorite day to go to the Jester. I love myself a good beef hamburger, but the turkey burger option is a steal. For $6.50 you get the burger plus chips or add like $2 extra dollars for the choose of fries. What do I like about the turkey burger? Well, it tastes delicious and it is good for your cholesterol. Also when you throw in the side of waffle fries, the ratio between healthy and unhealthy choices balances out. Being that I am a huge honey mustard fan, I recommend asking for that on the side to tip off the complete turkey burger experience. Can't beat that, eh? read more

This was the perfect place for a laid back meal with some friends. The menu ranges over a wide variety from wings to scallops to potstickers. As for the bar, they have everything and anything including local unknown jersey beers. To start we got a whiskey sour and a red sangria, both of which were fabulous and finished before dinner even came out. For appetizers, we got the mango habanero wings and chicken potstickers. The mango habanero wings were the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. While the size was plenty, it leaves you wanting more. The potstickers were also very good, crispy and flavorful while served with a stirfry mix of vegetables. For entrees, we got the chicken caprese sandwich and the hot and spicy chicken wrap. Both were extremely fresh, flavorful, and large and in charge. We left feeling completely statisfied and excited to come again. read more

I was a long time member of the Court Jester, visiting every day for drinks and dinner. Then an incident occurred with a family member, the owner Mike, threw him out and then proceeded to take his anger out on myself. I spoke with like a man face to face and he did not want to hear anything and told me I was out also. To be honest I did nothing except spend a large amount of money daily. He also had a married son bartender who one early morning decided that one of the waitresses looked good. That's all I need to say about that. Mike thinks he God, but one day he will learn the customer is always right. So lots of luck, I was not the last to be thrown out nor was I the first. I curbed my violent behavior but maybe the next young man will not. I would never recommend this place to anyone. There are a lot of people that agree. read more

I recently tried the Court Jester Restaurant as I had never been there despite living in Matawan 15 years. I am vegan and my kids are vegetarian so we often don't go out to too many restaurants as choices for us are limited but I happened to notice that this restaurant serves "The Impossible burger" (vegan) and also has a pretty decent selection of vegetarian items that my kids would like - such as chips and salsa, salads and pizza. So we tried the place out on a Sunday night - and kids actually ate free, which was awesome. The wait staff was really nice the food was good. I mean, it's not health food but a good pizza, burger and fries kinda place. Also I guess since Sunday night is a kids eat free night - they had a kids magician going around to the tables. His name was Buddy -- and my kids loved him -- he made them balloon animals and was really so nice -- We'll definitely go back :) read more
