My son and I were looking for a family Italian restaurant. Not a chain. He suggested Mama D's and we both loved it. The staff was so sweet and actually were happy to be working. The owner Chris came and chatted with us. We met his youngest daughter who was so sweet and will be a powerhouse business women. Our server Alex was so sweet, great service, and very attentive. This place will be our new go to restaurant. Made me very happy to see a family business doing good. The portions were big, bread was amazing plus they gave us chocolate chip cookies. We've been regulars here, but unfortunately, we just had our worst experience and probably won't be coming back. We ordered a Caesar salad ($13) with chicken ($9 extra), and it came on an appetizer plate with a few pieces of sad chicken. Salad itself is also very much below average. For $22, it just doesn't fell right. We also ordered the meat sauce pasta and a small vegetarian salad. The pasta was good, but the pizza was quite disappointing. I'm not sure what happened, but the overall experience has really gone downhill. It's sad to see. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back. read more

Excellent customer service, everyone from the host, waiters to the people cleaning the tables were very friendly and helpful. Arrived right before dinner and got a table immediately. 30 minutes later the dinner rush started to arrive and the lines outside of the restaurant was long. They do provide a large row of chairs for those waiting outside. Our food was delicious and served hot as if it was made and plated immediately, that's a great trait to look for when your food is being served and not waiting under hot lights. The break served at the table with olive oil was nice and warm and cheesy. Ordered a Caesar salad and it was served split as we shared it. the Lasagna was meaty, saucy and cheesy, excellent. We also tried the shrimp gonococci pasta. Everything was excellent, but we left with a great impression on the customer service which was 5+ star. Went to Mama D's for the first time and it was an amazing experience! There was a bit of a wait, but the staff went above and beyond, offering us delicious bread to snack on while we waited. We were treated so kindly, and you can tell this is a family owned business. I got the fettuccine with meat sauce, and my husband got the rigatoni with their incredible pink sauce. Everything we ate was delicious, and I loved that they gave us complimentary bread and warm chocolate chip cookies at the end of the meal. Needed some good old-fashioned Italian food so of course we pick mama D's. First of all the service is a plus our butts barely hit the bench seat and we already had bread and appetizers and drinks. The beers came within five minutes and they were on the ball taking our orders. Food came fast, hot and as we ordered it, all the food was excellent. I love the chicken marsala here. It taste so good. I wish it came with veggies, but other than that, it's an A+ all the way to top it off. I was hoping for some tiramisu, but all they had were their own versions of a Pazooki and that was super tasty. Everything else we had here was really good. This is definitely one of the best Italian places around the inside is small but quaint and they always have cool music playing. The menu has all sorts of normal Italian dishes I'm sure anything you pick is gonna be really good . I will definitely come back again. read more

Definitely come visit Mama D's. I wish we had a mom and pop restaurant like this back home in Sonoma county. This very personal family style restaurant would fit right in! My wife and I were in town for the Saturday Rush concert. Mama D's is located literally across from Hotel Hermosa where we're staying. We had the pleasure of being served by Gerson. Clearly a master of his craft. And the Host Alex was very friendly and attentive during our evening. I should have taken more pictures, I apologize. I wasn't expecting to find this gem. We pretty much closed the restaurant. It was full when we got there. The owners are clearly from the East Coast. NO where in CA will you find baked clams and antipasto salad. Even though on the menu, they call it a chopped salad. Thank you for making us feel at home our last night in town. We will be back.... read more

Great place for authentic Italian in the South Bay! Love their legendary freshly baked garlic knots, lobster ravioli, penne with their signature pink sauce and chicken parm are a must try. They have generous portions so everything is shareable. They even gave us warm chocolate chip cookies for dessert which was a nice touch. read more

I've been wanting to try Mama D's since I always past the Newport locations. There wasn't a wait on a Friday night, but the restaurant was full. It is a rather small space and the seating in tight, I don't think it's good for large groups. The server gave us a few recommendations and we ordered pink sauce pasta and lasagna. Both were great and I had leftover pasta. Their bread is so good, even on it's on by itself. The garlic herb oil was a game changer though. We used to enjoy Mama D's often when it was in Manhattan Beach. This location is smaller and still retains that family-friendly and cozy feel. We don't get to come around here that often anymore, but when we do we try to come get dinners here. Menu is very much the same as old location. They still have the buy two wine glasses and get the third for 1 cent. Their complimentary bread is a little different now but not in a bad way. They still serve it fresh out of the oven with that addictive garlic oil. You can get full just eating bread and garlic oil! It's that good! We ordered three entrees: Alfredo with fettuccine, seafood pasta with pink sauce and Anton's pasta Roma. All are fantastic. The seafood pasta is a tad too creamy for me though. What an adorable intimate little pizza and pasta spot that totally feels like a hidden gem. The owner is usually there chatting with everyone, and he really makes you feel welcome and special. We went for my daughter's birthday, and they have this super cute thing where kids can make their own pizzas. They bring out the dough and toppings, and the kids get to have a blast making their own creations. A lot of the dishes are named after Mama D's kids like we had these "Jamie's Mozzarella Balls" that everyone loved. I got the pink sauce pasta with linguini, and it was amazing. They also give you complimentary bread that's just delicious. And here's a fun bit, they gave the kids papers to draw the server, and my daughter actually won a free pizza for next time! So yeah, it's super family-friendly, they really love kids there, and we'll definitely be coming back. Just note they're only open from like 5 to 8:30 pm, so you gotta catch them in that window. We visited today for Father's Day with a large party, including a toddler, which was probably tough considering how incredibly busy they were, but Danny, our server, made sure to be attentive, friendly, and stayed on top of everything to give us everything we needed. Chris also stopped by our table several times to check in, chat with us, and share a few laughs. That personal touch made us feel genuinely welcomed and appreciated. The food was outstanding, as always. Every dish was delicious, but my personal favorite continues to be the chicken piccata. It's consistently flavorful and perfectly prepared every time! Between the exceptional service, warm hospitality, and amazing food, we had a great experience from start to finish. Even with a packed restaurant, they made us feel like a priority. We came here for a Birthday dinner and had an amazing time! This place feels like a homey Italian restaurant, with kids drawings hung up on the walls and comfy couches to sit in while you wait for your table. We had the BEST service here I have experienced. The staff were all so friendly. When waiting for our table they brought out bread and some pasta for us to try. And at the end of the night they brought out a birthday dessert (song and all) and some chocolate chip cookies. One of our party was gluten free and they were extremely accommodating. Overall the food was decent. The best dishes were the pasta dishes and many of us got the pink sauce which was delicious. The lemon chicken dishes were okay and our pasta didn't get much pink sauce on it compared to the other dishes. We had the best time at Mama D's! I can't wait to come back! read more

*** 4.5 stars *** We called at 5:30 pm to order takeout - Big Domo's Chicken Marsala and Dane's Pasta Dish (with chicken) - and were told it would be ready in 40 minutes. Upon arrival, my sister was told it would be just a few more minutes. 20 minutes later, the owner saw that she was waiting and asked what time her order was supposed to be ready. It turns out the girl who had take the phone order (perhaps his daughter) had forgotten to place the order and was trying to hide it from him - something that he was very upset about. He told my sister that that is not how they do business and gave her enough cash to cover most of the order (!). Our order was ready about 5 minutes later (so about 25 minutes late, not great, but honestly comp'ing our entire meal was really above and beyond and shows the commitment that Mama D's has to good service). The good news is that our food was fresh and piping hot when she brought it home a few minutes later. Both dishes were delicious, but the sauce on the Marsala was really next level. Like like the plate next level. As an extra treat, we found two chocolate chip cookies gifted to us in our take out bag. Really such a fan of this family owned business. This was one of my favorite spots back in the day at their old location, and I'm glad that they found a new spot and continue to operate with the same family values. Mushroom and onion pizza - cooked to perfection! Italian Chopped Salad - we had it with our pizza, and it went great with our meal. What can I say - this place is amazing! FOOD Came here and ordered the lasagna and chicken parm sandwich. Lasagna was cheesy and delish, chicken parm was good, but I think we'd prefer it served over pasta rather than as a sandwich. We'll have to come back to try other menu items. SERVICE service was great. We were greeted by the friendly hostess who gave us some garlic bread upon arrival and had us do a game at the counter to try and win free meals. We were seated immediately (Sunday 6:45pm) and our server was kind and attending. VIBES you enter the restaurant on a red carpet at the front door like your a celebrity. Thought that was cute... inside gives old school, family friendly vibes with music to match. We came in December so the old school Christmas jams were playing. I enjoyed the sign that said "we don't have wifi, put away your phones and pretend like it's 1995" lol. We'll be back and will post any noteworthy updates. Couldn't recommend Mama D's more. It began with calling to make a reservation and having Chris, the owner, pick up and confirm that they do let kids make their own pizzas. If you have kids, you know this is a pretty great thing for them to do. Once we arrived we were met with hospitality that most people don't even reserve for their own families these days. The staff was attentive, Chris was charming and entertaining, and the food was great. Between the three adults dining and two kids we had stuffed shells, chicken piccata, eggplant parm, cioppino, and two kids pizzas. Everything was great. The complementary bread and chocolate chip cookies, as well as magic tricks from Chris for the kids, were a welcomed touch. We will be coming back here sooner rather than later, and if you go, I'm sure you'll feel the same. And I need to shout out Gus (Gerson) our server for being great and putting up with us and the kids so effortlessly. read more
