We visited today for Father's Day with a large party, including a toddler, which was probably tough considering how incredibly busy they were, but Danny, our server, made sure to be attentive, friendly, and stayed on top of everything to give us everything we needed. Chris also stopped by our table several times to check in, chat with us, and share a few laughs. That personal touch made us feel genuinely welcomed and appreciated. The food was outstanding, as always. Every dish was delicious, but my personal favorite continues to be the chicken piccata. It's consistently flavorful and perfectly prepared every time! Between the exceptional service, warm hospitality, and amazing food, we had a great experience from start to finish. Even with a packed restaurant, they made us feel like a priority. Definitely come visit Mama D's. I wish we had a mom and pop restaurant like this back home in Sonoma county. This very personal family style restaurant would fit right in! My wife and I were in town for the Saturday Rush concert. Mama D's is located literally across from Hotel Hermosa where we're staying. We had the pleasure of being served by Gerson. Clearly a master of his craft. And the Host Alex was very friendly and attentive during our evening. I should have taken more pictures, I apologize. I wasn't expecting to find this gem. We pretty much closed the restaurant. It was full when we got there. The owners are clearly from the East Coast. NO where in CA will you find baked clams and antipasto salad. I've been wanting to try Mama D's since I always past the Newport locations. There wasn't a wait on a Friday night, but the restaurant was full. It is a rather small space and the seating in tight, I don't think it's good for large groups. The server gave us a few recommendations and we ordered pink sauce pasta and lasagna. Both were great and I had leftover pasta. Their bread is so good, even on it's on by itself. The garlic herb oil was a game changer though. We used to enjoy Mama D's often when it was in Manhattan Beach. This location is smaller and still retains that family-friendly and cozy feel. We don't get to come around here that often anymore, but when we do we try to come get dinners here. Menu is very much the same as old location. They still have the buy two wine glasses and get the third for 1 cent. Their complimentary bread is a little different now but not in a bad way. They still serve it fresh out of the oven with that addictive garlic oil. You can get full just eating bread and garlic oil! It's that good! We ordered three entrees: Alfredo with fettuccine, seafood pasta with pink sauce and Anton's pasta Roma. All are fantastic. The seafood pasta is a tad too creamy for me though. What an adorable intimate little pizza and pasta spot that totally feels like a hidden gem. The owner is usually there chatting with everyone, and he really makes you feel welcome and special. We went for my daughter's birthday, and they have this super cute thing where kids can make their own pizzas. They bring out the dough and toppings, and the kids get to have a blast making their own creations. A lot of the dishes are named after Mama D's kids like we had these "Jamie's Mozzarella Balls" that everyone loved. I got the pink sauce pasta with linguini, and it was amazing. They also give you complimentary bread that's just delicious. And here's a fun bit, they gave the kids papers to draw the server, and my daughter actually won a free pizza for next time! So yeah, it's super family-friendly, they really love kids there, and we'll definitely be coming back. Just note they're only open from like 5 to 8:30 pm, so you gotta catch them in that window. We came here for a Birthday dinner and had an amazing time! This place feels like a homey Italian restaurant, with kids drawings hung up on the walls and comfy couches to sit in while you wait for your table. We had the BEST service here I have experienced. The staff were all so friendly. When waiting for our table they brought out bread and some pasta for us to try. And at the end of the night they brought out a birthday dessert (song and all) and some chocolate chip cookies. One of our party was gluten free and they were extremely accommodating. Overall the food was decent. The best dishes were the pasta dishes and many of us got the pink sauce which was delicious. The lemon chicken dishes were okay and our pasta didn't get much pink sauce on it compared to the other dishes. We had the best time at Mama D's! I can't wait to come back! read more

*** 4.5 stars *** We called at 5:30 pm to order takeout - Big Domo's Chicken Marsala and Dane's Pasta Dish (with chicken) - and were told it would be ready in 40 minutes. Upon arrival, my sister was told it would be just a few more minutes. 20 minutes later, the owner saw that she was waiting and asked what time her order was supposed to be ready. It turns out the girl who had take the phone order (perhaps his daughter) had forgotten to place the order and was trying to hide it from him - something that he was very upset about. He told my sister that that is not how they do business and gave her enough cash to cover most of the order (!). Our order was ready about 5 minutes later (so about 25 minutes late, not great, but honestly comp'ing our entire meal was really above and beyond and shows the commitment that Mama D's has to good service). The good news is that our food was fresh and piping hot when she brought it home a few minutes later. Both dishes were delicious, but the sauce on the Marsala was really next level. Like like the plate next level. As an extra treat, we found two chocolate chip cookies gifted to us in our take out bag. Really such a fan of this family owned business. This was one of my favorite spots back in the day at their old location, and I'm glad that they found a new spot and continue to operate with the same family values. FOOD Came here and ordered the lasagna and chicken parm sandwich. Lasagna was cheesy and delish, chicken parm was good, but I think we'd prefer it served over pasta rather than as a sandwich. We'll have to come back to try other menu items. SERVICE service was great. We were greeted by the friendly hostess who gave us some garlic bread upon arrival and had us do a game at the counter to try and win free meals. We were seated immediately (Sunday 6:45pm) and our server was kind and attending. VIBES you enter the restaurant on a red carpet at the front door like your a celebrity. Thought that was cute... inside gives old school, family friendly vibes with music to match. We came in December so the old school Christmas jams were playing. I enjoyed the sign that said "we don't have wifi, put away your phones and pretend like it's 1995" lol. We'll be back and will post any noteworthy updates. Me and my mom had been to mama D's in a different area and always love it and have amazing service and food. This location 100% Lived up to the expectations. The owner Chris made us feel very welcome like family and did magic tricks with my little cousin. The environment is very homey and inviting. The wall decor encourages family time which is rarely valued anymore which I think is important. The food is made with love and you can tell. Oof...this place has gotten expensive. Lasagna...$23...ok that's fine. Penne with Pink Sauce...same price. Questionable to begin with. We wanted to add chicken and we were charged $9.99. (Which now double checking was an over-charge, it should have been $7.99). So a pasta with chicken dish turned into a $33 plate. What!! And then we got the Chopped Salad. We were out of there for $91 after tax and tip. We're locals and of course want to support all our small businesses, but unfortunately I'm not sure we'll be back. I ended up getting the lunch special (soup salad pasta) and it was all delicious! I'll absolutely be back to get a full serving of the spaghetti! I'm sad to give this a low review because we love the other two locations so much, but this location is not as good and has a slightly different menu than the Newport and Corona Del Mar locations. The waitress was nice and it is a small, but comfortable restaurant with a family atmosphere. The bread was absolutely delicious and I would come back just for that. The pepperoni pizza was okay, nothing special. My fiancée got the fettuccine Alfredo, but it had a slightly different taste and texture and was very thick and heavy compared to the other restaurants. read more

We got seated very quickly and our food also arrived quickly. While we waited outside, a server came out with a basket of garlic knots and gave us some to snack on. They have amazing complimentary bread for an appetizer and a complimentary warm chocolate chip cookie for dessert! I got the Alfredo pasta and it was very creamy. Can't say enough good things about Mama D's. This restaurant is like out of an 90s sitcom in its absolute perfection. The decor is old school and inviting but doesn't feel crowded. Anyone can throw together a can of sauce and boil some noodles as an easy quick dinner, but this stuff is next next next next level. The food is delicious and you'll be scraping up every drop of that delicious pink sauce onto their house bread or into your leftover container, because it can be quite filling. In my 10+ years of going to mama d's (Newport location before ) I only ever stuck to pasta and pink sauce.
