First time at Il Posto yesterday. It won. I don't drink Aperol Spritz. So take this with a grain of salt. Mine was delicious and refreshing, and now I'm a convert. Appetizers: beef carpaccio, calamari. Fresh ingredients, plated with care, well seasoned, sized like the starters they were. Pasta: Seafood Stuffed Ravioli in lobster sauce, Meat Lasagna with béchamel. The fresh pasta in both was exactly right. I ordered a bread basket just to chase the lobster sauce around the plate. The lasagna sent me back to Italy. No dessert this time. There will be a next time. And the three after that. I recommend. read more

The rejuvenated Redondo Beach Village now has multiple exceptional restaurants. Sadly, this is not one of them. Operating a restaurant is not an easy task, and as such we are understanding when something goes wrong. We are not as understanding when there are multiple issues. First off, the service was almost insulting. We had early reservations, so I don't think they were overly busy yet, but you wouldn't know that by our server. For all we know he could have been the Italian owner of the restaurant, and if that was the case, that made it even worse. Barely a greeting, no explanation of the specials, just a cheap plastic sleeve one would buy at Staples office supply thrown onto our table. He found our questions about the menu bothersome, and when I asked him about one item, he wrote it down as if I'd ordered it. Luckily we caught his error when I told him what I wanted for dinner and he said, "So you don't want the lasagna?" Um, no, I was just asking a question about the lasagna. We both ordered our meals along with the Heirloom Burrata appetizer. We asked if there was any bread with the appetizer, and he said no, so we asked for a bowl of bread to have with the burrata. It didn't show up, and we had to remind him. It finally arrived with our pasta. Oh well. My wife had ravioli stuffed with crab and lobster. She barely touched it and couldn't have been more disappointed. I told her to send it back, but she doesn't like confrontation. I had the cannelloni, and I have to steal a line I heard from another table: "This tastes like the stuffed shells I buy from Costco." It really did. I guess the pasta is homemade, but you sure couldn't tell from this dish. They came and picked up the dish without commenting on how little my wife had eaten. They asked if we wanted dessert, and, clearly expecting a no, plopped the bill down in front of me. We paid, yes we tipped, and immediately walked a few doors down to get my wife something to eat for dinner. We will never go back. read more

Of be doing a disservice by not writing a truthful review. The only reason they are getting 2 stars, is that the service was excellent. The hostess and the server went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. The food, on the other hand, was a disaster. It felt like they were not prepared to be open on valentine's Day, and they went to Costco to get already prepared meals to sell at a higher price point. The Caesar salad was clearly from a bag, the vegetables were 100% frozen and re cooked, and the meat was as if it had been cut into smaller portions just to make a little bit go a long way. The most disappointing part is that they sell themselves as a mom and pop Italian restaurant... when in reality they are not and owned by a company that runs other franchisees. So, the lot know better... it was just a bust and we will not be returning. read more

The good: some of their food is pretty good. I usually do not eat pasta because I'm doing a low carb diet but my wife loved their lasagna. The Caesar salad dressing was good. We been there a couple of times and i wasn't wowed. service was good considering there were only 2 waiters and a busboy. Very friendly I might add. The bad: the calamari was not crispy. My sea bass was portion was just ok but small. The vegetables that came with it were not very good. This place is hit or mess to me because some items are ok but some or not. If it was up to me I would go elsewhere like Gaitanos near the Kohls on Crenshaw or even Buca de Beppo. Update: The halibut I had last night was very good, but I originally wanted to try their New York steak. The waiter said they were sold out already and it was only 6:00pm. Not acceptable. read more

This recently opened restaurant is small and cozy, serving a variety of Italian food. We walked in and were seated near the bar. We were served by a very nice man, Josuan (maybe not the correct name spelling). He was attentive and polite. We ordered a bottle of Wine and a drink he brought them right over. We really enjoyed the delicious Cartoccio Di Pasta Al Frutti Di Mare a mixed seafood and Linguine wrapped in foil and baked was to die for, Meravigliosa. The Eggplant was equally as good. We did not know what to expect being a new restaurant now we know it was worth every penny.! Will be back, compliments to the bartender who helped us. read more

He poured water quickly which spilled on my friend, did not take my drink order, but took my friend's drink order so there was that. The food was really good. Lasagna was tasty and the cannelloni was also really good. So if you're looking for good Italian food and don't mind mediocre service try this place! read more

Heard about the newly opened IL Posta from our daughter, so we decided to check it out for a weekday lunch. They've got a solid lunch menu with special prices, and on Tuesdays you even get a free drink -- nice little perk. We tried a couple of pastas and they came out well. The pasta itself had a nice al dente bite, which I really appreciate. The Alfredo sauce was the star -- creamy, cheesy, and just right. The vodka sauce leaned a little on the sour side, but still tasty overall. We also shared a flatbread; flavor was fine but I wished the crust had more crispiness to it. Service was responsive and friendly, and parking was easy with plenty of street options nearby. Overall, a good new addition to the Riviera Village dining scene -- looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu. read more

The decor of the place is very well done and it's beautiful! The service is very good, excellent! There were only 2 tables. I just found out this is the same owners of Avenue A Italian restaurant in Palos Verdes. So if you love that restaurant, you will love this place. I will be honest, not my favorite on the PV hill so my expectation for this new spot wasn't high, but was hopeful... Food: * calamari - greasy and the batter wasn't very crunchy. 6/10 * beef carpaccio - it was mediocre at best. Nothing really stood out for me. 7/10 Entrées: * Ossobucco - wasn't melt in your mouth tender like it should have been for $58. Taste was mediocre. It needs to be braised a lot longer than what they claimed it has been braising for.... 5/10 * salmon with lemon with butter & caper sauce. Salmon was fresh since they have deliveries on Mondays & Thurs. But to me, it was a big dry n over cooked. $38 7/10 (my kid liked it) I find the food to be just ok for the price of what they charge, same as Avenue A Italian restaurant. I find it to be over priced mediocre Italian. Food wise 3-31/2 stars. Since it's been only open for 3 days the food might get better...? They only have 2 homemade pastas on their menu. Maybe they will bring more fresh homemade pastas. I really had high hopes for a good local Italian restaurant. After the final bill of close to $300 for 2 appetizers, 3 three entrées, two small bottles of sparkling water, and one glass of wine. Well.., felt a bit disappointed.... I don't mind spending this price or more when I have had an excellent meal. This place left me with a content belly but to my taste buds something a miss... A little of craving for something more... I did not think it transported back to Italy as their profile says it will... wish it did! I miss and dream about when I was in Italy! The only reason I'm giving this place a 2 is because of the great service. The staff were incredibly accommodating for my wife and newborn on a busy Valentine's Day night. We walked up and got sat outside at a great table. The host was super friendly and the waiter was top notch. Sadly the food was a different story. The expensive Caesar salad was clearly from Costco as well as the Frutti Di mare pasta, which was the frozen Costco cioppino with added boxed pasta. My wife's veal were three small paper thin slices with reheated frozen vegetables on the side. It was clear that everything was frozen and reheated from a package. Diners beware that this place sells itself as a small mom and pop Italian spot but it's really part of the same group as hook and plow, yellow vase, etc. Being part of the same group even made it more disappointing. I really hope that they focus on getting fresh ingredients, fresh pasta and fresh seafood. We didn't finish our dinners and we are on our way to pick up Fatto Manno down the street. read more

Only snapped a picture of the dessert but WOW!!! If you're looking for homemade pasta, made fresh daily, THIS is the place. Our waiter, is not only a waiter, but someone that makes the pasta daily. So you know they are invested in what they are serving. Our server was knowledgeable and was very helpful in choosing what to order and also treated us extremely well. The fresh pasta was chefs kiss . To start was the burrata pugliese which was a fresh and refreshing start to the meal. I got the penne allá liguare while other got the lasagna bolognese and messelune di crostacei... all plates were cleaned . The ambiance is both open and private between the indoor and outdoor seating. It is tucked away on the corner so can be easily missing, but you don't want to miss this place! We decided to go try a newer restaurant in town and we landed on Il Posto. We were there to celebrate a birthday on Saturday night. This was a great decision. We felt like family and were treated like royalty. We had a great meal - the beef carpaccio was a great start with the appetizer pizza and loved the Osso Buco - absolutely delicious. The vibe was great and the food and service top notch. The kicker was that my wife realized that she lost an earring that evening and we called the restaurant the next day and the busboy had found it while cleaning up. We will be back! read more

It's really more of a 2.5. I really wanted to love this place because the atmosphere is beautiful and the service was warm and attentive. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. The pasta was overcooked and lacked the al dente texture you'd expect, the branzino didn't taste particularly fresh, and the potatoes were undercooked. I hope this was just an off night because the ambiance and staff were lovely. With some improvement in the kitchen, this could be a great spot. read more

It was my first time at it posto and my daughter and I fully enjoyed it! We had the fresh pasta dish "Oricchieile Bariolioteo" and loved it! Our waitress was very accommodating and let us try a couple samples of wine before we ultimately decided on a cocktail instead. Her Cadillac margaritas were killer!! We had a reservation that was made in first week of January for 1/15. Confirmed twice and on 1/15 got a call telling us we can't come to dinner and our reservation was canceled. The reason: a private event! That's not an acceptable excuse for the cancellation. Private event usually was arranged in advance and not the day of customer's reservation to close the restaurant .Someone either forgot to notify the customer or just doesn't care enough. They didn't apologized and just told us we couldn't come. Will not give them any of our business. read more

All we ordered was a beer and two Caesar Salads with salmon so it's not lot we delved deeply in to the Italian food here. But it's amazing what you can learn about a place before you even touch the food. Mostly pro's: Our server was friendly and prompt... checked in just the right amount of times. We were the only ones in there so let's not get too excited. The salad was simple but what ingredients that were there were assembled with care. The piece of salmon that they added was flawless. The CHAIRS so incredibly comfortable. Nice padded leather (faux?) that I could have sat in all day. It's amazing how many restaurants have cheap/hard chairs. Sure, they charged for the bread plate but it was really good bread with a slight toast. The beer (Peroni) was super cold. The "feel" of the place is comfortable/classy. Not TOO classy. The food took awhile to come out but it was SO comfortable sitting there that it did not feel like we were waiting long... just sipping a beer and dipping bread in olive oil, watching the pedestrian traffic out front... it was very nice. Con's: I'm eating healthier these days and lean toward salads. I was not impressed with the salad/healthy options. I mean... it's an Italian place so I get that it's going to have a lot of cured meats and heavy sauces with lots of pasta. But if they added an "Italian Burger" with, I don't know, fresh basil or pesto or marinara sauce and provolone... and a few more salad options... I'd be a regular. A Caesar Salad in pretty basic with very few ingredients... the salad was pretty light on croutons and Parmesan cheese. (But still felt like it was made with care) Overall... you should try this place! read more

Such a great experience tonight! We started with calamari and several salads which were perfect. A great bottle of wine was a perfect compliment. Our waiter Gary was phenomenal and suggested just the right dishes. The BONUS was the pasta chef who showed us photos of his hand rolling the pasta and his hands on expertise was such a pleasure! Every pasta dish we had was excellent. We were even treated to a fabulous dessert on the house. My husband being Italian is very particular but he agreed that we found a gem in our own neighborhood! I don't normally leave reviews, but our recent visit left such a strong impression--unfortunately, not for the right reasons. The food was excellent, and that's the only reason this isn't a one-star review. However, the service was truly disappointing and at times even uncomfortable. From the moment we sat down, the manager or owner (who was also acting as our server and is the pasta maker) seemed disinterested and dismissive. He walked away mid-order, leaving members of our group unable to finish requesting drinks. Simple asks, like water refills, felt like an inconvenience to him. When it came time for dessert and after-dinner drinks, things got worse. He abruptly walked away after only one person in our group ordered dessert and then ignored multiple attempts from the rest of us to place our drink orders. The bartender was nearby delivering drinks to another table and when we politely asked if she could help us, she said we'd have to go through him because she was too busy. That comment did not make him happy and he angrily approached her at the bar. What followed was an argument between the two of them -- clearly audible and visible from our table. They moved it to the back of the (small) restaurant, but we could still see them arguing with arms flailing. It was incredibly uncomfortable for everyone at our table. Eventually, the bartender returned to take our drink order, but by then the moment was soured. We declined and told her we'd be leaving. She apologized to me personally, but then confided that she was overwhelmed, under-supported, and expected to bartend and wait tables. Clearly not happy with her work situation but nonetheless should not have involved us in her frustration - warranted or not. Before leaving, one of our friends (a regular at the restaurant) tried to speak with the manager/owner about the experience and the disruptive altercation. Unfortunately, he was completely dismissive and showed no concern or accountability. It's a shame -- the kitchen clearly puts out quality food, but the service and management made what should have been a great evening something we couldn't wait to get out of. I truly hope they make some serious changes, because right now, I can't recommend this place. read more

I'll Posto is a great addition to the Riviera dining scene with a nicely fitted out interior. The menu is classic Italian with antipastas, soups, salads, pastas, fish and meats-something for everyone! The veal scallopini was delicious with a mushroom sauce and fresh roasted vegetables; the branzino was tender and sautéed to perfection with lemon and capers, crispy fingerling potatoes and vegetables! Both dishes were very nicely presented by our French waiter and came out promptly which we appreciated while enjoying a lovely glass of Chianti. We couldn't resist the tiramisu, and it was as rich and creamy as I've ever had! We really enjoyed our meal, other than the scene by the disgruntled woman at the table beside us who apparently was accidentally overcharged, and which was corrected by our long-suffering waiter. He handled it very well, after she left nearly diners expressed empathy to him for what he had just endured. I believe she wrote a damning review, but I wouldn't let that influence you as I'll Posto will be here serving delicious Italian food for a long time to come. read more

I called earlier this week to make a reservation. I remember the guy very clearly on the phone. He spoke extremely fast and had a very thick accent so I knew when I called back today to request an outdoor table I recognized his voice. He said he had no reservation under my name. I was in a noisy place so I thought I misunderstood him so I asked him to hold on while I stepped outside. I asked him to repeat what he said and he says "I have no reservation for you. Did you understand that part???" Very sarcastically. I was a bit flabbergasted so I said well. Do you have anything at 6:30 or 7: 30?(My original reservation was 7:00 p.m. and I made the mistake of booking over the phone) He said no, we're fully booked. So not a great start at a place that I was hoping to treat myself too. After helping others all week. I honestly don't normally leave bad reviews because I don't like to mess with people's livelihoods but this guy was so rude I couldn't believe it. Last night we met friends at Il Posto for dinner and had one of the best dining experiences we've had in the village. The food was fabulous starting with the calamari. I have never had it like that! Light, tender and served with an unusual mustardy sauce (they also brought Marinara for my husband but I loved the original sauce). Both couples split a Ceasar salad. There was plenty for two. Again, it was unlike any I have ever tasted. Just the perfect amount of dressing and cheese. I went on to have the lamb shank that literally fell off the bone. It came with potatoes and veggies. The two men had the orecchiette with mushrooms and my friend spaghetti with meat sauce. Everything was perfection. Service was outstanding and lively. The owner, our waiter and even the chef came over to say hello. We saw a short video of the owner making the pasta - yes all of it is handmade and perfectly cook. The wall facing the street is open, but there is a huge tree with lights in front so you didn't get a street vibe. I could have been in Italy or West Hollywood. People were dressed nicely, happy, loving the food - and did I mention the wine? Awesome. Loved the vibe. Loved the people. Loved the food. read more

This place is a hot mess. I really wanted to try it since it's fairly new, but it was a disaster from the start. We had a waiter who didn't listen. He made several mistakes, one of which was to charge us for a $50 bottle of wine that we didn't order. He didn't even let us look over the bill before he charged our cards, assured us that the bill was correct, and then didn't apologize once for his mistake. It took a long time to get this corrected. Actually, we're not even sure it's correct so we'll let our credit card companies know. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered a lobster and shrimp ravioli that was supposed to be "homemade" but was clearly store-bought and overly salty. The sauce on it looked like Campbell's canned gravy. My friend's meal resembled a frutti di-mare but she was told it was a baked dish with no sauce. It definitely had a tomato sauce. They made a spectacle of bringing this dish in foil and then lighting some herbs on fire at the table. This did nothing for the dish other than being a gimmick. It was also bland. We ordered crème brulee for dessert but it resembled soup - never had this happen before. Just terrible. After the ridiculous billing mistake, no one apologized or offered to comp us anything. They blamed their computer system for the mistake rather than taking accountability. I asked for the manager and they brought out another waiter who pretended to be the manager and refused to tell me the name of the owner. Our waiter told us to "come back - still no apology. It took 30 minutes for her to take our wine order and another 15 to bring it. We had sat for another 30 minutes before I finally asked a bus boy for some bread because by then I was getting drunk having missed lunch that day. when the bread finally arrived (a full hour and 15 minutes since we arrived) we gave the bartender/waitress our dinner order. food arrived in reasonable time but again we were disappointed. 1.) i ordered the seafood pasta dish. it wasn't bad but i found it lacking flavor. no garlic or tomato flavors. 2.) girlfriend ordered the ravioli which arrived lukewarm. she said she couldn't really taste much. 3.) ordered the pistachio tort to share. it was light and fluffy but lacked flavor. after finishing the dessert we sat for another 20 minutes or so before we received the check. side note: they only serve italian wines so if you're not familiar with them be prepared to either roll the dice or have a cocktail. we rolled the dice and ended up with a hard to drink (very tart) red. we won't be going back... read more
