She made me feel welcome, engaged me right away, and was a bonafied professional who Knows Service. I took her recommendation and ordered the Putanesca with Blackened chicken, and had the pair salad. Holy Potato Crusted Halibut, Batman! This meal was savory in all the right ways and absolutely hit the spot for my Friday night fish dinner. I honestly loved this dish so much that I carried the uneaten portion home with me with more passion than Gollum holds his Precious Ring. I started with an order of 4 of the house special Homemade Rolls. These were served with a fluffy whipped butter and tapenade to schemer. I was only able to finish one as these beautiful dough balls are bigger than my fist and I loved every bite. The halibut was very lovely, as many places can overcook what should be a firm, flakey, and sweet meal. Mangiamo's managed to knock this dish out of the park. The accompanying mashed potato's were so soft that I could have sworn I was living a carb induced dream, wrapped in fluffiness. The potato's were accented with Spanish olives and artichokes, adding the perfect contrast. Unfortunately, while my food was a total knock-out, there were some aspects lacking during the meal. First, I am an avid lemonade drinker, and proud of it. The lemonade I ordered from Mangiamo was NOT lemonade in any sense of the word it seemed. Instead, it honestly tasted like I was given a watered down glass of Crystal-Lite and a pat on the back. Sadly, I was unable to enjoy the beverage. Service started off okay when I arrived for our reservation. There were still a few open tables available and were were given a nice corner seat. The ambiance of the room was very much that of a small, local spot trying to seem bigger than it could be. Mirrors completely covered the walls, adding an uncomfortable echo to the entire establishment. Being hard-of-hearing, this was not on the plus side. I had to motion to my husband for him to please order for me due to being unable to comprehend the waitress due to the noise level. She, in fact, wasn't able to hear me either, so I know it wasn't just my own ears that were being strained. The tables were also uncomfortably close to one another in our corner. We were close enough to the table next to us that, when the waitress faced those at the next table to take their order, her bottom actually ended up touching our own table. We wanted something that was more of a mocktail so they made us something with honey and ginger. Beer was really good. The food came out hot and the noodles pasta were cook perfectly. This is a small Italian restaurant in Manhattan Beach with a cozy, relaxed vibe. We went there around 5 PM for happy hour, and the prices were really good. We ordered a few appetizers to share, and honestly every dish was delicious. Maybe because we were enjoying wine and good company, everything tasted even better. For the entrees, the portions were bigger than typical Italian restaurants. Or maybe we were already a bit full from the appetizers -- not sure. But we still finished everything, so that says a lot about the quality and taste. The regular prices are on the higher side, as expected for Italian food, but the happy hour makes it very worth it. They have a nice wine list with many options to choose from. The menu is not too big, which I actually like -- it makes it easy to decide. Service is standard and professional. Came here for a special occasion with my family, and we loved it! We made a reservation for a Saturday evening, and it wasn't crowded. Service was courteous and attentive. For appetizers, we got the Fried Calamari. It was tender, crispy, and served with a trio of dipping sauces (marinara, tartar, and horseradish cocktail). I appreciated they variety of sauces, since not everyone likes a cocktail sauce. We also got two of their special appetizers. One was ricotta stuffed figs wrapped in prosciutto, and the other was ricotta stuffed squash blossoms with a side of marinara. Both were very good! For my entree, I got the Crab Crusted Sea Bass. They gave a decent sized piece of sea bass topped with grilled snow crab. The linguine had Orvieto white wine, lemon shrimp, and julienned zucchini and squash. I really enjoyed this dish! I also tried some of the King Salmon with asparagus risotto. They use a lot of peppercorn in this dish, but it wasn't too overpowering. The salmon was moist and tender! Giovanni (I feel terrible- I think that was his name) was our server and he was absolutely outstanding and knew the menu inside and out as I have a couple food allergies (gluten is the main one). Normita and me were debating about where to go, to any of the new places in the South Bay and we decided to go back to our beloved Mangiamo. Why? I do not recommend the fettuccini Alfredo. It's hard to mess up cream and cheese, but putting a TON of white wine in it does it for me. I don't think any dish should ever include alcohol without stating it on the menu, which this did not. Even for those with a taste for wine found this to be excessive. Covering the pasta in fresh black pepper did nothing to mask the taste. The fried cauliflower was tasty and the three dipping sauces it came with really elevated the dish. I enjoyed putting the pesto from the cauliflower on the house made bread rolls. Though these are not complimentary, the rolls are a good size and made fresh. Not a must, however, unless you really want bread. The fried zucchini blossom appetizer special was tasty but the heavy breading overpowered the flavor and texture of the squash blossom. I wish the small zucchini was not shriveled, and this was essentially a soft mozzarella stick. My companions enjoyed their carbonara and salmon pesto pappardelle. We did ask for a side of parmesan that never came. Overall, I found this experience to be disappointing. Some things were good but nothing was outstanding. The fettuccini Alfredo might be the worst dish I had this year. read more

I think the only homemade pasta is the bolognese with Papadelle. Ambiance is very cozy and never knew they had more seatings in the waaay back of restaurant. Almost felt like a restaurant you would find somewhere in Italian. Much bigger space than I thought when you first walk in. They do have pretty good gluten free pasta which tasted like regular pasta. Appetizer: * Dinner rolls (these are just average tasting rolls, nothing special) * grilled tiger prawns - tasty * meatballs - good but too much cheese on it... Dinner: * crab crusted sea bass- delicious, light in taste and well balanced with good chunk of crab meat with gluten free pasta * Osso Buco- very rich in flavor (husband loved it) * classic bolognese - the only fresh pasta dish. We ordered the "potato Halibut", King Salmon & the fried cauliflower. The food was so disappointing. The mashed potatoes were soggy and kind of wet. The halibut was overly breaded and basically had no flavor. The salmon was almost like a boiled salmon with absolutely no flavor. The cauliflower was cooked nicely and was a beautiful golden color, but the bread crumb crust was made with stale breadcrumbs. I eat regularly at all different restaurants in the South Bay. My husband and I ate here for the first time on Valentine's Day. There was a fixed menu with a few selections for each course offered. I had the chopped salad which had these unique fried Brie croutons and linguine with tiger prawns and a tomato sauce. It was supposed to be spicy but wasn't at all so that was disappointing but the ingredients seemed fresh and clean. My husband had a Greek inspired salad and the chilean sea bass with a soy or teriyaki type glaze. It was just ok and for the price it was also disappointing. However the service was excellent and the bartender made me a good mocktail with lemon and ginger. I would give the food a 3 and the service a 5. read more

The calamari was solid. I really enjoyed the three sauces they give you, that definitely took it up a notch. The special appetizer was stuffed zucchini with cheese and sour cream I believe. It paired so well with the tomato bisque type sauce/soup. Really good I would order again! The blackened chicken pasta was great! Lots of flavor and good amount of chicken well seasoned. The sauce is a lot lighter in consistency but flavor was there! Service was good. Inside is small so recommend a reservation. Walking in from the Manhattan Beach Pier the place is classy with the grace of the old school Italian restaurant. The acoustics were a little loud but the vibes were blissful. Non the less the server, Fidel, was courteous and on the ball. I ordered a Malbec and it was cheers! My girl ordered the Chicken Marsala. The chicken was tender and Marsala reduction was light and subtle with just enough sweetness. Mushrooms were cooked just right. The dish comes with a side of fettuccine Alfredo, in the dish. I know some might like this but for me they clash. Perhaps remember to tell your server fettuccine with simple olive oil or butter. I chose the Osso Buco. Cooked perfect in a Sherry wine sauce with root vegetables over creamy polenta. A generous portion, wonderful taste, and Barely stopped short of being salty. Excellent. My daughter decided on the Crab Crusted Sea Bass. A nice portion of fish with crab stuffing on top sitting on a julienne zucchini linguine in a tasty Orvieto white wine with shrimp. A very tasty dish. (Sadly the fish and crust were slightly over cooked and a bit dry). Not bad enough to waste and send back she utilized the wine sauce and still enjoyed. I asked for something special to pair with my second glass of Malbec and they arrived with a chocolate bread pudding with strawberries grapes and cream. Drenched in hot fudge. deliziosa! Phenomenal osso bucco. Possibly the best I've ever had. It is different than what I've had previously. The sauce is lighter while still packing a lot of flavor. The meat was fork tender and not at all gamey as I've experienced sometimes. Even the carrots component of the dish was flavorful. It's a little pricey at $50, but it's a huge plate of food which I couldn't finish (a rarity for me). Big enough to split with another person. I got one of the lower priced cabernet wines which wasn't cheap but it was a really generous pour. Enjoyed my meal so much, I came back 2 more times during my visit to the area. All my other meals were great too, but if I ever return I'll definitely get the osso bucco! read more

Overall, I was disappointed in the food at Mangiamo, especially for the price point. From the start, the bread rolls were decent but could have been better. The calamari appetizer was my favorite item; the three sauces that came with it were delicious. However, the meal went downhill from there - the caesar salad was mediocre at best and had a strange cheese disk in it (very difficult to eat). Our two main dishes, the pasta bolognese and crab-crusted sea bass, were extremely disappointing. The pasta bolognese was overly salty and tasted worse than our homemade bolognese. The crab-crusted sea bass lacked flavor all-around and was not worth the $47. Service was good - the staff was very friendly. There is a nice ocean view from the window bar seats, so maybe this place would be a better choice for drinks. read more

OMG!!! This place is small, but simply fabulous! From its ambiance,and service to its remarkable food. I had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken the sauce was very creamy and delicious. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting the manager Frank, (shown In picture). Frank was so awesome, we drove from Covina to manhattan beach, and caught some traffic and missed our reservation time of 6:00. Frank was so awesome, without blinking an eye. He extended our time a half hour to a 6:30pm reservation for us. Thank you Frank!! This place is absolutely perfect for large and small parties. Our reservation was for 17 and not an easy fit for a reservation. We were so grateful for the staff and Frank. We were celebrating our daughter's 16 birthday, So we took a cake, expecting to cut the cake ourselves. This staff was so amazing they brought us the cake with candles lite. First things first, finding parking can be quite challenging, especially in a bustling beach town, so plan to arrive early to secure a spot. If you opt for the parking lot, be prepared for a steep hill both uphill and downhill, which can be tricky in certain footwear. We were promptly greeted and seated upon arrival. Our waitress, however, seemed a bit slow when it came to serving our food and addressing our requests. To start, we enjoyed fresh bread with olive tapenade and butter. For appetizers, we also ordered the tomato/burrata, which was delightful and carpaccio, which was just okay, nothing remarkable. As a started I ordered the beet salad was just ok, even a bit bland. I decided to go for the veal piccata, but it turned out to be rather plain. Someone had ordered the cacio e pepe with a request to substitute spaghetti with penne; however, it was initially brought out with spaghetti, requiring us to send it back. We also ordered the fettuccini, which was not so great...and soon enough we realized that any dish with a cream, from dinner to dessert, had an unusual and off-putting taste. Wow. Unfortunately, for me, I had just eaten a The Hat Pastrami meat bomb so my appetite suffered on this trip so I went with only a Steamed Clam appetizer. It was great. It is a great spot in Manhattan beach with amazing food and excellent service! We have been coming here for years! They now have an outside area with the most amazing sunset views, a main area and the back of the restaurant with 4-5 table that is more quiet and allows more for a conversation. Always ask for their specials as those are amazing. From the appetizers we love Tuna Tartar stack. It has been our favorite for a long time and now our 4 year old son loves it too. You can't go wrong with the main dish- Veal Parmigiana, Osso Bucco or any pasta dish would be amazing. They have good selection of wines as well. The manager, Frank, is always nice and welcoming. Also not "crab crusted", instead has a nasty looking crab cake placed on top of the unseasoned white fish. Better send that chef back to school. Good Grief; this restaurant is SPECTACULAR! Approx. 2 miles from our hotel in Hermosa~its actually In Manhattan Beach. We asked our Uber Black driver where he/his clients recommend for 5 star Italian food. Born and raised in Manhattan, he suggested this spot and it did not disappoint. FIDEL was awesome. Service was A+ from the second we sat down. So good, that after a minute we didnt even pay attention to the clear acrylic dividers they put up between tables for social distancing. For the past two decades if an establishment had Chicken Parmigiana on the menu I dedicated myself to trying their version. After trying hundreds of dishes, one dish just outside of Boston, MA has held the top spot for about 12 years, until last night. Mangiamo's Chicken Parmigiana was fantastic, it had a moist chicken breast with breading that was very flavorful but not too heavy or overly seasoned. The sauce was well portioned, delicious with low acidity. The cheese melted perfectly over the chicken guaranteeing each bite encompassed all aspects of the delicacy. While walking near our table the servers always glanced over to see if we needed anything on the table and made eye contact in the event we wanted to flag them down, allowing us to enjoy our experience without interrupting conversations or disrupting the mood. The ambiance was elegant yet relaxed. However, as the night went on, the tables filled and the noise level did increase, as one might expect where the ceilings are low and atmosphere is quaint and cozy.
