This week's Friday beef brings me to Lemont for another recommendation from the Italian beef FB group. Mama D's serves up a great five star beef. Dipped with hot on the side, make it a deal for just $4.95, and add a cup of cheese for under $16 with tax. They call this a 6 inch, which is very generous. Perfect bite and flavor with perfectly shaved beef. Kept sneaking little bites of that flavorful beef. I'll always be a fan of piping hot crinkle cut fries and their cheese was very generous and tasty. Even had enough left to dunk the last couple bites of the beef in it. Very friendly staff member, who actually brought my meal out to me. She keeps the dining room spotless too. Not that much further out of my way home, means I will definitely explore more of their menu. read more

Don't order the gyros sandwich! Mine was burnt, no feta, peppers and most importantly no tzatziki sauce. The impersonal cashier did give me some even though she seemed to doubt me that I didn't receive any. It took a long time to receive our order even though they did not appear busy. The only salvation was the "shredded" Italian beef was ok. I say ok because the lack of flavor was saved by the giardinaire. Very disappointed. read more

Hands down the best beef in the area! The service is good and there's a decent amount of seating. They also have a gaming area if you're into that. We've tried pretty much everything on the menu and haven't been disappointed. read more

As the famous saying goes, WTF happened to this place. When in the area I would stop here for a beef or a couple of hot dogs. So as I was driving down Archer, I stopped in for lunch. Walked up to the counter and noticed that the guy (whom I assumed was the owner) was not present. But there were two females working the counter and they could not be bothered with taking my order. After waiting several minutes, she decided to take my order. After several minutes my meal was ready, After me sitting down, several other customers came in and were treated to the same waiting game. Always a difficult time attempting to find a restaurant that makes a pepper and egg sandwich, let alone a good one. Enter, Mama D's. In my hunt I realized nearby Mama D's is the place to go! Whereas the rest of my family chowed down on sushi. I went with my fave Friday night dish that I know never disappoints! The egg was cooked perfectly, solid and not slimy. The included peppers had just the right bite without being either too raw nor too mushy. The added mozzarella was just the right amount. THE perfect pepper and egg! The cheese fries were nothing to write home about, but the cheese was delicious! Any fry is a new fry when cheese is involved! Whereas I did not pick it up I was told the establishment had a great old school Italian food kind of vibe. Next time I will pick it up myself! Quite disappointed! I ordered the ribeye steak sandwich on garlic toast w/onion rings. For starters I'm so glad I asked to have mayo added cause babbbeeeee when I say dry I mean DRY! I have NEVER had a ribeye steak that was not only dry and tough but; membrane that made it impossible to eat! Not to mentioned it had more lettuce than any thing. Solid spot for a great Italian Beef in the burbs or even the whole chicagoland area for that matter. Servings are massive, seriously the 9" will have you feeling full for 2 days, and prices are decent. Fries are also cooked to perfection. Just be prepared to wait if you are ordering at the counter, especially during peak times. Food is cooked fresh, which is a good thing, but does require a little waiting. But let me tell you.... well worth it! read more

This place has the BEST Italian beef sandwich I've ever had. I've also had the meatball sandwich and the breaded steak sandwiches, which are also really good. Great price, great food. Hidden gem. The location: Has tv with basketball going, free WiFi (I was able to get some work done), and cool rocky balboa collection. The food: Had a double burger and fries. The burger is huge and for a great price. Fries are super crispy and perfectly salted. The staff: Walk in and am greeted by a very nice staff member. Went there with my husband. I ordered a Gyro and he a hotdog and chili cheese fries. There was just enough cucumber sauce and the onions was cut and not long and stringy like other restaurants do. Excellent!!! According to my husband, the chili cheese dog could used some chopped onions. All in all, I personally would recommend this place . The inside give a laid back vibe , with the pop culture wall art . The employees are helpful, kind and professional. I'm always excited to learn of an Italian beef place I haven't tried yet. Sometimes you strike gold in out-of-the-way places. That was my hope with Mama D's. The space inside the restaurant/take out place is open and airy (it's a corner spot in a strip). The young woman working the counter was quite pleasant on the Friday evening of my party's visit. We all got Italian beefs, and waited for our orders to see how they would stack up. Not particularly well was the verdict. The beef didn't have a lot of flavor to my tastebuds - it didn't taste of garlic or much of anything else. It was perfectly serviceable, but nothing more. The giardiniera was good. The frozen crinkle fries were what you'd expect. If I lived in Lemont, I'd probably come here from time to time. It's decent. I don't think I'd recommend making any sort of special drive for the beef, though. read more

Mama D's has probably the best beef in the area. The sandwich was a little thin but was still jam packed with deliciousness. I asked for it dipped and it was really wet. Just how I like it. The bread held up perfectly and the beef was steaming hot. With just the right amount of hot peppers. Makes for a very well put beef sandwich. It is a little far from where I'm usually at, so I won't go out of my way to get one, but when I'm in the area I'll always stop in to get me a beef. read more

If you like your Italian Beef Dipped AND love garlic, this might be the best dipped Italian Beef sandwich in northeastern Illinois. The only reason this is better (for me) than Mr. Beef in Homer Glen is the GARLIC. Otherwise, Mr. Beef is TOPS. If Garlic is a food group, this is the ONE Italian Beef sandwich for you. Want to support local small businesses and understand these times are tough . But this is third and last visit . First two visits were on Sundays . Both times , multiple menu items were not available ( including Italian bread used for many sandwich items) Apparently they restock inventory on Monday. Third time, I picked up my order and halfway home I noticed multiple items missing from the order . Not worth the hassle . Other similar businesses in the area have it more together . I love their beef! As a North sider, we seldom make our way this far South. My kid plays volleyball, so we find ourselves @ Alliance from time to time and this is our go to spot. Kid also likes the fries here, which seem like ordinary bagged frozen, but they seem to fry them just right to get that perfect crisp snap. Brought the Mrs last trip and she asked if they could do a Char Dog. While they acknowledged it, they really didn't do a TRUE char dog. Before Mama D'S I was a big fan of Portillo's but this is hands down the best and reasonably priced. They have a large menu and everything we have had so far is great. Food is good but inconsistent. Ordered the lemon chicken for catering and it was ice cold which indicated it can been cooked hours before the scheduled pickup time and just let to sit out. I ate at Mama D's today with my husband and 4 year old granddaughter. I will not be back. I live in Lemont, It's convenient, but $47 later today and the food to me was very mediocre. My Greek salad was mostly lettuce. Couple olives, couple, cucumbers, couple of tomatoes and a some feta, but basically very boring. Didn't even sprinkle it with oregano for taster or anything. They're marinara sauce is way too thin/watery. We ordered rigatoni and spaghetti, again just mediocre. I ordered a beef sandwich and fries. I asked for the beef sandwich to be a to go sandwich. They forgot the fries so when I got the sandwich I had to ask for the fries. My granddaughter would have loved to have eaten the fries with her pasta but instead, I had to take them home and we ended up throwing them away. Everybody by that point was done and the beef was for my 90-year-old mother, so I wasn't going to give her a large order of fries to go with it! I don't enjoy eating out for mediocre food. I can save my money and make my own at home. So disappointed. read more

We usually order from them on UberEats! Their food is always super delicious, delivery is always super fast, and we have never run into an order that was wrong or tasted badly. We usually get their Chicago dogs + fries and it's one of the few places where their delivery doesn't have soggy fries from sitting long.
