I hate when people at the restaurant say everything is good. Not these young ladies. They made some sound suggestions which we followed. French onion soup and the steak frites were both excellent and priced well IMO. They have a really good whiskey/bourbon selection with a few hard to find bottles. I settled on a Blantons neat. They had Pappy, but I'm not wasting money on that anymore. Food came out quickly and we ate and watched a baseball game. The locals at the bar told us about their membership program where I guess for a small mo they fee you get a bottle of wine and a charcuterie plate once a month. Seemed like a pretty good deal. I don't live anywhere near there, but if I did I'd certainly join. In any case, if you live anywhere close, this is definitely a worthwhile restaurant to visit. She told me all meat plates come in 1/2 pound but I could order sliders that came in 1/4. That's why I went with the brisket slider and pulled pork slider. The pulled pork slider went extremely well with the Carolina Vinegar sauce like it should. The honey BBQ and hot honey BBQ were better matches with the brisket. I loved all 3 sauces but was most impressed with the Carolina Vinegar. The meat and sauces were impressive but the sides over all were underwhelming for me. Something to note was that this might be the only BBQ joint I have ever been to with so many sides and baked beans was not one of them. The slaw was all right but adding the Carolina vinegar took it to another level. The potato salad was homemade and actually cost an extra $1 for some reason. But I didn't like it because I don't like celery. That one is on me because other than the celery, it was all right. But the side I was most disappointed with was the mac and cheese. The lady behind the counter told me they do not make it in house but buy it frozen and smoke it. They need to find another formula for it because this was not worth $5 for a side of Mac and cheese. The noodles were too doughy and could tell it was indeed frozen at one point and the cheese was more like nacho cheese than real cheese. I couldn't even finish it with how disappointed and disgusted I was with it. Despite the sides, Matt's gets the most important part of BBQ right and that's the meat.
