My sis ordered a chopped beef sandwich with green beans and potato salad. The chicken spaghetti arrived first. It was spoiled. literally had to spit it out. My sis tried the green beans and they weren't seasoned one bit. I had to leave. We went straight to counter and I explained there was something wrong with the Chicken Spaghetti and explained it tasted spoiled. I paid for the chopped beef $19.99 and a drink but we left it all on the table. The son followed us out to the parking lot and offered a refund. I explained we were leaving. It was literally the worst soul food/home cooked food experience of my life and as you can see by my many reviews the 1 star here is generous. On March 1, 2024. Around 2pm. I ate at Mama Es BBQ. the conversation was casuaĺ but the food was NOT HOMECOOKED. The store advertised that all the food is HOME-COOKED, however I witnessed MAMA E opening BAKED BEANS out of a can. She also used GREENS out of a can. When I ordered the food it was delivered almost IMMEDIATELY. There was no wait and the food was NOT VERY HOT it was only warm. When I also ordered BBQ brisket sandwich. The meat was BURNT. I did not ask for BBQ SAUCE and they INSISTED on putting it on my sandwich. The experience was HORRIBLE. I did not get a receipt. This was my second time trying Texas barbeque, with the first being quite a lackluster experience. I got the beef brisket, chopped sandwiches, potato salad, and beans. The brisket was drenched in barbeque sauce, which was not to my liking. Rather than being able to taste the smokiness of the beef, every crevice was covered in sauce. They weren't seasoned and were not fall off the bone tender as they should have been. 2. I think Bush Grillin Beans from the can taste 1000 times better than the baked beans I was served. The 3 women were really nice and the establishment was very clean. I didn't care for the ribs and knew that I wouldn't when I unpacked my food. To me they appeared to be baked with a hint of liquid smoke added. There was no smoke ring which then supported my thinking but they were tender and the sauce was good. I didn't finish my food and will not rule them out. Im always a fan or supporting small businesses. I will give it another shot and try other menu options. There are no prices posted so you don't know how much your total will be until they ring you up. OH MY!! Woke up with a hankerin' for some BBQ this Sunday morning, went to yelp to get the hours for Cousins BBQ, and found this little jem! Mama E, your BBQ q was absolutely de-lish-ous! Nice warm peach cobbler to top it off and took a pound of potato salad and sliced back home. First let me say meeting Mama E was a delight. What a wonderful woman, told us some of the history of the location, invited us to her church, offered us a piece of the massive philodendron (spelling?) that she has growing there. A sweet woman who has got BBQ DOWN YALL! Now to the food. Good Lord it was good. Brisket was smoked perfectly with hints of mesquite and pecan. Loved the sauce, just light enough to let the flavor of the meat take center stage. The ribs were cooked just right, very tender and sticking to the bones just enough to let you enjoy digging in tearing off. The potato salad. wow. I know the sides shouldnt outshine the main but man this was close. I really enjoyed her tater salad. Finally the peach cobbler. YES YES YES. Mama E's is one of the best BBQ joints in Fort Worth. Possibly the best. If you think Railhead qualifies for this, please stop reading. Mama E's has a very unique and down to earth environment. They have a lot of regulars who will come talk to you and adds to the very welcoming atmosphere. The bbq sandwich is really good, as is are the links. But what really kills it is the potato salad, it's top notch. Probably the best I've had in my life. The only trouble you might have is that it's a little small (it only has about 4 tables), so don't go at a peak lunch hour. Overall Mama E's is a complete BBQ experience. read more

This is undoubtedly the best barbequed brisket I've had since I came to Texas nearly 16 years ago. This (gasp) Yankee had never seen barbeque like this when I first came to Texas. Most of the barbeque I've tried has been good to so-so. I've tried Soulman's BBQ and it's quite good but nobody holds a candle to Mama E!!! It seems like just another barbeque place from the outside but the brisket is so tender you can barely tell the difference in texture between the meat and the bread! My husband and I took a friend there today and she tried the ribs and some sweet potato pie...oh man, she loved 'em both!! The place is not fancy but definitely clean. Over a year later, I made it back to Fort Worth and had to eat here again! I was craving the awesome fried catfish and hush puppies but was told that was only their special on Friday. After raving about it, though, they said if I ordered the day before, they would make it special for me. Wow! What service! I ended up trying their brisket, which was so tender it melted in my mouth. It did come drenched in a bunch of BBQ sauce, though, so if that's not your thing, might want to order BBQ sauce on the side. Then, I came back the next day for the fried catfish, hush puppies, and the AMAZING fried okra. How is it possible to have fried food that is crispy but not at ALL greasy??? Plus, they will also let you order whole pies the day before, too, so I special ordered 3 of those for friends. They didn't even make me pay ahead of time, just took me on the honor system. So I've really been on this soul food/BBQ drive recently... no idea why. This little no-frills joint seems to sell ice as a main commodity... this has me mind-boggled. I do know one thing though, the food here is tasty. I always judge these sort of places based on price, and for $21, you can sample pretty much all things tasty here. I particularly enjoy BBQ joints that offer southern sides, which are a nice change from beans and slaw. My mother and I split a turkey leg, ribs, brisket, cabbage, beans and rice, and a smothered pork chop. Remember when you used to get a nice turkey leg at the state fair, and it was sometimes dry, and it was about $9? Well, pay no more! For $5 you get a juicy, sauced-up turkey leg covered in some classic white bread. The brisket and ribs came already sauced, but the sauce was nice and runny, so it didn't overwhelm the meat. Brisket was better than average, but could've used more smokiness. Ribs were the classic spare ribs, and were good, but again, they could've used more smoke. Perhaps they shouldn't drown their meat. Alongside the BBQ plate, red beans and rice were well done, and the cabbage was peppery, though soggy. Good sides, nothing special. On that same "note" (hehe, get it? soul... music?), the smothered pork chop had a perfect crust that melted in with that smothering gravy, although I would have preferred a sort of stickier gravy. Humble and casual, this eatery definitely puts up the perfect combo of soul food and meat, but don't expect outrageous food. Just good, solid, unpretentious food. Now THIS is classic home cooked food (and BBQ). I went in with a 5 year itch to finally try this place. This joint is as honest as it comes. It's all about the food here and superior customer service. I currently don't have a solid place to go, in Fort Worth, for some genuine home cooked food so Mama E's is a real gift. I let Mama E, herself, suggest what I should get for lunch on this occasion and I'm so glad she mentioned the meatloaf. BTW if you're not a "mmm, I really love meatloaf" person maybe this isn't the place for you. I can honestly say it was the most delicious home cooked lunch I've had in a long long time. The meatloaf can't be beat. I got the lunch special so I also had 2 sides (green beans and butter beans) and a drink (perfectly sweet lemonade). You'll want the lemonade to balance the savory meat loaf. I have to say I could not have been any more pleased with how yummy the food was and how kind Mama and her Daughter were to a strange new patron. The food was so tasty it had me dancing in my seat. I'm guessing that is what triggered them to let me taste test their new apple cobbler. Again solid and satisfying home cooked food in the historic south side of Fort Worth (right off of 35W south). Learned from a neighbor that this restaurant was doing fried turkey for Thanksgiving. Ordered mine and picked it up a day before Thanksgiving. The reheating process was easy. It didn't come with gravy so I purchased some from them as well. Although the gravy was a bit pricy but it was totally worthy. The owner was right. The gravy was so good. I don't like white meat. But this turkey breast was so juicy so I loved every single bit of it. The turkey nor the gravy was too salty like many restaurants would do to make their food tasty. Overpriced food with no seasoning. This was my first time here and I won't go back. The beans were just pork and beans(not baked beans) straight out of the can. The potatoe salad is made with instant potatoes and taste like nothing but a jar of Hellman's mayonnaise. The slices of bread were hard. And the meat is covered in a barbeque sauce that seems to be thinned out with water and no flavor. (They don't bother to ask if you want it on the side.) Cole slaw that was practically solid mayonnaise with a little cabbage added for texture and flavor. Mama Is the sweetest lady you'll ever meet. Her staff is professional and polite, but the food was not at all what I expected. I ordered the rib dinner which consisted of three full sized ribs plus rib tips or pieces. They were a little dry on the ends, perhaps a bit over cooked so the sauce was a big help to that; I also had double potato salad which was kind of sweet like sugar was in it and it was mashed which is not my preference. My wife had the baked chicken, stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams and Green Beans. The chicken was bland, soggy and over cooked; the cranberry sauce was canned; the stuffing was wet and bland they gave her greens instead of green beans and they were overcooked and mushy when chewed. We shared a mini sweet potato pie which lacked sweetness. Our Kool-Aid was a bit sweet, but drinkable. Our hopes where up for some good soul food, but we were let down.
