Love this sushi spot!! However, it is on the pricier end but I mean the sushi is good! Usually order take out because it's a smaller restaurant and we have a toddler but when we have gone in they give excellent customer service, always so friendly. Have recommended it to my sister and she also loves it! read more

This review is only based off rolls. I've never had any of their sushi. I work in the area and this is my go to spot for rolls. They have endless options, probably one of the only sushi places I've ever seen with that many premium rolls selection. Their rolls are fresh and good. You know a sushi place is legit when they close for partial hours in the day. I've been here countless times and it's always good and fresh. I am waiting to rate it 5/5 until I try sushi. read more

I first came here in a first date. The customer service was nice. But the sushi rolls were very thin and would fall apart when I tried to pic it up. For the price I paid I honestly feel I didn't get my moneys worth. read more

I think this place used to be B.A.D sushi! We were craving sushi in Old town with a price point more reasonable for lunch, and decided to give Mama Ms a try. We saw there were happy hour specials for most days of the week. The restaurant was half full and we got a table by the sushi counter. Our waiter was very courteous and speedy. She acknowledged the check in iced tea-it was a matcha which Was a pleasant surprise. We ordered two lunch specials, the sashimi special and the sushi and roll special, both of which came with miso soup and the house salad. There was more than enough food in both set and we left full, which I'm always surprised about after sushi. The chef even replaced my boyfriends tuna with bluefin, he said the fish was fresh and fantastic. Would come by again! read more

Received a flyer announcing a new sushi restaurant in old town. It was a hot Saturday night and there were tons of people in old town, maybe leftover stragglers from the UCLA game earlier or people still hoping to get their hands on the new iPhone. Walked in at around 630 and there was only one other couple seated at a table so we had our choice of tables to be seated at. Browsed through the menu and quickly knew that this was a roll type of sushi restaurant. 90% of the items on the menu were of different variations of sushi rolls. Not bad if people enjoy that but I do prefer traditional sushi ... oh wells. All in all the service was good but the only complaint I had was how quickly the restaurant filled with the smell of oil as they were frying the soft shell crab. I think they need a stronger hood in the kitchen. If I ever was in the mood for rolls, I'd definitely come back. 3.5 stars for this dining experience. read more

Mama m sushi and roll was a restaurant my friends and I just happened to stumble upon. When we went in the overall environment was nice and seemed very typical of a Japanese restaurant. I went during lunch on a weekday, so there it wasn't to crowded. The hostess was nice and showed us to a nice large table. We saw on a sign outside that it was all day happy hour, and even though their menu has specific times, they do in fact have all day happy hour for the food. However their selection isn't that great. Mostly just a dollar or two off of the regular price. I ended up ordering a chicken and salmon teriyaki bento box for about $13 (not part of happy hour). The bento box included the two protein (or you could choose from other protein options), miso soup, small salad, and rice. A little pricey but the chicken portion that they gave was pretty large. However I felt the chicken didn't taste very good, and the teriyaki sauce had very little flavor. My friends also ordered some ramen, and some rolls from the happy hour menu but nothing really blew us away. Personally, I felt the ramen was the least worthwhile because it didn't taste particularly great but cost $20! Overall it was a very average and plain meal. read more

Usually I enjoy eating here the food is very good. This last time I went it was really busy. We were skipped in line which was no big deal. Then after a while of waiting for our food we noticed everyone that came after us started getting their food before us. We got tired of waiting and asked for it to go instead, we weren't even hungry anymore. They packaged our food to go but didn't notify us or the servers so it sat behind the counter for 15 mins. I got a box lunch of tempura & California rolls at BAD sushi and I never thought I'd say this, but the equivalent meal in Westwood is better and cheaper! Anyway, I needed a comparison against Kabuki, and BAD sushi firmly gets 3-stars. It's a competently prepared meal, but nothing special. I thought the tempura batter was a little too thick, and the tempura was not very crunchy. You should hear a crunch when you bite in tempura! This tempura does that, but it's more like a whimper. The California rolls are good, and for some reason you get 8 instead of 6. I have no idea what's going on. The green salad is pretty good. At Yamato (see those pics), you get all of that, plus green salad plus edamame plus cucumber salad plus fruit, and it's $1 cheaper. What a bargain. Anyway, BAD Sushi is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so keep that in mind if planning to come here. read more

Yawn...so this placed used to be called "Bad Sushi," and I assume they finally renamed it after they realized how terrible of a name that was. Well, that name is actually pretty accurate. The sushi here isn't very great. Nothing I tried was. When I first went here, I thought the food was good. Nothing amazing, but good enough for me to come back. They have a happy hour menu that has a bunch of cheap items to snack on like dumplings, etc. But the next two times I went were not good. We only went a 3rd time because we thought maybe the 2nd time was just a fluke. It wasn't. We got one of the shrimp tempura rolls and whatever shrimp they use is not good. It has a weird taste, almost like defrosted frozen shrimp maybe?! It just leaves a weird taste in your mouth. They also douse all of their rolls in mayo. Lots of mayo, bleh. I suppose if you're hungry and looking to not spend much, the happy hour menu might be appealing for you, but if you want real sushi, avoid this place. read more

I never understood by they wanted to be named B.A.D. Sushi ever since they opened in Dena. It actually kept me from walking in until months after their doors opened. Now, I've been wanting to come back here ever since I had dinner here! I had a pretty good first time experience dining alone. Went in when it wasn't busy, sat by a TV and ordered a bunch of sushi in peace. There was a deal going on that if you spent a certain amount, you would get to choose 1 item off this specific list they had for FREE! Yes, free after you spend $20 minimum, lol... I traded my "freebie" in for a Sapporo, yummm. I did kind of over order the amount of food for just 1 person, me... but I didn't mind packing a to go box to enjoy later or give to my other half for dinner. There were so many items off the menu that I wanted to try :[ I guess this place would be a nice casual sushi spot for dates since that's all there were when I went... couples everywhere (just 2-3 to be exact). I would say this is good for small groups... there is also a small sushi bar seating area. Oh yes and there is a wall water feature which is nice. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Pasadena!! My fiancé and I come here all the time, so the servers always recognize us and go above & beyond to accommodate us, which is why we keep going back! Highly recommend the Naughty Girl roll, and their Pork Chop or New York New York roll. Everything is always so fresh and flavorful! Hopefully one day they offer an All You Can Eat option, because that's the only reason why we ever pass on this place one night. The chefs & servers are always so warm and welcoming, and they have a great lunch special too. Highly recommend, and I'm fairly judgmental when it comes to sushi because I love it so much. I'll always be a loyal customer here! I bring my friends & family all the time! read more

Happy hour is available only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30pm-7pm. Unfortunately, I came in on a Sunday so I didn't get to take advantage of their happy hour, but maybe next time! I have to say that BAD Sushi has pretty good rolls. I love their location since it's away from the busyness of Colorado Blvd and there's plenty of street parking on Sundays. The menu is a bit overwhelming--lots of pictures and choices! For our appetizer, we had the Baked Mussels which takes about 15-20 min for them to prepare. I thought they were pretty standard--I've definitely had better when it comes to mussels. The Ocean Wraps were my favorite. Albacore wrapped spicy tuna and cucumber, no soy paper wrap and no rice (4 pieces). It had great flavor and had a very light taste to it. The regular Albacore rolls were really good as well. I'm a huge fan of Albacore and the Albacore here was fresh and delicious. The Say Sushi roll with Yellowtail on top was okay--it was plain and light. It's a good roll to get if you want something that's not fried and not drenched in sauce. Prices are affordable and the sushi is pretty good, BAD Sushi will definitely be on my list whenever I'm craving for sushi. read more

I've ordered from here twice now for to-go. They do a really good job of separating the sauces and boxing it up. But if you order a lot, they cheap out and put two in one box. Then unfortunately I can't tell which sauce is for which one. I usually just wing it if this happens because I'm not about to call them or look it up on their site to see if it's the hot oil one or the thousand island soy sauce one. Did I just spill a secret, oops. All their spicy tuna stuff and baked salmon is really good. They have a lot of eel on the menu that I'll have to try next time. Call me crazy but I do like that ooey, gooey, bitterness sometimes in my sushi haha. Anyways, this is worth a try if you're in the neighborhood. $12-$15 range per special rolls. read more

Our first time here, we went for two very different lunch specials. Hubby had a sushi special and said all of the sushi were very fresh. He enjoyed the soup and salad that came with the special as well. My tonkatsu ramen was one of the best I can remember. The porkbelly was tender, the flavored egg was good, and all the flavors and textures went well together. We are already planning to come back to try some of the other lunch specials. read more

You know I love this place. Been going here for years. However, Saturday had reservations for me and the hubs. It was a special night. It took 15 minutes to get water while other table seated after us got their orders taken and food served before us. Ok no biggie... ordered after 20 minutes then waited 45 minutes for my husband's meal of tempura, soup, etc. then an additional 15 minutes for my sushi order. It was busy which I understand but management should have stepped in after an hour don't you think? Watching all 4 guys behind the sushi bar are busy working. Don't know what the hold up was but time management has always been an issue for me here. Previously, my phone orders I've always had to wait additional time as well. Great food but Come on guys get it together.... read more

One of my friends introduced me to this place! It's located in old town pasadena, pretty convenient location. It wasnt crowded at all when we got there, got seats right away. They have a fairly large menu, lots of stuff to chose from with cool different rolls. We picked a few to share and all of the ones we chose had great flavor with the fish tasting fresh and yummy. I liked that they have cool names for the rolls as well! The service was great here, quick and were always checking on us. Theres lots of options for parking as well, street/lots/meters, etc. Its not a large restaurant, so I can imagine that this place gets crowded during peak times. read more

Found a new sushi spot for me and my love, sushi was fresh and tasty, staff was friendly, courteous, and helpful. First time trying this place and I lets just say I'm definitely coming back. I won't be surprised if I become a regular. Our server was extremely nice. I've had bad experiences when I ask for extra ginger but this place didn't hesitate to refill the ginger. You must try their spicy edamame. I've never had bay thing like it. I was at at a training walking distance from this restaurant so we went to try it. The atmosphere was nice and the music was good. Unfortunately my first experience here won't have me coming back. The bistro box price was lunch was reasonable you had a few different choices. The unfortunate part for me was as I was enjoying the terriyaki chicken I found a long hair in my chicken that was covered in sauce. This was disgusting to find. We called the waitress over and she genuinely felt bad and immediately removed the food. They made a new one for me but at this point I was disgusted and couldn't eat. I'm sure I could of complained enough to have my meal comped but I didn't. The fact that they did not offer that and charged me the meal was a no go. The food was okay but the hair in my food was not. read more

Look, I'm really not trying to be a dick but the sushi was pretty gross. The rice was really mushy/clumpy and weird tasting like it was either old or over cooked, maybe both! I know it's not how it should be because I frequent a lot of other great sushi spots in Los Angeles and know what to expect. I wanted to try this place out because it seems like maybe it's under new management, but I wasn't happy with the food and won't be coming back. read more

Poor quality.... I had the charashi bowl, the shrimp was over cooked. There was a piece of sushi that was slice poorly. I'm missing half the slice. The wasabi was really light to taste, maybe diluted in too much water. Ikura sushi..... The seaweed was soggy and ikura was dry. Clearly it was not fresh. read more

It was half of what normally comes in the box but the potatoes were stacked high and of course extremely oily. I was like ok let's just eat this because I don't have more time to find another place to get food plus I've already splurged. The chicken was undercooked and rubbery and came with no chicken breast like it normally does just some boney legs. Since I was so hungry and paid the extra money for "light" chicken I still ate it. I'm sick now, the night of May 8th I'm still on the toilet. Save your money and go to Zankou if you want good rotisserie chicken they've been doing it right in LA since the 80s. Or Costco; 5$ chicken unless you want a $32 dollar chicken here to make you and your family sick and poor.

Not the best choice of names for a restaurant, but I decided to try this place out tonight. Aside from it being 85 degrees, and getting slow service from the waitress considering there was one other table, the food was good, but not great. There is an abundance of different menu items to slow your decision making process that is for sure. Nothing that we ordered was undesirable, yet nothing was so good that it was scarfed up right away. This is definitely a more americanized version of sushi, but sometimes that is what you are looking for. I should have paid more attention to the name BAD before I drove all the way there. The place it's REALLY BAD, bad service, bad prices, bad location, no parking only if you are lucky you can find one street meter space, small place and all the tables are so close that you cannot have a private conversation, THEY CHARGE FOR GINGER this is super bad and also super cheap. I am allergic to shrimp and crab and they did not want to make any substitutions due to my allergy. I will rather drive a little more to go to Little Tokyo where I can get the real sushi and not attitude. read more
