I hate giving a bad review, even though this is only my opinion, I am disappointed. This is only the second I have ever given, I like giving cheers instead of jeers I believe every place deserves a second chance, we have a second chance and I have to say we won't be going back. Last year we ordered a couple pies from them and the crust was burnt and the pie was oily. We order from them again and crust is burnt and the pizza is oily again, the pizza was so hard to bite we had to use a knife & fork and it was like cutting through cardboard. All the food was overpriced, except the pies, they were reasonably priced. Both times I have been in here they have been dead and practically no business, not really a great sign, especially when you're more of an Italian restaurant and grottos (even worse) pizza is up the road and busy. Although more than likely we will not be back to their place, I really do wish them great success with their new location and I hope they do well there. This place has such great potential, and it seems as though they're wasting that potential away, has the hometown pizzeria feel with a Digorno quality. I stopped by to grab the lunch special...2 slices and a soda. When I walked in, there was no one in the front dining/order area. I saw a guy in the back and he looked at me, then went back to whatever he was doing. I waited a few minutes thinking that he must be extra busy, he saw me and would be right out. Well...heard someone talking in the other dining area and saw the waitress.She was sweeping the floor and talking to customers that were eating their lunch. I could hear her telling them that she was sorry that she was sweeping but she thought that it was not dirt but possible farm animal debris. (yes, animal crap). Well, she eventually noticed me standing there and she said she would be right there. She came into the order area and asked me what I wanted to order. I asked for the lunch special and she said she would check to see if they had slices left. She asked the guy in the back and he said no. This is just so disappointing and probably won't be coming back here. It seems like the service has gone downhill and if it's too late to order lunch around 1 pm, maybe you shouldn't offer it on your menu. The floors were dirty and the server looked like she could use a good washing as well. We heard about Mama Maria's online and decided to come in for dinner. We live in North Jersey and miss good Italian food down here. We won't miss Italian food here anymore. Delicious!!! Every member of the staff we met was friendly and helpful from the moment we walked in to the moment Sal said see you next time. The menu is extensive with tons of Italian specialities, some that have been on the menu since opening. Our server Danielle was very attentive throughout the meal. The meals all came with soup or salad (all delicious). If you don't like a lot of dressing, just ask for it on the side. I didn't mind though and used the FANTASTIC HOMEMADE BREAD fresh out of the over to soak it up. Our meals were fantastic. Eggplant rollatini was fresh and well proportioned. Scallops in the daily special were well cooked and the white wine sauce was flavorful. The veal was tender and juicy. The lasagna was perfectly layered with meat and cheese, lots of extra sauce. Everything was piping hot and generously proportioned. We wanted dessert but we were way too full. There's always next time. Because we will certainly be back!! read more

Pleasantly surprised. Just had dinner here this evening. Ended up here because another restaurant was booked. I'm from NY/NJ area so I rarely choose Italian in other places, just assuming it won't be as good. I was wrong tonight. Our table ordered the calamari and arancini apps. Both delicious. Calamari was nice and crispy, not greasy at all. We all ordered pasta entrees and everyone cleaned their plates. Lobster ravioli, crab ravioli, mussels over linguine, chicken parm with penne. The restaurant is in a good location. The restaurant itself is clean and bright. I was very disappointed and the fact that I had asked for extra sauce to go with my entree when I was leaving and I was charged a dollar fifty. I was also charged $0.75 for an extra roll. New location, exceptional service, and the food's to die for! We get to stop in at least once a year and were lucky to accidentally notice that Mama Maria's had moved to a new location. The restaurant looks fresh and inviting. We were warmly welcomed and tended to throughout our time there. I had the chicken cheesesteak (OMG, the bread!!!) and my daughter had the pizza (she kept saying "Mmmmm"). We were very happy campers and I can't wait to come back during my vacation in three weeks! Good Italian food is a challenge to find in Delaware. Mama Maria's is very good. We have had several meals here and they have all been very good. You will not be disappointed. I order here all the time. Not any longer. And it's interesting how one worker can literally chase a customer out for good. One thing I don't deal with is rude. However I will say I ordered a month again I ordered ravioli and that is one thing I would never ever order there again because the sauce literally tasted like some can sauce. It was horrible. Their pizza has always been pretty good however I went in to pick up my pizza and I looked at it and said Yeah this was supposed be well done. I close my wallet and I walked out. She then came after me to my vehicle and said oh we can do that. I said don't worry about it. I said it should've been well done instead of a simple apology she said that as well done as she was laughing in my face. So my business is now at Frederica pizza. Went there for the first time tonight since I moved back east and it was legit amazing. And the prices match the prices on their website not like this place where their website as well as yelp does not match the prices. A mama's specialty pizza says $21 and it has for a very long time and every time you go in there it's actually $23. They do not tell customs that over the phone. Also if management or the owners wanted to make my situation right they had 10 seconds before I walked out that front door to stop me and they could had called me to apologize since they had my phone number yet they chose not to.
