The samples themselves were more than generous. The homemade BBQ is divine. The meat is tender and smokey, reminiscent of the keawe wood. My boyfriend and I wanted to try the brisket, but the man was sold out--rightfully so. We settle on the rib tips. Make sure to bring cash to avoid the $2 surcharge. Also be sure to tip! The L & L Chicken Katsu plate was huge compared this time to the Liliha drive inn chicken katsu I guess they cut back on the portions due to raising cost and now only sell bottle water no free water in cups. But over all the Liliha drive inn chicken katsu still is delicious and crispy and the dipping sauce is better and much more tastier. Fast service for both restaurants

The former name of Aloha Express is 99 Local Mix Plate. They used to be at Moanalua 99 food court/shopping center. The service is still cheerful and efficient. After I ordered the mini Garlic Ahi, the cashier said it's a better deal to get the special... ok! Later, she told me that they sold out of ahi and can give me mahimahi... ok! Thank you! The rice was ok and the macaroni salad had small bits of carrot and onion in it. I dined in because I was between meetings. I was able to observe the walk-in customers and see how the cashier interacted with everyone. She's really good because she remembers the regulars and their orders! I usually try salmon belly where it is usually seasoned lightly to bring out the natural flavor of the salmon, but Guava Smoked's salmon belly is just grilled in a way that makes the salmon sweet/crispy and still get traces of the salmon taste as well. It's definitely not your traditional Japanese-style way of cooking salmon belly but really just their own. I'd go back and get this again. Another thing too. I'd get this with beer. This would hit very hard with alcohol but because I don't drink I need a kombucha. The grilled salmon belly would go perfect with it. Cheers! There were 3 original sauce for Yakiniku. He remembered us, we used to order for take out. We are fan of Yakiniku Sizzle. Ishiyaki Bibimbap was so delicious, much much better than anywhere else, the best in Hawaii. Yakiniku meats were so fresh and tendered. We are so lucky we live close by. I want to try lunch menu too. The meat is reasonably high quality, the banchan is generous (the last few times I went they even had poke as a banchan included with the meal), and the service is friendly. The "kimchee soup" is one of my favorite kimchee jjigaes on the island. Refills of meat flow generously out of the kitchen, unlike some other AYCE experiences where each subsequent order gets smaller and smaller until they finally cut you off because you've reached the time limit. I only have one gripe. While each table has a very powerful burner for grilling the meat, their universal approach is to prop up a tilted cast iron plate over the fire to grill on. It's propped at an angle so that the oil flows into a catch pan on the side. This usually means that the half of the plate tilted closer to the fire gets really hot, while the other half struggles to get hot enough and risks just boiling your meat. It also makes adjusting the fire a tricky process - if there's a lull between meats coming to your table, someone might come by and, understandably, turn down your flame. That's fine, but when the food does come out, it takes a long time to get the cast iron hot again. This doesn't stop me from coming back for more here, but just one thing I wish was better about an otherwise great experience. There is a parking lot out front but it is cramped and usually fills up. There is usually someone helping to guide parking, but when it's completely full there's only so much they can do. Street parking in the area can also be a little bit tricky.

Overall I'll be coming here whenever I need my soondae fix!! If you haven't tried, definitely come and try! I still need to try the acye here with friends one day!
