The first time I tried Mamahuhu was in October. My husband and I ordered 2x super savory pineapple bun chicken sandwiches, cleaver cut fries, and the mala cucumber salad. Unfortunately, one of the chicken sandwiches came out undercooked, though the staff handled it well by making us a replacement and removing it from our bill. Thankfully, the meal was pretty tasty overall, so we left satisfied despite the mishap. That said, don't go in expecting the bun to resemble a traditional HK-style pineapple bun as the flavor and texture are pretty subtle. Honestly, it would've been much better if they leaned and capitalized into that aspect more. The cleaver cut fries were crispy and flavorful, especially with extra of their MSG seasoning and accompanied ketchup. I'd skip on the cucumber mala salad though. I wanted to give Mamahuhu another try since my first visit was during the time that they had just recently opened. Flash forward to May, we ordered the same items minus the cucumber salad. Unfortunately, this visit was a major let-down, instead of a redemption. Both the sandwiches and fries had noticeably declined in quality. The fried chicken portions seemed significantly smaller this time and the sandwich itself lacked the same flavor and quality that stood out during the first visit, even after adding extra MSG seasoning. As for the fries, they arrived heavily drenched in oil. It's disappointing that both the quality and portion sizes deteriorated because it has a lot of potential.

I tried Mamahuhu at Town & Country Village, Palo Alto, Mon 4/13/26 after work. I ordered at the cashier but they do have three machines to order yourself which I prefer not to use. I got mapo tofu pork rice plate $16, after tax $17.62. It's a big scoop of rice, big amount of mapo tofu, little spicy, not much pork, very salty and lots of black beans. Side of cucumber salad was good. Help yourself to tap water. One unisex bathroom to the right of the register.

Mamahuhu's Palo Alto location suffered a tortured start, with food served only in takeout containers for many months. It is nice to see it finally properly open with real dishware. The menu leans too strongly on fried chicken, which is generally good here but occasionally the flour coating remains gooey (echoing another reviewer here). The beef and broccoli dish is great, with much better flavour than Panda Express's rendition, although the quantity of protein is small. I would like to see more pork dishes on the menu. The tomato garlic noodles have great flavour, and the sesame cucumbers are lovely too. The seaweed fried rice is interesting. Prices are okay, about in line with the quality of the food.

I went to Palo Alto this past weekend with my sister and my husband and we went around Town and Country Plaza for a bite to eat. I remembered seeing Mamahuhu on Instagram when it first opened, so we decided to have a bite to eat there. Mamahuhu markets itself as a fast casual Chinese-American restaurant founded by Michelin-starred chef Brandon Jew. When we went into the restaurant, it was moderately filled and there were three kiosks (two that were working, one that was out of order) for customers to order. There was also a gentleman working at the front counter who kindly let us know he could take our order but we opted for the kiosk so we could look at the photos and ingredients. My husband ordered the mapo tofu while I ended up getting the broccoli beef and my sister had the sweet and sour chicken. After ordering, we were prompted to retrieve a table number to set at our table so that our server could deliver the food for us, which reminded me a bit of McDonald's dine-in orders. The food came out surprisingly quick and my husband went to get water and napkins for us at the self-serve station. Our food was served with a fluffy bed of rice and a small side of sliced cucumbers drizzled with a creamy sauce and sprinkled with sauce, which gave the salad an extra dimension. My broccoli beef was decent although I think the sauce for the beef was a bit too salty and heavy for my taste. I enjoyed the crispiness of my sister's sweet and sour chicken and the silky tofu in my husband's mapo tofu. It was a fun and interesting experience and pretty affordable, although I did note that my sister was still hungry after eating her plate. If you're looking for a decently priced restaurant with good service and food to fill your stomach, I think Mamahuhu is a pretty good pick.

Chicken sandwich-The most disgusting food ever!! All dishes the Chicken is over fried thigh meat chicken. Overcooked oily outside and undercooked inside. On sandwiches Bun is like a Hawaiian bun but fluffier This no way a James beard restaurant.

This one was a little bit tough. Yes it was like the first week of opening, but the lack of flavor save for one dish was prominent. To be fair this was a to go order, and it took me 15 minutes to get home The food: Cashew chicken: It was super bland and very one note. The ingredients in and of itself were good but again lack of seasoning doomed this. The Jade fried rice up grade was okay but again lacked flavor Sweet and Sour Chicken: Okay this one was a glorious throwback to dining out in the 70's and early 80's. The right amount of sweet and sour, with chunky vegetables. It took me back (minus the red dye from that era). The noodles were okay but I found myself twirling them in the sauce to amp up the flavor. Chicken Sando: The pineapple bun sounded great but was done in terms of structural integrity from bite one. The time it took to get home had an effect and this one may be best eaten there. It was good. The chicken had some flavor and the slaw added a needed crunch but could also have used some seasoning. Tomato Garlic Chow Mein: Fantastic presentation and the noodles were cooked well. There was a bit of flavor, and I loved the cherry tomato's which was a nice touch. Fries: the Ke-Tsiap was really good but the fries seemed a bit under. Again the 15 minutes home may have impacted them The staff was friendly and the interior had a nice modern feel to it. I will go back and perhaps try something else to see if it was just a bad day, kinks being worked out, or I just ordered the wrong stuff.

I'm a huge fan of this restaurant! The food here is basically Chinese-American that focuses on the fusion of unique organic ingredients to create bold flavors. I love their spicy chicken sandwich that consists of a sweet pineapple bun, freshly fried chicken with chili oil and their "MSG" seasoning. This pairs beautifully with garlic potato fries that are salted just right and cooked golden brown. For dessert, I thoroughly enjoyed their cherry sundae. This is so good and so far the best dessert I've had this year. It's a banana oatmeal soft serve with burnt caramel sauce, candied cashew, red bean paste and maraschino cherry! Overall, this is a really cool restaurant that is self serve. They have 3 machines for ordering which is easy to use. They also sell merchandise such as shirts and their famous MSG seasoning which is a cool item for your kitchen. The food here is phenomenal and I'd love to come back. Huge shout out to Chef Brandon Jew for putting together a unique menu that is one of a kind.

I was a bit confused by the name Mamahuhu (馬馬虎虎)because you usually use that phrase as like "so so" or "lukewarm" so I was a little worried. But I tried it recently and I did think it was not bad! You can order via the tablets or order in person. There is plenty of seating and free water. A rice plate was about $16 and they give you a decent amount of food. I tried the eggplant tofu and it was fine! I thought it was a tiny bit too saucy/salty but not bad and I would consider getting it again. The jasmine rice was a pinch on the drier side but I still paired it with the food. You could also sub out the cucumbers and get double rice! I might do that next time since I think I'm allergic to cucumbers and can't eat them anyway. The MSG shaker was not bad! I thought it would be quite salty but it actually wasn't really that salty. Nice to add if you want extra flavor. I also tried my spouse's lazi chicken and I liked it! The spice level was nice. He did think it had a tiny bit too much breading which I could see but I didn't mind. I also tried the fancy crab Rangoon. The cream cheese did taste nicer than the regular Chinese restaurants' crab Rangoon but not sure if worth double the price. But I would get it again!

Ive heard a lot of great things about this place on the city so I was really excited to hear they opened in T&C. Super savory chicken sandwich is soooooo good!!! Great flavor. Light flakey batter- it reminds me of like fish and chip batter. Very well seasoned. I would come back for this again but would also love to try other things on the menu. Walked in and was greeted immediately. Theres 3 kiosk for self ordering. After taxes and fees my sandwich was about $20. I think its made to order as it took some time. It was my first time there and it was pretty empty. There was one other person working (had a laptop) and another family just finishing up their meal. Sharing parking can get busy with all the surrounding businesses. Especially for lunch. I took away a star but my bag didnt come with napkins, offered any hot sauce, utensils etc. i seen a sauce bar area but it wasnt anything with a togo container /lid. I would have appreciate the worker who handed me food to be like oh if you need any condiments its there. I didnt grab anything else assuming it was all in there for a to go order and i was in a rush. Cute place though. Ill be back

I was so excited to see Mamahuhu moving into Palo Alto, it's just what Town & Country needed! And I'm so glad I don't have to drive all the way to SF to get my fix. My favorite will always be the MSG chicken, which was perfectly crispy on my first visit here. I had such a good meal that I went back here to bring my husband the next day. I love the self-service kiosks where I can select options like double rice and fried rice upgrades. Interior is super clean with the Mamahuhu modern twist. I was happy to MSG seasoning jars were available for sale as well as T-shirts.

After a long bike ride my husband stopped here for lunch. We split beef broccoli plate, msg chicken sandwich and malt milktea. I like how you can order off of a kiosk it makes things easy. Also, when ordering the sandwich there is an option to have it split in half. Which is really nice if you are sharing the sandwich like we were. 8/ 10 Beef broccoli plate is huge! The rice is very savory and seasoned very well. I think might have some of the msg seasoning they make on it. It's absolutely delicious. The portion pretty big. 10/10 MSG chicken sandwich! I have nothing but good things to say about this. The chicken was crunchy and packed with flavor. The bread was also soft like a pillow and had some kind of seasoning on it too. I would come back just for this sandwich. My husband and I were very pleased. 7/10 Malt Milktea it's a bit on the sweet side because it's mixed with condensed milk. It has a very creamy milky flavor mixed with black tea? I'm not too sure. It's very refreshing on a hot day and paired well with the sand which. Come check them out! Get the MSG sandwich!

Delicious food and wonderful to see expansion to Palo Alto! Love the SF locations. Lazi Chicken was spicy, crispy, so flavorful. Favorite dish! Mapo Tofu with Pork has the softest tofu and really flavorful pork sauce and love this! A close second favorite dish! Capital Curry Chow Mein has soft noodles and a bit of a fired wok noodle flavor. Liked the tofu pieces in the dish Sweet & sour chicken was nice and tangy. Went well with the veggies, though a bit on sweeter side. Staff is super friendly and there is solid seating indoors and a few outside tables. Everything kept clean and tidy as tables turned over

Mapo Tofu with Pork Rice Plate and Sweet and Hot & Sour Soup (Small)Sour

Tried Mamahuhu's from doordash 6/8 and found that the rice was undercooked, mapo tofu was overly seasoned, and too heavy. In regards to the meal, there was a cucumber salad in the same container as the rice and mapo tofu with sesame sauce which felt a bit weird to have. Overall, didn't enjoy the Mapo Tofu.

Reservation was easy to make over the phone and you have to preorder duck ahead of time. We also got pan fried buns, bok choy, and mandarin fish. Dishes are expensive but good quality. I read mixed reviews about the duck but I thought it was great - crispy skin and relatively tender/juicy meat. It is the first time I've seen an extra charge for the duck pancake wrappers; it was not a pleasant surprise but at least they were thin and delicious. We opted to have a soup made from the leftover duck and that was delicious. Service was also pretty good; they even packaged the leftovers for us. Unfortunately, it just wasn't as good overall as the Belmont spot. The space itself is older, and the seating feels pretty tight and not as comfortable. As for the food, we ordered the Peking duck, which came with a lot of meat, but the duck itself didn't taste fresh at all. It had that distinct, stale "old meat" taste to it, and the texture was completely off and mushy rather than having a nice, fresh bite. The xiao long bao missed the mark too--the wrappers were too thick and the filling wasn't nearly as savory or delicious as what we're used to. Even the basic steamed rice tasted like a cheaper, lower-quality grain. For the other dishes, the stir-fried scallion lamb was way too salty, even though we specifically asked them to go light on the salt, and it lacked that deep umami flavor they get so right at the other location. On the bright side, the Treasure's signature beef honeycomb tripe was actually really good, though the spice level is definitely on the higher side so beware if you're sensitive to heat. For dessert, I finished with the sesame glutinous rice balls in sweet rice wine because it's one of my absolute favorites, but it fell short since there was barely any wine or osmanthus flavor. The service was also pretty lacking throughout the night. They didn't even bother to clear our dirty dinner plates off the tight table after we ordered our dessert, so everything was incredibly cramped. They also completely ignored the rest of our Peking duck instead of proactively asking what we wanted to do with the carcass bones and the remaining meat. We had to specifically flag them down ourselves to ask about it and explain what we wanted done with it, which should really be standard practice for a proper duck service. Compared to the sister restaurant, the execution, environment, and service here just aren't quite there yet.

The service here is too slow. We got the string beans, kale, both are tasteless and small portion. Never had I feel like it does not taste like anything. The XLB supposedly their speciality', is overrated. Is really nothing special. The worst dish is the hot and sour soup, is not authentic is spicy not sour. I won't be back

We enjoyed every dish! The chongqin spicy noodles, the salt and pepper shrimps, the sizzling cumin lamb, the fish in chili oil. Yum yum yum! We ordered the hottest version but it was not too spicy for us - it was very flavorful. The fresh cut red chillies they give you, was really spicy - the red bean spicy sauce was just right. We enjoyed the cool beers with the spicy food. It's a unique ambience for a Univ Ave restaurant- it's just a Chinese kitchen serving good food - like you came to a home and got served really well. Will come back again with more family members. Ps: another surprising thing - we were a party of 6 and they didn't automatically charge us the tip - I took care of them - because I was super satisfied and happy with my meal!

This is probably the only Chinese restaurant around here with such an inviting outdoor patio, which makes it perfect for us since our dog babies can relax too. The menu strikes a really smart balance between authentic Sichuan spicy dishes and more Americanized Chinese classics, so there's something for everyone. The signature spicy fish fillet in flaming red oil is a must-try -- bold, fragrant, and so satisfying it might have just saved me an expensive flight back to China. The chili oil wontons are my personal favorite starter and never disappoint. This is an easy repeat spot for us, and we'll definitely go back around CNY days.
