Surf Vietnam Box
Monica W.

This review is for a work lunch delivery so service and ambiance aren't applicable. I ordered the. Vietnamese Surf and Turf, and it was good for delivery. The steak and rice were well prepared. It could've used more fresh veggies and the shrimp were overcooked and very chewy, but for delivery it was good enough to order again.

SO GOOD. Came here after the Stanford vs Cal Big Game! We were so hungry and all the other restaurants near campus were packed, so came to this place instead! It was my first time here so the person at the front gave us some recommendations. Ended up doing the build your own bowl. Chicken and pork bowls were phenomenal. So yummy and filling and loved their house made sauces!

Chicken curry

The chicken curry always comes with crunchy potatoes. They're not a little crunchy, and in fact they're crunchy like a crisp apple. What is going on here? I have never seen a restaurant unable to properly cook a potato before. The carrots are crunchy too.

Highly recommend the garden box! I've also tried the create your own steamed veggies box (it's significantly cheaper than if you add a protein) and it is also really really good. Love the customizability and abundance of vegan options. I've tried all 3 curry sauces (green, yellow, red) and they are all delicious, note the red one is a little spicy. Portion sizes are pretty generous. Only thing I've tried here I would not recommend is the tofu spring rolls.

Asian Box. If you have any level of immaturity as me you might think the Asian Box is a category you find on adult websites. Perhaps that is where they draw the parallel. I mean who doesn't want to eat an Asian Box. It is kind of broad to name your restaurant the Asian Box when the Asian cuisine covers so many regions and flavors. My first impression is the assembly line is similar to a Chipotle or any poke establishment. They give you the option to customize your own box or pick one of the Chef's Signature Boxes. Each signature box covers a certain Asian cuisine. Add some five spice to the chicken and it could pass for Chinese food. Add some coconut curry to the tofu and you have Thai. Add some springs rolls and garnish the sides with some pickled carrots and you have Vietnamese. There's also boba for the Taiwanese. Unfortunately the rest of the Asians will have to wait for a menu change for their cuisine to be included. Oh by the way, everything is 100% gluten free. For some reasons those techies in the area are allergic to gluten. For my trip here I only tested the Vietnamese side of the menu. I got the shrimp spring roll and the Surf Vietnam box which is like a surf and turf rice plate. The spring rolls were actually pretty good. The sauce was good but was a bit watery and a bit lighter on the peanut butter flavor. The only gripe I had with the spring roll is the pointless bed of lettuce underneath. Garnishing with greens can make a dish more appealing sometimes but not necessary for these spring rolls. The surf and turf plate was decent. Steak was tender but tasted more like a roast beef. Shrimp was seasoned and flavorful. It also comes with a vinaigrette which made it taste more like a salad than a rice plate. I think I would've enjoyed it more with a traditional fish sauce. All in all, I think tasting the Asian Box once or twice won't hurt. It's a nice play of somewhat healthy Asian fast food. The restaurant offers limited seating indoors and outdoors. My impression is they cater to the corporate offices in the area. I'm sure you'll see the Asian Box in the menu if you work at one of those cool companies that provides lunch.

Bahn mi ...I guess
amado f.

The food is not as pictured by a long shot. Not even close talk about bait and switch. I order the banh mi, the bread is so dense and hard, meat was so chewy like it was microwaved, the pickled cabbage might as well be raw no pickled. To make it waste they serve me a big chunk of fat to eat. This place is like chipotle but for Vietnamese food. Don't eat here, everything felt like it was slapped together with no pride. You know when someone opens restaurant to make money but doesn't have passion in what they do. That's what this tastes like. Places like this don't last too long because the food speaks for itself unless you're into this chipotle style food. Sorry I won't be returning

I love Asian box. It's the kind of meal that is always satisfying to the right degree and feels well balanced and healthy. Chicken with a jasmine rice base is my go to, flavorful yet simple! The service is timely and kind!

While I never…read moremet the man, he has incredible taste, because Sweet Maple has the best breakfast food I've ever had in the bay area. Well worth the trip. The two of us were dubious about the Millionaire's Bacon, because it was hyped up to the point where it seemed unlikely that it could live up to the reputation. We were wrong. We ordered the Millionaire's Bacon sampler platter, which is four strips of long, thick pieces of bacon, baked with brown sugar and spices. There is the original, which is brown sugar, cayenne, red, and black pepper, which was sweet, salty, and the perfect amount of spicy. The other slices were orange, cinnamon, and rosemary. My partner enjoyed the orange best, whereas I loved the cinnamon, but we both thought the rosemary was underwhelming. The bacon itself was very thick and meaty with a minimal amount of fat, and was just clearly high quality pork. Truly worth the hype. We also got the bottomless mimosas, which not only had multiple choices of juice (we got raspberry lemonade) but were surprisingly heavy on the champagne. The waiter kept them coming without us needing to ask, to the point where I had to tell him I was done because I was a little too tipsy for breakfast. My partner got the chicken croffle, and was very impressed. I tried the fried chicken (though not the croffle) and it was very well spiced, very crunchy, and well cooked--juicy and tender. I got the big hip, which is deep fried "french toast". I wouldn't call it french toast myself, but it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and came with fresh fruit, butter, and syrup. There wasn't enough syrup for the entire dish, but I asked our waiter for more and he came back with it in less than a minute. On top of the food being as close to perfect as you can get, the service was great. Several different waiters checked in on us throughout the meal, making sure we were enjoying the food and that we didn't need anything else. The vibes of the restaurant are really enjoyable too. The décor is lovely, the sound levels are very reasonable, and everything was spotless during our visit. Overall, I can't recommend Sweet Maple enough, and I'm kind of glad it's not closer to my house because I would go bankrupt with the amount of Millionaire's Bacon I'd buy on a weekly basis.

The host received us warmly, but things slipped from there. Our table was missing cutlery and we had to flag our server down to get it sorted. We asked for a minute to look over the menu since it was our first visit. He did not come back for five minutes, and only because we flagged him down again. When we ordered, he took our request without making eye contact, attention clearly elsewhere in the restaurant. One dish came out. The second did not. Our server never circled back to check on us, and seemingly did not notice that one of us had no food in front of her. After nearly ten minutes, we flagged him down again. He called over from across the restaurant, not walking to us, with a "what?" We had to gesture that my guest still had no food. He came over briefly, confirmed our order, said it was coming soon, and left. No apology. No acknowledgment of the wait. No offer to make it right while one plate sat getting cold. The food eventually came, again with no apology. It was good. But by then, honestly, the experience had overshadowed it. We asked for a manager. Cathy came over, listened, and immediately apologized. She agreed the service fell short, gave us a break on the bill, and handled the situation with real grace. She is the reason this review has any stars at all! For reference, our server's name on the receipt read Mui F. I hope Cathy's conversation with him makes a difference, because Sweet Maple clearly has the food to back up its reputation. The service just needs to match it!

The service we received was good, they were attentive. That said, I dislike the 4% employer mandates fee that they added. Even though it is stated in the small text in the menu, it is still sketchy. Just add that to the price from the beginning so we know what we expect to pay, instead of adding extra cost at the end, when we receive the bill. Here's what we ordered: - Pandan creme brulee: has good Pandan flavor, but I don't think I actually like creme brulee in general (I prefer Flan) so I can't say about this one. - Siam spice cocktail: good. We ordered four dishes from section two. We weren't sure if it would be enough food, but it ended up being a perfect amount (perhaps because I was pregnant and there wasn't much more room in my belly haha). My husband started off with the wagyu beef tartare tartlet, which he enjoyed. For our four shared dishes, we got: 1. Scallion Croissant: This one was my fav! Recommend eating it all fresh while the texture stays crisp on the outside. The rou song (meat floss) flavor from the butter didn't come out as much as I'd like it to but I still enjoyed the Asian twist to the croissant. 2. Yeobo, Darling Chicken Wings: It didn't feel very special, but I'm always down for chicken wings. Could've been more tender. I enjoyed the shishito peppers that come with it. 3. Lu Rou Lasagna: A fusion of two things I really love! Lu Rou is slow braised minced pork belly. I forgot what the green "pasta" is made out of, but it was tasty. I had to get the chili oil on the side (due to my husband's spice intolerance). Not sure how it would have been with the chili oil incorporated into the dish, but I didn't think the chili oil added much. I bet Lao Gan Ma (chili crisp + chili oil) would've been superb with it. 4. Chilled Perilla Somyun: This was a refreshing dish, which helped balance out the other heavier dishes. I wasn't super wowed at first bite, but enjoyed it more and more with each new bite. I wanted to try the Wagyu Kalbi, but the price point is more than what I'm comfortable with. We opted out of dessert, but were pleasantly surprised when they brought out a small dessert for our anniversary. It was some sort of roll with chocolate over it, yum! Service was great. I appreciate that they inquire about food allergies prior to ordering. Throughout the meal, they always made sure our water cups were filled. The food itself doesn't necessarily make me want to come back a second time, but it was great as a one time date night spot!
