    Yellow curry box

Tried Asian Box today and had a great time! I tried the Chicken Curry Box with the yellow curry and this was absolutely delicious. This came with rice and chicken, potatoes and carrots in a yummy curry sauce. Also ordered the caramelized egg which was standard, nothing special. However, we did also get a side of the shrimp spring rolls which were very yummy and refreshing. It came with a side of peanut sauce which was delectable to dunk the rolls in. Overall, really enjoyed the food and would totally try again! This is a nice takeout spot so expect quick service and a casual ambiance!

This review is for a work lunch delivery so service and ambiance aren't applicable. I ordered the. Vietnamese Surf and Turf, and it was good for delivery. The steak and rice were well prepared. It could've used more fresh veggies and the shrimp were overcooked and very chewy, but for delivery it was good enough to order again.

SO GOOD. Came here after the Stanford vs Cal Big Game! We were so hungry and all the other restaurants near campus were packed, so came to this place instead! It was my first time here so the person at the front gave us some recommendations. Ended up doing the build your own bowl. Chicken and pork bowls were phenomenal. So yummy and filling and loved their house made sauces!

The chicken curry always comes with crunchy potatoes. They're not a little crunchy, and in fact they're crunchy like a crisp apple. What is going on here? I have never seen a restaurant unable to properly cook a potato before. The carrots are crunchy too.

Highly recommend the garden box! I've also tried the create your own steamed veggies box (it's significantly cheaper than if you add a protein) and it is also really really good. Love the customizability and abundance of vegan options. I've tried all 3 curry sauces (green, yellow, red) and they are all delicious, note the red one is a little spicy. Portion sizes are pretty generous. Only thing I've tried here I would not recommend is the tofu spring rolls.

Asian Box. If you have any level of immaturity as me you might think the Asian Box is a category you find on adult websites. Perhaps that is where they draw the parallel. I mean who doesn't want to eat an Asian Box. It is kind of broad to name your restaurant the Asian Box when the Asian cuisine covers so many regions and flavors. My first impression is the assembly line is similar to a Chipotle or any poke establishment. They give you the option to customize your own box or pick one of the Chef's Signature Boxes. Each signature box covers a certain Asian cuisine. Add some five spice to the chicken and it could pass for Chinese food. Add some coconut curry to the tofu and you have Thai. Add some springs rolls and garnish the sides with some pickled carrots and you have Vietnamese. There's also boba for the Taiwanese. Unfortunately the rest of the Asians will have to wait for a menu change for their cuisine to be included. Oh by the way, everything is 100% gluten free. For some reasons those techies in the area are allergic to gluten. For my trip here I only tested the Vietnamese side of the menu. I got the shrimp spring roll and the Surf Vietnam box which is like a surf and turf rice plate. The spring rolls were actually pretty good. The sauce was good but was a bit watery and a bit lighter on the peanut butter flavor. The only gripe I had with the spring roll is the pointless bed of lettuce underneath. Garnishing with greens can make a dish more appealing sometimes but not necessary for these spring rolls. The surf and turf plate was decent. Steak was tender but tasted more like a roast beef. Shrimp was seasoned and flavorful. It also comes with a vinaigrette which made it taste more like a salad than a rice plate. I think I would've enjoyed it more with a traditional fish sauce. All in all, I think tasting the Asian Box once or twice won't hurt. It's a nice play of somewhat healthy Asian fast food. The restaurant offers limited seating indoors and outdoors. My impression is they cater to the corporate offices in the area. I'm sure you'll see the Asian Box in the menu if you work at one of those cool companies that provides lunch.

    Bahn mi ...I guess

The food is not as pictured by a long shot. Not even close talk about bait and switch. I order the banh mi, the bread is so dense and hard, meat was so chewy like it was microwaved, the pickled cabbage might as well be raw no pickled. To make it waste they serve me a big chunk of fat to eat. This place is like chipotle but for Vietnamese food. Don't eat here, everything felt like it was slapped together with no pride. You know when someone opens restaurant to make money but doesn't have passion in what they do. That's what this tastes like. Places like this don't last too long because the food speaks for itself unless you're into this chipotle style food. Sorry I won't be returning

I love Asian box. It's the kind of meal that is always satisfying to the right degree and feels well balanced and healthy. Chicken with a jasmine rice base is my go to, flavorful yet simple! The service is timely and kind!

It's been 4 years since I've tried the Asian Box at this location. They now have a few more things on the menu like porridge. Being most carnivore, I went with the custom build it yourself box and chose chicken. Since I love all things spicy, they recommended the HOT BOX IT sauce. I added broccoli for 50 cents. Total price was $15+ The service is always really friendly at Asian Box and the store itself is kinda small with some casual seating outside. Palo Alto weather is usually really nice for outdoor dining. My box was okay, nothing impressive. I would consider it a small meal and you'd really have to order double protein for something heartier. Around the plaza, I would say this is probably one of the better for you options.

Because they are located at the beginning of downtown, there is usually plenty of parking on the adjacent streets and also a parking garage directly behind the restaurant at the Webster/Cowper Garage. The restaurant is well-lit, clean, and inviting. The tables are well-spaced from each other. For the appetizer we started with their salt and pepper calamari. This was excellent and was was served with a cilantro lime dipping sauce. Since a few of them have never dined at Tamarine or it's been years, I recommended one of my favorite dishes to share, the Empress Rice. The garlic and ginger sticky rice topped with a sunny-side up egg and drizzled with sweet soy sauce is a must. They break the egg and mix it in table-side. We also ordered their garlic noodles which was also great. Traditionally other restaurants use lo mein noodles or thin spaghetti, but they use egg noodles here. You can taste that wok-tossed garlic, butter, and parmesan cheese flavor in the noodles. I think there was a hint of black pepper too. For the mains, the shaking beef is always a hit. The filet mignon beef cubes are so tender and cooked a perfect medium rare. It's served with a side of arugula salad. It was our first time trying their lemon grass sea bass and we all loved it. Since this was pan roasted there was this flavorful lemongrass and garlic crust on the fish! The service here is consistently friendly and attentive. For dessert, we tried the black sesame cheesecake, mango coconut tapioca, and banana beignets. They put a happy birthday sign on the cheesecake, which was cute, but just a heads-up, the birthday dessert was not free. The food was good overall, but nothing really stood out to me. Also, as someone who eats Vietnamese food quite often, I did not feel like any of the food was actually Vietnamese. The branzino came with nuoc cham, but that was pretty much it. Most of the menu felt more generally Asian-inspired than Vietnamese, which was disappointing. The service was just okay. The servers were nice, but not super friendly, and the whole interaction felt a little awkward. I also felt rushed throughout dinner because they kept asking if they could take our plates, even though we were clearly still eating and there was still food left. The restaurant definitely has a classy vibe, but to me it felt more like awkward classy. Overall, the food was decent, but between the service and the lack of Vietnamese flavors, I probably would not rush back.

I was totally wrong! We were greeted and sent in to seat quickly. The seats have a sling at the bottom to place our bags. The fact that the seats are one piece without a gap between the back and the seat so we can put the bags behind our backs is already a big peace of mind. Monica took good care of us. I forgot how many times she refilled our water without asking; my glass is always full. She was warm and friendly and never overextended her time with us. She gave us a quick intro on the menu since it was our first visit. We went with the following: -Chilled Brentwood corn custard, trout roe, hearts of palm. It tasted good and the trout roe didn't taste as funny as my experience in Sweden. It was not as chilled as we'd like, but overall the taste is good. -Scallion croissant, rou song butter. The bread is crusty on the outside but soft on the inside. The moment we cut it up, the buttery aroma spreads and put us at awe. The rou song butter is fine and filling. I do wish there's more rou song as we dig into the butter. We've heard good words about this bread, glad that it is consistent and carries its reputation. -Halibut, cabbage, chili vinegar. Very tasty! Although a bite size portion, the rolled up halibut in cabbage is very balanced and flavorful. I only wish there's another piece for me to revisit. -Yeobo Darling chicken wings. It's like the Korean chicken wings, tasted good, not disappointing but honestly, how much better can chicken wings be in a place this good already. So I would say it's a steady dish that can't go wrong, but also hard to wow. We chose it as it has the restaurant name on it, but I would not call it its signature dish. -Lu rou lasagna. Interesting dish, the pasta was baked crispy at the edge and covered by the lu rou inside. It's like tasting a twisted version of meat sauce noodle in a Chinese dish. Worth trying. -Duroc pork collar & banchan. This is a jackpot dish. We couldn't stop talking about it all night long! Thick layer of pork, roasted and covered in the Korean gochujang sauce with a hint of miso? The texture is soft, juicy and absorbing. The fact that the chef can make it this thick yet maintain a consistent texture is impressive. We love this dish! -Crispy anchovy, koshihikari rice. We rank it as high as the pork collar. Soaked in flavor yet crispy, each grain carries the flavor equally. There's the right amount of anchovy on top, delivering the right flavor profile. Top dish! -Chocolate mousse, taro rice cake, cocoa nib tuile. We found the other 2 desserts too common, so we chose this one. A layer of hard cocoa on the top, with taro soup in the middle and some chocolate mousse at the bottom. It's hard to scoop all the way to get everything, but the taste is interesting and rich, slightly salty and not just plainly sweet. Interesting dish. The ambiance is a bit dark with warm yellow light. Slightly hard for us to read the menu under the dim light. And a bit embarrassing as we photographed each dish the flash went out. Limited street parking but there's a public parking lot at the back. Restroom's scented candle is another touch of service done right.
