I love discovering sleepers! Smack dab in the middle of Alexandria's Grand Mart plaza, the owners of Panaderia Latina (other spanish restaurant in same plaza) cashed in on this hidden gem. Mama's asian neighbor is the Tempt Asian Cafe on Little River Turnpike. I was really digging the chicken graphics outside of the place. Lets have a taste with what is inside! Their menu is pretty clear cut and I was surprised that they served pork or cheese papasu. A few items they offer is Pollo a la Brasa, and carne asada. At first walking in, I thought it was gonna be like a regular Guapo's type joint. I went ahead and ordered. I took the safe route. I remembered that everybody at work was raving about the chicken sandwich and after The Taco Place La Tapatia's (Woodbridge) misstep, I would rather be safe than sorry. I took a bite of the chicken sandwich and was quite impressed. It tastes as if they used the pollo a la brasa meat to fill my overstuffed sandwich. If not, they could have fooled me. They were not stingy on the meat. The sandwich came hot as the toasted bread housed tomato, tangy mayo and grilled onions. Bummer they could not replace my fries with yuca but Mama's fries were seasoned just right and better than generics. Good, quick meal for a mere 6 bucks? You got a deal, Mama! Overall, Mama's cooking is not that bad. Although, now I have the urge to play Cooking Mama on the Wii now.....?

It's ground‑level from the parking lot, so no climbing Mount Everest just to get a taco. The parking lot is small, but they do have handicap spots, so points for accessibility. There are large menu screens everywhere, and if you've aged like a fine bottle of wine (or just drink a lot of it), you'll appreciate how big and easy to read they are. They also have a couple of handheld menus at the counter. Seating is minimal with metal tables and chairs, so if you're a diva, bring your donut cushion. I ordered the Carnitas and pork belly, both sold as sides. The pork belly sits under a warmer at the counter, daring you to stay committed to that Weight Watchers plan. It's sold by the pound, and my piece came to $4.80. I almost put it back, but I'm pretty sure there's an unwritten rule about not returning food you've already mentally claimed. Even the cashier said, "Oof, that's pricey," but listen I liked it, and I'd pay it again. The half‑pound Carnitas for $7.99 were delicious and worth every penny. My foodie partner ordered the fried chicken plate. Medium comes with fries; large comes with rice and salad. I tasted her large plate the seasoning was on point, the chicken leaned toward being a little dry, but not enough to stop me from wanting to shake those tail feathers. I walked into this deli/convenience store/restaurant midday on a Friday. It's brightly lit and there is Latin music coming through the speakers at a reasonable volume. You order at the counter and bring your food back to one of their 15 or so tables. There's monitors with pics of the menu items for the Latin dishes-- helpful. I ordered the fried chicken plate (beans and rice and salad with three pieces of raw chicken). That chicken was so tasty! There were no beans, but there was a gravy that they served with it that made me not need the beans. The portion sizes are pretty big- more than I can eat at a setting. My sister got the Carnitas plate. She said they were tender and good. The media Libra doesn't come with sides. There's pay-by-the-piece pork belly warming in a container when you go to the counter-- she said her piece was good. There is some parking , but there's not much of it due to the size of the strip mall where it's located.

But maybe they were having a lot of problems that day. First, the salsa con queso was very runny, and had a strange taste. The salsa was also very liquid so maybe it's just badly blended together, but was hoping for something a little more.. The chips were good. They are thin, and they brought plenty of them. Tacos were pretty good, the fish had a unique taste that I couldn't place. Just.. strange in that way that wasn't exactly bad, but I didn't get the best feeling. The Chorizo taco was much better. Unfortunately I was disappointed by how expensive it was for what amounts to Costco ingredients. I lament not paying more attention in high school Spanish because of the three people serving us, only one spoke English, and that made it tough to ask any questions about the food. They give you a receipt with a QR code requiring you to use Toast to pay, which conveniently downloads a temporary app to your phone WITHOUT ASKING. That wasn't cool... Not at all. Overall it .. wasn't great. I LOVE TexMex food but this was mediocre, service mediocre, difficulty being understood and ordering, runny queso, strange fish, and expensive for what I could have gotten at Taco Bell for less.

The service was excellent and accommodating. I was impressed because I know large groups can be difficult to wait on, so was very pleased with the service and how quick they were to get our orders in and us served. We ordered a variety of appetizers, such as the the empanadas, calamari, and garlic shrimp. My favorite items were the empanadas and calamari, which were extra tasty with the accompanying sauces. We also ordered a variety of grilled meats, including the two large Parrillada meat platters and picanha . The accompanying sides we tried were the fries, cheese rice, fried yucca, and plantains. I really liked the plantains, but the cheese rice was not was I expected. It was more like grits than cheesy rice. The meats were cooked to how we requested it, and of course tastes especially good with the sauces. My favorite cuts were the strip steak, beef rib, and picanha. I didn't really care for the sweet breads, but that is a personal preference. Value wise, the Parrillada platters could easily feed 4 - 5 people, so we had plenty of leftovers. I would definitely recommend checking out La Estancia if you enjoy grilled meats!

The staff was wonderful, especially our server Noah, who was incredibly attentive and made the experience even better. We did the bottomless dinner, and the value is honestly unbeatable. We tried the grilled gem lettuce, marinated cucumbers, street corn, hoisin-glazed pork belly bao buns, P22 cheeseburger sliders, spicy shrimp & pancetta pizza, funghi pizza, dan dan noodles, rigatoni norcina, and the sesame steak skewers. Everything was delicious, but the standouts were the dan dan noodles (rich, savory, and packed with flavor), the funghi pizza (crispy with earthy mushrooms and perfectly melted cheese), and the sesame steak skewers (tender, juicy, and coated in a flavorful sesame glaze). The hoisin-glazed pork belly bao buns were soft, fluffy, and packed with melt-in-your-mouth pork, while the rigatoni norcina was creamy, comforting, and perfectly cooked. The grilled gem lettuce was also a fresh, flavorful way to start the meal. For drinks, the white sangria and pomegranate ginger mocktail were both refreshing and delicious. Dessert didn't disappoint either, the flourless chocolate cake (with candied pecans instead of hazelnuts) was rich without feeling too heavy, and the churros were light, crispy, and perfect with the caramel and chocolate dipping sauces.
