I have tried this twice and feel it's way overrated. Yes they give large portions but the food is bland. Not impressed at all

I basically eat here at least 3 times a week. It's a kind of food I grew up with. I've never had anything here that I didn't think was great. They make things that typically don't taste very good taste excellent. Bonnie and her staff do an excellent job. I highly recommend their omelets. However, my wife loves the pancakes and fruit. For the lunch, any one of their meat and three sides is delicious. I recommend the chicken and dressing on Fridays. read more

Two years later update- We keep eating here 2-3 days a week and it's great. Friendly staff, home cooking, and a nice place to have lunch meetings (in the back). I don't eat a lot of carbs and this place has some great options. read more

I'm glad we found this place. We used to go to the one in Mesquite before it burnt down several years ago. We started going to the Starplex Forney theater when the AMC in Mesquite switched to a dine-in theater. We like to go out and eat either before or after a movie. We were looking for a place to eat in Forney that had both good food and reasonable prices. When a friend suggest this place I was surprised they had a Forney location. It was just like we remembered it. Great home style cooking with large portions. We like to get the daily specials which includes two sides. What a surprise, this was country breakfast at its best! What can I say, start with excellent corn muffins and rolls! Fried catfish is excellent! Not greasy at all, not sure how they accomplish that but it is their best kept secret. My daughter loves the waffles! Always wonderful! This place is one of the best restaurants in the area! read more

I ordered mama's special breakfast with biscuit and gravy. The biscuits are gray are made with WATER gross i have never been anywhere in the south that uses water. only people from the north use water . Our table was very dirty we move the the condiment holder and bits of were were under there they need to clean better. Our waitress was not friendly at all. I was excited to find some place other then chili's my family would eat. It had something on the menu everyone would like. It reminded me of school cafeteria food. Everything is definitely on an assembly line in the kitchen. The chicken fried steak was preformed and frozen. My fried okra was cold, the Mac and cheese had a film on top like it had been sitting on my plate for a long time. I think that 3 side is just to much. I wish there was a 2 side option that was maybe a little cheaper. The kids had fried that were unseasoned and just mealy and gross. The peach halves were still partly frozen. The burger patty looked boiled instead of cooked in a flat top or grill. They got the grilled cheese right (which yes you can screw up, it amazing what I've seen people pass as grilled cheese). The staff was super nice and the restaurant was clean. The decor was nice and gave you a lot to look at in the 5 min you are waiting for your food. read more

Very overrated. I know we don't have many local options but even then this isn't worth it. Super slow service, small portions, looks cheap but you are nickel and dimed on things that are just included as garnishes everywhere else (ex. 1.50 for onions and cheese on the chili), servers weren't friendly in the least, and the absolute worst part of it all... the food isn't even good. Average sub-par cafeteria food, nothing tastes fresh, nothing tastes like much at all, very insipid. I ended up paying close to $30 for lunch for 2! Even went back weeks later for a second chance but it's the same, at least they are consistent. I have no idea how this place survives. read more

This is our favorite Go-to place when we are craving home cooked food, but don't want to cook at home. The food is always delicious. Their roast beef and their patty melts are my favorite dishes. My husband likes to try something different every time we go. So far nothing he's tried has been disappointing. The waitresses are always friendly, we always try to get seated in Lindsay's section, as she is the most attentive waitress we've come across. Oh and leave room for pie! read more

Small family restaurant with great home cooked meals, not expensive, and they are friendly.

On our way home to Florida, we came across this restaurant thru Yelp. IT IS AMAZING! The food was incredible, the portions were huge, and the prices were more than reasonable. Our waitress, Christina, was super friendly and we never wanted for anything while there. Our drinks were always filled and our food got to our table in less than 15 minutes after ordering. They offered us Hot, Homemade Cornbread Muffins & Rolls that were so tender and fresh they practicality melted in your mouth. This is a fantastic place to eat with the family and we will definitely eat here again the next time we are passing thru Forney Texas. read more

This was my first time at this restaurant. I had the chicken fried steak which was delicious. I ordered three sides which the portio size were smaller than I expected. Miss Pam, our waitress, made us feel so welcome and the food was better than the potluck dishes the ladies at church ever dreamed of making. Those rolls and pies made fresh daily could compete with last years winners at the county fair. I'm so full I can barely talk! It's Mamas Daughters...can't eat like this very often, but when you're in the mood, it doesn't disappoint!

I was so excited to eat at this location after visiting the Irving Blvd. location a few weeks ago since Forney is so much closer for me. However, I was so disappointed. The quality wasn't even close to the same. This is like the school cafeteria version of the Irving Blvd. restaurant. Next time, I'll make the longer trip. The mashed potatoes were clearly instant, & the macaroni & cheese tasted pre-made. The bread was good, but not worth a trip for just bread. read more

You can't go wrong here with their Home Style cooking like Mama use to make. My only complaint is that the Chicken Fried steak is SMALL, almost kid size portion which fits on a dinner plate with 3 sides.
