Meh. I gotta be honest, I was a little nervous when I saw the outdoor restrooms.... but Mama's Kitchen was basically a local version of a Waffle House. The food was decent, straightforward breakfast food. You know, eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, grits. They're definitely not reinventing the wheel here. My meal was fine. I have no complaints about the taste but I'm not going to rave about it. I've seen some Yelpers say they have the best biscuits and gravy but my mother who is a biscuits and gravy connoisseur tasted the gravy and found it was bland. It's definitely a mix- our server confirmed it. On a positive note the service was great. They were fast, friendly, and efficient. Prices were little high for a place with Waffle House quality. I've lived a couple of blocks down from Mamas Kitchen and been curious about since I moved here. My sister recommended it to me about how good they were so I thought I would finally give them a try! So my mother and I went in for breakfast. I ordered French Toast w/ bacon and eggs, and my mother ordered biscuits & gravy with a hash platter. The food was very fulfilling and cooked well-done and the staff was charismatic and overall employee sufficient. It's been about a month since mom and I had eaten here. We live close to the Dale Mabry location and in our multiple travels we often look for breakfast places to fill our gullet. We found our way in and the waitress had seated us in a booth. I decided upon Spaghetti so mother ordered that and some beans as a side would be good also. She ate her beans and I started in on my meal and noticed that they had substituted ketchup to blend in with some other tomato sauce. It was edible to me because I'm not that picky. Mom tried a few bites of the pasta and couldn't eat anymore. I cut the huge meatball in half and saw that is was a little red inside. Thankfully she hadn't eaten any more. I put a lot of salt and grated cheese on mine and finished it. She boxed hers up and we ended up throwing it away when we got home. I will be carrying my phone more often so that the reader of my reviews can see what I'm talking about. Their breakfast is great but sadly this is one item that you should avoid. read more

I gave Mamas Kitchen a second try and I did not enjoy my visit. The food is overpriced for the quality they serve you. The service was even worse this time, I ordered a waffle and two eggs. The waitress dropped off my waffle and forgot my eggs. I then asked her if she knew where my eggs were and she said, "No!" I spotted some eggs come out of the kitchen window (which happened to be mine) and she put them in the microwave!! I've never heard or seen someone put scrambled eggs in a microwave. I'm not one to complain much, so I still ate the eggs which we're bland and tasteless. The correct thing would've been to have a fresh batch of eggs made. I would've been more satisfied with my visit if that happened. I will not be back here again. read more

This is a great Diner! It is not pretending to be anything it is not nor anything more. But what it is is a dependable, well prepared, quickly served, properly managed small business restaurant that reflects its location and clientele--working people who are of the local community that need to be fed and on their way! I won't give it 5 stars because it doesn't need them. This is a place you come to because it's Tuesday and you need breakfast before work and you don't want or need a menu. And, that's the magic...the waitresses (and they've all been there forever) serve the coffee immediately and it's good and hot and they know the menu so you don't have to think. Stopped in for breakfast while my nephews were visiting. The staff was very nice and service was fast. They offer traditional breakfast options with large portions and good prices. My nephews had chocolate chip pancakes (special of the day), a Greek omelet and the 2 egg special. Everything was delicious, we even shared a pancake which was nice and fluffy. A decent small mom and pops diner with parking plenty of seating inside of the restaurant. They have different cold drinks, coffee, milk, unsweet tea. Many different kinds of food you can order off the menu. Also they do allow smoking right outside of the door just in case you want to grab a quick smoke if you are non smoker keep in mind when someone comes in and out of the door you can smell the heavy smoke from customers smoking outside. I had the white clam chowder which was delicious some what warm but manageable abled to eat it down with some crackers and sipping on some Pepsi! When my parents got there it was busy from the people coming from the AFB and other places. Only draw back becareful about using the sugar container for coffee or something else I saw a customer eating out of the sugar container and throwing a dirty napkin in the container which was really nasty and the lady waitress just took the napkin out and didn't pick up the container to take it to the back to wash it. This is my families first time here to this place we liked it since it was very close to the AFB. Keep in mind it's close to the base, Subway and some other businesses next to here. read more

A contractor highly recommended this place and decided to take him on his offer to go there for lunch. This quaint place felt like a regular diner owned by a mom and pop outfit. Apparently there are 3 locations, one in Seminole, one outside MacDill AFB and not sure of the last location. The chicken pot pie was supposedly awesome and huge for $8 as seen on the picture. It was a lasagna type dish with the crust overflowing above it. The lamb shank for $9.99 was the cheapest I have ever seen and it fell off the bone. The gravy it was smothered in united the flavors in perfect harmony. On a bed of rice and mixed vegetables, I felt like I was eating a healthy meal, but as we all know, gravy is never healthy.I caught myself picking up the bone and chewing/gnawing on all the available meat... like a savage beast, but I couldn't put it down... Oh so yummy. They didn't have sweet tea, but the lemonade/ tea combo, per the waitress's suggestion was worth it. This place is within walking distance of my house and I always see a ton of cars here every morning. I decided to check it out on a recent morning for breakfast and wasn't disappointed. It's a small mom and pop type diner and getting seated and service was quick. The food also came out at a rapid fast pace and was plentiful. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was huge. It contained eggs, bacon, and cheese all wrapped into a pressed tortilla. From the amount of customers they handled in the short time I was there, most seemed like regulars, which speaks to how good this place really is. I only do reviews when it's bad, so here goes. This place is nothing more than a greasy spoon old school diner.The waitress is extremely rude and miserable. She gave us like 1 minute to read the menu then was abrasive about it. The food came out approximately 2 minutes later. A big red flag in my mind. My sons bacon was still 80% raw and eggs for his sandwich were flash burned. My omelette was the same, cooked too fast, and not flavorful at all, except for the flavor of everything else that was on the grill. Then she asked "What's wrong with the bacon?" as he picked it all out. She agreed to take it off the bill. My hash browns were also disgusting. And the giant making toast burnt it pretty well. When I asked about paying at the table or register, rudely was told "Up there." When the Queen of rudeness tallied up the bill, I almost fainted. $35 for a breakfast sandwich, omelette,2 ojs and a coffee. What?? Needless to say, no tip was left and I am a very good payer. I give this place a minus 5 stars. Never again. If you don't want to do something anymore, then don't do it. But please stop taking it out on the rest of the world. I ended up here again after a long hiatus and a long day at Gasparilla. Mama's Kitchen is always a good choice for breakfast, they are relatively fast and their food is good. We got there early enough to miss the crowd even though the place was full and we waited about 5 mins for a table for 2. What I really love about this place, besides their food being good, is their prices. Their prices are more than fair! I ended up going for a breakfast platter which included; 2 eggs, a choice of meat (bacon, sausage, or ham), hash browns or home fries and a side of toast (white, wheat, rye). All of this for under $7, you cannot beat that! My honey ended up getting an omelette which he said he enjoyed, it also looked like a good sized portion. For my platter I got 2 eggs sunny side up, ham, and hash browns with cheese on top, my bread was wheat. Our whole meal was around $20 that includes coffee and an iced tea. The servers are very friendly and are pretty attentive despite how busy it can get in there. It seems a lot of locals frequent this location and are recognized by the employees. The decor is pretty basic. It looks like any small home time diner you would expect. The kitchen is at the front of the room and you can peek in there if you'd like. The place seems like they keep it clean. Its a small space but they have distributed the seating fairly well. For the quality and value of this place I would recommend this place in a heart beat. I have noticed they have dinner menus but I have never had dinner here so I cannot speak to this. I do know they have amazing french toast, I skipped it this time around. They serve waffles as well, but based on past experiences it seems they run out if not ordered before 11am, I don't know if this makes sense to me since I would think they could use the same batter as pancakes (all purpose flour mix)? Maybe not. Anyhow, check this place out if you are in South Tampa, it is a good breakfast spot. read more

Mamas Kitchen is just like what the name says, Mama's kitchen. The owner and employees greet you like an old friend and make you feel welcome. The menu has a wide variety to choose from, along with specials. I've eaten there twice, but haven't thought to take a pic before I devoured my delicious home cooked meal. I had the pepper steak last week, excellent. Today, I had the country fried steak and I can only assume they bring you a steak knife as a joke. Your fork falls through it. Topped with a delicious gravy and accompanied by REAL mashed potatoes and tasty green beans with bacon. And, whatever you order, get the garlic bread. The fish had peppers and onion on top, which made the tilapia have some flavor, but nothing I would order again for $9.25. I rather stick to a fried fish. My husband's eggs were a little overcooked and not fluffy and his bacon was typical, so nothing to rave about. The food tasted basic. But, the server was friendly and nice. Ok- went here with no expectations (shame on me for judging a book by its cover- I thought it was a "Mama's" that would have greasy diner food). We couldn't get over to Datz or Daily Eats because of Gasparilla. Fantastic breakfast! Eggs done perfectly- veggie omelet was superb- and delicious grits and toast (I mean- I love toast). Solid cuppa joe. Will definitely be back! And they were packed with obvious regulars who were greeted by name as they came in- what a nice place! Reasonable prices. Also- it's not "Mama's" but Mamas!
