If you want food delivered from a restaurant, which you probably do from a restaurant that delivers (crazy right?), don't waste your time with Mama's Kitchen. I've ordered from them twice and twice gotten screwed over. First time I placed an online order. Got a confirmation that it would be 30-45 minutes. More than an hour passes, so I call Mama's Kitchen and they tell me they forgot to check their online orders and would start the order now. Took another 45 to get me my food. So almost two hours waiting, and no discount, offer to cover an item, etc. Fine. No worries. The pizza and wings were at least decent, better than most places that deliver to SW. Ordered again today, this time from Seamless. Got another confirmation email (from Seamless) telling me 30-45 mins. 20-30 minutes in, I get a call from Seamless telling me they've tried calling Mama's Kitchen multiple times to confirm my order, as they hadn't yet, and nobody was answering, so they had to cancel my order and a refund will be processed in the next few days. Props to Seamless for letting me know, but seriously, what the heck Mama's Kitchen - I would've waited forever for no food. Tried calling them a bit later and still, no answer. If you live next door to it maybe it's good - I wouldn't know, they've never successfully given me the food I paid for. Lame. Update: Got a call from Mama's about two hours later. Asked if I'd ordered food, which I said I did and explained what happened. They asked if I still wanted the order - no apology or offer to comp something next time, etc. I didn't - already ate at that point. read more

I don't know about the food, but the customer service at this place SUCKS! We ordered a pizza called the Combo Pizza, and the menu indicated that it comes with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and ham. When we got it, there were onions all over it. We hate onions. We also ordered mozzarella sticks, and when we opened them they were calcified, cold, and dried up. I'm not even sure if they were cooked. We called Mama's Kitchen to report our incorrect order (completely overlooking the disgusting mozzarella cheese sticks) and they did not give a crap. They told us that despite what the menu says, the Combo Pizza comes with onions. Well then WHY DOES IT NOT SAY THAT ON THE MENU?! Here's an idea, update your menu with accurate information. They said there was nothing they could do. Uhhhh yes there is. YOU CAN FIX IT! There was no attempt to right the wrong, return our money, send us a new pizza. Nothing. Zero craps given. It was a waste of 20+ dollars. I will never order from this crappy establishment again. My mozzarella sticks were not done! The workers at the register were very rude. While in line a phone call came through and the worker acted as if she was disturbed by the call because the caller asked the different wing flavors. I think the food had the potential to be good, but it wasn't. I gave clear instructions for no tomato, mustard and mayo on the side, and they completely disregarded. I ordered the Italian and mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were soggy and so was my sandwich since the condiments weren't on the side (took an hour for delivery on a Monday night at 9pm). This was the worst pizza!!! The pizza was flavorless and had a lot of grease. I ordered 10 Spicy Buffalo wings and they were nothing to brag about. For $26 the pizza was small and the colder it got the worse it taste. I actually only ate 2 slices and throw the rest away, including the wings. I just dropped in for a slice and what a good slice and decision it was. It's a very big slice for the money. It is very very tasty. The crust is thin and cooked perfectly crunchy. The sauce is slightly sweet and I like it a lot. Now my conundrum is this. I only dropped in to get a slice because I'm supposed to eat Jamaican with a friend in about 3 hours and I was too hungry to wait. Now I'm really tempted to go back and get another slice. Their pizza and bread sticks are simply delicious. their wings aren't all that good because they lack seasoning. they have the best deal going on now, you buy one large pizza at full price(under 13 bucks) and you get the second large free(you get a free topping). I have ate here on many different ocassions and they never let me down. Go to Mama's kitchen and you wont be disappointed. their homemade sub bread is off the chain!!!!! I had to attend an off-site work event in Anacostia and gave this place a try based on the good reviews and lack of other eating options. Gotta say I am glad I did! I got the spinach sandwich and fries and ate it there. The fries were just okay but the sandwich was great! The bread was high quality and all the ingredients on it (onions, feta, spinach, tomatoes, etc.) were very fresh. The staff was super friendly and seemed appreciative of their customers. I live in Capitol Hill not very far from Anacostia and will definitely consider ordering from this place in the future as I saw that they deliver. And, if I happen to find myself in the neighborhood again I will return for sure! read more

This is a solid pizza place. I never noticed it before, but happened to be in the neighborhood and figured I would try it out. I tried the pepperoni pizza, bbq chicken pizza, buffalo wings, and crinkle cut fries. I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy everything. There was plenty of meat, sauce, and cheese on the pizzas which were delicious. As a bonus the staff if very nice and friendly and prices are more than reasonable. I can't give it 5 stars because although the wings were cooked well and the buffalo sauce was delicious, the skin could have been crispier and less fatty. They should also work on the the decor a bit and make it more appealing to passers-by, but I understand this is a new establishment and that may take time. On a whole this place is a fantastic and a needed addition to the neighborhood! read more

i have only been here previously one time and ordered the lasagna i work in the area and it is otherwise a food desert with the exception of busboys and poets the lasagna was not bad a little saucy but still good so i order from them today a few minutes ago as a matter of fact, as I'm placing my order when i'm told they are only doing delivery due to a flood now i don't have a problem with that however your going to charge a delivery fee in spite of the fact that i have no choice but to get delivery and not to mention i work across the street i have a car i can drive somewhere else and in an effort to support the community i try to buy within the area but this upcharge for delivery that you have no choice in is not a good look read more

I have ordered food from this restaurant several times, the food used to be good, now it's substandard and the customer service is awful. On 12/28/2017, I ordered lemon pepper wings, fries and a salad. The chicken was burned and too hard to eat. The fries were visibly burned. The salad was OK, but it's hard to mess up lettuce. I got sick from the food and threw up. I called and let them know what happened, they put me on hold several times, then hung up and wouldn't answer the phone. I continued to call until I got an answer. When I finally got someone on the line to tell the the food had made me sick, their response to me was "the flu is going around". I will not be getting food from this restaurant again, and will be sure and tell my neighbors and co-workers to refrain from eating there. I don't want anyone else to get sick. read more

Ive worked in the Anacostia area for 18 yrs. & there has never been a home made Pizza Restaurant/carrout in the area (that i could remember). This is the best kept secret in Anacostia. Ive only tried the PIZZA & I give it 5 STARS. The chinese carrouts on every corner has got to go.......(LOL) I've supported Mama from day 1. this is as good a pizza as i have ever had...and a slice is so big, really what most pizza places would consider 2 slices! the crust was perfect: smothered in extra cheese and pepperoni, as i ordered. a terrific value and 2 meals worth for me. as delicious and truly amazing is the spinach sandwich...it is sensational! fresh raw sweet spinach with mozzarella, onions, tomato on a really good bread. also enough for 2. mama's kitchen has moved down a few blocks on MLK drive. i found a parking space along a side street. the lovely woman behind the counter was happy, smiling...i don't know why anyone would settle for fast food chains when you can get such a great value of better quality food at a place like...mama's kitchen... read more

Mama's is great! I have ordered caterings for my church, which is nearby, and everyone loved the food. The pizza is great; try adding the oil on the crust. All of the sandwiches are pretty good; she makes her own bread! Salads are good and so is the lasagna... plus the cheese bread is great that comes with the lasagna. They have been robbed a few times, which is terrible, but have a security system now.... the area is in transition. We usually prefer homemade pizza but when that's not possible (or we don't feel like it) we go with Mama's Kitchen. Freshly made, with fresh ingredients - in a wood fired oven, not at all greasy. One of the best food options in the area. The pizza is much better than the other chain options and they have a good variety of sandwiches and bbq which I haven't tried yet because i'm hooked on the pizza but might try because they look really good and heard good things about them from customers in the shop. Love Mama's! On Capitol Hill there are no really good pizza delivery options except that the folks at Mama's are willing to cross the river, thank the food gods (and Mama) for that! Also my go-to for when I am in the neighborhood to see theatre at Theatre Alliance, the Anacostia Playhouse or going to the Anacostia Arts Center. Mama's is walkable from all of them. This is place is just shameful. I went there not long ago and ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of baked beans. Sound good right? Well it wasnt. First, I had to wait for at least 25 minutes to get my food. When my food finally came, I couldnt believe my eyes. The beans were in a plastic container usually reserved for cake or some other dessert. They were also clearly store bought beans--Campbells to be precise. I felt insulted. I think most people know what campbells beans taste like and they were disgusting. And the sandwich looked a mess. The presentation was sloppy and after a few bites I almost threw up. Never order delivery!!!! The girl that answers the phone is rude and incompetent!! I called in an order for delivery in the area less than 8 minutes up the street and the stupid girl took who completed my order took my credit card information and charged me for food they did not deliver. She called me from a cell phone number pretending to be in route, told me they called me prematurely, then said someone was downstairs with my food. They weren't even at the right address!! I don't know what the problem was but she claimed to be on her way personally. I waited for over an hour plus for my food and I didn't even get a return call from her or anyone else from that place to say that no one was coming!! To make matters worst, they already charged my credit card for an order I never received!!! I called back a few times and the girl is an idiot!! She said that she thought she called me to let me know that I lived to far and they won't deliver and if I want my food I have to come and pick it up, of course by this time the store was closed for the night. Next thing you know she put me on hold and turned the phones over to the fax machine!! I have a one year old child home asleep so I can't leave out tonight but rest assure tomorrow morning I'm going up there and I'm going the hell off!
