There used to be one in Denton, Texas. Then there was one on Beltline, then there was one in Inwood Shopping Center. All closed. This is one of my favorite pizza's. Just excellent. Mama's Pizza buffet is awesome! The quality of the pizza is great, and so is the salad bar. I agree with other Yelpers that it not in the same category as Cici's. I like the price, the food, and the local vibe. What makes me hesitate to come, is limited amount of pizzas out at one time. I feel people hovering over the pizza area, and wiping out the popular pizzas & cinnamon rolls quickly. The other day we went to Mama's Pizza for the first time, since it's in our neighborhood and we like to try something new, i.e. places we have never been before. Having just moved to the area we thought it would be great to find a family place to eat close by and my husband wanted to go. It was during the week for dinner. After entering the place I was a little concerned at first, because it looked more like a sports bar to me and having a child with us, I wasn't sure if that was the right place to go. But then I saw several children in the dining area and felt better about it. You pay at the entrance for the buffet (or specific orders) including drinks. The Pizza Buffet was small, but very nice and fresh. It was kept filled on a regular basis. While I am not a big fan of "doughy" or thicker pizza, I found it very tasty. I was pleasantly surprised that they also offered a cooked pasta with marinara sauce and cheesy bread. I then went on to the salad buffet, which I am very picky on, because most of the time these salad buffets are not very fresh and stocked with stale veggies and old salad. But this one was outstanding!!! Fresh greens, all the other fixings, incl. boiled eggs, tomatoes, pickles, onions, etc. etc. I was extremely happy about that. All together it's a great place to go and we fed the whole family for 18 bucks. read more

Hot, chewy, and delicious! I was very surprised at the quality of their pizza. My husband and I came in about 15 mins before the buffet ended for the night, but they were still friendly. They even made a pizza that I requested. It's small inside and reminds me of a dude's place because of all the sports stuff and simple furniture. It's cozy though. The only thing I'd change about the pizza would be the bottom. I like the bottom of the crust to be a little crispy, but their crust is pretty oily on the bottom. It's still very tasty. This is definitely the BEST pizza place in Plano, Tx. The crust is unbelievably good, they load the pizza up to the Max. Not just a couple pieces of meat but it is loaded. The pizza is always hot and fresh when I go or if I order take out. Not expensive and it is worth every penny. I've been to Cici's a few times and I wanted to try and see if I could find another pizza buffet. Mama's pizza had better reviews and it seems like it's been in the Dallas area for a while now. The pizza buffet price per person is a little higher than Cici's. All of the pizzas are regular crust whereas Cici's usually does thin crust pizza. Mama's pizza usually doesn't write the name of the pizza but they make the pizza to your order. The difference is that Cici's makes personal pizza to your order whereas Mama's pizza makes a large pizza that you request and have it open for everyone. In my opinion, it is kind of better because at Cici's you're forced to finish that pizza on your own. They had a salad bar and pasta bar just like Cici's as well. Another difference I found was that Cici's seems to be more ethnically diverse in the crowd that comes there to eat whereas Mama's pizza mainly had majority Caucasian descent. read more

Back in the mid 70's we used to go to what I think is the original Mama's on Rosedale in Fort Worth. Always loved their pizza! Spending three nights in Plano, we ate at Mama's two of those nights. I'm so sad. I grew up on mamas pizza. It was my favorite. My family would order the mama size (extra large) and we would share it then eat leftovers. I've literally been eating this pizza for 35 years. Sadly, I think something has changed. My last visit was mediocre at best. I brought my man there after months of bragging about the best pizza around. Mamas pizza is no longer the best. The quality has greatly decreased. The dough has lost that buttery garlic flavor. One of my favorite things was the delicious homemade ranch dressing. This time the dressing tasted off. Then I watched in horror as the manager refilled the ranch from a big bottle with a label. It's not homemade anymore. I'm hoping it was a fluke and they will return to the taste of my youth but not sure I'll bother trying again. read more

Best buffet pizza you will find likely. I am normally a thin crust guy (and Mama's is pretty thick), but the food is fresh and well prepared. They will also put in a special order for you to add to the buffet line. Salad bar is OK, cinnamon rolls are a nice way to finish a meal and the bread sticks are tasty (but with how thick their pizza dough is they are kind of redundant). Never tried the pasta. Perfect place to bring kids - they charge by age, so you're not paying a full buffet for a 3yo who eats one slice. They have a regular menu in addition to the buffet, but unless you're ordering to-go, why bother? The buffet is a steal at $6.50 a head, and the quality is the same. The set up is small; they have a modest salad bar, 4-5 pizza offerings at any given time, a small station with pasta and amazingly sinful cheesy garlic bread, and of course Mama's cinnamon rolls. Don't see the kind of pizza you were hoping for? Just ask, and they'll make it for you. Mama's pizza has a deliciously buttery, garlicky crust. It's definitely a thicker crust; if thin crust is a must for you, this won't be your thing. The sauce is, in my opinion, perfection. Slightly sweet, seriously flavorful. They use the perfect ratio of sauce to cheese, and toppings are plentiful. The toppings are the real deal; veggies are fresh, never canned, and the meats are high quality. I can't comment on the salad bar, as I have never partaken-- waste valuable tummy space on green leafy things when unlimited, delicious pizza is to be had? I don't think so! It goes without saying that you must save room for for one of Mama's big, gooey cinnamon rolls. Trust me. My experience was so much different than all of these 4 and 5 star reviews that I had to make sure I went to the right place. We arrived at the 5:30 buffet start. This place is so small and the lay out is so strange. The buffet (all 4 pizzas) were set out right next to the register and the soda fountain area where there is a constant stream of people moving around. We had to wait in line both times we returned to the pizza bar. The pizza was decent, but all thick crust and only 4 selections. The pasta was yummy, but I almost missed it because it is tucked away in the corner and people are basically standing on top of one another. $22 for three people is not bad. We might have been willing to eat there again IF it was easier to get to the food. BTW, the salad bar does have peeled whole boiled eggs - but you can see the scrapings where someone hand peeled them. Yuck! read more

While waiting you can tell families like the place for the value and feeding a few kids here won't set you back a fortune due to the buffet and salad bar. It's better than CiCi's that's for sure for about same cost. Now to our pie. It smelled great and after peeking inside we couldn't wait to get it home. It was heavy and I thought loaded with toppings however I noticed a lot of dough as well. The crust was almost pretzel consistency to me and a bit chewy but it's not bad just more dough than I traditionally like. They didn't skimp on the toppings or cheese which was nice to see. It's a good pie even though I'd prefer a bit thinner crust. They don't deliver but if you have kids or are just looking for decent pizza not from a box chain they'll treat ya right. read more

I've been a fan of Mama'e ever since i worked at one in high school. The garlic butter crust is to-die for. The buffet starts at 5:30 and you really cant get a better, quality food experience for the price ($6.99). The salad bar is always fresh and so is the pizza, bread sticks, cinn rolls and pasta.
