Mamazul is a lovely Mexican restaurant in the Flatiron area and is affiliated with La Cava Wine Bar. A friend and I stopped in during the week and grabbed seats at the bar, which turned out to be the perfect spot to relax and unwind. I ordered a refreshing cocktail made with cucumber and other fresh juices, and it was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was inviting, and we never felt rushed, which made it easy to sit, chat, and enjoy our afternoon. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a stylish and welcoming design that adds to the overall experience. While we didn't have a meal this time, the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic, and the patrons around us seemed very happy with their food. If you're in the Flatiron neighborhood looking for a great cocktail and a pleasant place to spend some time, Mamazul is definitely worth a visit. Went here on a Friday night; I had a reservation for 7 pm, but I don't know if the reservation was necessary. There seemed to be quite a few available tables. The space is really cool; great for a party. The staff was very friendly. The chips and salsa were great. I got the fajitas; the chicken was moist, but not very flavorful, so I added some salsa on top of it. The vegetables, however, were seasoned well. I might try steak fajitas next time. They do not have Coca Cola on their menu. I don't think they have any soft drinks at all, but perhaps I misunderstood the waitress. read more

I have been here for dinner (dine in), happy hour and recently ordered lunch takeout. The space is nice, two floors with outdoor seating. The service when I was there was friendly and attentive. For dine in I had the steak fajitas which were tasty, albeit a little expensive ($39). For the lunch takeout we ordered the birria tacos, carne asada tacos and pork tacos (3 per order) and shared among 3 people so each person got to try one taco. They were delivered in taco boxes with 3 slots for holding the tacos and were in good condition when they arrived. The tacos were tasty, my favorite was the birria (though I thought it would be better with a little more meat and a little less cheese), followed by the pork then the carne asada. The pork could have benefited from a little more flavor and the carne asada was a little dry. My only complaint is the tacos are quite small and 3 was not enough for me. They are not cheap either, the birria tacos were $29, carne asada were $28 and the pork were $18. Way too pricey for the portion size in my opinion. I would recommend going here for the happy hour specials or for dinner as the lunch prices are pretty steep. The food is pretty solid and I would dine here again. read more

Mamazul fixed me right up on a recent Friday afternoon happy hour. After admiring their outdoor seating, we settled in at their spacious bar (perfect for sidewalk watching) for a couple of the most delicious, fresh margs near midtown and a bubbling plate of nachos, casera-style, that really hit home. Paired with the salsitas, it was sensational. To top everything off, our friend at the bar even treated us to a couple tequila shots on the house on the way out. Every time I come the prices seem to be higher. $40 for fajitas that came with 4 tortillas, peppers onions and shrimp. That's it. No rice or beans. Just veggies and shrimp. The manager lady stayed on top of her team and jumped in whenever needed. Try the chips and guac, they definitely make their own chips. I was also a really big fan of their fries. I would actually give 3.5stars. We went there for brunch while our NYC trip. Interesting desisions in interior design, very polite waiters. Around 11am we were second table of customers, so our order came fairly quick. But place filled in pretty fast. We had some margaritas, followed by their signature omelette and classic eggs Benedict. My eggs Benedict were overcooked, so they apologized and changed the dish. Service was quick, food was fine. My friends and I had a brunch reservation here before the Mexican parade in Manhattan this past weekend and I absolutely loved this spot! The inside is decorated so beautifully, with colorful mosaics, and art pieces that give a nod to rich Mexican culture. We were seated and served quickly, ordering guacamole to start and cocktails for the table. I had a Besame Mucho, which I found a little bitter, my friend had a Mangazo, which was super sweet and viscous like a mango, and my other friend had a Passion Fritz. Later, I had an El Mexicano, which was delicious! The guacamole was good, and I appreciated the seasoned chips, as well as fried plantain chips that were inside the dip for us. I had the fish cerviche, which was so fresh tasting and had good sized pieces of fish inside, served in a cute glass. My friend had the steak and eggs, and we all agreed the flavor of the steak was wonderful. The real star in my opinion was my other friends order: Chilaquiles with carnitas added on. Wow. It was so refreshing. The ingredients came together perfectly. I really appreciate cocktails that barely taste like alcohol but still get the job done! I ended up ordering a second one, it was that good! For my entree I ordered the tiger shrimp quesadillas ($28). The tiger shrimp was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I would've appreciated more cheese and toppings in the quesadillas, I only tasted shrimp and the tortilla. -Customer service was okay. We arrived right before happy hour ended and our waitress was kind enough to let us still take advantage and even order a second round a few minutes after happy hour ended. We started with the guac which was very flavorful. For my main, I ordered shrimp, fish, and chicken tacos which were all very tasty. I don't like corn tortillas and they were able to give me flour which made it even better. I didn't think I'd be full afterwards but it was actually the perfect amount of food. We were able to sit outside and still got excellent service. Cute Mexican grill with a nice ambiance, decor, and delicious food. We went for date night on a Wednesday evening around 8pm and were promptly seated. We ordered the small guacamole app and the fiesta platter, an assembly of different tacos. The guac and chips came out fast and the chips were hot, crispy, and sprinkled with some tajin. The guac was very fresh and delicious. It was a great combo and the small size is enough for two. The fiesta platter was good as well, it included two each of fish, shrimp, chicken, and pork tacos. You can tell it was freshly made. It was enough for a light dinner for two, we each had 4 tacos. Also came with a yummy dipping sauce set, green and red. Green sauce was cilantro based, red was cumin based. Also came with some juicy limes. There was so much flavor and texture in those tacos! Service was friendly and prompt. Waters were filled when our waiter noticed our glasses were empty. I loved the cutlery and cloth napkins, a touch of class. Only bad thing is bathroom was out of toilet paper. Mamazul is a nice Mexican restaurant in the Flatiron section. It is nicely decorated, I like how they have different types of sitting areas (booths, long tables, bar). Our drinks were the classic and strawberry Margaritas. Both were amazing, STRONG, and recommended. FYI....if you're dining during happy hour (Monday - Friday, 2PM - 6PM), even if you're seated at a table or booth, you'll receive happy hour drink prices. We started with the guacamole appetizer (mashed avocados, lime, scallions, serrano pepper, cilantro) and it was very good. We enjoyed the warm tortilla chips and the stone pot. The seasoning was so good and the entire appetizer was creamy and smooth. Order it. Our entrees were: Carne Asada Burrito (marinated skirt steak, black beans, onions, avocado, pico de gallo, chihuahua cheese). The taste of this burrito was very good, but for the price, I thought it would have been a lot larger or contained a lot more steak. The other entree was Tostaditas De Ahi Tuna (crispy corn tortilla, avocado, soy-tamarind chipotle crema). The thinly sliced tuna was enjoyable and flavorful.. The dessert was OUTSTANDING! We shared the Strawberry Cheesecake (unbaked raspberry-pirickle, cheesecake mousse, passionfruit coulis). I enjoyed every forkful of this dessert. The crumbly base, mixed with the strawberry mousse, just made this a memorable last course and is highly recommended. Even their Cappuccino cups are cool, as you'll see. read more

We got huevos rancheros and banana pancakes. Based on the food and ambiance I would have given it four stars. -1 star for service. Both the hostess and server looked a bit annoyed. The server proceeded to tell me that there is no such thing as an iced latte. Latte is only ever hot. One of the best Mexican restaurants I've eaten at in a while. They had a special price if you chose two items from the menu they selected. I ordered guacamole and chips and the shrimp fajita. The presentation of the guac was beautiful, it tasted so fresh and the chips were warm! The shrimp fajita came out sizzling hot and cooked to perfection!
