Advertised lunch menu that wasn't honored
    Shelly S.

I have had this establishment in my yelp NYC collection as a restaurant to try since Covid--it's been a long time. And what's funny is that I live right around the corner from it and pass it all the time, but have never really felt rushed to get here. It just so happens that today I had a day off and time to lollygag around my neighborhood. I had a light breakfast and decided to come here for lunch. I will say that my server, Antonio, was warm and fun to engage with--he offered A+ service. Upon ordering, I noticed that the menus differed from what was given to me vs. what I saw online, which honestly encouraged me to come in. I asked Antonio to consult with management to honor the pricing on the lunch menu that's advertised online, however management refused and said that it's an old menu. I was offered a cocktail, which I declined because I don't drink. I am not accustomed to an establishment not honoring what they advertise to a consumer/patron. So that was a turn off, but because this place was on my list, and along with the lunch menu that brought me in, I decided to stay. When I walked in, I shared with the server that my back was hurting me, and asked for a seat that was lower to the ground; most of the seating up front are barstools. I was told that the barstools were all that was available at this time. I accepted that as such because that's what was told to me and until I went to the bathroom and saw a ton of dining area seats. I even saw a table with three people were sitting and dining. It's quite possible that the person who greeted me did not hear me, but I don't think it's likely, and so it feels a bit ableist that I asked for an accommodation because of acute body pain and was told that there was nothing available to accommodate that. I decided to wait until happy hour (4 PM) to order pulled pork sliders, and truffle fries. It was tasty. The fries were a little too salty though, but I enjoyed my meal, and its portion wasn't not too much or too little. I do not think I will be back & It's not based on the food. It's more so based on the treatment, and I think that they can do better. Signed, Your Hudson Yards neighbor

Death Avenue? More like Death to My Wallet--great food, but my bank account needed CPR afterward! Death Avenue has a great vibe, and the food and drinks definitely deliver on quality and taste. The menu offers a nice variety, and everything we ordered was well-prepared and flavorful. The cocktails, in particular, were a highlight--unique and expertly crafted. That said, the prices were surprisingly steep for what you get. While the experience was enjoyable overall, it's hard to ignore the cost when compared to similar spots in the area. If you're looking to splurge a bit, it's worth checking out, but keep the price tag in mind when planning your visit.

Came here for dinner after seeing the Vessel. The food was tasty, but the prices were higher than I would be willing to pay for what we had. My favorite of the three dishes we had was the souvlaki. The place itself has a very dark ambiance. We sat at a high top table and the stools were a bit wobbly. The service was great, except they ran the wrong bill but quickly fixed it.

I stopped by Death Ave for some drinks with a friend. It was a really nice day out, so we were able to sit in the back/courtyard area, which wasn't actually fully set up yet, but was a cool area nevertheless. The staff was really accommodating, making sure to check on us in the outdoor area. Not going to lie, I'd prefer to go to a happy hour spot, since paying upwards of $20 for a drink feels like quite the ripoff, but I still had an enjoyable time. I didn't get the chance to try any food, but the drinks drinks were pretty standard. I'd recommend coming by when the courtyard area is in full swing!

I stopped off here as a matter of convenience--it was right down the street from the McKittrick Hotel, where I was going for another stab at the soon-to-close "Sleep No More." This restaurant is mostly Greek, maybe Greek fusion. They have a whole section of smash burgers (feta zest, Swiss mushroom, American bacon, cheddar pepper), as well as sandwiches like baby back rib-wich and fried chicken. They also have lamb chops, skirt steak skewers, moussaka, pasta Santorini, and a section of "ocean bites," or halibut skewers, eight-hour octopus, calamari, and coconut shrimp. I chose the Hellenic BBQ from the entree section. This dish is pricier, 52 dollars, and is served with either steak, lamb chops, halibut, or jumbo shrimp. It is accompanied by grilled zucchini and cauliflower and Greek fries. I chose the steak, medium. While a little fatty, the flavors were AWESOME! I don't know what kind of seasoning they used, but it was delicious and unusual. The cauliflower and zucchini were grilled perfectly. And while I am not a shoestring fry fan, these were seasoned well and were REAL Greek fries. They were more than just fries with feta thrown on top. The food: excellent. The drinks weren't the best I've ever had. The basil gimlet was a little sweet. The mastiha mint was essentially a mojito, but not bad. The Prosecco crush was pretty good. I am not regretful I had these drinks, but come here for the food and atmosphere, save the drinks as an afterthought. Service was impeccable. I was sat in a quiet, sexy little space with faded wood and pretty blue curtains. I had a view of the outside courtyard, in which others were enjoying their drinks and conversation. My server was soft-spoken, attentive, and lovely. I wish I knew his name, but it's not on my receipt. He was working on 4/15/24 and I was cashed out at 6:23 PM. He also provided me with a complimentary desert, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and some type of small chocolate cake, almost like a fig cake. It was a much appreciated gesture, above and beyond! I don't go to mid-town/Chelsea often, but if I ever find myself back in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to come here. Great mood, great service, a vibe, a mood.

I wasn't expecting this bar to have the caliber of cocktails that they do. I understood this place to be a brewery and was surprised to see many beers from other locations. I assumed they were have more brews of their own highlighted. Regardless, the cocktails were fantastic. Well made with a lot of intentionality. A great choice on a hot day to relax and get a break from the rain and heat outside. The drinks were delicious and worth the stop if you're in the area.

Came in for a drink and was totally"wowed" by this place. Gorge interiors, awesome service and beautifully decorated. HH M-F so we will be back!

This Greek influenced bar is easily a place you will be back for more! The house made pita chips were light and not hard like most pita chips are made. Soft enough to scoop from their house-made appetizers and not leave you with a chipped tooth haha. I was not thrilled with their Fried Pickle Chips. I think they tried too hard here. The batter was thick yet tasty. It held the pickle chip and its flavor well, but the chip was a thicker cut. This is no good. A thicker chip will hold the pickle juices and it will not fry well and get crispy. Therefore, when you take a bite, the hot juices will burn your mouth. The highlight for me was their Lamb Chops... sooooo good!!! Mouth watering, cut just right, meaty, flavorful, juicy. I am craving some right now. They were so good that I didn't even feel the need to dip them into the chimichuri sauce it came with.

I stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night around 9pm and it wasn't too busy to be able to get a table for 2. We got one of these cute private booths in the corner and it was adorable. Our food and drinks were really good. The Zucchini Shrimp Fresca was so light and refreshing with just the right amount of flavor in the sauce. Highly recommend for a date night!

Came here for drinks and dinner with coworkers on a Thursday and we had no trouble making a reservation. The place is a bit dark and the layout a little odd but a nice place where you can have conversations and actually hear each other. They have happy hour drinks and food until 6:30. We ordered the Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, pork sliders and truffle fries from the happy hour menu. I would recommend all of them except the truffle fries since they weren't anything special and a bit soggy. For entrees we ordered the souvlaki chicken tacos, cod tacos and steak tacos. There's 3 per order and they're pretty filling. I personally liked the chicken tacos the best because the chicken was tender, well seasoned and there was a large portion of them. Overall, we had a good experience here! Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. We stayed almost 3 hours and were appreciative of not being rushed.

I had been here two years before for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed myself, so when I was invited for happy hour I was more than excited. Food / Drink (5/5) - good selection of wines and spirits, have not really tried their cocktails. Even the bar food was fairly well curated - we had a set of beef and chicken tacos. The chicken was really well marinated and the pear puree topping on top of the steak tacos was unusual and refreshing. Other than that, the calamari and coconut breaded shrimp were all very well done, plus the different sauces!! So great - there was a pesto-like one, a barbecue one that was a little more tangy, and one final one that was reminiscent of gochujang. Brunch, back when i came here, was also a similar selection of interestingly plated and designed dishes. Expect to discover something new / unexpected here! Ambiance (7/5) - we managed to get space at the back patio, which was a nice sanctuary rimmed with fairy lights, wood bar tables and seating. If you looked up, you saw the winking skyscrapers and the high line. It was a very beautiful place for an evening. Service (4/5) - taking a point off because service was slower than I remembered at the happy hour, but the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and I didn't remember this being a problem last time I was here. Could've easily been due to an off day. Pricing (4/5) - Definitely on the higher side here but would say that this is fair for the experience and quality. All in all, I had a great experience here. Definitely a good place to bring people for drinks, and also a great first date spot!

Love the vibes at Death Ave, it felt almost medieval! The food was also so yummy. I recommend the mezze platter and eggplant tacos. But most of all, I recommend the sangria- it was delicious! It's not the biggest restaurant so I recommend coming with a small group (4 or less) for a nice dinner. The outdoor area looked very nice as well.

Good drinks with a unique spin on Greek food. FOOD: I got the steak souvlaki minis (aka. Greek tacos), came with fries. Food was decent, although a bit messy. Taste-wise was decent, nothing too amazing but a tad pricey for what you get. DRINKS: Had the Fig Julep and Death Ave Tea. Fig Julep was absolutely delicious--highlight of the night for me. Think an old fashioned but with a hint of sweet fig. The Death Ave Tea was refreshing, but a bit light; very easy to drink. VIBE: Came in on a Sunday night, place was quite empty but I enjoyed the vibe overall. Staff was friendly and service was great. SCORE: 3/5 - Enjoyed the food and loved the drinks, would come back if I were in the area.

It featured a crispy, sugar-glazed exterior and a soft, chewy interior, topped with truffle cheese and served with a truffle butter dip; the pairing was superb, and it tasted great both on its own and with the dip. For the main course, I ordered the miso-glazed black cod. The flavor was flawless, and while the portion was small (which was acceptable), the pool of broth accompanying it was completely unnecessary; it was inedibly salty, so what was the point of serving it? After finishing the fish, I was left with a plate full of broth, rendering the plate unusable. Plus, it was overpriced; for this dish, you're better off going to Strip House Strip House remains the undisputed king of this dish in New York. A friend ordered the chicken parmesan. If you have a palate that prefers 100% Chinese food, proceed with caution on this dish. Friends ordered sides of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. These are dishes originally meant for low-income Americans to fill up on cheaply; there's no limit to how good they can be, but also no floor to how bad they can get. Both were on par with the average quality found in upscale restaurants. Honestly, these are two dishes I would never order myself. To sum up: the atmosphere was great. It's also hard to get a reservation; the place was packed when we had lunch at 2 PM. We were already inside MOMA and entered via the inside entrance with a guard and a huge door. Since we arrived at 5pm when they opened we were led to a seated waiting area and provided cold water (a 100F day) and a smaller drink menu. Within a few minutes the main dining room was ready for us and we were led to a three quarter moon seat with a table facing the MOMA outdoor sculpture garden. This room was glorious with its high ceiling and cobalt blue paint and an impressive massive floral arrangements. There were plenty of museum visitors still outside wandering about in the sculpture garden. Each and every staff were wonderful in their friendly welcoming stance and conversations. Having perused their voluminous wine selection online ahead of time (an excellent thing to do ahead of time to avoid last minute decisions) we placed our wine order with the sommelier. Then there was the choice between the two menus, one obviously more expansive in offerings and the price. Since NYC was experiencing our extreme heatwave we opted for the smaller menu, which was totally sufficient and very filling. Most of the time, restaurant tasting menus have words and phrases that "sound" so inviting but wind up being a huge disappointment. However, words here really don't do justice as a description. The menu seemed simple and basic enough: "radish, shiso* crispy ham and cheese; hiramasa and garden peas; sea bass, crab and squash blossom; halibut, tomatoes, sweet corn broth or chicken and red wine braised celeriac; berries and cacao -- Impressions Menu -- 'a glimpse, capturing a moment' $175 (discovery 115 * reserve 295)". Prior to ordering we were informed that both of us had to order the same menu but that we had the option to sub and add on from the expansive menu--which we did with the eggs on eggs on eggs dish, as well as my choice of the lamb. Their signature dish--Eggs on eggs on eggs: a must have to add on this special course with caviar ($50/order). The dish is small, precious and very rich and was positively impressionable. That's the dish I go away with thinking about the restaurant. It came with a stick of toasted brioche to sop up the runny yolk and the caviar (which was neither fishy or salty). I would note the dish was served with caviar spoon. Staff knew enough that after we started eating this they brought an extra set of two more buttered toast sticks. Paired with our all Pinot champagne it was a magical combo. This is the kind of patron mind reading that differentiated a Michelin star restaurant. As the executive chef described the dish: "At the bottom of the bowl is a fried egg sauce, and is broken with a dill oil; second egg is a poached egg yolk (poached in a saline solution just so they are warmed through...we want the yolk to spill through the sauce...). We finish this dish with pickled shallots and more fresh dill for acidity and freshness, and drop a huge spoonful of caviar on top." The amuse was a great way to start especially with the pairing of our champagne. In lieu of the halibut in the Impressions menu I added the lamb from the other menu. Although it was only one piece in the rack of lamb it was terrific with the crunchy maitake mushroom and tasty sauce. The sommelier was excellent and professional without being pretentious -- as well as every single staff that greeted us and served us along the way. THIS Is what one should expect from a two star Michelin restaurant. I tasted the halibut from my wife and it seemed to be slightly under seasoned, though it had a decent sear. Service was perfection. They did not disappoint and I will be back!

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I was lead to this great spot for a late dinner and cocktails on a Friday night. The hostess was really friendly and quicky sat us at a two seater near the bar, which we appreciated. The ambiance was light and friendly and they even had a DJ playing all the good jams! I think I danced a bit, (definitely liquid courage). The DJ read the room and created a fun ambiance. The waitress came over a few minutes later and quickly took our drink and meal order. We ordered the Tuna Crispy Rice ( Yum), Guinness Wager Sliders (Nom Nom), Korean Chicken Boas (My Favorite!) and Carnitas Tacos.....I'm embarrassed to admit that we cleaned our plates like a couple of savages. Bartley Dunnes is a great choice to come solo, meet up with friends or come as a group of no more than 4, unless you make a reservation. They have a second floor that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to check out, so I can't write about that. However, I did see people coming and going straight up. I'll be back!

They have a great happy hour running from open until 8 PM, including $6 beers and $8 cocktails, which is a great deal for the area. ordered the Bartleys Spritz (Aperol Spritz) and a Tequila Mule. We sat at the bar, which runs about half the length of the space, and there were also plenty of tables throughout. The back section of the bar feels a bit separated from the main entrance area. There are some TVs throughout, and everything inside seemed fairly new and well maintained. It was not very crowded on a Tuesday early evening, so service was quick and the staff was very friendly. We did not order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour drinks in the MoMA/Midtown West area.
