Unfortunately, this was not a great experience. The food was overcooked and lacked the quality I would expect from an Italian restaurant. The biggest issue, however, was the music. Live music should enhance the dining experience, not make it difficult to enjoy your meal and company. We didn't hear it at all. Been craving authentic Italian food since returning from Italy. I remember I tried this restaurant years ago and really liked it. Decided to return. Plenty of parking. They must have remodeled since I was last there. I preferred the previous look, which was inviting like the restaurants in Italy. Now it looks too dark with the black walls. Service was great. Our waiter was attentive. Soup of the day was Minestrone, which was seasoned well. The calamari was cooked perfectly; soft and not tough. Lightly breaded and seasoned. Risotto was not risotto- it was dry rice. Service and ambiance was nice, but either teach the chefs how to cook risotto or take it off the menu. It was not creamy, rich, no cheese, and dry. The waitress was very chatty and highly recommended the osso booco. She failed to tell us the price and we were shocked when the bill came and it was $50!!! I also wanted to say that the "wonderful, once every couple of months, osso booco was very SALTY! My friend also had the dish and he said his was very salty too. Despite having a reservation for six, we waited nearly 45 minutes to be seated, which was a disappointing start to the evening. Once seated, we were greeted and given menus promptly, but there was then another 15-minute delay before our drink order was taken. Our server was kind and courteous, though clearly overwhelmed, which affected the overall flow of service. The evening would have benefited from a more visible and engaging management presence to help support both staff and guest experience. The food, overall, was quite good. We ordered four appetizers--most were enjoyable, however the calamari was underwhelming. It lacked seasoning and flavor, tasting more flour-forward than expected. On the other hand, the Italian sausage and peppers were excellent and definitely a standout. It's too bad a waiter can drag overall ratings down. Mambo's food was 4 star but the initial service just sucked. We attended the restaurant on Monday, June 22nd. Not crowded at all. We had the misfortune of being assigned Roy as our waiter (certainly not a service person). He was rude and indifferent. When he saw we were at a table he tended,he yelled from the kitchen door " do you want anything to drink", we weren't sure he had directed that to us. We shared our preferences with him and he eventually brought our drinks. with menus. He dropped the list of specials on our table without as much as " these are our specials", no explanation of those specials or what was on the menu. My date had questions about a few menu items but Roy was nowhere to be found. I finally got his attention and he came to our table. I asked him about the offering my date was interested in. He looked at us as tho we were idiots, gave a brief description of what she was iinterested in, no more. She said she was afraid of asking Roy any further questions. My choice was Mambo's ribs, An easy choice for Roy, no description required. We were learning more of the menu offerings from the very professional server (Rylan) tending to the table next to us, as she described things to that table. For some odd reason she became our server for which we were grateful. She was attentive and REALLY helpful. From that point our Mambo experience wes good. Wow. We went here for my mom's birthday, hoping to find a good Italian restaurant as the last few places have been a bit disappointing. This place delivered !!!! From start to finish this was the best dining experience we've had in a longggg time. They started us off with a complimentary fresh loaf of bread right out of the oven. We then ordered a charcuterie board to start with, which was filled with a great selection of cheeses and meats. Our entree dinners were delicious and so big for the price!! We capped it with a rich, silky piece of chocolate cake and espresso martini. And for the espresso martini lovers -- this is one of the best I've had in the Chicagoland area, as they use fresh espresso not liqueur! Not pictured a limoncello and lemon drop martini, which got my mom's stamp of approval--not an easy feat! But let it be known, the best part of the whole dining experience was our server, Julio! He was attentive, communicative, friendly, and knowledgeable. He paid attention to all the small details and made us feel VIP with his care for his craft. Carry out is always a gamble. We got lasagna and chicken piccata, both not great. The chicken was cooked for days. Dry doesn't begin to describe it. Lasagna was quite boring. Sides of spaghetti with meat sauce and linguine with tomato sauce both definite no's. The linguini should have been garlic/oil with the chicken, not tomato based. 3 Stars for food and 1 star for service/ hostess. Stopped by for my birthday dinner on a Sunday night. Restaurant was only half full. Upon entering the restaurant, the host was not very welcoming. No smiles. Asked how many was in our party and had someone seat us. We were seated at a table without a lighted candle and no drink menu. Other tables that were occupied had that. 10 mins passed and our waitress finally showed up. Let me remind you that the restaurant was 50% full at best at 7PM on a Sunday. Our waitress was slow. Had to wait awhile to get a refill too. We ordered Stuffed Gnocchi that was their special of the night and Zuppa di Pesce. For our soup, we picked Minestrone and Lobster Bisque. Both bread and soups were served hot. 5 stars for that. The stuffed gnocchi was over cooked. Super mushy. And the portion size was small and pricey. I wouldn't recommend anyone getting this. My boyfriend wasn't pleased with his meal. If you're a seafood lover, I would recommend Zuppa di Pesce. The seafood that night was fresh. Pasta was cooked perfectly and with lots of flavor. I enjoyed my entree. One major improvement this restaurant needs to work on is training their staff and especially the hostess. We did not feel welcomed at this restaurant. There was no warm greeting upon arrival and definitely not a "have a nice night" "thank you" or even a bye! We finished our dinner within an hour. As we were walking out past the host area, the two young girls were just standing there, looking at the TV at the bar and chit chatting amongst themselves. There was no acknowledgment from them that their customer is leaving. No basic etiquette at all. No "bye" , no "thank you." It was very off putting really. Especially if I'm spending money at a "nice" restaurant. We've been greeted better at fast food restaurants! Lol My boyfriend hardly ever complains when we are our dining. He's the most chill guy ever lol And if he made the effort to mention how bad their hostess was, that really tells you something! Lol A great host or hostess can set the tone for a wonderful dining experience. Unfortunately, Mambo Italiano failed to do so on a special night for us. We will not be coming back. A very nice experience - not the most impressive strip mall location but always very busy and always good. Most recent experience was above average but not truly exceptional The waiter was very attentive and helpful. All of our dishes were good. The bruschetta appetizer was excellent. The butternut squash ravioli special was ok - too much oil on top - in my opinion, not up to their usual standards. Sea Bass was exceptional as was the pasta dish that we had. This was the first and last time that I will ever go there. From the moment my partner and I walked in the door we were treated different. When we sat down it was worse. Our server was rude, slammed things on our table, didn't offer any specials, ( she did with other tables) had an attitude towards us and treated all of her other tables very nicely with respect. It is either one of two things it was because we are a gay couple or a gay interracial couple. But, all her other tables were white and they were treated with way more respect and dignity. My wife and I have a standing date night, it's Wednesday, and we treat date night with the seriousness of a standing holiday. I go ALL OUT. I *fully intend* to impress. Let me tell you how Mambo Italiano supports my vision for dramatically courting my wife. First, 3 course meal. Do you want soup? Salad? Bread served with dinner? They'll have it all. It's all excellent. Do you like drinks? I just moved back from Wisconsin, so I have maybe an unhealthy affinity for the bebidas. Mambo Italiano has a FABULOUS cocktail menu. More martinis than you can shake a stick at. Personally, I like the fruity ones, but you know what, you do you, boo! They also have several excellent beers that I could otherwise only find in Italy. Of course, the entrees are what we are here for. The entrees are outstanding at Mambo Italiano. I typically prefer vegetarian options, and we've been back multiple times, but the Eggplant Parmesan stands out to me. My wife has run the gamut, typically chicken, and if memory serves, the pasta in vodka sauce really wowwed her. And, what's dinner without a bit of dessert? Treat your beloved. Get them dessert. My 1 star would be a zero if I could! This is because of Jeff the manager. We had 6:00 reservations and saw they were busy. We are regular loyal customers. At 6:30 we asked how much longer very nicely. We were told there were 2 reservations ahead of us. After 6 parties were seated and it's now 6:45 we asked again. The hostess said It's up to Jeff in who's seated. He overheard our conversation and screamed at us very nastily that he's seating this other party then us. It is now 50 minutes after our reservation time and we have been very nice about it. At no time was there I'm sorry about the wait nothing!!!! There are a lot of other restaurants that would welcome our loyalty and money! The food was great and the server wonderful but our meal was Definetly ruined! This restaurant was excellent from start to finish as it very nicely decorated with embellishment on the chairs and gorgeous chandeliers. The small bar area was very nice too. The waitstaff was very attentive and the fried ravioli that came in 3 larger ones was excellent (also based on other yelp reviews). The Rotolo rolled with eggplant, spinach and ricotta was creamy, fresh and delicious and ample for two people. However I asked for meat sauce and I received marinara instead but it was still very good. The pomegranate martini was excellent too. My forewarning is the staff does not wear COVID masks which I've seen at least on another review. This is a great date place. I give this place 4.5. I will definitely be back! read more

My first visit to Mambo Italian was for a celebratory dinner a few years ago, and I was excited to return last week for a nice lunch out with coworkers. My lunch experience was much like my dinner there -- we started with bread, olive oil and Parmesan before ordering lunch. There was no lunch menu, so we ordered from the dinner menu and it was a LOT of food! I had the tilapia entree, which came with a choice of soup or salad as well as a choice of potatoes or pasta. I opted for the salad and pasta. My fish also arrived with a large side of green beans -- yum! Everything was delicious, the service was great and pretty fast, too -- our entire visit lasted around an hour. I definitely give Mambo two thumbs up for both lunch and dinner. I'll definitely return, and maybe try dessert, though it's unlikely I'll ever have room for dessert after one of these large meals! read more

It's been on the radar for quite some time and we've always seen the parking lot pretty full. I made reservations just in case and glad I did because Friday was busy. The entry was pretty congested with people waiting to be seated, delivery pickups, takeout, and bar overflow. We were seated pretty quickly and our server was amazing. She was attentive and energetic even while covering a lot of tables. We started with Pasta Fritta and I've never seen them fried this way. They were crispy on the edges but were really good. We also ordered the lobster bisque soup. Sadly I didn't have any lobster pieces in mine. For the entrees, we ordered the Veal Saltimbocca and Lobster & Crab Cappellacci. The veal was ok and the prosciutto was how I liked it being a little toasted. The veal sat in a lemon butter sauce but it was a little watered down. The Cappellacci was great. For dessert we ordered the Peach Ripieno and the Profiterol. I grew up eating Ripienos and knew they were chilled but only enough to keep the fruit as a cold vessel for the sorbet. This was solid and it was difficult to eat the peach itself. The Profiterols are highly recommended and brought back memories from my grandmother's cooking. When I pulled up to the restaurant the parking lot was very full, luckily I was able to snag a spot from someone just leaving. They do offer valet which is nice if you want to go that route. My friends and I were sat right away since we had a reservation which I was thankful for since it was so busy. Despite how busy it was, we received excellent service throughout our meal. The decor and ambience is very upscale, I loved the chandeliers. The bread served when we were seated was warm, and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, yum! It's served with both butter or olive oil and Parmesan. For my meal I ordered a half of the house salad and the arancini appetizer. The house salad was a nice starter and very fresh. I honestly was pretty disappointed with the arancini, which was more of a meatball with some rice and other ingredients. I was looking forward to trying their version but much more prefer those that are more the traditional rice ball. I also would have liked it more if it had been served with a bit more marinara. Both my friends really enjoyed their fish dishes. Despite not being overwhelmingly happy with my food, everything else was great and I'd come back to try a few more things. read more

I went there with a large group of ladies (about 20) from our community for lunch. I forget the servers name but we only had one and he was excellent in making sure orders were accurate and everything, especially with accommodating our request for separate checks. The fresh bread and olive oil was tasty. I had the Gamberi Scampi pasta with olive oil and it was very flavorful and the portion sizes were plenty that I had enough for another meal the next day.
