After waiting 45 minutes for a table (it IS Friday night), our server Jennifer was very good. The bruschetta was a little disappointing. I had fettuccine - pretty tasty, but a little salty. My wife had baked bolognese. It would have been goid, but WAY too much salt. We couldn't eat it, but it was comped for us. One of the saltiest dishes we've ever tried to eat. This is the 2x I'm Totally disappointed. This was my favorite place to eat when we come into Whitefish and I've been coming here for the past 4 years. Tonight the calamari was so rubbery we had to send it back. House Salad tasted like straight balsamic (way to vinegary. First, let me say that we do not mind waiting 45 minutes to get a table at a restaurant that is supposed to be knock your socks off good. So we did. We were finally seated, and once we placed our orders waited a full half hour for the food. The bruschetta was not toasted and disappointing. It was bread with ricotta cheese, diced tomatoes and chopped basil. Maybe they forgot to put it in the oven? The entree finally came, I ordered the baked bolognese. It was so incredibly salty I was unable to eat it. My husband tried it and he couldn't eat it either. The waitress was kind enough to remove it from the tab, but I was really hungry, and disappointed in the food. I originally reserved the private room it was for a bday party so i wanted to decorate. And i stated that in my memo on the reservation. I then called twice to make sure everything was set. I got confirmation that is was. We showed up she gave attitude right away. Asking who i talked to told her multiple times i didnt know and that i called before hand. OK, SO the wait was an hour and a half...probably needed some wisdom in the "sitting and accommodating" saw groups of people arriving after us but getting seated first? But, we had a great attitude. Very long wait if you get there after 6:00. Decided to try the next night getting there at 5:00 when they opened. No problem. Their signature garlic bread was loaded with raw garlic - ok if you like that sort of thing. Too much of a bite for me. I'm an Italian from NY and it was overkill. The Choppino was very good the seafood was cooked to perfection broth was very light. On the other hand the "light" cream sauce my husband had on his pasta was not. Pretty disappointed top to bottom with my time here. I'm allergic to just about everything, so I have to be fairly particular with where I eat since most places don't have anything I can eat without getting sick. The gluten free possible is noted here, which was nice. I even asked, half jokingly if they had any gluten free bread too since the appetizers were all non starters for me since I'm dairy allergic as well, and the server to her credit volunteered to bring me an apple. I thought that was a nice thing until she said the kitchen told her that she couldn't bring me an apple because that was more expensive than bread. I'd have paid $1-$2 for the apple but the fact that you told her to tell me that was prickish and unfair to her, and pissed me off. When I ordered my entree I (thought I) asked for just plain steak no sauce (since most sauces make me sick) with some gluten free pasta and red sauce but it came fully marsala'ed. Maybe I didn't ask that way, but the steak was rare and tough anyhow, and since I can't stand Marsala it was tough to choke down about half of it, but I was starving so I ate what I could till I got to the really rare part and threw in the towel. I wanted to like the place as most people said to go here but we should've just went elsewhere. Your mileage may vary especially if you don't have allergies but I just thought that for approaching Shula's/Ruth's Chris steak prices the meat should've been a little less chewy. I like Ciao Mambo but I didn't love it, mainly because I am a weirdo with a ton of allergies and can only eat certain things. I didn't realize how small the restaurant was either, but thankfully they had room on top of the roof in the patio area on a Saturday night when we were planning on going without a reservation. We got lucky because we were able to get seated pretty quickly not that long after 5-5:30ish. When we were leaving the restaurant it looked like a lot of people were waiting though-so I'm assuming this place gets PACKED on the weekends and just in general is a hot spot. I got a salad and loved it with a glass of wine. I couldn't get pizza because there was no gluten free pizza so that kind of bummed me out but it kept my options healthier so I don't really mind all that much. We walked by on Sunday night and the place was packed with a line out the door. The wait was 45 minutes. We returned the next night and it was only a 5 minute wait. I would describe this place as a Whitefish experience. The decor and ambiance is vibrant. The staff is friendly and efficient. The portions are huge and you could walk away stuffed after sharing an entree with someone else. Quality of food is ok. We got the minestrone soup which had a strange sweetness to it. The Nonna salad was good and garlic bread was tasty. The spaghetti and meatballs had a very thin sauce and was ok at best. So would I recommend going? I like that it has two floors, both with small barstool areas. I much enjoyed my brocollini which you cant get at too many places. I also love anywhere that posts thier menus outside. The place opens at 5pm. We showed up at 5:05 and there was already a line to get in the door. We sat at the bar. Ordered wine, nachos and tootsie rolls. Not your usual nachos and tootsie rolls. The nachos are made of pasta, smothered in a cream sauce and cheese with peppers on top. And the tootsie rolls are like egg rolls filled with ricotta cheese. Both appetizers are scrumptious! On to the main course. I had a pasta dish (don't recall the name) that was bowtie pasta with chicken, sun dried tomatoes and a rich cream sauce. Incredible dish! Small restaurant in Whitefish. Very very long wait to get in, we got there at 7:15pm, didn't sit until about 8 and then didn't eat until 8:45pm. They did say it would be a long wait when we checked in, so not mad at that. Food was ok. Definitely the star was the bruschetta with the fresh, melt in your mouth mozzarella. Pasta was super super hot (they make it when you order it, so you know it's coming right out of the pan), and I echo everyone's statement about the Garlic!! I have visited this restaurant again and again after quite a few very-good experiences with both the food and service. This time I had an impossible time relaxing or enjoying my meal because of the hostesses bizarre energy. We dined at Ciao Mambo on Easter weekend. That night the hostess was rude even from the beginning when she wrote our name down on the list. Once she seated us she then clumsily poured my party water, some were half-full, some had ice and some didn't. She knocked stuff off my table and didn't notice. She was frantically peering into the dining room and dodging her head around from the stairs by her station, often making eye contact with me, it made me feel like we should be eating faster. She was also STOMPING briskly through the place and rudely talking on the phone while leaning over mine and other tables. She was just totally rash and frantic and made everyone in my group uncomfortable. I respect the need for quickness in a busy restaurant but even when it slowed down she seemed to get a lot of self-importance out of speeding through the place with no regard to the people dining. It was kind of insane to watch and I have never seen this type of rash person hosting for a top-tier restaurant. She is the face that greets and sets the tone for the night. Now on the other hand my server was calm, cool and collected. She was also very nice and took time to explain a few things we had questions about. The server was great! And the food was great!!! The kitchen staff seemed to be working very efficiently. Everything came out hot, quickly and to our liking. Ciao Mambo is dropping down to 2-stars for now. I should have taken a pen out of her bun and scratched our name off the list before we even sat down. A couple hundred bucks would have been more enjoyably spent elsewhere, where the host has more couth. read more

The food was good but the service was marginal. We started with the bocconcini fritti (fried mozzarella balls in spicy marinara. It was good. We had the salad with the huckleberry vinaigrette but the dressing was too heavy and we did not taste the huckleberry at all. We had the manicotti ripieni (pasta stuffed with ricotta, mozz and parm cheese). It was also good but nothing special. The service was marginal Granted it was a busy night but we basically didn't see her. Also the bread looked great but wasn't because it was cold where we notice other servers make sure the bread was toasted the right amount of time. Really pleased with our meal at Ciao Mambo. While we were disappointed that they only take reservations for large parties, our wait on a Friday evening was ~45 mins. The complimentary garlic bread was devoured by our hungry group after a day of hiking Glacier. Our apps, calamari and Italian Nachos, were great and all three of our pasta entrees were very good; our youngest wasn't a fan of the pizza and I have to admit that it was a tad on the bland and undercooked side. My husband and I went here last night for dinner The staff was so nice and we were seated outside. I ordered the cheese ravioli and it came with stripes of green and red on the pasta it was delicious. My husband's spaghetti was as well. Giant meatballs. The best part of the meal was the ice cream, although I could not eat it all, pistachio! Woohoo! I am always looking for that flavor! We highly recommend a meal here. Horrible service, not so great food-dont waste your time and money...we have a friend that is a local who recommended this place, so we called to make a reservation. They called us to tell us our table was ready 30 min early. So we rushed there ( took 10 min btw). My fiancé s pizza had tomatoes on it after he asked multiple times to make sure it didn't have them on it. My marinara sauce for my pasta was cold and like it had been watered down compared to the apps sauce. We decided to order desserts since we didn't eat much of our meals. We ordered the lemon cake and the ice cream...sat for 30 min, in a restaurant that had only 1 other table filled with 4 people. Our waitress never came back in that 30 min to even give us more water or check on us, or ask for another beverage, which the guys would have drank. (We already drank the pitcher of water She forgot behind) The manager was just hanging out in that office with the other wait staff.. Came to the area to look for houses with my husband. He had been here for 3 months and went on and on about this restaurant, so of course I wanted to try it. We're get there right at 5pm when they open on a weekday. Greeted by the hostess who tries to sit us at a community high table. When I asked to sit at a normal height table, she gave me attitude and said "We usually reserve those for 'older' customers". Well 'dear', I'm older! I am short and prefer my feet to touch the ground when I sit. So again I requested to sit at the normal height table. Now you must know that the restaurant is EMPTY at this point. This was one of my worst experiences at a restaurant ever. We had a large party but made a reservation as required. Upon arrival, we were told our wait would not be long and were asked to wait on the steps up to the second floor. We waited a very long time and then were seated (after another large party who had a reservation after us) in a corner table that didn't fit all of us comfortably. As if that wasn't enough, we waited so long for our food that, after we were there for THREE hours, we got our food to go.
