What a fabulous vibe and atmosphere this establishment is. I love the gators on the ceiling too. Cashmere was an amazing server, always attentive to our needs. She did hear a Cpl of things wrong but it did get busy but glad we were able sit quickly. Shout out to Gage from Willie's Boil House who wanted our first bite of alligator to be memorable. He did not steer us wrong. We had hush puppies, gator bites, 1/2 Mambo's oysters, buffalo chicken po boy, chargrilled chicken with mustard greens and mashed potatoes. Every last morsel was well done to perfection except I would've preferred my oysters with French bread as opposed to a dinner roll. I would definitely come back again for sure. It was cold, it was starting to rain, so I ducked in here around 3pm for a snack and a drink. I opted for the BBQ shrimp and a New Orleans Iced Tea (instead of Long Island, get it... they're so clever). They missed the mark on the bread that came with the BBQ Shrimp. Most of the other places at which I've ordered this dish have had some kind of crusty bread or toasted bread. This was just a cold-ass bun! Boooooo for the cold-ass bun! Mambo's seems to be a very popular spot in NOLA! The line was wrapped but I got in after waiting about 15 minutes because I was by myself and ended up sitting at the bar on the second level. There were a lot of sticky areas and lots of gnats, but I did enjoy my food. I could tell the staff was a bit tired as well. It was also very loud and I'm not a fan of loud spaces. read more

Our Mambo's experience was definitely a mixed bag. Our server was friendly and took our orders pretty quickly, but after we ordered drinks the service went downhill. The manager needed our server to solve a problem with another table (which of course our server can't do anything about), but no one else filled in for him so we were just left without a server for at least 20 minutes. Our appetizer arrived when our entrees did, and the checks were all over the place. We watched our drinks sit at the bar for about 10 minutes before being brought over, and one of our drinks was forgotten. However, the actual food was great once it was brought out. I really enjoyed the alligator Caesar salad; the alligator was juicy and well seasoned and the salad had just the right amount of dressing. This was hopefully a one-off experience of bad service, but I likely won't be back when visiting Nola. read more

We ordered a half dozen of the Mambo's Favorite Oysters and a fried shrimp platter. Neither one disappointed. The flavor in the oysters was phenomenal and the serving of shrimp was aplenty. Both items were hot and served with a smile. The gentleman cooking the oysters came out and apologize the oysters coming to our table shortly after our entree. Unfortunately, not every spot lives up to the hype. During my recent visit to Mambo's, I encountered a mix of highs and lows that left me with a lot to think about. **The Food: Decent, But Not Memorable** We ordered 1/2 dozen chargrilled oysters, 5 fried oysters, side of fries and bread pudding for desert. Drinks, sweet tea, kids Shirley temple and our server Nakita suggested double margaritas for $20. Cool. Let's start with the food. While the dishes were acceptable, none of them stood out in a way that made me want to rush back for a second visit. The flavors were alright, but nothing felt particularly unique or exceptional--I had better chargrilled oysters at the Royal House, Oyster Bar. **The Drinks: A Major Letdown** The real disappointment came with the drinks. As a restaurant on one of the most iconic busiest streets in the world, I had high hopes for the drinks. Unfortunately, the margaritas were sweet with zero taste of tequila. We spoke with Greg the manager, and initially he understood our concerns and said he would have the bartender remake them. Wow the next drink came out were less sweet. You could not taste nor see the grand, and you still cannot taste the tequila. Keep in mind. These were doubles. **Service That Shines: Nakita Was a Star** What made the experience more bearable was our server, Nakita. She was incredibly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Nakita's service made a huge difference, and I could tell she genuinely cared about ensuring we had a positive experience. It's clear that she takes pride in her work, and I appreciated her patience and thorough explanations when we had questions about the menu. **A Letdown From the Bar Staff: Jody and Greg** Unfortunately, the positive experience didn't extend to the bar staff. Jody, the bartender, seemed completely disinterested in her job. Her attitude was off-putting, nonchalant, she had zero Customer Service skills and her lack of enthusiasm about making drinks correctly with evidence in every way. To make matters worse, Greg--presumably a manager--did nothing to address our concerns. When we raised an issue about the quality of the drinks, he not only refused to acknowledge the complaint but also showed a surprising lack of knowledge about the establishment and how drinks should be made. A good manager should know how to handle customer feedback, especially in a city where hospitality is key, but Greg's inability to resolve the issue left us feeling frustrated and ignored. If the policy for the establishment is no changes and no refunds, it should be placed in plain sight prior to entry into the restaurant. New Orleans is full of incredible dining options, and there are plenty of places in the French Quarter where you can get both great food and exceptional service. Unfortunately, this spot didn't make the cut. If you're in the French Quarter area, I'd recommend looking elsewhere to ensure a better overall experience. The two stars left on my review is for Nikita service only. If I could rate her a five star and leave the establishment zero, I would. read more

For my first meal in New Orleans, I had to try a little of everything. We started with some of the Gator Tail Bites, half blackened and half fried. These were fantastic, tasting similar to chicken, as I was told they might. For my main meal, I got the "Taste of New Orleans," which let me try gumbo, crawfish etouffee, and red beans & rice with smoked sausage. The gumbo was absolutely my favorite, but the crawfish etouffee was a close second, being extremely rich and spicy. The red beans & rice were underwhelming, but I had plenty to eat on the table, so I was not too disappointed. In a sea of fried seafood restaurants and so many known restaurants as someone who's been to Nola twice I would recommend skipping this restaurant. I didn't really enjoy the mambo oyster as the oyster were small as my pinky, the sauce wasn't saucing for me. The crab cake pasta was mid with so much pasta and one fried crab cake. We stopped by Mambo's around 2pm and it was fairly quiet. The staff (especially Summer!) are super friendly and efficient and took great care of us! Even though it was 90 degrees, we opted for the outdoor rooftop. The views of the city and down Bourbon street are amazing. The rooftop has umbrellas over the tables so you aren't directly in the sun. I had the taste of New Orleans, which comes with crawfish étouffée, chicken and sausage gumbo, and red beans and sausage. Rockefeller oysters cooked to the point they were basically gone, flavor weird and definitely not fresh. Fried Shrimp rubbery and not fresh. Crab cake inedible and smelled spoiled, spit it out for food safety reasons. Fried oysters fried so hard there was nothing left inside, also burnt and dark. Fried fish was overcooked, dry and tough. Red beans and rice ok, gumbo was weak and ok. Honestly I felt the food was close to being unsafe to eat. Shame on you for charging big prices for this food, shame on you for the lack of care and freshness of the product. Shame on you for cooking this bad of food in NO. I'm a chef and a foodie and own a restaurant. Someone needs to tell the truth here. I'm on vacation and came to NO for its cuisine. Do not eat here, gotta be a tourist trap, only way they could get away w this. You should take your food more seriously and represent this city as it should be.
