One of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. It took nearly 30 minutes before a server even came to our table, and we tried waving someone down multiple times but were completely ignored. It's not like the place was huge either, so it just felt really frustrating and honestly disrespectful. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp po' boy, which was decent but definitely needed more sauce. I ordered a dish I can't even remember the name of--it was fine, but pretty small and nothing special. Even the tables around us didn't seem impressed with their food, and we actually saw people leave after looking at the menu. Overall, the staff seemed like they didn't want to be there and had pretty bad attitudes. Honestly, I'd say save your money and go somewhere else. read more

This was the last day of our trip. Went out there for Skankfest (comedy festival). But our plane back to California wasn't until the evening, so went back to bourbon street to find somewhere to eat. Came in here shortly after they opened, sat in the back which is outside. It was nice setting and quiet. Don't remember our servers name but she was really nice and made sure everything was good for us. So great service. My friend got the fried platter add I tried the Gumbo with jambalaya. The fried platter, was good. It was the same as other restaurants. So safe bet. But the gumbo with jambalaya and chicken. Was great! Such a pretty space gone to waste. Saturday afternoon 11/1/25 at 12:30 PM my group of friends and I came in for brunch. We initially tried to go to Pat O'Brien's for a courtyard experience however, the wait was way too long. Rex's was across the street with plenty of open tables and a very cute and aesthetic vibe. I walked in and told them our party size (10) and the person at the front was kind and let me know she would put the tables together for us. We waited for about five minutes and took pictures of how cute the restaurant was! Such a beautiful space. As we were being seated the attitudes from the servers immediately became apparent. They were sighing, shaking their heads, and overtly rude. Our party was not drunk, loud, or disorganized. We sat down and were handed menus and did not receive service for at least 30 minutes. We were pleasant and did not want to cause any issues, but did not understand the attitude or lack of service given that there was one other occupied table in the restaurant. We ordered drinks and food which we waited on for over an hour. If there were more customers, it would've been understandable. Our lunch ended up being 3 hours long, and we were required to split our checks into 4 checks. That is perfectly okay given our group size, but each check was incorrect. By the time we checked out it had been way too long to even try to correct the checks. We paid and went on about our day. DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. Terrible, terrible service. We started off ordering 2 glasses of wine from the menu. The waitress returned to say that they didn't have the wine that I wanted so I chose a different once. She then brought our 2 glasses and my husband could immediately tell that the wine he received was not what he ordered. We drink Meomi Pinot Noir at home frequently and it has a very distinct taste and we both agreed it was not it. So he told the waitress and she took it back. Then a few minutes later the bartender came over and said that they didn't have the Meomi Pinot Noir. Um, so why did you serve him something else without telling him? Were they going to charge us for it but serve him something different? He ended up just ordering a glass of what I had ordered. For dinner, I had the Royale with Cheese and onion rings and it was very good. My husband had the Crabcake & Shrimp alfredo pasta. They served my burger to me but his meal didn't come out for another 10 minutes for some reason. He said it was ok but nothing special. The courtyard was cute and quiet, but we saw a rat running around near the outdoor bathroom, so that was fun. Overall, we wouldn't return here. read more

When I go into a place I ask what's most popular but I've already done my research and I know what's good to order there too. This spot is nice because they have plenty of seating at the bar, and indoor tables, and they have a back garden as well. I tried their gumbo and a scoop of their jambalaya and it was incredible and so fresh. Among the best I've had in New Orleans. Came here while trying to trek the length of Bourbon St. on a 99 degrees weather and we were all sweaty and hot, ready for any air conditioned restaurant that offers our list of must-haves here in NOLA. The menu outside the resto really helped, plus the garden/courtyard which we can see from outside looked cool and welcoming. We got our Fish Poboy and Shrimp Poboys at $22ish and it came with either 1 appetizer or 1 featured drink or 1 dessert. Not a bad deal and we love it! My wife and I had a long day sightseeing in New Orleans. What a fun time we've had! We had enjoyed a big breakfast buffet and snacked all day long. We had walked back to our hotel but decided to head to Bourbon Street early before all the "crazies" hit the street. From a friend's recommendation we decided to give "Rex House Kitchen & Courtyard" a whirl. From the time we arrived, we were treated like royalty just like Rex, the king of Mardi Gras. The hostess greeted us with a huge smile and made some "small talk" as she led us to our table in the restaurant's beautiful courtyard. As we were being seated, she again welcomed us to the restaurant and said for us to enjoy our drinks and meal. We were then greeted graciously by Amiri, our server. She asked if we had any questions about the menu and if we needed any drink suggestions. Since it was a bit warm, my wife ordered one of their signature Frozen Hurricanes and I opted for a 6-1-9 SAZERAC. The Sazerac is one of the iconic drinks of New Orleans and I'd been trying them during our visit wherever I could. In a snap, Amiri delivered our drinks to our table. She wanted to know if we'd made any decisions about what we'd like to eat. We told her we weren't super hungry but were thinking about a burger. She suggested the "Royale with Cheese." She said it was one of her "go-to" menu items she really enjoyed. We asked if it was OK if we split one. Of course it was! By the time we'd arrived, Bourbon Street was already ramping up. Right outside of Rex, there was a huge street dancer show going on that was VERY loud. We almost hesitated going into the restaurant but decided to go with our friend's recommendation. We were glad we did. Even with all the noise outside the restaurant, the Rex's Courtyard was surprisingly quiet. In fact, very quiet. My wife and I were so happy to be able to sit back, relax and enjoy our wonderful drinks. Our "Royale with Cheese" arrived at our table, delivered expertly by our wonderful server and already cut in half. What attention to detail! The burger was made up of Angus Beef Patties topped with shredded cheddar cheese and creole mayo. It was served dressed on a toasted brioche bun and paired with Cajun Seasoned French fries. Oh WOW, it was one of the best burgers we'd had in a long time. Amiri, you made our visit to "Rex House Kitchen & Courtyard" very memorable. We came on a Thursday around noon. The place was very quiet but the whole street was pretty empty- so we were able to be seated right away. The courtyard is very nice and great atmosphere. We thought the dishes were very good- great flavors in both the crab cakes and duck gumbo. The portions were pretty small though, but that's partially expected in a touristy area. We were told afterwards that the credit card reader hadn't been working, but we didn't have cash - thankfully the reader ended up working, but would've been nice to have gotten the warning earlier! Rex House was an extremely disappointing experience -- and that was just over the phone. I called to ask a simple question: whether they offered chicken‑only jambalaya, since I don't eat pork. The person who answered told me they had "chicken and sausage." I clarified that sausage is pork and asked again if they could make it without sausage. He repeated "chicken and sausage" in a dismissive tone and then hung up on me. It's one thing if a restaurant can't accommodate dietary restrictions -- that's understandable. But being rude, unhelpful, and hanging up on a customer is unacceptable. There are plenty of great restaurants in the French Quarter that treat people with respect and are happy to answer questions. Rex House is not one of them. I won't be dining here, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who expects basic courtesy or needs clear information about their food. read more

Passed here a few times while on vacation. The Bourbon Orleans Hotel valet gave us coupons here so we gave it a try for lunch. My son also said it was highly rated on reddit. It has only been open a few months. The night before we got dessert to go. I got a pecan bread pudding and my wife got a chocolate cake. The pudding was decent but very heavy! It sat in my stomach. I didn't try the cake but my wife liked it. The next day we went for lunch. The duck empanadas were very good. The Taste of New Orleans had Seafood Gumbo, Jambalaya, Red Beans and Rice and a Corn chowder. I didn't know corn chowder was a New Orleans specialty. They were 4 small bowls for $26.50. In line with area pricing. They were good not great. My son enjoyed the soft shell crab crab platter. This consisted of a lot of fried crab on top of fries and onion rings. Stumbled upon this gem from a recommendation by the doorman at the Bourbon Orleans hotel. It had only been open about 6 weeks before our visit. Friendly staff and more importantly, fantastic food. You will find NOLA favorites as well as some gourmet takes on traditional recipes like the Duck Empanadas. So good! Three to an order and came stuffed with roasted duck and pepper jack cheese and served with Jalapeno Ranch garnished with green onions. There is a sizeable bar with a large TV that happened to be playing the Saints Game which added a lot of spirit to the atmosphere. Plenty of table space and a view of the kitchen. I had the taste of New Orleans, which gives you a choice of either three or four of New Orleans's most infamous dishes. It's a good thing I was in sight of the kitchen, as I was going to choose three. However, I saw that the bowls were smaller, so four would not be a problem. This gave me the full complement of the best of the best: Creole Chicken and Andouille Jambalaya, Crab and Corn Bisque, Red Beans and Rice, and Duck and Andouille Gumbo. I enjoyed the gumbo the most due to its unique take with the addition of the duck. Red Beans & Rice was totally on point. The Crab and Corn Bisque came out a bit lukewarm so the flavors were not as rich as I would have imagined. The jambalaya had an excellent flavor. My portion did not have that much chicken or andouille, but it was enough to give me a taste. For dessert on another visit, we tried the "Is It Cake?" which is a flourless chocolate torte. It was exceptionally good and just as rich as described. We also tried the bread pudding, which was a very large portion. It was good, although a bit on the heavy side, probably due to the sheer size. All in all, it is a great spot for some unique menu items in the heart of the French Quarter. read more

On Bourbon street with a black and white contrast decor, the staff was friendly, attentive and welcoming. Their blue crab and corn soup was the best we've had. The other items on the tour of nola, were good, but that crab and corn soup was exceptional. The fried chicken salad was okay but I'd suggest getting the shrimp fried rather than blackened, which we subbed. That salad needed a fried crunchy addition. read more

Visiting from Atlanta and wanted to try some authentic jambalaya and my search on Yelp led me here. Such a nice ambiance. We came on Monday (Labor Day) in the early evening and sat outside on the patio. Kash was our waiter and was well attentive and friendly! Definitely the best meal I had while on our trip. Loved the blackened chicken jambalaya. It was so flavorful and very filling. I ended up not finishing it all and taking it to go and warmed up nicely the next day. For appetizers we got the gator bites and the duck empanadas. Highly suggest those! Also got the Margarita (with a double shot per Kash's suggestion) and it was sweet but Still good. We stopped here twice during our stay, and the food is incredible! The blue crab and corn bisque is my favorite, and definitely get it with a side of french bread! I had the soft shell crab platter, and boyfriend had the nachos. The crab was incredible, with a crispy and flavorful breading. The jalapeño hushpuppies were great too! Nice jalapeño flavor with the tiniest hint of a kick. Service was great both times. I don't remember the name of who we had the first time, but second time we had Chrissy and she was great! Wonderful presence and provided great recommendations. We will definitely be back next time we are in town!
