Friendly Hostess, clean & bright dining area & cool decor. Our Server was Jose (he was awesome). He helped with menu & answered all our questions patiently & enthusiastically. The Empanadas were Amazing - 5 Stars +++, these are at the level of "I will go out of my way to get" - right along with the Mambo Fried Rice. Both are what carried our dining experience to 5 Stars along with Jose. My wife felt the soup was kind of bland, it got better with the addition of sauce. Despite all the seafood, the soup itself did not taste like it was cooked together if that makes sense. We shared a fried seafood platter (Crawfish) - plenty of fried goodness. The good - The fish was delicious, I liked the stuffed shrimp. The okay- the shrimp & crayfish was very dry - it didn't help that the cocktail sauce was very weak, I basically could not tell the difference between the cocktail sauce & the ketchup. The Mambo classic 4 (15 fried shrimp with a side of fried rice), which was $2 off during lunch on weekdays, was delicious and a great value. I ordered 12 grande shrimp sautéed with scampi sauce but was given grilled grande shrimp skewers. We planned to share so I didn't ask for a remake. The server brought out a dish of scampi sauce. The shrimp would have been more flavorful cooked in the scampi sauce. The shrimp skewers were good but slightly over cooked. The signature fried rice is always delicious. We ordered a frozen mango margarita and a lime margarita on the rocks, YUM. Not one for frozen drinks, but I may pop on by for another mango margarita. The apps we did get delivered: shrimp cocktail, and the bite-size, deep fried salmon. We did not order this but we were told salmon was "chicharrón style" I couldn't locate in the menu but it had a nice crunch and was flavorful. The shrimp cocktail (Ceviche) was erroneously ordered... as basic as it was, it didn't taste awful. When we got our buffalo shrimp, it was very saucy and had a nice kick. Vuela a la vida platter is a mix of squid, shrimp, and octopus sautéed in choice of Mambo Ranchero Sauce or scampi (i wasn't asked if I preferred a a sauce and was automatically given scampi - not my fav as the buttery sauce seeped into the rice making everything a bit more oily then I'd prefer.) Walking into this place immediately gave me tropical vibes -- the music, the colors, the whole ambiance just made me feel like I was back in San Juan or somewhere in the Caribbean eating fresh seafood by the water. It's such a chill, fun atmosphere and honestly sets the mood before you even order anything. I took my family out for dinner and we had an absolute blast. This was our first time ever trying a seafood boil, and let me tell you... they set the bar HIGH. The flavors, the portions, the whole experience was something new for us and we were all looking at each other like "why haven't we done this before?" What I really liked is that it's perfect for families when some people want regular seafood and others want a boil -- everyone gets what they want without compromise. They even brought out this little "chum bucket" for the shells and trash, which cracked us up, and the bibs were the cutest touch. Small details, but they make the whole experience feel fun. But we came for the food right? This restaurant was recommended to us solely because of the rice. Yes the rice is that good! Went there during lunch time, maybe 3-6 other guests there & got promptly seated. But the experience after that was all negative. The silverware was dirty. The tea tasted like 99% water with tea "essence". All 5 (different style) plates were served cold. Worst of all, my daughter had a minor complaint which i kindly tried to call for, & address to, the manager. I think her name was Mary, i don't remember, but it was like talking to a brick wall. she had no sympathy for our concern. Delicious food at great prices! We had eaten at the one in the RGV previously and were very familiar with the menu. We mostly ordered fish and shrimp but my daughter ordered the octopus in scampi sauce. I love their light breading, the fried rice, and their tarter sauce is delicious. One of my daughters loved the stuffed shrimp.The drinks are flavorful and fun. We had a pitcher of the pepino lime and a watermelon margarita. I had the stuffed shrimp & fish fillet of course the shrimp was spicy- husband says it was fantastic- but those fish fillets (fried) were on point - the red sauce was way too spicy for me but drinks from the bar made up for the heat- the "playa de coco" incredible, but as in all bars the tequila pour could have been a little heavier my husband had the Mar y Sol, refreshing, His street elote was the best he's had but again very spicy even the part that didn't have the goodies on it. In town for business staying at the hotel next door. Thought about going there last night but didn't HUGE mistake. Went tonight. Sat at the bar Savanah (learned her name later) the bartender was not behind the bar (she was busy taking care of others before me), another of the staff greeted me just as I sat down seconds later he tells Savanah that I was there instantly she greeted me with another patrons food in hand saying I'll be right back. Long story short Service = Excellent Food = excellent Price = very reasonable for fresh seafood Fresh gulf oysters And a fresh seafood display on ice in full view like you would see at a fish monger.
