Let's start off with the service. The servers, Yaneth, Michel, Ashley, Cabrera and Xóchitl, are outstanding. They are on top of things and if one of them is tied up, any of the others will willingly take care of the customer. The food: Everything we've tried has been outstanding. We normally start off with the guacamole and fish chicharron. You are served a large portion of guac (sometimes hard to finish) and the chicharron (fried fish strips) that sometimes make a full meal. Any of the entrees we've tried have all been great. I am not one for octopus (too rubbery) but my wife ordered a whole one and had me try it. It was actually soft and easy to chew. Not that I would ever order it, but if you like octopus, I believe you'll like it. Their pasta dishes are awesome and you can even ask to remove any seafood you don't like from the dish (such as octopus!) My wife likes the Mojarra a la Diabla which is whole tilapia in a red sauce. I've tried it, it's good, but I just can't eat something that's staring back at me. Try this place. It's small and sometimes parking is hard to find but well worth it. read more

I don't know where to start bragging about Las Islas Marias! I have been a loyal customer for years! This restaurant isn't only for good food but the perfect establishment for entertainment and people watching! At every visit it never fails to see something unusual. From clowns performing... to mariachis... to people selling random things. One time a lady walked in carrying a table to sell... so yes this restaurant i believe function on Mexico time lol and I am in love with it! Also the food is super good! This is by far my favorite Mexican Seafood place in San Antonio. This place is similar to ones in East Los Angeles. The Aguachile Verde is the best as well as their other menu items. This was my second time there. I hadn't been since when they first opened. As I was driving up I was wondering why I never went back. I remembered once the food came. I ordered shrimp in a butter garlic sauce as listed or camaronnes al ajo as it's called other places. It was gross. Not sure how else to describe it. I feel like I want to puke it up now. The cantarito my tequila drink was good. I'm grateful I ordered it because it's topped off with soda. Soda I need to burp the food. Once the server served us she never came back. We asked for our ticket twice before finally getting it. Then when we went up to cash out the cashier stayed on the phone. Yes, she was helping a customer on the line but never acknowledged us other than to take payment. My boyfriend liked his paella. It was extra soupy. I've never seen soupy paella. My husband and I have made Islas Maria's our go to mariscos spot. We came here for the first time 3 months ago and have been back every week since for put 'Mariscos Mondays'. There were no tables open when we arrived but we only waited about 5 mins. Aye caramba! This place is muy delicioso! Some of the best seafood I've had around here! Absolutely delicious stuff. The place is in a small place along SW Military that's easy to miss. I really enjoyed the menu. Only one item here is fried. The rest are all served in much healthier ways. The drinks here are plentiful and varied. They have everything from margaritas to aguas frescas to a beer can topped in cucumbers, shrimp, and Tapatio hot sauce. I can't say I've ever (intentionally!) had seafood in my beer, but somehow it worked in an ice cold Tecate. The menu is mainly ceviches, each of which is more imaginative than the next. I got a molecajete cajo, which is a spicy bowl of mussels, shrimp, octopus and cucumbers. It was honestly one the best ceviches I've had! Really fantastic. The service was great, but they didn't speak English. However, the menu has all pictures so it's easy to point at the photos if you're having difficulties. They have live music too! While we were leaving, an accordion player and his band were setting up. Viva! Parking is not the best in the front, but there's a large lot in the back that makes it easy! Our server was very attentive, as soon as we sat down she placed chips and two kinds of salsa along with A small plate of ceviche (i think). The chips were very crunchy and homemade one of the salsa's was hot and the other mild, we loved the small plate of ceviche we even wanted to ask for more! To the white people out there (im one of them) , don't be scared of this place because they don't really speak English. We are Californians who traveled from Austin and this is the closest thing to quality mariscos we have had. Ceviche: complementary , sooooo good. I was impressed with this place from the moment the waitress placed a basket of tostadas on the table with an accompanying bowl of complimentary ceviche. And it wasn't a tiny bowl either; there was plenty of it there for three of us to enjoy. I ordered the sublime filete de pescado relleno plate. This was a huge fish filet with shrimp, octopus, peppers and I don't even know what else under a layer of melted cheese. I arrived pretty late on a Friday evening after work. I actually had driven by the place and saw what looked like to be a Mexican Trio entertaining the diners so I figured, why not? The place was packed to the gills and a waitress eventually wiped a table down for me and took my drink order. Something about Mexican beer and seafood being the perfect match. Or possible the spicy seafood make the beer a greater thirst quencher! A Pacifico was brought to me--although I ordered a Victoria--along with a basket full of golden tostadas and saltine cracker packets. A tiny bowl of ceviche was brought to the table along with a duo of green salsas. The ceviche was tasty and had a much different appearance that I have been accustomed to previously. The tiny pieces of minced fish resembled crumbled queso fresco mixed with a pico de gallo. I then opted for the mixed ceviche plate: a combo of fish and shrimp ceviches. I tasted the salsas and boy were they hot! Actually, one was more tangy than hot. The ceviches were both fresh and tasty and the portions were fairly large. They have other seafood offerings like the legendary pescado zarrandeoado. I'll probably be back, although I wouldn't haunted in my dreams if I didn't. I'll definitely try to find a better deal although for seafood, I think only Mexico can beat current seafood prices. read more

From passing by the restaurant on the Northwest side, I was really interested and excited about trying it here. However, we visited the location on the Southside and it was not what I was expecting. The building was run down and falling apart, too many tables in such a tight space, the restrooms were dirty and awkward to slide into due to space, just an overall uncomfortable atmosphere. The food was okay, but for the price we paid, about $25 each person, we would expect more. The food was cold and should've been warm, and the staff only spoke Spanish. It's okay to speak Spanish of course, but if someone doesn't know it, they shouldn't feel like they cannot communicate with their waitress. Three stars from me! Hopefully they improve. read more

This food is very plain and pedestrian. Food for people who drink "Miller Lite", watch football, and drives a Ford F-150. I sent back the "chicken chipotle", it's a chicken breast flatten down thinner then a tortilla. The chicken was so over cooked it was crunchy and dried out with flat-top markings. The chipotle sauce didn't have a ounce of heat spice and was watery and lack favor. Only cops and beer drinkers would think its good. The fajitas was also a disappointment, the meat are pre-cut and I know the meat is cooked without any seasonings. Which is why the meat was so dried any flavorless. To give meat flavor you have to season your protein with salt and pepper for the meat to come out moist and have flavor. None of that here. Food. 1/10. read more
