The price was $23.49, and I upgraded to a premium side for an extra $2.49 sweet potato. The house bread came out first--warm, soft, and great with the honey butter. When I heard the Thousand Island dressing was made in-house, I chose the salad instead of the soup. Glad I did because the dressing was really good. My steak was cooked medium well (don't judge) and came out perfectly. It was juicy and had that slight char around the edges that I love. The service was good. This is only one of many locations here in San Antonio, we're all familiar with what SaltGrass is about: your average steakhouse dine & bar with a southern-themed concept. I always come here for mother/daughter dinners when I visit. They alway get our order right, they are very friendly--all the time, and food is always very good. I won't let one bad experience ruin my overall opinion--it's more of a 'one time' disappointment. I love the mixed drinks (very strong), and the bbq ribs & asparagus are my go-to every time, but today they went down a star. The drink was missing its garnish--as mentioned on the drink menu--and there was a hair on my ribs... I will mention the customer service was excellent--the manager brought us out a replacement and boxed it up for us to-go. I also had a to-go order, and that too, was boxed fresh with everything separated without mention. Like I said before, they are always professional, so I won't let this one time ruin it for me, 4 stars for customer service. Words don't begin to describe my joy when I found out this restaurant brought back the redfish -- my very favorite dish on their menu. I had to make do with the salmon when I visited before, and it just was not the same. I made a reservation and we were seated very quickly. Our waitress was attentive and informative and the food was very tasty. My husband had a ribeye steak and was completely satisfied. My last dinner in San Antonio was at nearby LongHorn Steakhouse, and it was such a disappointment that I wanted to try out this Saltgrass Steakhouse as my last meal in San Antonio, outside of the airport at least. This Saltgrass location is located just off the 410 loop west of the 281. It's real close to the airport and was a big reason why I chose to dine here right before my last rental car ride to the airport. Besides this one and the Riverwalk location, which I had already visited, there are four other locations in San Antonio. There was someone right at the front door, but it looks like he's actually an employee who simply opens the front door for you. Greeter perhaps? But then again, he's not really doing any greeting. When I came in, I saw the bar off to the left, and I asked the hostess if the bar was open seating, to which she answered affirmatively. I chose to sit there. A minute or two after I took a seat at the bar, Brittney was the one who served me. She was pretty good, a lot better than the server I had the previous night at LongHorn. She got me started with a glass of iced water, and then I asked her about the lunch specials. I had seen them online, but turns out they're only for weekdays. A little disappointing, but I wouldn't have been able to make a weekday lunch anyhow. The previous night, I had an Outlaw Ribeye from LongHorn, so this time, I wanted to do something a little different and choose a seafood. I didn't want another steak since it would have been 2 steak meals within a 24-hour time span. As a result, I went with the Atlantic Salmon. Brittney mentioned the salmon would come with a side and a soup or salad. For the side, I asked about the flash fried green beans, and she mentioned they are only lightly fried at best, about 30 seconds tops. I wanted to see how lightly fried green beans would taste, so I went with the green beans. For the soup, I already had the Loaded Baked Potato Soup from the Saltgrass Riverwalk location, so i went with the other soup option, the Chicken Tortilla. Brittney also offered me bread to go with my tortilla soup, and I couldn't refuse. The soup, however, was quite watery. Definitely nowhere near as creamy as the Loaded Baked Potato, but the flavor was still there nonetheless. It just doesn't go as well with the complimentary bread, but there is enough butter for the piece of bread that you get. It took a while for the plate of Atlantic Salmon and Flash Fried Green Beans to come out. I was impressed at how the Flash Fried Green Beans were cooked. Almost to perfection, at least according to my taste buds! The salmon was quite good, but could have been better, at least in the flavor department. The top of the salmon was nicely charred, but perhaps borderline burnt? Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the rest of the salmon. When I was done, Brittney was impressed at how I ate so fast! Well, I did have to catch a flight in 3 hours, so that's why I didn't want to spend too long there, but the tasty food helped as well. It could have had better flavor overall, but I was satisfied enough that I'd consider this a successful meal to end my trip to San Antonio. The interior of the restaurant is kind of dark, but there's plenty enough western decor to make you admire the place while you wait for your food. Service overall by Brittney and the other servers from what I could see was on point. Farewell Saltgrass and farewell San Antonio! It's been real. They don't have a location in California, but if I travel somewhere else that has a Saltgrass location, I'll definitely stop by! :) read more

I know, I know, us self-acknowleged steak snobs are not to flock to 'chain' grill joints, but....oh, my....this was an impeccable flavor and and, Oh, so tender. As a longtime Landry member, we enjoy doing reviews on different Landry locations around Texas. While visiting San Antonio, we decided to stop at this Saltgrass for a late lunch. Upon entering, we were welcomed and accommodated with a table request. The environment was quiet and noticed several large parties. We ordered drinks which came out quickly and then ordered a 6 count shrimp cocktail, which appeared not to be cleaned properly and no pico on the cocktail sauce. We ordered the redfish and it came out hot and very delicious. We don't normally go to this location but was in the area so we stopped for dinner. There was a bit of a wait and lots of tables open. Ordered my son a cheeseburger no bun and wife had a filet. They brought his cheeseburger with the bun. When we told them all they did was take it bake and take the bun off. It was unacceptable to us. My wife is celiac and if that was for her she would have gotten sick. We told the manager but it didn't seem like a big deal to her. Another long day at the office with no time to run out for lunch. This time we tried the lunch menu. The prices have really gone up. My small sirloin without any drink was over $20 after tax and tip. I had the sirloin with green beans and caesar salad. The salad was fresh and I enjoy the dressing. The green beans were the start of the show. Fresh and not overcooked, with a nice seasoning. But the sirloin disappoints. It was medium rare as I ordered, but my coworkers asked what all the noise was as I tried to cut it. The plastic knife had trouble cutting through all the gristle. I typically avoid dining at chain restaurants when I travel, but family picked Salt Grass and to be fair, it's a classic - we've had countless meals at the 410 and 281 locations, but this one was perfect right after flying into SAT. Location is decked out in classic hill country decor with taxidermy heads on the walls and western paintings and memorabilia. Service was friendly and attentive, I appreciate that our server was patient with my grandmother and aunt, who had several customizations for their orders. Portions are large but that didn't stop us from going overboard with ordering. If you like blue cheese, upgrade your salad to the wedge to start off with - it's practically the size of your head and worth the upcharge. BF picked the chicken fried steak, I had the surf & turf (steak and fried gulf shrimp), mom had the porkchop - the proteins were all pretty solid, porkchop was the surprise hit. The steak was undercooked (ordered medium rare) and underseasoned, which is disappointing for a steakhouse, but the gulf shrimp were large and crispy. Sides were pretty average. If you somehow have room, the carrot cake slice (much like the wedge salad) is gigantic and easily sharable, and one of the best in town. read more
