Ate here a short time ago with my wife and had a wonderful experience. We first enjoyed the Sangria while waiting for our meals. The food was incredibly good and the portions sizable. My wife had the Piccadilly and I had one of the seafood Paellas. Rarely do I have leftovers to take home as I have a big appetite. Mambo's is definitely the exception in this regard. Do NOT order pickup or delivery at this Mambos. They *** SEVERELY *** deprioritize pickup and delivery orders. Curly hair hostess is very nice and will give you an ETA. The short heavyset hostess that was working Sunday afternoon looked at me like I was speaking another language. I wasn't rude and waited patiently for 20 minutes; she never gave me an ETA. I heard good things about Mambo's and was very excited to try it. I was underwhelmed by the Cuban sandwich. The yellow rice and black beans were good. My husband was underwhelmed by his food as well - grilled chicken and french fries. There was not a lot of flavor to it. The complimentary garlic bread was good. Not sure what kind of sauce came with it, but it was very spicy. The service was extremely slow. We came just before the lunch rush, so the restaurant was relatively empty. We had to wait 20 minutes after finishing our meal to get a to-go box and the check. This was for lunch during the workweek. It should not take 20 minutes to get a check. Very disappointed in the way our check was handled. I went to Mambo's with a friend for dinner. We split our check. My bill was roughly $17 while my friend's bill was roughly $28. Our server charged the wrong amount on the wrong card. Not sure how this happened because we 100% put the right card with the right bill. Even though the server was very apologetic, I just don't understand how this could have happened. He was rushing around all night so I can only imagine it was a result of rushing and carelessness. Another disappointment: we were served burnt bread. Not just slightly burned...it was completely burnt on the top (see photo). Why would a restaurant even serve that? The only reason I gave this restaurant a 3 star was because my meal was very tasty. I got the lomo saltado, and it tasted like an authentic Peruvian dish. It was great! read more

I am a regular going to Mambo's Cafe once a week. My favorite dishes are Crispy Ceviche this one is made with fish and crispy calamari on top just delicious and Filete de Pescado a la Chorrillana brings me back memories of Sunday's lunch with my family in Lima. The service is outstanding all the servers are very nice and helpful. My son loves the Churrasco with white rice is always good and do not forget to try Lomo Saltado is exquisite. Huge portions! I'm a big eater and I even had leftovers for my next meal. That's awesome for the price since this place isn't too expensive. I love the Grouper Sandwich. It's flavorful and tender. I also got the rice and beans as sides and they were delicious. Some places have lacking sides, but the sides here were really good. We had a large group and they split our large bill which was much appreciated. There is a parking lot out front. read more

This is the best restaurant with Peruvian food we have been able to find in the greater Atlanta area. We had the Arroz Chaufa (Peruvian Fried Rice with Steak) with fried plantains and the Lomo Saltado (Steak over rice, French fries, green pepper and sautéed onions). Both were delicious! The place has plenty of seating and parking. Service is very good; they give you warm perfect bread to open your appetite. Place is kept clean. There are many other great options in the menu, so it's a shame that this restaurant is "so far" from Atlanta to not be able to come here more often. :( read more

Cigar smoking, beer drinking, AND Cuban vegetarian! I am a walking contradiction. Growing up Cuban I spent the first part of my life eating the best Cuban food in the world, my Mom's. Spending the next twenty five years as a vegetarian, most of my favorite Cuban food was still my moms, or my own cooking, doing my best copying her recipes. It is tough for me to find a great Cuban restaurant because I can't help but compare it to home, and Cuban food is not very vegetarian friendly. So when I say that I am a fan of Mambo's, they have earned all four of these stars. Mambo's Cafe does a great job offering classic Cuban and Peruvian cuisine. Cuban and Peruvian cuisines are very complimentary, as Peruvian food offers up some peppery heat which is usually not present in Cuban food, and the Cuban sofrito of garlic, onions and milder green peppers brings a comfort food quality to the table. The menu is large with a lot of options, and even a couple plates marked vegetarian. I will say I appreciate the effort. I ordered the mixed vegetables, more out of curiosity then anything else, and found the meal was surprisingly better than expected, but not one that I would order again. The menu offers a great selection of appetizers, sandwiches, and entrees. The black beans are done well, maduros and tostones were okay. I am looking forward to returning to try the Peruvian "Papa a la Huancaina" (potatoes with a spicy cheese sauce) as well as more of the Cuban menu. Service was fast and friendly. Prices are a bit high, but not out of the ordinary for area Cuban restaurants. So while I don' expect to see tofu on the menu any time soon, it is fantastic to have a great Cuban restaurant right here in Alpharetta! read more

The old Mambo location was really close to my work, so I'm disappointed that I have to drive up to Windward to go to the new location (in the parking lot of Lowe's). On the bright side, the new location is much nicer looking (it's a new construction strip mall, so even the interior smells like fresh wood). They even have a couple of indoor picnic-style tables, if you don't mind dining next to strangers. Fortunately the excellent menu has stayed the same, and there is no price increase (you get a lot of tasty food for around $8.50). The place gets packed at lunch so I'd recommend getting there right at noon if you don't want to wait. Service was very slow (took 35 min to get my lunch entree), but I'll give them a pass on that since they are getting used to the new locale. read more

I had been wanting to try Mambo's for awhile and I am so happy we finally did! I selected the Filete Tilapia a la Parrilla - which is grilled tilapia with lemon sauce, rice, black beans and plantains. You have a choice between white and yellow rice, definitely go with the yellow rice. The black beans were more like a black bean soup minus the cheese and sour cream so we just added it ourselves. Normally I avoid ordering fish to-go or for delivery (we used Uber Eats), though I had absolutely nothing to worry about. It was delicious - I just need to try and add a side of plantains next time because they were too delicious to only have three! The single reason I am giving 4 out of 5 stars relates to the second entree we ordered - Bife Ancho, grilled rib eye (no onion) with rice, black beans, plantains and chimichurri. I did not try it myself, however I am told it was a bit overcooked. Despite it being a little overcooked, we both greatly enjoyed their food and we will be ordering from them again in the future! read more

If you enjoy Peruvian cuisine, I recommend Mambo's. The food is excellent and I don't know another place around that makes a good pisco sour. If you like hanger/skirt steak, then you should try the churrasco. It is a similar cut of meat with delicious chimichurri sauce and one of their best dishes. I do think they tend to undercook a bit, so if you like medium rare, I suggest ordering medium, ect. Other family favorites here are the Cazuelita Barcelona, Pechuga de Pollo Empanizado, and for the younger folks Inca Cola. This is a great place for work lunches too because they don't require reservations (*shout out to my favorite reservations troll*) and the service is fast. Some of the dishes can be pricey because the cost of seafood has risen so much. The restaurant is located in a smaller retail out parcel along with another popular bar, so parking can sometimes be tough, but if you don't mind looking for a parking space for a few minutes, it's well worth the wait. read more

What can I say about Mambos?? Everything!!! Hummm, well the fact that my work buddies and I have been happily eating lunch at Mambos for over 10 years is a great start! As I mentioned in a previous post, we eat out for lunch as a group most days. Mambos is and has always been on the top of our list of favorite lunch destinations! Many years ago I thought "I'm not sure I will like Cuban food, it's probably spicy". Boy was I wrong!!! It's not spicy, it's flavorful! Don't hesitate to give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Mambos has daily specials, listed on a big board up front. The waiter will explain every special and will answer any questions you may have. In addition to the specials, they have a great lunch menu with lots of choices - steak choices, multiple chicken dishes, vegetarian, fish, Cuban sandwiches, etc. believe me, there is something for everybody here! They even have hamburgers and fries for picky eaters!!! Jose has been our favorite waiter at Mambos for years now!!! He knows us by name and excitingly greets us each time we go. Great personality, feels like a family member, always gives great service!!! We love Jose!!! The quality and quantity of the food is great. In my opinion it's still one of the best values out there for lunch! Other restaurants charge $12 or more for lunch and in my opinion the quality and quantity is always better at Mambos. Don't be intimidated that the entrees have names you may not be able to pronounce, I'm telling you, this place will turn you into a Cuban/Peruvian food lover! I just celebrated a big birthday, I could have gone anywhere for lunch - I picked Mambos! Hairs on the Guacamole!!! Mambos café quickly became one of my favorite places to eat Cuban food when we moved to the area. However, yesterday we found, not one, not two, but three long black hairs in our guacamole. The polite waiter apologized and told me he would mention it to the manager. He returned and said the manager stated they will not charge us for the guacamole that he took away. Really??? When I asked what they planned to do to make sure this doesn't happen again he said he would ask the manager. I watched them from a distance speak for a few seconds, and then the manager just walked over to a chair and sat down and started using her cell phone. I honestly don't know what had happened to basic customer service. If I was the manger, I would have walked to the customer and apologized and tried to provide assurance that this doesn't normally happen. It was obvious the waiter (Cruz) cared more than the manager did. We finish eating our main entrees (after a close inspection), paid, and left feeling very disappointed and let down about the whole incident. This has become a good friend's go-to for a nice lunch on Windward. Since Mambo's is just west of the main hubbub, it's a little less frenetic than the rest of the places in the area. I've tried several dishes: ropa vieja with cuban rice, lechon asado, chicken with garlic, steak salad. The meats are always tender and flavorful. Most recently, I got the enchilado de vegetales - mixed vegetables cooked in sofrito sauce, served with plantains, rice, and black beans. The server recommended the white rice due to the sofrito sauce. It was tasty and felt indulgent, even though it was vegetables! The black beans are always creamy, the rice fluffy, and the plantains nicely caramelized on the edges. If you get the tostones, I recommend asking for extra of the green sauce that comes with the bread and mixing it in the mojo that comes with the tostones. The green sauce is spicy but thick, the mojo is dippable but too subtle; together they are perfect. Service is fast and friendly. They handled our group of 9 with separate checks without a hitch. read more

The food this time was not up to par. The lechon asado was very dry. The mojo is definitely not the same as you would get in Miami or make yourself. The black beans were missing a few items no onions, green peppers and vinegar. We asked for some chimichuri sauce since it was so dry and the server said that it would cost $3.50. the churasco was so tough we could barely chew it. The other thing that was bad was we are all non-smokers but the smell of the cigar shop next door is so overwhelming that you can smell it throughout the whole restaurant.
