Nice place. It's in a neighborhood in Frankfort so you aren't looking at a bunch of traffic from the patio. I don't have a lot of experience with Honduran food but I liked what I got. I got the Baleadas. I've only had them once before and these were very similar but not identical. It's a folded tortilla with a variety of fillings. I got beans, chorizo and Honduran cheese. It was good. I don't know if they are making there own flour tortillas but they are fresh and chewy. The tortillas really stood out. I will definitely be back for drinks on the patio and to try some other offerings. read more

I stopped at this delightful restaurant after touring Buffalo Trace Distillery as it is only a mile and a half away. Located in a neighborhood, Mami Manchita's was neat and clean inside and out. You have a choice of indoor or outdoor dining. Our server was friendly and answered our questions about menu items. We started with guac and chips and it was some of the best guac I've ever eaten. Twice as much as served at that famous Chi...le chain restaurant, and the fresh corn chips were a perfect portion, with the last scoop of guac landing on the last tortilla chip. I ordered the Revuelto Hondurenos, a bowl containing rice, frijoles guisados, grilled chicken, mantaquilla hondurena, shredded cheese and chismol. Basically a rice and beans dish with subtle flavor but not spicy hot. It was delicious! The lunch serving ($12.99) could easily feed 2 people. I highly recommend this restaurant and plan to stop here again the next time I tour nearby distilleries: Buffalo Trace, Woodford and Wild Turkey. read more

My companion and I stopped in on a Friday evening. We chose to sit inside but there was plenty of outdoor seating. A word of advice, do not be in a hurry here. The food is made to order and comes out piping hot. That sort of thing takes time. It is well worth it. We had plantain chips with guacamole as a starter. We watched as the cut and fried the plantain. The guacamole was very good. The Honduran beer was cold and crisp. My companion chose the pupusas. They were delicious. The sauce, served on the side, was rich and flavorful. The rice was great, as were the fries. Crisp and delicious. I had the yuca. It was unique. The vinegar slaw topped with a creamy sauce was unusual and I really enjoyed it. The portions for both dishes were large. Both of us enjoyed our meal and are looking forward to trying other new dishes on our next visit. Next up, baleadas! read more

I adore this place. That's it. That's my review. That's all you need to know. Just kidding! No, really though, this place is great. The food is freaking amazing, the drinks are have-to-pace-yourself good, and the atmosphere is so much fun! I've tried several things on the menu and never had anything I wouldn't eat again. That being said, I do have favorites! The sweet plantains, the guacamole (THE GUACAMOLE!!), and the coconut rice (called Casamiento, it's rice with coconut milk and seasoning) are all things I could probably eat every meal for the rest of my life and not get sick of. So. Good. There's also a sunset drink that I have to remind myself of how much rum it has in it because you can't taste it and I'd just keep drinking! It's also worth mentioning that they have vegan and vegetarian options marked on the menus and it's pretty easy to avoid gluten too, if your diet calls for it. The servers are pretty knowledgeable and will always go ask the kitchen if you have questions! The only negative I can say about this place is that the service is always slow. This is not a quick in and out spot but the food makes up for it:) Go. Just go! You will not regret it! read more

As we entered we spotted a great plate of food going out to a customer. We found out it was the Mami Monchita's family sampler. We got & , awesome. Great flavor connections throughout dish with AMAZING SAVORY PLANTAINS. Then we ordered the Elote Loco. Good but I like more spice. My husband loved them though. The service was superb! Went again tonight and had to write another review! We shared two appetizers and, AND got dessert! We had the nachos and elote. Both were wonderful. The nachos smelled so good and fresh I hesitated for a sec before I ate it. The corn on the cob, elote, is what some people call street corn. As an appetizer one ear of corn (cut in half to share) is just right, but it is a bit expensive- over $5. The simple dessert was quite a surprise. Pineapple empanada - basically a pineapple fried pie kind of treat. I don't like pineapple but it was very yummy! The crust tasted more like a sugar cookie, where 'normal' empanadas I've had are like pie crust. A little bit of Honduras in Frankfort. The owner worked at Louisville's Havana Rumba for a number of years before she opened her own restaurant as an homage to her mother. Our waiter was kind enough to brings us a platter of fried plantains with a delicious guacamole to start. I had the Pupusas Mixta -- two corn based patties stuffed with a savory filling of chicharron and quesillo (Honduran cheese). On the side was a pickled onion and carrot mixture to top the Pupusas and a cabbage slaw. Only $6.99 off the lunch menu. Very Bueno indeed! read more

I ate Mami Monchita's for the first time tonight, and I think I might have just eaten the best meal I've ever had the pleasure of eating. I ordered the fillet mignon skewered with green peppers & onions. It comes with a few fried plantains, a scoop of some really nice rice, and a bowl of refried beans that were better than any refried beans I've ever tasted. For starters, the meat is marinated in the most delightful way. It is simply a masterpiece of marinated meat. I opted to try the "house hot sauce" which cost 50 cents extra, and it was simply incredible. I'm not even a huge fan of hot spicy foods, but that house hot sauce is amazing. The house hot sauce is made of puréed green chili's, and some other peppers, and it's set in a cream base. It's hard to describe how fresh and delicious that sauce is. Please do yourself a favor and order the house hot sauce when you eat here. I ordered my food as take out, and it did not take long at all for them to prepare it for me. There are really just not enough words for me to describe how fantastic this place is. You will not regret trying this place. It is now my all time favorite place to eat. This was my first taste of Honduran food, not to be confused with Mexican food. Although there are a few similarities between the two cuisines, don't think that it's a chips and salsa kind of place here. It's location is a bit weird, in the middle of a neighborhood area. When we pulled into the parking lot and noticed it was full, we knew we were in the right place. It's only been open since December, but it has quickly turned into a Yelp favorite. The menu is quite large. The drinks are made from fresh ingredients and the tortillas are handmade... at least that's what our amazing waitress, Jackie indicated. I was tempted to go with the club sandwich, but I decided to branch out a bit and went with the Mami Monchita's Nachos. I'm usually not a fan of shredded chicken, but most of the entrees on the menu listed shredded chicken as a highlight. I liked their version of shredded chicken, but my husband wasn't a fan. He said that his taco de pollos were stuffed with a lot of shredded chicken, but he thought they were bland as were the tacos overall. To each his own, right? So, if you like spicy don't go with the tacos de pollos. read more
