Two thumbs up!!!! Customer service is great and the empanadas are amazing!! Every bite will have you saying to yourself " these are so delicious" . The owner is very friendly and makes sure you're well taken care of. He gives you every sauce which is homemade and perfects the empanada. It's a must to try the green sauce mixed with the white sauce... it's absolutely the best sauces I've ever tried. My stay here in Waikiki consisted of me going to get empanadas twice. You can even text or call to place your order and he will text you ahead of time letting you know your order will be ready soon. I highly recommend you to try it. I was skeptical at first. The truck was located in a somewhat sketchy looking alley with just 3 customers. This place has 4.5 stars on yelp!? How can an empanada be so good....oh boy I was wrong. It defies logic, but those little empanadas are better than most things you will ever try. What makes it so great are not only the excellent empanadas but the excellent sauces. Everything I had was packed with flavor and not covered in grease. The truck operator was extremely accommodating and made my experience feel personal. The 3 people around me agreed that everything was exceptional. My two friends passed on the empanadas and opted for pizza....their loss. read more

Hidden gem on the edge of Waikiki Beach. While taking a walk looking for local, cheaper food than offered by the restaurants that cater to tourists, we came across Alex's food truck. Mami's Empanadas may not be your typical local Hawaiian fare, but rest assured, it is a treat! The food is very reasonably priced also, helpful for the ever dwindling vacation wallet. The menu changes daily based on what is fresh. Everything is freshly made, even the Cuban bread for the Cuban sandwich and the sauces. Food comes out hot and crisp and full of flavor. Food is absolutely amazing! Alex catered for a Cuban themed birthday party for 40 guests and he was so easy to work with. With a few quick texts I had my order placed and he checked in prior to the event to confirm and adjust the quantities of food. He mad it sooo easy. Loved the Ropa Vieja and Cubano Empanada the best... but all of my guests raved about every food and how excellent it all was. Stopped here for a snack after a few hours on the beach. It's hidden away, but definitely awesome. We tried the 4 empanadas for $10: cheese lovers, Pastillo PR beef, sofritos chicken and potato. I don't even know where to start. Every flavor of empanada I tried was better than the last, and the arepa was amazing! Super friendly and helpful staff, great food, and an awesome location if you want to take your food and eat it on the beach! Two minor things of note: they don't give a ton of dipping sauce, but I have a feeling you could get more if you ask for it. And the hours posted here are not 100% accurate. He was telling me that if they sell out or have a catering gig, they change, so call ahead. read more

Definitely worth trying. Not many places to get empanadas. These were delicious. We had the sausage, egg and cheese, beef and potato and shrimp and avocado. All were really tasty. We also tried arepo (not sure if I spelled correctly). It was a cilantro and jalapeño and it was like crispy bread with cheese on top. Price was reasonable. The sauces given were really good. I've never had empanadas before, but I don't think any that I will have, will ever top these! I had the pineapple one (seriously, have the pineapple one - it is amazing!!) and potato (which is also great, but pineapple wins). The hot sauce was delicious. Also try the sugar cane drink - not too sweet, and fits perfectly with the food. Luis, the owner, was really friendly and hung out with us afterwards, making us feel at home. He has a great life story! For the food, the atmosphere and the new-found friend, I will definitely be back! read more

Wow - absolutely incredible food but unfortunately the day we went the man who took and cooked our order wasn't very full of 'Aloha' :( we asked him questions about the menu and he wouldn't answer them well. He seemed bored, and bothered by our business. We waited about twenty minutes for our food as it is cooked fresh... it is definitely worth the wait! This place is hidden behind a hotel in an alley. The empandas are fine, but a bit greasy for my taste. I preferred the arepas even if they are a bit different than I am used to (he puts the cheese on top and I have only had them with the cheese inside). The sauce though is amazing. Wow, so glad we happened across Mami's Empanadas!! The cubano is fresh and made well. The empanadas are flavorful and air fried so they are perfectly crispy and stuffed with all sorts of good stuff. The arepa is really good too, white corn with cheese was tasty and perfect for picky little eaters! We finished the meal out with a guava empanada, again, excellent. And a freshly made strawberry horchata to wash it all down. I love that they change up the menu, only serving the freshest food and the best favors. We can't wait to return and also try their hardstand building on Bishop St, we are looking forward to trying the Colombian tamales when he makes them again!! read more

When my husband has to travel to Oahu for work I always join him. We prefer to seek out unique dining experiences that are less touristy than the average Waikiki restaurant. On a trip here three years ago we sought out this food truck but it never appeared to be open. We scored last night! While we were strolling around we saw Alex (the chef) who was in the process of opening up for the night. He told us to come back in 20 minutes and we did. He was friendly and told us there would be about a 25 minute wait for our food. Although a picnic table is available to dine at we chose to get our food to go as we were staying across the street at the Marriott. We ordered an assorted of empanadas which included beef and potato, pepperoni pizza, bacon cheeseburger, chicken sofrito and samosa. He carefully packed our meal and labeled the containers. He included four sauces that he also makes himself and explained they were all mild expect for one. Each of the empanadas was equally delicious with my favorite being the samosa. While not needed, the sauces really merit trying. They were fantastic! We have another week here and I am hoping we get the chance to have one more meal at this place. read more
