I've been a customer for decades! And I've had it with their rude unprofessional service! Two years ago I had a pizza delivered. I asked the delivery guy how much? I thought he said 13$ so I gave him 18$ a 5$ tip. The driver then sent me a text later implying I didn't leave a good enough tip. The only thing I could think of is that maybe I kiss heard him when I though he said 13$ but how rude to text me and complain about a tip when I tipped him 5 on what I thought was 13. If you're depending on pizza tips maybe Re-evaluate your career choice. I called to let the pizza place know how rude and unprofessional the driver was. They responded with yeah he does that. Wow ok!!! Fast forward to today! I called ahead to place a pick up order. I get to the shop and the cashier tells me that the credit card machines are down. He tells me this as he has already handed me the pizza. HE tells me I can walk a few blocks, mind you in the snow, to go to an atm. I get it these things happen. But as I was hesitant because I don't want to walk in the snow, he rips the box out of my hand and was just so rude. If your credit card machine has been down all day maybe tell your customers who call and pre order that so they can stop at an ATM on the way! They are beyond rude at this establishment. There are other places that are much nicer to their customers. Try Leone's, they only take cash but have an ATM inside. Or try Alfredo's read more

The pizza here is awesome, always super hot when I pick it up, and absolutely delicious. Also, the people that work here are always super nice, and welcoming, reminds me of back home in Philadelphia. Best takeout pizza in Somerville. There's nothing like a cheese pizza from Mamma Lisa's... unless it's a pepperoni pizza from Mamma Lisa's. Their Italian subs are abso-friggin'-lutely bomb as well. I'm from CT and grew up on Dominic and Pia's in Waterbury, and when lucky enough to score a slice, Sally's and Pepe's in New Haven. Those make for some high slice-standards. I like the plain cheese pizza the best, or maybe pepperoni, the one we got covered in all my boyfriend's favorite types of meat wasn't bad - a tad too greasy for my stomach to handle much of... but good. Okay, so... I like all of the pizzas I have had from here. I have to say that I like the delivery driver the best out of all the things I like out of Mama Lisa's... or maybe the fact that I ordered a cheese pizza and then got two toppings split on different sides and the guy who answered the phone was like "...hun, that ain't no cheese pizza anymore... why don't we start ovah?" It's wickedly cheap to order from here - I know, cause we live a few blocks away and when I'm stupidly lazy after work, I order a pizza and an order of mozzarella sticks, and call it a day. All of these foods taste great cold, the next day, for your hangover, or your disinterest in making real breakfast/lunch. Stopped in for a few slices of 'roni. Normally I go up the road to Pini's but since I just had them the other night and I like to change it up, I checked out Lisa's since I heard good things. The slices were probably the greasiest things I've ever had (and I'll probably regret later) however they were good. The dough was fresh and the sauce and other ingredients were quality, which makes a big difference (this is why a Papa Gino's pizza will always suck, because they use substandard frozen McPizza ingredients). The day that glossy trifold menu was unceremoniously shoved through the handle of my storm door by some lumbering dude driving a rusted out 1988 Corolla with a pizza sign half-cocked on top....well, that day, my friends, turned out to be one of the best days of my life. Medford/Somerville Winter Hill lacks in the "good take-out" section (in my oh-so-humble opinion) - however, Mamma Lisa's is a shining beacon of light for Sunday football games, late-night "i'm so drunk if I don't eat eleven slices of pizza I will puke" delivery, or just about any other occasion that calls for pizza (which occasion DOESN'T call for pizza??) Try the White Roman or the plain cheese. Also amazing is ordering the tomatos, spinach and fresh garlic (my favorite combo) pizza. Never disappointed by the pizza here. I ordered a hawiian with bacon. It arrived within the stated 30mins and was still warm. The pizza its self wasnt great. The sauce is bland, crust is basic pizza dough, kinda thin and not crisp...the toppings were plentiful but just not quality...the cheese was greasy, cheap, cheese and the bacon was all fat...and it wasnt even crisp...raw pieces of fatty bacon is just gross. Ordered my first pizza from here. Large roni. it is italian style pizza with true home made features. The dough has that true italian bland flavor and is chewy. The sauce is out of this world. i think it had an actual chunk of tomato in it! The bad was the grease. Mamma Lisa's has the best pizza in Somerville. Great quality toppings with a great sauce It's convenient just to drop in on the Broadway shop, but I usually do a phone order. I decided to try Mamma Lisa's because of a friend's positive Yelp review. My roommate is a pizza connoisseur and is always searching for the best place around. We had already found a place we liked a lot, but opted to give another restaurant a go anyway. First off, we live 10 minutes away from this restaurant and they wouldn't deliver to us because we live in Cambridge. We live in East Cambridge, practically on the Somerville line and my roommate had to go pick up our order. He got there in 6 minutes by the way. I suppose I can forgive the delivery issue, but it goes beyond that... Then when he got home with the pizza and we opened the box, it looked terrible. We got a large pizza half spinach, half pepperoni and green pepper. The spinach was obviously frozen, but tasted okay. The pepperoni looked pretty good and tasted as such (but how can pepperoni really taste bad?). The green peppers looked bad and tasted completely sour, thus ruining nearly half the pizza for my roommates and myself. We also ordered mozzarella sticks that completely fell apart on the way home. They tasted pretty decent and were coated with something special (maybe some extra herbs or something of that nature). Other than having to dissect a massive pile of cheese and bread coating, we were satisfied. All-in-all this place was a bust when it comes to pizza. I might try them again if I'm in my friend's neighborhood, as he raved about their meatball sub, but I won't be going out of my way to give them my business. read more

The man who answered was extremely rude and said that they were closed although online it says they are open. This person acted as though they had never heard of "order numbers" for online service and told me I had the wrong number . I dropped by after some bizness on the hill Wow--this pizza tasted like pizza from the NorthEnd over 30 years back. Price was good, pizza was hot and the staff on a weekday (Wed.) were friendly. You can call it North End Pizza or Italian or New York Style (it's their slice--Mamma Lisa style) but it's go thin crunchy crust with doughy end, tangy tomato and the right amount of chees. Not bad at all. I lived right around the area for a while, and ate here fairly often. Their appetizers aren't great, so I'd avoid those. Their plates are... decent. I got the cheeseburger plate a few times, and it was pretty good. I would probably get one again if I were in the mood. I only got their pizza few times, but I liked it. The Buffalo Chicken pizza isn't spectacular, so I wouldn't go for that (pretty dry). I made one with green peppers, meatball, and mushroom, and it was quite good. Creating your own is likely a better option than going with their specials. I tried many of their subs, but nothing was particularly great. Everything was good, but nothing really stood out. I'd say their best is the straightforward meatball. I seem to remember their Italian being pretty decent, too. read more

I came here for the first time right after having moved to the area. I had no idea what to expect, but was starving...the place looked sketchy but I was so hungry I figured even if the pizza was mediocre it would hit the spot. Anyway, I couldn't believe how good the pizza was! I think it it's the tomato sauce in particular that makes it so amazing. This place is pretty much my standby when I don't feel like cooking (which is often). I should disclose I've never tried anything else here but the pizza, so can't speak for the subs. They deliver too which is a bonus, but you really have to go at least once in person to imbibe the old-school Somerville atmosphere for the full 'Mama Lisa's' experience. This place sucks! I've been going here my whole life, and I recently called to order a calzone. I asked if the total was under $20, the woman said yes, $16.50. When the delivery guy arrived he said the total was $21. I happily paid him, went inside my house and called just to confirm the price with them again and that's when the same woman on the phone became extremely rude and aggressive. She told me that the delivery fee was $3 since 2017 & asked if I had been living under a rock. I reminded her that she failed to mention that to me and lied about the total when asked the first time. She told me she doesn't need my business and that I should do myself a favor by not coming back. Happy to oblige. When her father used to run the business it was a wonderful place to be, but now that his daughter is in charge she will be running this place into the ground. Food sucks now & service too! Outstanding quality of all products on the menu. Their pizza and calzone dough is made fresh daily. Italian and American Cold cuts are sliced as needed. They listen to how you want your selection made and will make some items different than what is on their menu. Service is fast even in the busiest of times. Growing up in Connecticut, I'm a pretty tough critic when it comes to pizzas. Having Pepe's in New Haven and Little Rendezvous in Meriden as the gold standards, I wasn't sure how impressed I was going to be by Mamma Lisa's when my roommate recommended we get a couple pies from there the other night. I'm happy to admit I was wrong. This place impressed me, and it's the finest pizza I've had since moving to the area. We got a meatball and sausage pizza, as well as a plain cheese pizza, and both of them were excellent. The toppings on the meatball and sausage were plentiful and fresh, and the plentiful cheese piled on the other was definitely satisfying. I'd hope Mamma Lisa's would consider using Foodler or GrubHub, as I often prefer the convenience of ordering online to calling in an order (just to ensure that there's no miscommunication and to get my total right away), but I'd pick up the phone again to order from here. These pies definitely beat anything else I've tried, and I'm a customer who hopes to soon return. read more

Mamma Lisa's has been my favorite pizza joint in Somerville since roughly the late '80s. In a city full of above average pizza, Mamma's is a King among Kings. In addition to great pizza, they also have tremendous steak & cheese subs and delicious chicken parm calzones, among other things. Depending on the type of pizza you prefer, this place is hands down the best pizza in Somerville. I've been a long life Pizza addict . I tried out quite a few places before finding this place. Honestly, I was shocked that this place had such great pizza. The outside was run down and looked to me like a place that would have cheap grade, little league event type pizza. That was very wrong. The cheese and ingredients are high quality. This is a thin crust, oily style pizza. It's similar to papa gino's style, thin oily, soft bread but slightly more upscale and more dependable. (Pizza rarely shows up burnt, the out comes are more consistent etc.) This is a mom and pop type shop. They won some sort of best of somerville, (or boston) awards every year for the last decade or so. They definitely deserve it. Born and raised in Somerville. Grew up loving Mama Lisa's. The pizza crust is one of my favorite, and I remember the pizza's being full of cheese and it was messy but oh so good. Not so much anymore....and that's ok it's still a good pizza. BUT my small issue is when I went to order a pizza and wanted to put it on my card. I was told that there is an extra charge of between 5 and 7% on the total. Then I was told it's not the pizza place adding it, it's the credit card company. Yes, it is the credit card company adding it...................to the business to use the service of allowing the credit cards to be used to purchase the food by the customers. Mama Lisa's charges the customer the extra so that it pads the price and they don't have to pay out of their sales for the use of a credit card purchase, the customer does. I use GrubHub all the time. My GrubHub food orders don't have an extra 5-7% added to the total because I used a credit card when I get my receipt. They are not on the GrubHub list of places to order food from.......now you know why. They would have to pay a fee for the use of the GrubHub app and any other charges that come with it and then they would pass it off to the customer. So by the time your done paying for a pizza and whatever else you order it's going to cost you more than $25.00+. It's too bad that they charge for that.....they really have good pizza, but I don't like getting the extra added and then lied to about it. :( read more

As someone with a very large number of extended family residing in New York the topic of Pizza superiority often comes up at family parties. That all ended when i made a trip down to the Big Apple to a family function with a few of Mama Lisa's calzones. It took minutes for word to spread about the delicious decadent crusty salty offering. As my cousins gathered around the open boxes it was a matter of seconds before they were trying to figure out what NY eatery had provided this tasty treat. It was with immense pride that i loudly announced that it had come all the way from the great city of Somerville.
