Representing 2025 for alphabet series, the runner-up to out of town pick for the letter M, going from Toronto to Olney, M is for Mamma Lucia. In December 2025, my girlfriend & I had a White Elephant holiday party my friend was hosting at lunchtime. It had been years since I went to a Mamma Lucia. I had been to the Hanover location in 2013 & Bethesda in 2016, so it had been almost 10 years since I went. I was never terribly impressed with Mamma Lucia. In 2013 I did a lunch buffet, which was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. In 2016, I had a date, and we split a pizza. Pizza was good, but again nothing to write home about. Olney location overall exceeded my more mediocre expectations. We were a separate large room from Gen Pop, which was nice. Servers were nice, but a couple times were a little slow but mostly did a good job. My girlfriend & I decided to split an entree as we had a BOGO deal only good that day we were going to do for dinner; so we didn't want to overeat. We got a seafood pasta, Seafood Asphargus, which includes some crab, shrimp, scallops, mushrooms on penne, which was excellent exceeding my expectations. The only thing was that it was a lunch sized smaller portion. We are thinking Italian are large portions. The server should've warned us, and she apologized for failing to mention this. The community bread for the table was outstanding too. Because splitting the lunch sized portion wasn't much food, we were pretty hungry at 4:30 and ultimately left our other event much earlier than anticipated, got our BOGO deal around 5 PM, and then came back over there since it was near our other event. We might've been eating dinner at 6 or 7 something if it had been splitting based on the dinner-sized portion. Overall, Mamma Lucia was more good than bad. There were close to 20 of us there. I saw some people hadn't seen in a while and met some nice people including another couple at our table, who became friends. As for the White Elephant, I did well getting an Elijah Craig Kentucky bourbon whiskey. We had a glass on new years. I enjoyed, my g/f didn't like; we doctored hers up to make better for her. I don't think that much at home; so 6 months later I still have half of it left. read more

This Place is Called Mamma Lucia's Italian Restaurant . This place is a place od Tradition , Culture, And more . This place has a huge parking area its next door to Giant , And other stores. As you enter in the have an outside porch before going in the two woods doors and small hallways to the place . As you enter in you see in the left side a huge barista area that serves drinks exotic drinks and Sodas and more. To having a somewhat concealed kitchen where they perform their magic to make your best foods you could ever want or ever find anywhere else. They have great menus here full of the best foods of your choosing. The hsve regular menus for eating there . They have paper ones or you can find their menus online in your cell phones . I love the pizzas and Speghetti and other dishes as well there . Their wine collections are certainly impressive. Tis place has the pool of traveling back to the Early 19th to 20th century. Filled with Culturecand Traditions and more. I applied there on ocassions with no word . I reapplied recently . I want a jib there to be a bridge for all worlds of every walk of life that comes there . I love customer service interactions to mak everyone fel welcomed , At Home , And feel like family there . To bring them back as full time patrons and have them have the greatest time possible . In this place you get become something much bigger than yourself to exoeriences another culture and more . This place has a huge three arwa of duning ti sit whther it fir regular ostrons or family parties . They have great winecselection racs too to make the place look lije traveling back to the late 29th to early 20th century. This place has a great crew there but management needs changing to give people like me and more a chance to work there make a difference and be a good asset to the Teams there . I want the job there without being feared , jusged abd used bad politics against .. This place has a great family and community oriented atmosphere to be at . This is one of kt favorite places to cone too . I hadn't been there since my last birthday . Today will be my second return back after 7 years . What happened during the Covid Pandemic was inexcusable unjustifiable Reprehensible unlawful and down right wrong. It should never be tolerated again in any place of Business. Since business is slow is because as Americans communities need to finda a way to bring back business in a big way to bring business back as it should and must be again as the patronage all once were and shuld be again. Been going to Mama Lucia for years! The biggest compliment I can give is CONSISTENCY!! Food: Quality portions and excellent taste. Okay, I tried again using too good to go and the customer service was great. I think my last review, which was not good, was the result of the staff having a bad day. The staff was quick to greet me and provide the service I experienced years ago. I will say that there was a guy and his son outside complaining to three people about his experience with the staff. While I had that experience weeks ago, that did not happen today. I am not sure what is going on with this iconic gem, but I hope it gets corrected quickly. Go and judge for yourself. This restaurant is an Italian American restaurant featuring classic dishes like lasagna, ravioli baked ziti, etc. I ate lunch here recently with 2 companions. I had the fried calamari appetizer and fettuccini Alfredo. The portions are huge big enough for two. The calamari was served with a lemon wedge and a marinara dipping sauce. Lightly fried and tender it is among the best fried calamari in the area. The Alfredo noodles were al dente and in a tasty cream sauce. The service was prompt and reasonably attentive, however, the were only a few diners present. The ambiance is that of a family style Italian eatery. I was taught to make Carbanara in the 70's by one of the leading chefs in Virginia and I have had Pasta Carbanara all around this country and world and this is in the top 5. Well the fries were good and the place has a calm warm atmosphere, but that's about it. They served a complimentary garlic bread and olive oil. Bread was not good at all. Our waitress had absolutely no interest in us despite being the only customers. I went to compliment her on the atmosphere and she walked away from me after I started talking. A man brought our food from kitchen. Very underwhelming. We got a meatball sub and an egg plant sub. Bread wasn't toasted, very little sauce and cheese The eggplant was rubbery little strips" similar to bananas. I only ate a couple bites. The owners nephew is a waiter and made a scene when after an hour our table hadn't been served fully. Had to ask for my glass of wine 4 times. My brother was brought the wrong beer twice. He finally brought me a glass of some random white wine ( I ordered a glass of red). Argued with my parents that after I hadn't been brought a glass of wine, that I poured a glass from the bottle they bought for them, that I had to the charged for that. I simply ask the manager to help him out. There were 7 tables being served. All had food. We had been there an hour, incomplete bar tab, zero food. He comes over to tell us that we disrespected him by complaining and because he was the owners nephew we were no longer welcome and couldn't come back. Not the owner, our teenaged waiter. We were there to celebrate my mom's birthday. We love this restaurant. We didn't ask for discounts or a comp. We just wanted good service. The manager was amazing. The other servers who helped out were top notch. The server who claimed to be the owners nephew? Caused a scene and lost repeat customers. My favorite thing about my experience at Mama Lucia was the bread and oil. Ordered a large pizza, half margarita and half hawaiian. The bread on the pizza was extremely thick, not enjoyable for me. Server was waiting tables at the other end of the restaurant so it was a challenge to get refills or ask for anything. This was not a great experience and food was mediocre. The reataurant was dimly lit, smelled a little funny, didn't look too clean. I don't think I'd give it a second chance. read more

I have been here multiple times. Food is tasty and fresh tasting. The basket of bread along with the oil, Parmesan and pepper flakes is always a hit. Once in a while, there have been some kitchen mix-ups, but everything seems to have been well managed. I had the Eggplant Rollatini recently and enjoyed this somewhat lighter take on Eggplant Parmesan. My only complaint was that the eggplant could have been fried a little lighter. Went here for dinner when we checked out the opening of smoothie king nearby. It was a nice day so we decided to sit outside, might not have been a good idea because flies kept going around us lol. Got the spaghetti and meatballs and loved it. Noodles was soft and flavor was just right. Also love the garlic bread that comes with the meal. My husband ordered a seafood pasta dish, he didn't like it as much. He said it needed more flavor. This was the first time at this restaurant, and heard good things so gave it a try. The chicken Alfredo pasta sauce was watery and had no flavor. The chicken in the chicken Parmesan was petrified and I couldn't chew it to break it down. Both dishes sent back and we said we didn't want anything else. The server said "I'm so sorry you didn't like our food" as he handed me the bill for $72. At the end he gave a free cannoli, which didn't offset the low quality of food. read more

Mamma Lucia of Olney truly delivers. Our server Kristel was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and full of helpful tips (like half-price wine on Wednesdays!). We started with their warm house bread and a flavorful olive oil dip with garlic and parmesan--so good. For dinner, we shared a bottle of wine and ordered the eggplant and chicken parmesan with pasta and salads. Everything was delicious and generously portioned--felt like a home-cooked meal straight from an Italian family kitchen. Too much to finish in one sitting, but Kristel packed up our leftovers and they made a great dinner the next night. We didn't save room for dessert, but we'll plan better next time. Got take out here for the first time (we live 4 minutes away so it was still fresh and warm). We ordered gf carbonara, chicken Alfredo, and fried mozzarella. The food was so plain. It needed so much salt (and I never put salt on my food). It has no flavor at all. The chicken was cooked to a rubbery texture. The fried mozzarella was 4 pieces for $15 with no marinara sauce for me to mask the tastelessness. I'm sad and disappointed but oh well. I learned! Will not be returning. read more

Never eat at this place. The management and the service workers are the worst people I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. They made my mom cry and treated her like she was less than them just because she is picking up for doordash and uber rather than for herself. When we ask the people to check on the order because of the ABSURD wait times, this girl will straight up not check, tell you it's not ready, and then proceed to give you the order that was sitting waiting the entire time after making you wait for the sake of waiting. seems to me like trying to abuse the only power she has over you. weird. today, my mother asked a seemingly new worker if the food was ready, without checking she said no, my mother asked her to check on the pizza's please and she started to go to the ovens to check. then the girl that we always have problems with then went up to the girl that was helping and whispered something in her ear, turned back to my mother and proceeded to ignore her. My mom told the girl she asked a question and was expecting an answer because that's basic respect and the rude girl tries to chime in. When my mother who is already frustrated by her repeated behavior tells her that she was not talking to her and was asking the helpful girl she proceeded to run to the manager. The manager came out and called my mother rude, demanded my mother cancel the order and threatened to have her kicked out. At the end of the day my mother is working, and asking questions about wait times. This repeated response of the restaurant is appalling and wrong and it's very clear they don't treat their sit down customers this way. The manager ended up cancelling the order and having my mother leave because he has no right to demand for her to cancel the order. i'm sorry because i actually really like some of the workers there and have such pleasant conversations, but this girl has such an air of entitlement around her and is such a bad representation of your brand. We ate for a celebratory dinner tonight and it's so fantastic the Mamma Lucia brand is consistent regardless of location. I have dined at other locations and the Olney location was clean and pristine, has great decor and the staff are professional and accommodating. Mikhael and Kristel treated us professionally and were pleasant. We had a large hand tossed pizza with banana peppers, tomatoes and spinach and it was flavorful and a great portion. Not the best Italian food but in a pinch it does the trick. Unfortunately, after a few experiences at this location, I am less than impressed with the service. I have experienced having a pizza delivered that seemed have gone sideways during the delivery process (all cheese ended up on one side). Most recently we went to pick up a quick pasta dinner from there early on a weekday night. We had ordered early around 5:30 which gave us us a 5:50 pickup time. We were starving so we were there right at the pickup time on the dot. Apparently they were having "printer issues" but our food would be ready in another 5 minutes and was "top priority". ONE HOUR of waiting by the register later we finally got our food. We watched people come in, place an order and have it ready before ours. We were met by an "I'm sorry" and they offered us a soda from the fridge. If they had actual adults managing rather than people with summer jobs, I don't think either scenario would have happened. I picked up pizza last week on Tuesday for their "Pizza Night" special (buy one get one for $5). We got a Mamma's special and a margherita pizza. They were busy but they have good customer service and took their time with each customer, rather than making you feel rushed. The Mamma's special was good like always. This was just okay, very mixed results. Bread was cold and comes with a oil spice blend. I didn't personally care for either, but still ate it, because who can not eat bread. No keto diet for me. I enjoyed the penne alla montese, which had large shrimp and crab meat in a pink sauce. The seafood and sauce had a good flavor. I thought the shrimp tails should have been removed because it's hard to remove them from a sauced dish. A little expensive at ~$25, but the best dish on the table. We ordered a large cheese pizza and I found it pretty bland. Crust was too thick and hard, not thin and crispy or soft and doughy. Sauce was either too sparse or under seasoned. Spaghetti with meatballs and meat sauce was decent. My younger daughter liked her kids mac and cheese, but my teen tasted it and didn't at all ‍ Server was friendly, but made a few mistakes. We saw a Facebook deal for a Thursday special where you buy a chicken parmigiana or eggplant parmigiana entree and get the second one for $8. We decided to get this deal as carryout. It turns out the first entree cost $23 for chicken parmigiana and only consisted of one small piece of chicken. This ended up being an expensive purchase, which is cheaper at other Italian places like Squisito for $15. The total with the second entree was $33 including tax and surplus charge. The pasta and chicken were not flavorful. So disappointing. read more

The ambiance is cool. There's options to sit inside or outside when the weather is nice. It's a neighborhood staple and due to limited options it's one of the few places you can order a quick Italian meal. Tonight I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was okay. Not very flavorful.
