I've enjoyed coming here, usually at happy hour over the past 4 or 5 years. Mostly I sit at the bar and usually get a very nice Asian bartender. Drinks are good, nice portion. Recently ordered an eggplant parmigiana - it came within 10 minutes with pasta. It was one of the worst eggplant dishes I've ever had (normally love this dish). It was overcooked, it stuck to the bottom on the plate, and tasting like mush - and the sauce tasted burnt. I ended up just putting the food in a to go container and left. When I got home, you couldn't even discern the eggplant from the spaghetti - it went into the trash. For $22, this was a waist of money. I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. Unfortunately, that was my last time. BTW, they had a band playing in the dinning room - VERY loud, and the music wasn't good at all. I can't imagine how the patrons in that room had any kind of conversation - it was blaring at the bar. STAY AWAY! ONE more thing. The last time I came, it was dark out and the stairs are a bit dangerous - I missed the last stair and fell flat on my face - I didn't report it, just moved on. This time I looked at the stairs and they NEED to add railings to both sets of stairs - a long paved ramp on the side set would be a good idea, there are gaps in the bricks, really bad trip hazards, etc. read more

Don't support these people. What this restaurant has turned into is nothing short of a tragedy. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for over a decade so we're well versed in what it's supposed to be. The original owner was an older Italian man who no longer owns the place. I wasn't as big of a fan when it came to the food, but would definitely come back in case I ordered the wrong dishes. We had the Veal Marsala and the Zuppa Di Pesce Pasta. The Veal Marsala was tougher to cut, but still tender when you ate it. The mushrooms and the side of tomato-based spaghetti were average. Twenty years ago it used to be a fancy restaurant with amazing and decadent food choices. Portions were generous, and served with grace. Overall, experience was as if you visited high end place with very good chef. Recently visited restaurant for official event. One thing I can say about my dish - it was not over-salted. This is the only compliment I can come up with. Dishes were served by really tossing them on the table without a care as if serving to pigs. Nobody was interested in my preferences and salad was ruined with oil and sugar on top of it so it was not edible. Bread was unpleasant looking and was whisked away after 5 minutes, so we would not eat much of it. Portions were small and temperatures on the plate were funny: meat was scalding hot and rice was cold. Everything except for a tiny bit of steamed vegetables was drenched in oils. The only healthy and tasty part of the meal was this tiny bit of steamed vegetables. Dessert was again thrown at us. My slice of cake was missing whipped cream and almost slid off the plate when a waitress threw it in front of me with plate landing crookedly on my fork and knife and napkin. This horrible attitude I found very unusual for restaurant. Not a single time anyone came to ask if I would like more coffee or anything. One time I asked a waiter for coffee, he put his hand on my shoulder and intimately leaned into me. I found this inappropriate and patronizing. This restaurant's hygiene is absolutely shocking! Finding a bug in my salad was already disgusting, but what's even worse--I found a large fingernail in my creamy pasta. This is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about food safety. When we brought this issue to the manager's attention, their attitude was terrible. Instead of handling the situation professionally, they were dismissive and showed no genuine concern. No sincere apology, no proper resolution--just a complete lack of responsibility. Food and services are horrible Been to several dinners there and as much as we complain things are never been corrected. Last Saturday we attended the wedding and dinner was served very late cuz they were not ready. Asked for coffee several times and it finally serve after 30 minutes and was too late. We ate the sweets already. Manager is rude and no manners at all. Was telling me the desert brought is not good . When you allow to bring deserts outside, you got no saying what kind of deserts to serve. Not your choice and the bride ordered it. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Buyer Beware The online website menu prices are not true. We called the restaurant for our take out order and the prices did not match. We were told that the prices on the website were old. We asked for red sauce tortellini with chicken and they charged us an extra $8 for the chicken even though the price on website included it and gave us the wrong sauce Alfredo. We went with friends to see a 70's cover band on 4/20/2024. It was very busy, friends did get a table in the bar section. My wife had the tortellini with alfredo sauce. It was delicious, pasta cooked perfectly and sauce was very tasty. I had spaghetti with marinara sauce and meatballs. Pasta cooked perfectly. Sauce was tasty. Meatballs were homemade! I originally went to a Thst's Amore restaurant location about 15 years ago in Columbia that has since closed down. The meals were good back then. It has been off my radar since then and until I just came across this Rockville location so I decided to give it a try. That's Amore's interior is old school and could be your grandfather's restaurant. It could use some sprucing up. i came here with my parents and husband on a thursday evening and it was surprisingly empty...only a few occupied tables in our section and a few customers at the bar. our waiter was very friendly and prompt and took our drink orders right away, followed by appetizers, and entrees. he came and checked on us several times throughout the meal. we ordered the following to share: +brussel sprouts: these were cut in half, tossed with glazed balsamic vinegar, cilantro and parsley. i love brussel sprouts, but these were amazing, some sweet and salty seasonings, roasted for a long time, to have that added crunch. could not put these down! +stuffed mushrooms: fresh mushrooms, with a blend of vegetables and italian cheeses. this was delightful not too heavy, with a wonderful marriage of flavors inside. they also gave us a basket of warm focaccia bread which we dipped into olive oil...or in my case, into my salad dressing. for our main, mom and i shared the spring mixed green salad: tomato, cucumber, red onion, olives, carrots, peppers, topped with their catch of the day, rockfish. they actually split this onto two plates for us. the salad was not super fresh, some of the veggies were a little soft, but the fish was excellent, grilled and seasoned well. my husband ordered the spaghetti bolognese, and dad ordered the flat iron steak with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. both enjoyed their entrees with some leftovers as well. unfortunately this table had a wobbly leg, and we felt the effects of that throughout the meal. our waiter tried to rectify this situation, but the table was still a bit wobbly...we kinda gave up after a few minutes and made the best of our situation. restrooms were clean, with multiple stalls, but i could tell they were old, esp the locks on the doors, probably need replacing. still one of my family's favourite go to restaurants, we'll definitely be back again in the future! read more

We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday with a party of 10. Food: 4/5 We ordered 4 family pasta dishes and they were very generous portions, we had leftovers at the end. We got: 2 orders of spaghetti bolognese with meatballs, chicken parm, and gnocchi a la pesto. The bolognese didn't have much sauce so it was a bit dry. The sauce was very good though, the beef meatballs were very tender as well. I would get the meatballs again. The chicken parm and gnocchi were pretty good, nothing stood out though. Chicken parm pasta was good with generous amounts of marinara sauce. Complimentary Focaccia: great tomato foccacia, but they didn't give us enough bread for our party of 10. We asked for more bread, but they said we would need to pay for more foccacia :( Tiramisu: very expensive for the small portions, wouldn't get this again. The tiramisu came out warm :( it tasted good, but wasn't worth the price. The ONLY reason to go to That's Amore is for the live music! The service is beyond awful. The food is decent...if it comes out at all, and if it doesn't get to the table cold. Never expect the Eggplant Parmesan to be hot the first time. Never expect all your orders to come at the same time. Rarely do you get utensils before your meal is placed in front of you...last night one at our table didn't get them for ten minutes. Why only one, you ask? Because the rest of us still hadn't gotten our meals 10 minutes after the first one was delivered. Occasionally, you can expect to get the bread before dinner. Last night it came after all the plates had been cleared...and the oil and Parmesan cheese never came. Speaking of Parmesan...when was the last time you went to an Italian restaurant and they didn't offer to put Parmesan on your pasta? Never? If you don't like it on your pasta...come to That's Amore. If you want a glass of wine with your meal, you're better off going to the bar and getting it yourself. The ONLY thing that came promptly was the bill. But check it...I ordered an appetizer with 2 pieces of meat. They brought me three pieces, and charged me for four. I left one there, and paid for only the two that I had ordered and eaten. BUT the bill did come promptly, and credit cards were processed promptly, so we know what's important to them. Oh, and not once, when everything was going wrong, did anyone use the term "I'm sorry" or "Please forgive us" with any explanation. Not once. The art of manners is obviously not taught here. My review: This is reminiscent of a Seinfeld episode. On Saturday evening, January 27th, my lady friend and I invited some friends to join us in the bar area to share in her birthday celebration (of a couple days earlier). The bar area had some live music we enjoy so we had some friends join us. My lady friend is a pastry chef of some repute so we brought in a cake. We do this on occasion at venues in the Gaithersburg area and have never had trouble. That being said, we do understand some venues don't allow you to bring in food. However, when we arrived before 7 pm the bar manager did not tell us we could not have the cake there. She did not seem bothered at all. In fact, through the course of the night we shared a handful of (large) cookies with their staff. At the outset, she asked if I would be paying for everyone's drinks. I told her that we would only be paying for our own. Each individual would pay for their own drinks, as well. As the evening was progressing, a number of friends showed up. Some arrived around 9 pm. Throughout, at least a half dozen friends had created their own checks. The late arrivals didn't even have a chance to order before the fireworks went off. One had an appetizer and soft drink. Others had beer and wine. We had a $20 tab ourselves. We were planning on getting another drink or two. Suddenly, at about 9:10, just after we sang Happy Birthday, the server comes up to us and says the owner wants to charge $2.50 per person (or $37.50) because we said we expected 15 people. I guess he didn't think we were spending enough money, although other people in our party were paying their own way. I asked why the server didn't tell us this from the beginning. I knew why. The venue had hired the band and they were losing money. I'm not sure what they pay ($700-$800), but the bar was not at all crowded, many fewer people than I've seen before. (I dine there or go to the bar area monthly, on average). The owner figured he'd try and recoup some of his lost money at our expense. I told him I wasn't paying the fee because he was trying to take advantage of us. He threatened to call the police. I told him to go ahead. We were leaving, anyway. He called me cheap. I also added that I was a regular customer there, but not anymore. Not only was he not getting the additional $37.50, but he just lost a customer who frequented his restaurant regularly. I was there last night, 10/20/24, to celebrate my 50th Birthday. My family traveled from Boston and Florida to spend it with me and my family. The major issue, serious issue, was that our server, older hispanic gentlemen, was drunk. Seemed like he was the only adult running the show along with younger staff. Food was slow, did not come by our table but every 20 minutes. This guy forgot drinks we ordered.cThe Alcohol was definitely a factor in his lack of performance. Also, there were only 3 tables out of the whole restaurant that was occupied. Now, the food was good but the drunk server ruined the experience. To top it off, he gave us the check and knocked my wife's water over, spilled on her phone and on her. The server was so out of it that he just walked away, did not clean up the water, nothing. I don't even know where to begin. We've been to TA a dozen or so times over the years but I think it's time for them to call it a wrap on this old, tired place. We ordered takeout via GrubHub (which was delivered promptly). Here's what we Chicken Vesuvio, which used to be home run. The $40+ family style portion was three small pieces of chicken and the equivalent of one large potato. The chicken was bland as could be. Lasagna which was ok. A salad which had soggy/old looking cucumbers in it and they forgot the dressing we ordered. The focaccia bread was the highlight of the entrees. The desserts sucked too. I came here on a Wednesday evening for a company dinner. My coworker had setup the party for us with the restaurant. Service was painfully slow... we had repeat our drink orders multiple times as our drinks did not come out after 10, 20, 30 minutes -_- The food was average, nothing really stuck out... the terrible customer service really overshadowed the meal itself. - Bruschetta - This comes with diced tomato, fresh basil and garlic on toasted Italian bread. The bread was overly toasted.... - Insalata Caprese - This comes with sliced tomatoes, sliced mozzarella cheese, fresh basil all topped with balsamic vinaigrette and olive oil. This was average... not terrible and not amazing. - Chicken Marsala - This comes with chicken, mushrooms and marsala wine sauce. The mushrooms were soaked in this bitter, watery sauce. This chicken was well cooked, but the sauce ruined this dish. - Shrimp Scampi - This comes with jumbo shrimp in a lemon garlic sauce served over linguine. The shrimp were average sized and the sauce was better than the other entree. This was the best dish I had here, but it definitely was not as good as Shrimp Scampi I have had at other restaurants. - Cheesecake - You can't really mess up cheesecake, dessert was good and the sliced strawberries on the plate were a nice touch. At the end of the meal, we were informed that we would be charged for an additional TEN guests that had not shown up. My coworker had called the manager a week in advance to let him know the number of guests had changed and the manager had confirmed that this was fine. When my coworker spoke to the manager he had no recollection of this.... it was all very unprofessional, shady and condescending. My coworker did not want to stand there and argue, we paid the bill and vowed to never return to this restaurant. There are too many other restaurants in the area that would conduct themselves honestly than to waste our business here. I would never recommend That's Amore for business, personal... ANYTHING! The hubby, BP, purchased a Groupon for That's Amore and we decided to use it that very night. I was unsure about going, but was seriously impressed and happy we went. The experience was delightful! Our waitress, Iris, was super attentive and caring of our dining experience. She was so unbelievably generous with refilling our bread basket, which was amazing. The bread has a nice crunchy crust, but the inside was very chewy and soft. Each table had its own bottle of olive oil, pepper grinder, and a jar of grated Parmesan cheese. Iris used these to make a dipping sauce for the bread that made everything even tastier. BP decided to order the baked stuffed mushrooms as our appetizer. The mushroom were still juicy and very flavorful. The cheese added a rice crisp to the texture. They were a bit smaller than we thought they'd be, but there was a nice number of mushroom in the serving and stayed pipping hot while we ate them. My rigatoni was was very similar to BP's Bolognese lasagna because of the spices, cheeses, and meat sauce used. They were both exceptionally rich and flavorful, but quite salty :) For dessert we decided on the Zuccotto because of the chocolate mousse and the raspberry sauce as garnish. The cake was unlike anything I have ever had. It was really soft cake and the raspberry sauce packed a tart punch against the chocolate mouse. I don't recall tasting the hazelnut though. I loved how another staff member kept our glasses filled and was kind enough to keep taking our empty dishes off the table. Another busser even took the check after BP placed his card and wished us a good night! We did not feel at all abandoned or ignored. The food also didn't take too long to arrive.
