Food was okay not much taste. Price very high for the little piece of Lasagna I ordered. My bread that they give you was cold, burnt and harder than a crouton. Maybe how the bread is supposed to be I don't know. It was my first time there. If I go back it will be just to try the chicken Alfredo. I forgot to mention that the house salad was horrible. The dressing was just red vinegar. It was 99% lettuce a half of a cherry tomato, one sliver of green bell pepper and an end piece of cucumber the diameter of a nickel. Guys, this is probably one of the best pizza slice I ever had in my entire life. Honestly, the first bite took me back to Italy. It was the perfect amount of everything the crust was delectable. The sauce was perfectly seasoned cooked to perfection. The ingredients also taste like great quality especially the cheese & olive oil. honestly taste like a pizza in Italy. it's honestly that good I've been to pizza places where the marinara is too sweet or the crust is too thick and processed. honestly, this is real pizza real food & the customer service is excellent which is the cherry on top. They address me right when I walked in the door and it wasn't too busy and very fast and efficient. The prices were reasonable to. Extremely disappointing for a restaurant that claims to use "fresh" ingredients!!! The Mama Lucia in Olney has a couple of problems but the biggest is using canned mushrooms on its pizza when they claim to use fresh ingredients. The pizza did not have adequate toppings except for the very salty and tasteless canned mushrooms. Another problem is what they call a "surplus" charge (they obviously don't know what the word surplus means!). When questioned about this 2% surcharge, it was explained that it was created because of the pandemic and the supply chain problems. Obviously, they haven't heard the news that the pandemic is officially over and the supply chain issues have abated. Not to worry, this will only add 2% to an over-priced pizza that lacks flavor and sufficient fresh ingredients. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and the service was good during this slow period. I don't know how their service compares during a busy time for the restaurant. read more

First, I'd like to note that this place was very busy. Not sure if this had anything to do with things but it really shouldn't. Our server was a nice young girl, very polite but not really helpful with suggestions. IDK if she was new or if she just doesn't eat there or maybe she only eats specific things, none of which were things we were asking which was pretty much all over the menu. But some ppl like what they like and don't try new things. She took our order accurately and made sure it came out in a timely fashion, for the most part. I had wings (of course, hi, my name is Rob, pleased to meet you) but told her not to hold off on the other food b\umtil they came out, just bring the food out when it's ready. Well, she must have been waiting for my wings bc when they hit the table, they were so hot, I thought they came right out the oven;so they had to sit for a bit. They were very,very good though. I had them in being bang sauce which was a little spicy but that spice was elevated by the temperature of the chicken. They were nice size pieces though. Shortly after that, our main course came out. At this point I only ate one wing but I want complaining at all. The food looked really good. Both of our plates. However, the food didn't have a whole lot of flavor but everything tasted fresh. Low on salt, which is good, but also low in flavor in general. The biggest problem was how the plates looked and felt. They looked dirty and felt dirty to the touch. I couldn't tell if the plates were made put of pumice stone or what but it felt prickly when I rubbed my hand over it but I was hungry and tired so I took a few bites and had it to go. Rubbing my hand over the plates didn't remove anything so either that was the style of the plates or the dirt was now baked into the material so it wasn't moving and likely sanitized and ok to eat off. At the end of our meal, we final;y received our salads that should've been the first thing out but I didn't really care bc I didn't want it anyway. I was happy to put the food in the tin container and out of the plate. Pros: Waiter had nice personality. Food smelled fresh. Food tasted fresh. Bread was good. Seating was fast although they were packed (luckily there were only 2 of us and the other parties were 4 or more). Con: Food had little flavor (other than original flavor of the seafood). Food is barely OK, I have been going here since the opened about 20 years ago. The owner, Jimmy actually cared about the food. The portions are significantly smaller and the prices have gotten crazy, $24 for a slice of lasagna, the Pizza is greasy and twice the price of every pizza place in the area with minimal toppings. The counter girl and manager were rude, it was like the McDonalds of Italian food. They said they would no longer accept their own gift cards on Monday or Tuesdays because they run specials on those days even though the gift cards are not discounted! Their pizza is the best, we got the chicken parm but it was just ok, the sauce is not very flavorful, we also got the seafood asparagus penne dish and same, the sauce needed a little salt of something to give it more flavor. This is the epitome of a family restaurant. Open areas, big tables, nice bar area and friendly staff. Whether or not there is a wait is a total crap shoot. On nights when you think it's going to be packed, it's empty. On nights when the whole area is shuttered in, it's SRO. You may want to call ahead...just sayin'. Anyway, I've eaten at this ML's a dozen times and as this chain goes, this is certainly the best one. It's always clean and the food comes out at a predictable and acceptable rate. The wait staff tend to be on the young side, but they appear well trained and get the job done. Last night, I went with the Veal Della Baia (of the bay). It's described as "medallions topped with crabmeat and melted mozzarella cheese in cream sauce and served over fettuccine." Sounds awesome, right? Well, it was pretty good. The first, and most obvious, problem was that there may have been two microscopic pieces of crab in there. That was a problem. The second problem is the dish itself. If you think about cream sauces you know there's going to be butter in there. Then you add mozzarella and you've got more oil pouring out of it when it melts. When you start to approach the bottom of the dish, your fettuccine is wallowing in a pool of oil. It was kid of a slog to finish it off. The upsides were that the amount of veal was substantial and the cream sauce itself was very pleasant. The veal was a little over cooked, but that is so common in the DMV that you just come to expect it (btw, if you're looking for flawlessly cooked veal, go to Pasta Plus in Laurel). The fettuccine was nicely cooked, but I'm not an al dente fan so this is simply my preference. Its consistency and flavor were nice too. My youngest had the meatballs which I tasted and I thought they were a little heavy on filler, but all told pretty tasty. My missus, had the Veal Di Mamma's which looked pretty good and that she said she liked. I wasn't offered a sample so that's a good sign for this dish. If you want a nice meal with the family or friends that won't break the bank (cough-cough-Grill MarX) then this is a great place to try. The menu is huge so you're sure to find something that tickles your fancy (they have new gluten-free options on their menu now too so you gluten-sensitive or celiac'ers can join the party). Our family has never been the biggest fans of Mamma Lucia but our carry out meal tonight really cemented that. Garlic knots were old - they have them premade and stacked in tins. They're tough, cold, and chewy. Cold cut sub tasted of nothing but red onions, and the sub roll was so crusty and tough that I was tugging at each bite. Spaghetti with meatballs came doused in olive oil and nothing else, when ordered with meat sauce. Absolutely bizarre. French fries were soggy, unsalted, and flavorless. Side bread with the entrees is notoriously dry, hard, flavorless and almost fluorescent orange. Lasagna was okay, but it's a good thing we tried it before placing a catering order in a couple weeks as we planned. Literally NOTHING in our $60+ order was good. Every single item was bad. On top of that, it was ready about 25 minutes after it was supposed to be. Literally ANY restaurant in Olney is a better choice. read more

My wife and I have come to Mama Lucia's with family a few times now and we always have a great time. The customer service here is great and the restaurant is nice and clean. They also have outdoor seating for the spring/summer time. They have really good pizza, which is what I always end up ordering. They also have a wide variety of other classic Italian dishes as well (pasta, chicken, seafod, etc.) The pasta dishes are probably our next favorite after the pizza. The portions here are pretty big as well, you will definitely walk away full and happy. They even have good cannoli's, which is hard to find in this area. They also serve you toasted bread with olive oil/vinnegar and pepper, which is really good as well. read more

They've more or less had the same menu for just about two decades...until now. WHAT. THE. FETTUCCINE. I'm really not happy with the recent changes, at least at the Olney location. Here's why: Ambiance We walk in on a recent Wednesday night around 8pm. No one is there to greet us like the days of yore. So we're literally standing there all "Hello? Anyone home?" Never in two decades have I seen this place so empty on a weeknight. That just about sums it up. There were only three tables of customers (including us). Menu The above is what happens when you cut your beloved menu in half. First off they start with pizza on their menu. To my fellow OG's out there, you'll remember that pizza used to be the LAST section of their menu. Huh? - Prices are bizarre for those of us used to their old menu. Most items are now listed in ranges. For example: Meat Pizza $21-$24, Homemade Lasagna $13-$17, Chicken Parm $14-$20 (really?!!!), Mussels $12-$18. They don't even explain these vast ranges. Why not keep lunch/dinner like they used to? Makes me feel like they're giving themselves room to adjust prices as they see fit without proper disclosure. Seems a bit shady to me. Just my opinion. - Add ons are outrageous. Want to add shrimp? That'll be an extra $10! Chicken (aka the cheapest protein out there!) that'll be $5! Food Luckily, what's left of their menu is still just as delicious it's always been. Jimmy's olive oil sauce is still one of my favorite things on the planet. Portions are still great along with the salads that accompany entrees. - My usual Chicken Francese was good but a very different, almost burnt color, unlike the previous 25 times I've ordered it. - Heads up in advance if you're there and blindly order the Ovi Special. It's well known that it's their chicken parm (with garden salad, bread and four different sauces). My boyfriend ordered this assuming it was the actual Ovi special. Instead, he got a smaller than their usual portion of chicken parm and a large cheese pizza. No four sauces. Just one. Hello Ovi Special includes four sauces on the side! On top of that it was $30 not the $25 as advertised. Pizza Delivery They're way off the mark when it comes to pizza delivery. Different experience as above but equally disappointing. I ordered a pepperoni and mushroom pizza (usually pretty darn good). - It took an hour and 45 minutes for delivery. As if that weren't bad enough I open my pizza box only to discover its anchovies and pepperoni!! GAHHH!!! EWWW! GROSS! - I could deal with the accidental onions or (god forbid) peppers but anchovies?! By this point it was 9:45 (they closed at 10). The delivery guy was still out making deliveries (most likely the wrong pizzas) but don't worry they'd give me a free pizza the next day. I'm sorry but anchovies are not something you can just pick off of a pizza. The whole thing tastes and smells like anchovies. They screwed up and didn't want to fix it on the spot. Once again that just about sums up their customer service skills. Overall I get that things need to change. To newcomers they may seem great but to us old schoolers they've taken way too many steps back for me to consider this as one of my go to Italian spots be it this location or others. The service has gone downhill just like their menu. Hopefully they'll take these reviews into consideration and readjust to how things used to be. read more

Years ago I was working in Olney and decided to grab a couple of pizzas to take home. Plain cheese for one, meats on the other. They packaged my order. I remember being surprised at checkout when they charged me nearly $60!! (For TWO Pizzas???) When I got home, the pizzas were so tiny, they looked like heated up storebought. AND they were tasteless. One of his orders was Fried Zuccini. Floppy, wet, not crispy. He had gotton as one of his orders a pasta dish (that was horrible--a barely cooked spoonful of pasta with a dollop of canned sauce) and, included, something that was supposed to be garlic bread. This bread, if it ever was bread , was the size of Frisbees,and had been painted with something orange and was so hard we could have used them as walk pavers. Mamma Lucia's is a wonderful restaurant that my family has frequented often since they opened in Olney. We would always order the Chicken Portifino. An amazing dish with chicken and fresh apples over a delicious plate of noodles with alfredo sauce. As times change, so did their menu. Tonight was my first time back after life circumstances took me out of the area. I was surprised to see such a varied menu offering a much larger variety of dishes. Unfortunately, I didn't see my Chicken Portifino. It was wonderful to see the familiar decor and happy/friendly staff. My significant other ordered chicken parmigiana, and I ordered the chicken alfredo. Both dishes were delicious and more than ample. The bread and dipping sauce was a sweet reminder of wonderful times past. It was especially nice to see an impeccably-dressed gentleman walking between tables, stopping to introduce himself to ensure all was okay with our meal and service. He introduced himself to us as David. I can tell you as a 62 year old who eats out frequently, that it is rare these days to have anyone come and ask how my meal is - much less introduce himself with a genuine handshake. He was a true breath of fresh air and made my experience back a more memorable one that I will not soon forget. So you ever know you want something with pasta but not quite sure exactly what that something is? Go to mamma Lucias. They made me fresh pasta to order down to the sauce. I knew I wanted a cream sauce, ground veal, sausage and they just said hell with the pre written dishes and gave me what I wanted. AND.... It was SO durn good and creamy and satisfying that I only wish I hadve been in sweat pants or pajamas. Lol I had the risotto balls appetizer, which is risotto? Balled up, filled with ground beef and mozzarella and fried in panko bread crumbs. GOD so yummy. There is 6 of them and they are huge, so u could definitely make a meal outta them. Served with marinara, there's something SO inherently Italian feeling about the dish that I felt very godfather - ish. Lol When you sit down, they start you with garlic knot style bread and this ridiculously so good it's bad for you oil and seasoning/parmesan mixture to drown them in... geez man. Many a hour on the treadmill this place will set you back! Not gonna lie, it's a lil pricey. Well over 30 bux for one person for an app, an entree and a glass of wine. But the portion sizes make it worth it and the service was good too! I couldn't make it to dessert but I assure you that had I had room, I would've ran towards that dessert menu with gusto. They had many of much my favorites that make my inner fat fat sing with glee! Brownie ala mode, tiramisu, cheesecakes, canollis, etc. And I'm sure they'd be great as well. NY style pizza is always the best in Maryland, but writing about the "real food." The bread, smothered with garlic in oil, is a great way to start. Sometimes I ask for the "kids bread" which is a fresh loaf of Italian Roll. I'd pass in the fried mozzarella as it didn't have much flavor and was overcooked. The stuffed pepper app was worthy of being a featured dish. Had the Chicken Oscar special. The chicken was so tender is easily cut with a fork it melted in my mouth. It was perfectly paired with huge pieces of lump crab. I don't like mustard, but this mustard based sauce was so delicate that it was sheer delite. My wife had the crabmeat ravioli. Homemade pasta with maryland's favorite crab - cooked to perfection. With a varied menu and a great list of specials, this is a can't miss. read more

A group of 3 of us tried to grab a bite but the incompetence and unprofessionalism of this restaurant prevented us from even having a server come to our table. We were seated outside by the hostess and waited over 20 minutes before calling the restaurant to remind them we were outside...for at least a greeting. It would have been nice to also have a server come and at least greet us and ask us what we were drinking. After calling, a rush of employees came out including the would-be manager who aggressively tried to implore us to stay. He told us to "sit down" and that he would have dinner and dessert out in no time. At that point, we were tired and didn't want to be bothered but he wouldn't take "no thanks" for an answer. We could hear the server telling the manager that "no one knew whose table it was," which was pretty ridiculous. At least two servers had come in and out of the restaurant to drop a bill off to a neighboring table and to clear another. I've only had a few of their dishes, even though I've eaten there for over 5 years, the Lasagna, the Pepperoni Pizza and a few others all carry that taste that I left behind in Italy. My family and I used to visit Mamma Lucia all the time when we lived near the Silver Spring location. Now that we don't live as close, we aren't able to make it over there as much. We were surprised to find one in Olney, about 12 miles from us, and were excited to check it out. This location is located inside a shopping center in between Homegoods and a Chinese place. They have nice outdoor seating available, but we opted for the dining room. The dining room is spacious and comfortable. Our server was absolutely wonderful. Her name was Kelly and she was so attentive, asking about refills consistently, checking in on us multiple times, etc. she also let me know that I could substitute a cup of soup instead of a side salad with my meal, which was awesome. The portions here are very hearty-I can guarantee you will not leave hungry! Try not to fill up too much on the bread they bring you, although I know it can be tough. If you can't get enough of the bread, the garlic knots are stellar. My favorite dish is their Chicken Marsala. Tonight when I ordered it I was given a huge helping of pasta with tons of mushrooms and 3 large pieces of chicken. I couldn't even finish it! This Mamma Lucia location exceeded our expectations. We already knew we would love the food because we have been to other locations, but the quality service and ambiance of the restaurant helped take the experience above and beyond. read more
