The bill did not match the prices on the menu. I said something to the waitress and asked the bill to be corrected. Instead of saying something like oh sure I am sorry she told me that the prices were different in the computer than what is on the menu. I told her that was against the law. She came back with the money deducted that we were overcharged but an additional 2 percent was added to the bill. I told her and she took it to the manager. Instead of fixing the bill the manager came over to "talk" When I asked why a 2 per cent charge was added she said that it is added to all bills. I said it was not because the bill I still had in my possession that was incorrect did not have 2 per cent added. I asked why 2 per cent was added and she asked me if I wanted to hear or not. I said yes and she started to tell me about how the price of food has going up and they can't make new menus because the prices might keep soaring. Then in a huff she walked away and took the 2 per cent charge off. I would have thought she would have from the beginning quietly, apologetically and quickly fixed our bill. I never asked about chicken prices. I asked why she was telling me incorrectly why 2 per cent was being added. I just wanted to have a nice lunch and when the bill was wrong to have it fixed right the first time. When it wasn't right the second time, I just wanted them to fix it and bring it back quickly. I did not want to hear an unapologetic manager tell me why their menus don't match what they charge. My son who lives in the area has been going to the Rockville Restaurant for years and recently moved to Olney. He didn't say anything to the manager so when we left he said to me he would never go back there and the manager was terrible. He felt she should have fixed the bill and apologized. Sometimes less is more. I don't care what the prices are. I would pay what they ask but don't advertise one price and charge another. I will never go back there. There are too many terrific places to be treated that way. It was not the pleasant experience I had expected and had experienced at their Rockville site. read more

The worst food. We had a personal size pizza that was all sauce and crust--almost no cheese. Took it home and added the cheese that should have been on it. Plus we ordered garlic knots and what we got was four pieces of white bread with some red stuff spread on it. These are not knots. We should have known better to order from here--we thought that we got food poisoning from this restaurant over the summer but were not sure, so we did not accuse them then. Now we are sure. Mama Lucia's is a wonderful staple in Olney's dining category. The food is excellent. My go-to meal is a sausage and cheese pizza with basil added after it's done baking. I highly recommend the Penne Norcina, too. The ingredients are always fresh. Recently, I observed a manager take excellent care of a group of on-duty police. In addition to making sure they were well taken care of with food and service, he discounted the group's check. This generosity did not go unnoticed. Kudos!!! The staff is great with the exceptions of Mia and Susan. These two ladies are beyond great; they're absolutely fantastic. In addition to exceptional service, they are truly a pleasure to interact with. Both are friendly and always there with a warm smile. As servers, they are pros, but what makes them stand apart, is how they have gone above and beyond to get to know my boyfriend and I, including greeting us with a Coke and Diet Coke in hand, when we sit down. Before having the opportunity to experience this level of service, I would dine here once a month or so. Now a days, we eat here once a week, always asking for their specific section of tables. If you haven't been to Mama Lucia's Olney in a while, stop in and ask for one of these two servers. Trust me you will be back. Oh and try the cannolis-they're delicious. read more

Staff was rude, not helpful, and knowingly screwed up and did nothing to make it right. After placing a to-go order, I arrived and they said they "never received it" yet they knew I had paid for it. Really enjoyed our trip to Mamma Lucia's! Homey, delicious food. I was really amazed but happy to find out that they have a number of locations. Just seemed like a homespun, family restaurant and wouldn't be something that could be duplicated. Nice to know that they are taking their yummy food to other places. I personally had the garlic bread (could have eaten the whole bowl but somehow controlled myself) and the eggplant parmiagiana with spaghetti. Drooling as I think about it all. My Mom and my sister raved about a particular waiter. They said he usually waits on them hand and foot. How dissapointing. We hadn't been here for awhile. Returned last Saturday night, had been looking forward to a tasty meal & a nice time. Didn't happen. No one acknowledged us, upon arrival. Their acoustics are poor, as more & more guests arrived, really became difficult to hear. Lastly, the condition of the ladies room was unlike any visit I had before. Just got the Tuesday pizza special buy large get second $5. Their pizza in the past has been really good, but this pizza barely cheese on it, worst part the crust is hard as rock. My family won't eat it. Don't know if different locations use different products, but the College Park location pizza definitely taste and texture is much better. Yesterday Aug 26, 2021, our daughter recommended this place for takeout. We have never done Italian food take out and will never again. We ordered lasagna, chicken parmigiana and shrimp linguine with spicy marinara sauce. All three entrees were burnt and overcooked! The marinara sauce was not spicy at all. And the tomato sauce on the lasagna could have been from a can! Even the side salads were horrible! The spaghetti was limp and mushy as well! We called them back and they told us they would graciously redo our order. Our daughter went back and the order was done over without being burnt. Unfortunately, the overall taste of the three entrees were still pretty awful!!We through most of it in the trash! We paid a lot of money for food we couldn't eat! I ordered online for the Olney location. I paid online & had to include my phone number with the order. I arrived there to pickup my order & the staff told me to sign the receipt which I did. After I signed the receipt they proceeded to tell me that they didn't have the pasta to make my orders. Why have me sign the receipt if they didn't have my order to give me? Why include my phone number with the online order if you aren't going to use it? They could have called me before I made the trip there to let me know they didn't have it. They told me it would take 5-7 business days to get my money back. The whole thing was just a huge waste of my time & money as well as horrible customer service. I recommend anyone who's thinking about going here or ordering online to go anywhere else & avoid the headache. read more

They need to manage their online ordering system better. We ordered spaghetti online at 5:05 pm for a 5:45 pickup. When we got there, we had to wait another 40 minutes. The place was a chaotic zoo! The order didn't come out until 6:25 pm. I could have made spaghetti at home quicker than that! Meanwhile, the order we had waiting at another establishment had been sitting there since 6:00pm. So much for planning. A call to let us know you were running behind would have been a good customer service move. Went with my friend to dinner yesterday to this restaurant. Outside the restaurant theres a board that reads "" buy one pasta entree for $14:99 the other one is $ 3:99. Once you get into the restaurant and want to place that order. You can forget it. The lady who took our order OMG. We had to repeat ourself to her so many times. It was redundant. It was like she had no idea what we wanted. We kept repeating our order to her over and over. My friend wanted Fettucini with shrimp instead of chicken. She said it was ok. When the food arrived she brought shrimp scampi. Charged us $22. Which was the wrong price. Then she brought the manager. Who was far from friendly. We were the only customer in the restaurant. I understand why they didn't had a lot of customers. Anyway I will never return to this restaurant ever again. Very poor service. Food not Italian taste at all. In my opinion, Mama Lucia's is "A Ok." I've honestly felt like the food has never been amazing and the prices aren't that convincing either. I do have to say that the portions are huge and I always take home leftovers. But this one is in the middle for me. When I went last month, they seemed to have only hired high school/college servers, perhaps because it is the summertime. Specials Monday night (pasta night, buy one dish get one for $4) and Tuesday night (pizza night, BOGO for $4, carry out only). You can be seated outside at this location, if there's a spot available, and this is a kid-friendly restaurant. It is probably one of the busiest spots at night aside from Cheeburger and Coldstone in this particular Olney shopping center. read more

I had a Fabulous and Delicious dinner here last night. We were seated right away, service was fantastic. I really liked our waitress, she was very attentive and friendly. I got the Eggplant parmigiana, which was AWESOME! It was so cheesy and big, perfect for eating half and having the rest for lunch the next day. My glass of wine was very generous, which I think it should be everywhere seeing as how expensive it is! I also love the bread and garlic cheese oil you get in the beginning of the meal. Ate dinner here tonight. The food was great. The service was good. The price was right. However, I do have a couple of negative observations: 1) Several girls working here have very long hair and they don't tie it in a ponytail or a bun. I saw one girl who was in the food area flipping her hair numerous times. Gross! Men should also be required to keep a neater appearance. 2) Lots of staff standing around doing nothing, just socializing and texting/reading their cell phone messages. If ya got time to lean, ya got time to clean! One guy who was off to himself was working every minute and staying busy while everyone else was standing around. 3) Female staff behind food counter was eating pizza dough balls in full view of patrons. Stop eating the pizza balls from the bowl! It looks gross and makes me wonder if they eat from my plate when they bring out the food. To be fair, I have observed staff eating in front of patrons at Riccuitis, and the Brookeville Inn, so this is no different. They also have similar reviews. My guess is the manager was "off" tonight. He may want to review the security camera film to see what was happening here and fix some of those issues with staff. It doesn't take much effort to be more professional in the restaurant business, but management needs to get firm and have some rules. The manager has told off every customer complaint and hasn't so much as acknowledged his service failure for multiple customers. Avoid this place, and it's terrible customer service. Edit for Rick, who now renamed himself Mama L: (2016 edit in which nothing has changed because this happened again with my neighbor) Rick, I find your lack of acknowledging the complaint made before mine by another customer, as well as the gentleman after me in line claiming here not to notice "anyone else" complaining as laughable at best. Busy or not, you don't quote 30 minutes to your customers if you know you can't deliver on that time. Waiting nearly 2 hours (an hour of which in your restaurant) and then watching you ignore the valid complaints of myself and others, then scoffing at what we asked for when you asked us what you could do for us to compensate is another dose of terrible customer service. Your management skills are a joke and you've lost a customer. I didn't flat out ask for a discount as you put it, you asked me what you could do to make it right. Your options are more food, which clearly would be an issue since you were backlogged, so I said a 10% off the next order would be a good start; which you outright refused. It's not the customers fault, regardless of your specials that you couldn't quote a reasonable time... and instead think it resonable to invent imaginary pickup windows, waste our time, and take no responsibility while fluffing your story here to save face. read more

Granted, it has been a LONG time since I have eaten in or had anything but pizza from Mama Lucia's but this was so disappointing. The pros, the place has been renovated and looks nice on the inside and the service was good for the most part. I ended up sitting at the bar which has a couple high top tables. I ordered a cesar salad and had asked for anchovies, which I didn't get so was a little disappointed about that. I ordered mussels which were horrible. The broth was wayyy salty and most of the mussels were gritty. Just wasn't good at all. That said the wine was good... I visited a few weeks back, and I have to confess that I don't get the positive reviews for Mama's. Granted, this is the kind of neighborhood restaurant you really want to like. However I can't get past the absolutely flavorless pasta sauce. No really, they would have been better off adding a can of tomatoes to a jar of Barilla and it would have been a dramatic improvement. The meatballs were just not that good either; the best I can give them is that they were large and mostly edible. I've had their pizza on a few occasions. When the bill arrived full menu price was charged but when asked for clarification Lilian stated "oh maybe I didn't explain well". Not only were those the worst meals we were ever served, but the waitress didn't even know what the special was. To clarify the dishes... I recently had Chicken Marsala from another location. It was delish! Loads of mushrooms, rich gravey. Seasoned well. Tonight chicken breast with clear broth and a few mushrooms over a heap of unseasoned spaghetti. The other dish ordered was Chicken Francese. Interestingly enough the burnt egg coated chicken had the same clear broth with an over abundance of lemon juice. Needless to say. It's a first that I am sad with this meal. We eat at Mamma Lucia's pretty regularly and are usually very happy. Whether we eat in or order out, consistently good. This week, not so much. Called in an order on Monday for 4 pasta dishes to go. Not one was prepared correctly. My daughter had to wait while they fixed everything and when she got it home, it was crappy. Fettuccine Alfredo had zero sauce on it, like egg noodles sprinkled with some cheese. The spaghetti and meatballs was dry. I had to spell the words Penne Norcina to the guy on the phone. Yeah, it was pasta night, and i know it gets busy but it still cost $45 for a meal I could make better at home.
