Stopped in on election day, ordered by phone and went to pick up about 15 min later. Timing was great, right as the pizza was coming out of the oven. The motz sticks and calamari were just what we needed to share before the pizza. Not our favorite apps but they did the job. We got a chicken parm pizza, which we have never had before. I lived near NY in CT and had wonderful brick oven pizza. I was very hopefuls about this location. First the good news, tomatoes and cheese were great, but the crust wasn't like any NY pizza I've had. Interesting enough part of the problem is very similar to another AA county location and that is the crust being like leather. The bottom of the pizza was so dark, that carbon flavor overwhelmed other flavors. After hearing the owner talk about the authenticity of the recipe, I asked them if they used tap water in the dough which he said yes. NY city has some of the best water in the US. AA county has the worse water and is very hard, but it does meet EPA requirements by killing everything with chlorine. Water is a big deal and here is a quote from an article: Water hardness describes the amount of calcium and magnesium ions in waters. This is expressed in ppm, or parts per million. Soft water has less than 50ppm, while hard water has over 200ppm. A water of medium hardness - 100 to 150ppm works best for dough preparation. The mineral content of water needs to be enough to feed the yeast and assist in the fermentation (otherwise the dough will be slack). If the water is too hard, however, the fermentation rate will be reduced and there will be a tightening effect on the fermentation. This will cause the dough to be tougher than is often desired. read more

I came here with a large group of friends for dinner one day. The restaurant was amazing at accommodating for a large group by pushing together extra tables and adding more chairs to the ends. Our servers were also very nice. When seated, you get to look at a menu. To order, you go to the counter, tell them what you want, pay there, and go back to your seat. The waiter brings your food out to you. If you order pasta, you also get a slice of garlic bread as an appetizer. The garlic bread tasted good; the flavor was well-balanced, but the bread itself could have been more fresh. I ordered a new pesto pasta that they advertised as a recent addition to the menu. The cashier recommended it to me as a delicious new item. I was really excited to try this, but unfortunately, I didn't like it that much. Most importantly, it did not have enough salt. Situated in a small strip area in Piney Orchard, they make some extremely good food. We have had pizza (both NY style and Sicilian) and a few of their pastas. They do not miss at all. Oh, and I cannot forget about Mamma! She is the nicest, sweetest, woman who you can find at the register about 99% of the time and when I tell you she runs a tight ship? The food here is flavorful and popular using the heavy-handed approach to cooking. They use strong flavors and heavy sauces to get the attention of people's taste buds and fill their bellies. It works! Look at all the rave reviews! However, the wait time for ordering dine-in food is unacceptable! I've included a description of the problem and some tips to help. More on that later. The dishes my wife and I tried had no subtle or delicate flavors. Just obvious aromas and flavors that made them satisfying. I can appreciate their unnuanced approach to Italian food. If you've been in business long enough, you know that subtlety isn't noticed by most customers. Here's a description of the 4 dishes we tried. 1) Calamari Fritti It had breaded calamari tentacles and rings with a gravy boat of marinara sauce and a wedge of lemon. The breading was a thick batter coating that was on the heavier side. The calamari was tender and fresh with a clean aroma. There was no fishy smell. A lighter breading would be nice. Otherwise, the taste and texture were very good, but I've had better. The marinara sauce had a strong acidic tomato flavor. It tasted and looked like spaghetti sauce mixed with a little cocktail sauce. It tasted okay, but it was pretty heavy for a marinara sauce. 2) NY Style Combo Pizza This was a carryout order. We bought a medium-size pizza with onion, mushrooms, pepperoni, bacon, and roasted red peppers. It normally comes with three toppings, but we paid for 2 more. The pizza crust was moist and slightly chewy with a typical plain taste. The edge (cornicione) got very hard, and microwaving didn't soften it much. The roasted red peppers had a flavor that was outstanding, and the cheese was a blend that was savory. The sauce was strong in acidic tomato flavor. A little more sugar would help. The rest of the ingredients were typical. This was a good tasting pizza. To be outstanding, it needs a tasty crust and a flavorful pizza seasoning that's not too heavy on the herbs. 3) Seafood Extravaganza This dish is a version of luiguine ai fruitti di mare (luiguine with fruit of the sea). It had mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops, calamari, and crabmeat sautéed in garlic, olive oil, and cherry tomato sauce served over linguini. It came with 2 slices of garlic bread. The seafood was fresh. We kept finding small bits of mussel and clam shells. Better washing is needed. Everything was cooked well. The sauce was rather thick for this type of dish. More white wine would help. It had a strong tomato flavor with moderate pepperiness along with a good balance of herbs, garlic, onion, and salt. This sauce paired well with the seafood. I recommend this dish. Just watch out for bits of shell. The garlic bread had strong flavors of butter and garlic. They were toasted well, but the edges were rather hard. They do NOT give out complimentary bread. It comes with certain entrees. Otherwise, you pay for it. 4) Shrimp Montini Fresh shrimp sautéed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil, then tossed with arugula and fresh crabmeat in a cognac cream sauce, and served over rigatoni. It came with 2 slices of garlic bread. We changed the rigatoni to linguine. Their sauce is thick, so it doesn't get inside rigatoni well. The sauce lacked richness and cognac flavor. It was creamy and well-rounded with herbs and seasoning. It's a flavorful sauce that needs more cognac or one that has a standout flavor and heavy cream or butter added for richness. This fell short of what a cognac cream sauce should be. The medium size shrimp were tender with a mild garlic flavor. It was delicious! The tails were left on the shrimp. Tails should be taken off unless there is a purpose, like in shrimp cocktail. My wife and I enjoyed this dish despite the shortcomings. It could be better. The service needs improvement! All food orders are taken at one cash register. It's the same for drinks and dessert at the bar. On a busy day, the line is long and slow. I stood 18 minutes in line for food and 20 minutes at the bar. They need to change to a faster ordering system like a tablet menu at the table or a QR code ordering service like Square or Clover. If you want to dine-in and don't like waiting, then I suggest dinner on Wednesday or Thursday. They're closed on Monday and Tuesday. After ordering, the service was great. They bring your food to your table. They were helpful, polite, and responsive. The dining room and restrooms were clean. You can help yourself to napkins, silverware, soda, and water refills. They're located at the dining room back wall near the kitchen doorway. This is a nice family restaurant with Italianesque decor. I was impressed at how flavorful the food was, so I recommend a visit. Real deal Italian food right in Odenton. Who knew? Apparently all of you did on Yelp! A friend and I decided to order takeout from Mamma Roma one Saturday evening and I think it was a life-changing experience for both of us. We placed our order online for Fettuccine Mediterraneo and Chicken Parm. It's easy to customize your dishes online as well. By the time we arrived, the order was ready. I had the fettuccine and my goodness! You can tell that this pasta is made fresh. It was so good. The dish I got usually includes shrimp, crabmeat, and scallops but I don't like scallops and had them removed. My only gripe is that the shrimp were a little overcooked. My friend loved the chicken parm and text me today that he just got dinner from there tonight. There are so many other things I want to try, including their pizza. So many people were picking up pizzas that night so it must be good as well. I'm so glad to know there's an authentic Italian spot right here in the burbs. Long story short, I was not happy with an item I had delivered so after calling and a bit of back and forth, I brought the item back to get it replaced. I don't think the person I spoke to was happy that I brought it back. I wasn't happy and that's where it should've ended. Instead I was told there was nothing wrong, but they would replace it. By the time I left, I was so upset and felt like I had done something wrong. Whatever happened to general kindness, I wasn't happy, apologize and make it right. Don't yell or talk loudly/angrily to me. This place is legit! The gnocchi is amazing here! The Ravioli rapini may have been on of the most deliciously unique dishes I have ever had eating italian. Mamma Roma had been on my list of places to try out, but a co-worker told me it is some of the best Italian food he has ever had. I checked it out, and was not disappointed. It is a super low-key, casual place. We sat near the open kitchen, and you could hear different staff members (pretty sure they're also all family members) talking to each other in Italian. I ordered the penne alla vodka and it was incredible. I was glad I could order a lunch portion, because if I ordered the dinner portion I would have eaten it all in that sitting. I am definitely going to order this dish again! My friend I dined with ordered the chicken parmigiana, which was good but had a bit too much flour/breading on the chicken. We ended with dessert -- the tiramisu is wonderful -- and some coffee. A doppio and a macchiato. The coffee is great... I would stop here just for a latte to go! And then, we ordered a pizza to go for dinner later on. I got a make-your-own cheese pizza and added arugula to it. On Tuesdays they have an incredible pizza deal, so we ordered it one night at work for dinner. Large, New York style slices on the pizza. I just got the cheese (I like simple pizza), and it was good. Seemed a bit greasy, but that didn't stop me! I'm not wild about NY style pizza, and I would go elsewhere if I were looking specifically for pizza. But the Tuesday deal is awesome so we've ordered that more than once. So when I came in the restaurant in odenton today to pick up my order, the owner saw me come in and took at least 5 minutes before he acknowledged me and when he did it was with a slight attitude. We came here again on Saturday. Great customer service especially from the friendly bartender who wore multiple hats. He addressed our questions about the new appetizer Shrimp Barca that was delicious as well as the seafood extravaganza (see photo). The pizza with sausage, pepperoni and mushrooms was great too. Like the first time visited earlier this year, we could not finish our meal and took the rest home. We had dessert the cannolis and chocolate cook, good but not totally a fan. We finally found it!! A passable pizza place within a 30 min radius! My boyfriend and I went here for our 4 year anniversary. We have been trying so hard to find decent pizza but it's been a failing cause. I did some research and found this little jem of a place! Upon walking in, we expected it to be waiter serviced, but it is not. You place your order, grab a number, and sit down. No big deal, but it was a bit cramped and hard to order at the front. We ended up ordering a large, extra cheese NY style pizza ($17.50), two glasses of house red ($16), and a cannoli ($5). The pizza came out in record time! I was white impressed. We may have waited a total of 10 minutes and it was quite busy at the time (it was a Tuesday and they have a buy a pizza get another at a discount deal). The pizza was on point. Thin, NY style crust and super cheesy. The sauce was the best part being full of flavor with Italian spice. The pizza bottom was perfect, but I wish the cheese was more blistered. The mozzarella was still white and, dare I say it, probably because I ordered extra and it was too much! I love extremely cheesy, but only if it can be melted properly. The crust had great flavor and was nice and thin, but I wish the dough puffed more. It was a little dense and didn't have that nice "airiness" that I look for in my NY style. Solid 7/10 pizza though! We drank our house wine (which cost just as much as the cheese pizza!) and was on our way with a cannoli to go. We ended up eating the cannoli not too long later and it was alright. After living in NY and visiting Boston, I have been ruined with high expectations for cannolis. The shel was crisp but the ricotta filling was relatively bland.
