We were also more than a little taken aback when our Caucasian waitress told us matter-of-factly, "You know, Mammy could have been one of your RELATIVES!!" HUH? Did she really just say that??? Yeah, she was probably right, but we didn't appreciate her saying so!!! Guess she didn't realize that's still a touchy subject with African Americans. SMDH. The food isn't all that hot either. The buffet is pitiful (all pork products, and they don't replenish it fast enough). The best thing here is probably the pancakes. I probably ate 10, because I didn't care for anything else in the buffet. If you do go there, just order an entree. You won't get your money's worth at the buffet. My wife and I were trying to find a cheaper buffet in the area, so we found Mammy's to be pretty reasonable. All in all, the place had that neat vintage 50's feel with the old vinyl booths and retro decor. All of the staff were very friendly. Our waitress suggested that we try the pot roast; she said it was one of their items that people come back for. So we tried it, and I tell you what...we became HUGE fans of it!!! Its a solid breakfast buffet. Nothing special but everything was hot, fresh, and well kept. Service was very friendly and establishment was clean. I would certainly return. Items they had... sausage links, sausage patties, bacon, scrambled eggs, scrambled western omelet, grits, corned beef hash, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, french toast, syrup, misc fresh fruit, potatoes, hash browns, and several other basic items. You can also order from the menu if you would like. In regards to the review that mentioned the parking below... The parking for Mammys is obviously a public lot that they are allowed to use. There is no issue parking but they do ask once you are finished and leaving that the car is moved. Although there is no charge for parking when visiting Mammys it is a pay lot for the public during the day. read more

People in the south sure do love buffets! Went here with a large group for the breakfast buffet. Even though it was packed, we were seated relatively quickly. I was the only person in the group who ordered a la carte, everyone else did the buffet. One of the things I'm picky about is eggs, I like them well done, and the buffet's scrambled eggs looked like a runny milky hot mess. Food was normal good diner quality. Service was quick and sassy until I dared to pick a strawberry off my man's plate, then it was on like Donkey Kong! Our waitress must have been keeping her eye on me, because she was before me in a flash to chew me out for breaking the rules. For the record, if you order a la carte, don't even think about picking a piece of fruit off someone's plate who got the buffet. We went to Mammy's Kitchen and we were horribly disappointed. The seating system is the worst ever! We stood in a long line thinking we were going to get some good southern cooking but all we got was some tasteless stuff that you can get at any run of the mill hole in the wall. To say the least the joint needs to be renovated and it was crowded and uncomfortable. The seats were wet and the table had someone else's dry grits on it. The food was terrible.... Lukewarm....fake eggs.....overly greasy sausage..... Dry potatoes that sat in the metal pan too long. The price was outrageous for that nasty disgusting food. I'm a breakfast person so when I saw the commercial boasting about how great this place was, I wanted to try it in spite of the name (it was either here or the Plantation pancake house.) The service was decent, I mean she brought us butter, napkins, and coffee upon request. I just didn't get that friendly, personable vibe I was looking for (that was advertised.) The food: Well it was a buffet so I was excited for the variety. I got corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, grits, and French toast. I know what you're thinking...that's a lot and it was but I only actually ate the French toast, sausage, and some of the eggs. The reason being everything else tasted bad to me. The buffet was well stocked with fruit, sausage, bacon, biscuits and sausage gravy, grits, eggs, pancakes, french toast and various toppings. The only thing missing was the great looking waffles that they were making. The food was your average breakfast fare and tasted very good. The staff kept the food well stocked and the lines moved quickly. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The great thing is you couldn't beat the price for feeding a large group. After we left there no one was hungry until well into the evening. The atmosphere was nice though some people might say it is dated. I think it showed the history. It was also very clean. Like the other reviews state, you can't really complain about an $8 breakfast buffet. I am not usually a fan of buffets, but it's a better deal so you can try several items versus paying the same price for 1 item off the regular menu. Decor is old school but charming...very 50's and a "how y'all doing?" feel to it. Our waitress was a hoot and played a practical joke on us being that it was April Fools day, which had totally slipped our minds, since we were in full on vacation mode. I appreciated her sense of humor and we laughed as she played the same joke on every table as they were seated. The only thing I'd pass over next time would be the cinnamon rolls or whatever they were claiming they were. More like sugary rocks. Not appealing. The eggs were great, however! Everytime I come to Myrtle Beach I see loads of people having breakfast here so I decided to try mammys out. Mammys is old and has been in the same spot since 1953. Whomever is in charge keeps the building in shape. Most old mom a pop spots are dirty and in need of many repairs I'm happy to say that mammys was super clean and in good repair. The food was a little bland even my apple juice was a little watered down. So many other people were there loving the buffet that I feel like I have to say that I'm not much of a buffet guy so I grade buffets a little hard. Nothing was bad and nothing was great. I really recommend you try this restaurant for yourself. Remember normal Myrtle Beach over pricing. read more
