I thought this place would be cool b/c they had a breakfast buffet and it's the down-home type of spot that my husband and I enjoy going to. I have to say nothing here surprised me since I checked the photos beforehand. The basics (grits, eggs, bacon) were all good. I actually enjoyed the biscuit and their sausage gravy was really good to me as well. What disappointed me was the condition of the fresh fruit (not the obvious canned stuff) but the melons and grapefruit. They were so dried out and some pieces obviously old. The grapefruit, in particular, looked like it had been halved and left to sit out on the counter uncovered. That's how dry it looked. The melon, as we know is off season for November but it looked old and not as it should be on a buffet. The strawberries, however, were tasty and looked very fresh. Their sausage patties were pretty flavorless, and the links were just kinda awful. The links were just all soft inside and I had did not swallow that. The place gets crowded so there's a bit of a bottleneck at the buffet and that was a little annoying, especially if you were waiting to go for a 2nd round. The staff was nice and it's basically a local spot (if I had to guess), and you can get a decent cheap breakfast here. Just don't expect everything to be great and stick to the basics. read more

To say the breakfast buffet was disappointing is an understatement. The corned beef hash, and both types of eggs were watered down and mushy. The fruit toppings were straight from a can. The actual real fruit wasn't cut small enough so the wedges needed their own plate and even though the fruit was bright and colorful, it didn't taste like it. This place does not follow Covid guidelines. Large group of customers not wearing masks entire time, including while at the buffet. This group along with others did not apply gloves and were noted to spend a good amount of time at the buffet sometimes handling food and replacing it with ungloved hands. A large group not wearing masks was seated directly next to our table with no social distance at all. Mammy's Kitchen is one of the more popular breakfast spots in Myrtle Beach but, we were tired of breakfast food so we came for lunch instead. They have a decent sized parking lot so when we arrived there was plenty of parking in the back lot. There is also a separate lot to the far left that offers all day parking for only a few dollars. They offer a pretty extensive breakfast buffet for $8.99 for adults. $4.99 for children ages 6 to 9 and $3.99 for children ages 3 to 5. Children age 2 and under are free. The buffet features scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, corned beef hash, biscuits, sausage gravy, sausage links and patties, bacon, hash browns, grits fresh fruit and much more. After we ordered our drinks we pondered over the menu for a while. I ended up choosing a Mammy's Philly with fries. It features chopped steak sautéed with greens peppers, mushrooms and onions. Topped with melted cheese and served on a grilled hoagie bun. I have had authentic Philly cheese steaks and this one was just as good if not better then some of the ones I had in Philly! The steak was real steak and was cooked to perfection and was seasoned just right. The gooey melted cheese took it over the top! The fries were great also. My wife chose a Patty Melt and onion rings. It featured chopped sirloin topped with sautéed onions and smothered with Swiss cheese. It is served on grilled Texas toast. She absolutely loved it. Our daughter chose a bacon cheeseburger and fries. She loved hers as well. You have to come eat at Mammy's if you are ever in Myrtle beach! They are only open until 1pm and you will always see a line out the door but it's worth the wait and the line moves quickly. My husband & I went here on our last morning of vacation on suggestions of locals, and other (older) reviews. It was "meh" over all. Not at all busy like we were warned it would it be. The best item they offered was the coffee. It was hot & fresh, served in its own carafe. Menu prices online and even their own Facebook page are outdated. Drinks (including coffee) are now $2.99 each, and the buffet is now $12.99, and it isn't any bigger than it was years ago and don't offer any different options based on other reviews. Still has watermelon & cantaloupe, canned peaches & mixed fruit. Processed mini donuts & peacan pinwheels, Cottage cheese on the "cold bar". The hot bar is still scrambled eggs, Mexican scrambled eggs, link sausage, patty sausage, bacon, frozen pancakes, French toast, strawberry topping, warm syrup, warm tomatoes, cheese sauce, biscuits & gravy and maybe a couple other run of the mill breakfast items. Everything looks good and is warmed to temp. My main complaint is that it isn't HOT. I'm disabled so I have trouble getting up & down constantly. I grabbed a couple plates thinking my food would at least stay warm long enough to eat it and this wasn't the case, it was barely warm when plated so it was cold by the time I went to eat it. I do have to admit, unlike many places, they don't water down the syrup to stretch it. Their syrup was still ooey gooey and thick when warm and a nice rich flavor, so I don't think they they go out of their way to take advantage of the customer. A little annoyed by the pricing since online I was seeing $9.99 & $10.49. When we arrived they started to give us menus but when they found out we were having the buffet they put them away so we didn't have any way to SEE what the prices were. Before cashing out we asked our server if there were any discounts we could download for coupons or anything to lesson our bill and she said she would ask the owner and let us know. She came back and said the owner said no. The server was going to suggest the "monster coupon guide" but both her & I checked that and there was nothing. The steak was absolute garbage. I think the menu said it was a sirloin but it tasted like cow taint. The eggs were eggs. The biscuits and grave were the best thing I had. The gravy had a generous helping of sausage in it and it didn't taste too greasy. The fruit cup was whatever. The excellent Chef here has been doing their Buffet for over ten years now. He is a total Award winner. This place will allow you to enjoy much more of the beach than just breakfast. It's also a good place to park and walk to the boardwalk. So when you eat here you not only get a good meal you get free parking. This place has been my go-to place for over 30 years coming to Myrtle Beach. They usually run the breakfast bar from about 6 a.m. through 2 p.m. during the season.
