I was so excited to finally try Paula Deen's restaurant! It was served family style and price was per a person, and all that you can eat. You choose between any main course and your sides. None of them disappointed! We got meatloaf, fried chicken, and southern fried pork chops with gravy. The fried pork chops with buttered green beans and the corn pudding were some of my favorites. We also got a slice of ooey gooey butter cake to go! The Paula Deen store is always a hit, so many cute items and lots of great kitchen gadgets to shop around for. Our entire family loved dinner here. The only thing we didn't like was how much food goes to waste since they don't provide to go boxes.

We came to the boardwalk for seafood, but unfortunately they didn't have that as an option, so we came to Paula's restaurant instead. I used to watch her cooking show all the time back when I had cable and food network. It was a pleasant surprise when we walked in that she was there!!! It was a long line to have her sign her cookbook and take a picture with her. Being pregnant and hungry, I settled for admiring her from afar, but I was stoked to see her and it made me more excited to try her restaurant. The shop is downstairs and the restaurant seating is on second floor. They have an elevator and an escalator that takes you up there. Our waiter explained to us the concept of the restaurant, which is like a family dining Buffet. You choose your price point by selecting the number of dishes you want to eat, and it is unlimited. We chose "The Savannah" which allowed us to get 3 meats and 4 sides. We ordered the fried chicken, catfish and ribs for our proteins, and the collard greens, mac and cheese, cheesy grits and fried okra as our sides. Whenever you want more, you simply tell your waiter to bring you another order of the particular side or protein you want. Since it is a buffet, keep in mind that you cannot take anything to go. I feel like our eyes were bigger than our stomach and we wasted so much food. Overall, the food was not as spectacular as I had imagined. It was bland "southern" food that lacked the soulfulness I expected. Everything could have used more seasoning. It was so disappointing! It made me think, did Paula actually go to the kitchen and taste this food? Because she surely would not approve and it has her name on it! The "best thing" if I had to say there was a best, was the fried chicken, grits and collard greens. The complimentary biscuits were thick and dry. The catfish was thin and fried too hard. The mac and cheese was watery. The ooey gooey butter cake was good, but very thin. I can say that unless they get a real southern chef that can throw down, I don't have to come again.

Great service. The ribs were fall off the bone. Yams and collards were very good. Fried chicken wasn't anything special to us. The cheddar biscuits are heavenly too.

We came just for dessert, not knowing that their normal fare is an all you can eat family style meal of $25 per person with 2 mains and 4 sides to share. They did let us only order dessert for $4 each. Portion sizes were small. Definately get the VANILLA Gooey butter cake. It is fantastic ! We tried the Chocolate gooey butter cake too, but it was a bit dry and not as good. It reminded me of a brownie. My friend ordered the "seasonal cobbler" and it was horrible. It was so bad, she asked to exchange it for the gooey butter cake. Not sure how the cobbler is "seasonal" when it seemed the peaches were from a can. We also thought it would have a pie-like crust but instead it had a doughy topping that was like congealed glue. Do not get this ! Our server was really nice. The restaurant is upstairs, while there is a gift shop downstairs. An escalator can take you up and down or there is an elevator available at the far right side corner of the gift shop. Surprisingly, the exact same gooey butter cake is for sale in the gift shop, so we didn't need to go to the restaurant afterall. They also had it available in a boxed mix.

Hubby and I have eaten here before, but the menu has changed a bit. They used to have chicken pot pie, now it's chicken and dumplings. Dessert used to be included, now it's $.99 extra if you order it. But it's still all delicious food!! We chose the "Savannah" which includes three meats and 4 sides. We chose chicken and dumplings, beef pot roast and fried chicken. We also had the Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and cheese grits. Service was great- fast and friendly. The ambiance is nice. We sat at a table near the huge windows overlooking the lake at Broadway At The Beach. The restaurant was, as always, clean and spacious. We ate our fill, enjoyed each other's company, and had a nice time. We will be back!! :)

Checked out the broadway and came across this restaurant. It's located upstairs from Paula Deen's store. This place is definitely unique as I've never tried something like this before. Essentially it's family style ayce, where we choose the option of 2 main dishes and 4 sides. It was a-lot of food! They started us off with buttery biscuits for the table. The fried okras were surprisingly good. Ribs fell off the bones, cream corn was pretty tasty, fried chicken wasn't dry, all good with the refreshing side salad. The potatoes were unfortunately too mushy, and the desserts were way too sweet. Overall it was decent with a lot of food, but the food obviously wasn't hot and fresh since they serve everyone in batches.

Butter Y'all. If you've never been to Paula Deen's it's surely worth it if you're in the area but I wouldn't make it a destination restaurant. The restaurant is above her store up stairs and you get a nice view of the lake at Broadway. The server was wonderful and always ready to bring over more food or refill our drinks. You can pick how many main dishes you want and we went with four: Chicken and Dumplings, Fried Catfish, Fried Chicken, and Chicken Fried Pork Chops. The best was the Chicken Dumplings. Possibly the best dumplings I've ever had. The Fried Catfish was good but could have been crisper. The Collard Greens were tasty (made with what I think was ham hocks). My wife's daughter-in-law, who came down from Kansas, never had collards and she liked them. Definitely try the creamed corn; creamy and sweet. It's delicious. Don't forget to check out the store downstairs. They have some unique items for your kitchen.

NO WAY lol this restaurant was EVERYTHING I wanted it to be. The gift shop alone honestly was a 10/10. We were seated RIGHT AWAY with no reservation- hostess was the NICEST. The food was purely southern comfort food- go hungry, eat a biscuit and prepare for a huge meal as it is all bottomless. It was exactly what we needed after a LONG day of travel!

Highlights of this visit, warm & friendly staff!!! Everyone greets you coming and going... Mgrs stop by the table checking to see if everything is good, our server was very sweet and willing to chat about our visit. The food is refillabe and served family-style - my favs from our meal were the Yams, Catfish and Mac & Cheese! And to walk it all off, I took a stroll through the gift store to find a culinary momento to add to my kitchen... today was a good day!

One of our favorites that we visit every time we are in town. It's unlimited food, family style for around $24 a person. That includes dessert as well, get the ooey gooey butter cake, just do it. The service is quick. There can be a wait to get in but it's worth it. The restaurant is very calm and relaxing compared to the business outside.

    Andy N.

Yep, this was good! The restaurant dining room is up an escalator and boasts a wonderful view of Broadway at the Beach. The server was attentive and friendly. Food was out within ten minutes. For a decent price, you get a family style meal with unlimited refills. The food was buffet quality, albeit tasty. Highlights include the grits, chicken and dumplings, macaroni and cheese, and the ooey gooey cake.

Paula Deen's Family Kitchen Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Paula Deen's Family Kitchen

Is it only family style or can each person do individual meals?

Only family style but you choose 2,3,or 4 meats with sides. Each time you order more the portions get smaller and you can't switch meats/sides when you reorder

I'm a party of one and wanted to know if I can call in an order to take out?

I feel pretty sure that you can.

Do they have a breakfast menu if go in at 11:00 a.m.? Trying to schedule an eventful Saturday or Sunday for Grandchildren visiting. Wanted to have a delightful meal at Paula Deen Restaurant, then talk to Santa?

Hi, Pat! We currently do not serve breakfast at this location. We only serve breakfast at our Pigeon Forge, TN location at this time. We hope you still choose to dine with us for lunch or dinner though!

We are a party of 5, 2 adults, 2 teens and 1 child, how much should we expect to pay? Also, can we make reservations? Thanks

Probably $200 with drinks & tax.

Can one person dine here alone? If so, how would that work?

Yes you can. Lunch was $17.99 per person and they will bring enough out for one and a half serving. If you want more they will glad fo it.

    How much does it cost?

Lunch was $19.99 per person. Lots of food, no to go boxes, and a lot of food wasted ?

    What are the hours?

    Breakfast 8-10:30, Lunch 11-4 and Dinner 4-Close

Luckily I saw a packed place on Mr. Joe White Avenue called Simply Southern Smokehouse. Place looked legit and had a full parking lot so I pulled in. There is only one way in and once you get in, the cashier is on the right with the $15 all you can eat buffet right next to it. The $15 also included all you can drink soft drinks, water and sweet tea. I paid my money and grabbed a plate and ran right up to the buffet. They start out light with vegetables and sides, working up to the main courses of fried chicken, fried fish, pulled pork, smoked chicken and some hot wings. After that, they had some mac & cheese, and then the desserts which was blueberry cobbler, peach cobbler, homemade banana pudding...and a couple of other things. I started off with some broad beans, stewed okra and tomatoes, smoked chicken and hot wings. I brought my plate and my silverware to an empty table, which was getting hard to find as the place was so packed and then went up to fetch me a glass of water to wash it down with. They serve Pepsi products and of course sweet tea but I was going to save my calories for dessert. The place was clean, well lit and the seating was well designed with booths along the wall and tables in the center... and plenty of room between the tables. Once seated I dug right in. The broad beans were excellent. Done right and full of flavor. The stewed tomatoes and okra, although cook correctly was a bit bland for my liking. The smoked chicken was excellent and I used a bit of the golden SC BBQ sauce on it...great...and homemade. The hot wings were the real deal meaty and moist with a nice kick. I finished the plate in about five minutes. Time for round two. On my second trip up, I put some collard greens, lima beans, a piece of fried chicken and a piece of fried fish on the fresh plate. As I sat down to eat, I put a bit of hot vinegar sauce on the collard greens and dug in. The collards were excellent and the homemade vinegar hot sauce gave it a bit of a kick and bite. The Lima beans were soft and loaded with flavor. I then moved on to the fried chicken, which was cooked correctly with the skin crispy and well battered and the meat moist on the inside. That said, it was bland. Given how well the beans were seasoned I was surprised. Same thing with the fish, but they had a real good house sauce for it which gave it a nice flavor and saved it, but overall both the fried chicken and the fried fish were bland. I then went up for a plate number three and realized I was not gonna be able to eat anymore mains, which was a shame since the pulled pork looked great... It will have to wait for the next time I come. I did, however leave a bit of room for dessert and I'm glad I did . The banana pudding was delicious with a full banana taste and 'Nilla wafers on top and bottom adding a bit of crunch. I only had enough room for one of the cobbler so I chose peach and it did not disappoint. Nice and warm with a sweet peach flavor and tasty crumbles. I wanted more but controlled myself. As I got up to leave, I placed five dollars on the table for the cleanup guy who was hustling and keeping the place neat and tidy. I then looked around and noticed this was a real local spot full of people from Myrtle Beach. You have families, elderly people, young people, construction workers and people from local businesses. For $15 it cannot be beat. Not only will I be back again but I plan on bringing some of my friends from up north who are going to love this place...plus I gotta try that pulled pork and Mac and cheese...if the fried chicken and fish have more seasoning, I'll up them to 5 stars.

It consisted of 2 deep fried soft shell crabs, 3 deep fried jumbo (and yes, they were actually jumbo) shrimp on top of a bed of various deep fried vegetables. Although the entire dish was deep-fried, it didn't feel heavy or greasy. And the batter chef Bo made mad it all sooooo flavorful! I ordered the granddaddy's grilled cheese. It was a very different take on grilled cheese, but also absolutely delightful!! I believe you can't go wrong with bacon and fig jam on sourdough bread. And for my side, I wanted something a little different so I ordered the sweet potato grits. Do yourself a favor and try them! They are rich and creamy and sweet but not too sweet... Perfect! As delicious as all that was, the showstopper was dessert. We had the lemon blueberry cake. There are not enough words to say how delicious this was! Dense, sweet, but also tar from the fresh lemon with fresh blueberries baked in with a perfect layer of cream cheese icing. I wanted to order another one just to take home. With so many good restaurants in the area, we usually try new places, but before heading home we decided it was time to stop in again for dinner. As usual, we try to go during happy hour when prices are a bit better, and we sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly she greeted us right away, handed us menus, and took our drink order. The menu had changed a bit since our last visit. My wife ordered a Coke, and I had an Old Fashioned. For food, my wife chose the Fried Crab Claws with fries, and I ordered the French Onion Soup along with the Pork Nachos from the happy hour menu. While we were waiting, the bartender asked where we were from. We told her Southern Maryland, and when I said Huntingtown, she immediately said, "That's where I'm from." That alone surprised us not many people even know where Huntingtown is. When we mentioned the road we live on, she said, "That's the road I turn on to my parents' house." This was the first time we've ever met a bartender or server over 400 miles from home who lived that close to us. Small world. Our food came out and my wife really enjoyed her crab claws -- I tried one and they were very good. My French onion soup had a nice, deep beef flavor and was very tasty, but after a few bites there was a heavy pepper bite that came through. It was still good, but I had to switch over and eat some of my nachos, which were also good, though different from how I remembered them. I think the BBQ sauce changed the flavor, and the lettuce (which I usually prefer without) was something I should have asked to leave off. I asked my wife to try the soup and mentioned the pepper and that it might be a little spicy. She agreed it was good but said it would be better if it wasn't so peppery. A little later, the chef came out and introduced himself, Bo. He asked how everything was going. I told him everything was good overall but mentioned the heavy pepper bite in the onion soup and asked if that was normal. He said it shouldn't be that strong and that it needed to be toned back. Bo then asked if we had ever tried Mama's Soup, the tomato vegetable soup on the menu. We hadn't, and he asked if we'd like to try it. Not long after, he brought us another bowl and said, "This is Mama's soup give it a try." It was a vegetable soup with hamburger and a tomato base, and it was so good. When he came back, he explained it was his own version of his mother's soup. We told him it would go perfectly with a gooey grilled cheese, and he laughed and said they actually have one on the menu. It was really nice of Chef Bo to come out, check on us, listened and know something wasn't quite right, and it's being taken care of. That kind of interaction truly makes dining out a better experience. It makes the place feel welcoming, like they genuinely want you there. Yes, we will return -- and we were told that Mama's soup is always on the menu.
