Was in Oaktown again so had to try another unusual spot. Been seeing things in the internet about Man vs Fries so had to try it. They don't seem to be very busy being a pop up restaurant. Place was empty and only a couple people working there but it looked clean so decided to give it a try. We got the Nor Cal burrito, So Cal burrito, Asada fries and deep fried Oreos. We split everything that way we could all try the different items. Nor Cal and Do Cal burrito were just ok. Too much filler in both and not enough meat. Also the Asada fries seemed very short on the meat too. Everything was made fresh so that was good , but all were lacking flavor. The best thing we had were the deep fried Oreos. They tasted just like the ones you would get at the county fair with a little less grease.

Was excited to try this place based off a post I saw on the Yelp East Bay Instagram page. Menu: When ordering from here, you'll have a good laugh at the menu from their options like "I HELLA Love a Side is Queso!" You also have options to add various toppings like hot Cheetos, bacon, onion rings, etc. It's not the healthiest menu, but the flavors make it worth the cheat meal, or regular meal. Food: If you're looking for a large meal for yourself, or a meal to share with someone else, this is your place. This meal lasted me through lunch, a mid-afternoon snack, and dinner. I originally wanted to order the Asada fries, but was given the option of pollo, so went with that. This to-go container was healing with fries, the toppings, and then even more fries. The fries alone were very flavorful ("seasoned straight fries"), but were made even better with the guacamole, other toppings, and the extra queso. Excited to try more items from this place like the NorCal Burrito or the Cali Crunch - all of the food looks so good!

What made the experience was the customer service. Yeser was on point with everything. Even brought the food out while I was waiting outside. 5 stars to Yeser. Food itself needs improvements, but not bad. It was $15.72 for 1 NorCal burrito. More like fast food rather than good quality food. It was about the same amount in foil and tortilla as it was in filling, but the fillings themselves were well seasoned. Could've had more guac, sour cream, and secret sauce, but the side of cheese sauce was alright. If anything, I would try the fries next time and avoid the extra foil and tortilla clumps. Overall, decent.

We were so excited to order from here finally because we have been wanting to try it for so long! Who doesn't want fries, hot Cheetos, secret sauce, quest, etc? We decided to order the Cali Crunch and the NorCal Asada fries. I really was hoping I would love the Cali Crunch but it had too many onions for my liking and that overpowered everything else. It also was not able to be picked up because it was so loosely put together - I'm not sure if that's how it is supposed to be but that made it a little hard to eat. I'm sure the NorCal fries that we ordered were good but they had actually made us the SoCal fries on accident. We weren't complaining too much though because those were definitely the highlight of our order. I'm not sure we'll be back here but I'm glad we got to try this place out! If we do go back, I think I'd try the Hella Dilla.

I hate to give Man vs. fries a 3!! Me and my little sister was excited to finally try the place . Come on now the reviews are basically outstanding !! Plus I love hot Cheetos .. Im damn near slobbering over myself looking at the menu y'all . So boom I order the asada fries w/hot Cheetos ( popular item) and my sister ordered the norcal burrito. We decided to dine in since it was empty (surprised) . Everything looking good y'all!!! Boom I'm like okay the guac is good, the steak is hot & Cheetos are fresh,not stale (better not be). Pauseeee here is the dilema, the fries are cold and not cooked fully !!! That just killed it Yelpers !! The shredded cheese didn't melt due to the fries being cold !! Same problem with my sisters burrito . I basically ate the carne, guac & hot Cheetos and left. I'm sure they would have fixed the problem but my patience decided to stay home yesterday. ‍ Look I'm not giving up though, I will be back to try a different item. Btw the servings are big enough for 2/3 people

If I had to sum this place up in one word, it'd be "foodgasm!" I got the burrito and the fried Oreos and they did NOT disappoint!!! People usually skimp on the fries when it comes to California burritos, but not Man vs Fries. I'm talking fries in every bite!!! Joselyn was the sweetest, she brought my food to my table and even kept the salsa coming. It's safe to say Ive found my weekly cheat meal

I love Man vs Fries, I've ordered delivery from here twice so far and counting! Usually uber eats discounts the delivery fee and convinces you to go get more of a good thing. The NorCal style burrito was calling me, something about putting fries into anything makes it a delicious masterpiece to me. And you get a huge serving of food goodness that'll last you another day or two. I've gotten it each time and never been unsatisfied with the hot crispy fries, loads of chicken and tasty toppings of sour cream, cheese, guacamole. I'm drooling about it just remembering and writing this review! And I had to get some good ole onion rings. They're huge, crispy, crunchy and juicy. Oh man, you have got to try them and then thank me for the rec! Another order that lasted a while was the asada fries which is heaven in its purest form. I chose curly fries with NorCal style with chicken, sour cream, guacamole and secret sauce. It came fresh out the bag and was so so filling and delicious! Definitely went into a happy food coma with that one. Highly recommend the whole menu, because I'm working my way through it! Also follow them on social, they do a great job with that and making you hungry any time of day.

I was so excited to try the SoCal burrito but I was so disappointed. The Hot Cheetos disintegrated in the burrito leaving it to be just MUSH. $17 for an angus beef SoCal burrito was really just ground beef. In all, it felt like I was eating a potato burrito because the fries made up most of the burrito.

So this is so sad... almost chipped my tooth on a so cal burrito. I am so unhappy about this and to top off cant even get someone on the phone regarding this. This is my second time (only to give it the benefit of the doubt) the first time we also had a bad experience. Dear management team, What are we going to do about this? How can you do better? Customer service was bad. I h ad made special requests on what I did not want on our meals - which was still added. Then the So Cal burrito had this black rectangular cube plastic thing that hurt. This place honestly should be illegal. They are not counting calories. They are counting flavor. and wow - there's alot of it! I thought I'd be cute and watch my figure, so I ordered the Texas Cowgirl Helladilla and ensured no meat was on it. This was by far probably the heaviest quesadilla I've ever had in my entire life. So much leftover I had it 3x. Each time....was better than the last. I'm still waiting to build up my tolerance. I thought I could take the challenge, but right now the score is: 0 Man. 1 Fries. Flaming crunch wrap vegetarian but has meat in it!

Bad customer service ordered two crunch wraps with out meat. I get the order back to my hotel excited to try it. And notice one of them says asada. We call and they offer to fix it. I bring both orders back they see the box says asada. They take that box. Remake my order with out meat. I wait she says it's ready. I asked her if she was sure that the other one did not have meat. She says yes I am sure. I take both orders drive back to my hotel. Sit down to eat with my wife. She takes a bite and THERE IS MEAT IN IT. CURRENTLY DRIVING BACK FOR REFUND!

We gave this place another try and it was amazing!! We ordered the following: Asada fries with crisscuts - OMG, my husband and I destroyed this. It was the perfect balance of flavors and textures. There was soooooo much meat! Pollo HellaDilla - VERY large portion and super tasty. Packed with so much meat and fries. Goes amazingly with that queso sauce. NorCal Burrito - since the asada fries were so damn good, we didn't leave room to try the burrito LOL. We can't wait to get into it though and I'll update my review once we do. All the portions were ginormous and delicious! We're really happy that we gave this place a shot and would highly recommend! read more

My husband and I both got the NorCal burrito delivered via Postmates. The burrito has cheese, avocado, carne asada, fries, and a secret sauce. It's really good and has a nice zingy flavor. It's also GINORMOUS. Newborn babies are smaller than this burrito. My only complaint was the fry to other ingredients ratio. There was so many fries in the burrito I felt like I only eating fries wrapped in a tortilla constantly. When I could get a mix of all the other ingredients I was happier. I also wasn't a huge fan of the queso sauce it tasted odd and like it was canned. But otherwise, a solid burrito place. read more

While many people may pass by this inconspicuous building, those who just walk by are passing a real hidden gem. The portions here are not for the faint of heart. I think I saw the biggest quesadilla I've ever seen in my life today. The Helladilla might be the most Californian thing I have ever eaten, with carne asada and cheese everywhere, it was a heavenly mess. Loved the atmosphere and the minimalist decor. I did Grubhub for this order‍ frys were soggy room temperature the chicken looked like cubes of pork and it tasted fire roasted. For the amount of money I spent I was very disappointed in the quality, my husband was not happy either.....and he knows fry's! Happens to be his favorite food he ordered a build your own and we had to pay extra for shredded cheese which by the way was barely put on the frys. I ordered the cowgirl frys those were flavorful but I ordered I side of cheese that was more like a thick flour the fryed cheesecake was the BIG disappointment for me. It tasted like cheesecake wrapped in a pancake. I might try man vs fry's if I sit in and eat! But never through Grubhub again read more

I picked up the Cookie Monster, Flamin' Cali Crunch, and the quesadilla. The food was excellent, the team quickly made my food to order and the restaurant is clean. I don't normally leave reviews but wanted to highlight how serious this establishment takes COVID safety, which I greatly appreciate. A couple came in and were not wearing masks as is required. The team politely informed them they needed to be wearing a mask and the situation quickly devolved with the gentleman swearing at the staff, calling the employee a "f**king b**ch" before they were told to leave. I want to commend the staff for enduring verbal abuse to protect everyone. I'm sorry you had to put up with such trash just for doing your job. Hang in there! read more

Mexican food, say hello to French fries. Found this place on Yelp (shoutout Yelp for the alley-oop) and got extra lucky because it's right around the corner from where I stay. I got the Texas Cowgirl Burrito (fries, onion rings, bacon, steak, cheese, and bbq sauce) and one of my daughters got the Helladilla (a huge quesadilla with fries inside). Both were hella big, and amazingly tasty. I plan to go back, because I pretty much wanna try the whole menu. On most things you can choose from chicken or steak, and straight-cut, waffle cut, or curly fries, and some stuff has flamin' hot Cheetos. They have some deserts too, I got my eye on these cookie dough bites for next time. Make sure to check this place out, they got pop-ups going in Oakland and Livermore. Not an appealing street but whatever it's East Oakland. Clean simple little set up and food looks delicious from reviews here on yelp, but I was kinda disappointed. The flavor lacked in my chicken bacon ranch fries..and my friends SoCal burrito was not that great either. Bought this as a munchie and it did not satisfy. I couldn't even eat half of my fries. Also the price is normal/average for this portion, but flavor lacked so much that I would've paid the same for half the portion if it actually had flavor. Kinda sucks we spent 32 dollars here. Green guacamole sauce was on point though. Maybe we'll try this another day in a few months to give it another shot. P.S. this was takeout but we dig into our food 15 minutes after ordered. read more

So let me start by saying they are usually good. I just got my order from door dash, and the order is so bad, here I am with the review. (I put a bad review and complaint on door dash, and now I'm putting one here, let's see if the manager cares enough about his customers, to reply to my poor experience.) I order Asada fries. I didn't get asada meat. just four tiny bits of burnt meat crust. ( That's gross.) I order guacamole , didn't get that! I notice my order was completed way too fast. - the food looks messy in the picture, cause I was looking for actual meat! I'm usually happy to ordering from this place. This place is a fat guys dream. Kept seeing it on doordash so I gave it a try. I got the NorCal burrito and it was fantastic. But FYI it can get messy, had to try my hardest not to get my work shirt dirty lol. My coworker got the helladilla she wasn't a fan though so I might recommend sticking to the burrito read more

Ordered the helladilla, omg cookies, and social asada nachos number one quesadilla was described as coming with "hella sides" including fries.. no fries no guacamole, no sour cream. Omg cookies are literally chips ahoy chocolate chip cookies Nachos came stale on regular nachos even though I paid extra for for flaming hot Doritos guacamole was brown the meat was hard unidentifiable and dry meat balls instead of actual carne asada or shredded beef and all sides were Missing. This place is a overpriced Taco Bell hit Taco Bell is better. This place isn't worth visiting and their social media is misleading. read more

Oh, my experience was not good. Delivery came early which was nice but the delivery guy had me walk to the car and grab my order. That was unpleasant. Food wise I had the Texas burrito. Meat was really dry submerged in bbq sauce, it was quite salty in a dreadful way. I also ordered the battered onion rings which was really soft, oily and no crunch remaining. It felt like it was made many hours ahead of time waiting for a customer to order for it. I question how this place have quite a number of good reviews. read more

When I took my first bite I was happy, but the only few reasons why I've rated it as a 3 is because I ordered a side of queso with my Cali Crunch and I didn't get it also the Cali crunch was a bit hot and was wondering since in the menu it didn't say there was anything spicy on it. So yummy!! Ordered a CA Burrito with no meat to make it veggie and it was so GOOD and filling. It arrived hot and delicious. Also got the battered cookies and they changed my life and my waistline. 10/10 would recommend. read more

I got the SoCal burrito. The concept is literally a stoner's dream. I was sad when I found the hot Cheetos to be extremely stale. It was so stale that it felt almost rubbery and hard to chew. For being a $13 burrito, I feel like it should be more fresh. The burrito IS huge though, but it's predominantly fries. The queso that came with the burrito IS delicious though, and I think that was the highlight of my meal. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I normally don't really post reviews (even when service is a little bad) but I feel like this one is warranted. I ordered a few things from the menu including the helladilla and the burrito and to say I was disappointed was an understatement. The burrito was basically a lot of fries with very little meat . Every time I took a bite all I tasted was fries.. the helladilla was ok but definitely not worth the money. Now the biggest problem I has was the fact that they advertise "steak". I ordered everything with steak and to my surprise I received Taco Bell ground beef.. Not only was the food bad but shortly after eating it me and my sister both got sick. The following day I called to speak with a manager. I was told I would get a call back the following day and that never happened. Please don't waste your money here, you would think customer service would be better when TWO people are paying $60 + to eat there. read more

I placed an order on doordash, they confirmed it at 10:40 and then cancel it almost at 11 because they're "closed" Yet they close at 11:50 and you can still order from doordash until 11:29 Wth? Not cool. I used to order from here but not anymore. read more

The meat was dry and they barely put anything on the asada fries. My food was extremely cold and dry like it had been sitting out for a while. The portions are too little for the amount you pay. It isn't bad tasting and the presentation is ok but they skimp on the food. I thought the steak would be stripped but it's chunked. Wouldn't buy again. read more

This place has incredible fries! Got to eat them in the car, you won't make it back to the house before they're done. The chicken burrito is also really good. The storefront is entirely black and nondescript so easy to miss, but worth it. Don't park in the bus lane. They will come and ticket you and then it's a $285 box of fries. I saw 2 ppl get ticketed last time I went. read more

When we first walked in, no other diners were there which made me a little suspicious. We were promptly seated and offered hot tea though so we were locked in. I initially ordered to seafood claypot but was told it takes 45 minutes...so pivoted to chicken wonton soup (no noodles). My partner got kung pao chicken. while we waited for our food, a handful of people came in to pick up their to go orders, which made me feel better. Another party eventually dined in as well. Fyi the interior isn't much to write home about but comfortable. Then the food came. My soup was freaking delicious! Loads of chicken meat (just chopped up with the bones so be careful for shards), plenty of dumplings, and the broth was sooo good! I couldn't finish and took some left overs home; the next day, my soup coagulated (full of collagen)!! Partner enjoyed their kung Pao chicken but said they'd order something else next time. Best part - our meals + tax came out to less than $40! Gawd I love Chinatown!

Everything came out fresh and hot, very delicious. I used to come here when I worked in the area, so it's very nostalgic. I highly recommend this place and would come back again!

This restaurant transforms the ordinary act of eating into an extraordinary experience! It may look like your average neighborhood Mexican joint, but it's not. I wandered in with two friends and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and incredible aroma of Mexican food. The restaurant was filling up quickly (it was almost 12:00 pm), but we managed to snag a table. We ordered the Helladilla (so GOOD) and SoCal Burrito (OMG so YUMM) and OMG Oreos and Cheesecake for dessert!! The quality, freshness and taste of the food is what sets this place apart. I really cannot get enough and will be back to try everything on the menu!!!! read more

I came here about two weeks ago and OMG ! I was inlove - the moment my family walked in the smell was amazing !! We ended up getting the nachos burritos some with hot Cheetos and some without along with the curly fries with everything on it. Everything was so good, even when I was full I didn't want to stop eating the workers were super nice and friendly and quick to serve us .. Before and early in the pandemic we were regular customers. We decided to give this place a visit now that things have calmed down with the whole COVID pandemic. We came in and were not greeted. Besides the fact that we were the only customers in the building, no one approached us to take our order. Once we got our order I noticed fries that had been sitting there a while had been used for my order. My meal was not freshly made. Everything was stale, dry and salty. I keep calling the Oakland location and NOBODY ever answers the phone! What is going on with customer service? The workers act like they do not want to work! I show up and people are on their phones while touching food... The proportions are out of wack. A skinny burrito 80% soggy old fries and was given chicken when I ordered beef. I knew I should have left the moment I saw employees on their phone. Spent over 50$ for terrible service. Take your money elsewhere. read more

We love this place!! Man vs. Fries serve ups an innovative menu of authentic Mexican food and seasonal ingredients. This place will definitely become a regular and we are hoping they stay here. The extreme hospitality at this place-- confident, knowing, comforting -- feels genuine. No doubt, it springs from the closeness of the team. The portions were generous. Worst customer service! Came by the Oakland location a few days ago in the morning. Staff was rude and lazy. I was ignored and stood awhile, waiting to be attended to. My fries were cold. The meat was pink and salty. I won't be ordering from here anymore, this place used to be good. Place looks unsanitary. Their "queso" now tastes like water and milk.. disgusting. read more

Perhaps a little biased, as my student's dad is the owner. With that being said, the food is as delicious as it is unique. Had the Helladilla and literally all of the desserts. They deep fry everything, so you can't go wrong. Perfect blend of Mexican and American comfort food. Now stop reading, get off yelp, and go support your local Oakland businesses! read more

Asada fries on fleek. Hands down love this spot. Hella items with hot Cheetos, California burritos are huge. Got some dessert too like fried cheesecake or was bomb. read more
