Their yum woon sen tasted like they used bottled lime juice instead of fresh lime, had very little flavor. They didn't have the plum sauce for their crispy wontons as advertises and did not mention that the sauce was being made when we purchased it instead of advising us that it would take a while. Not sure if I believe most of the reviews for this place based off of my experience. I'd say if you are looking for authentic? This place may not be it. This place gets busy on Friday night but my order was ready within about 45 minutes. Really cute interior and outdoor seating so I would try staying to eat there sometime. Walking down Pine St and saw the sign, I forgot that I've been meaning to try this place out, so I stopped in my tracks and thought I would do some take out for dinner later. Nice looking interior, clean, modern, tidy and very inviting. I like that you go up to the counter to order then you can sit whereever. Nice selection of items to choose from, so it was tough to decide. I went with a Papaya Salad Set and tried my gateway dish of Pad See Ew w/beef. Papaya Salad was very tasty, fresh, plenty of flavors and comes with a little glob of sticky rice to soak up the goodies on the bottom of the box. Pad See Ew was ok, but it did have big pieces of the wide rice noodles and good amount of meat & veg. Wasn't as flavorful as I thought it would be as it looked more visually delicious. Everything seemed to be made to order, doing take-out took about 10 or so minutes to make. I didnt mind waiting as I got a chance to look at the menu longer for my next visit. They packed my to-go order with a side of hot sauce and dried chilis, so that was a nice touch. Staff was very nice & friendly which made me want to come back and try other items. You HAVE to eat here if you're in Cap Hill. I've never eaten Thai food with such a diverse, delicious set of sauces. We love (like I've eaten it 2x this week) the pad see ew with tofu, Chinese broccoli with tofu, and the green beans! I'm not as into the curry (not as many veggies, just sauce) but the noodles are to die for. It's a small place but they're very fast and it's mainly self service (yay). I have been posting so many 5 star reviews lately, but Manao was not about to let me buck the trend! I've eaten take out from Manao many times, whether from Postmates or friends grabbing to-go and it is always delicious. I got really hooked on their crispy rolls, but the fried tofu, crispy thai wings and fresh rolls are great options for a starter. The menu says there are 2 fresh rolls, but they cut them in half so it is more than enough to share with one person if you are starving, or as a group app where each friend gets a nibble. The wings come with a large order, so perfect for sharing. I've never seen the sauce that comes with the fresh roll anywhere else. Friends seem to like it! My favorite dishes to order here are anything pork belly. They make it as crisp and crunchy as bacon and it is amazing. You cannot go wrong ordering it. The sauces and veggies accompanying (Chinese broccoli or basil and green beans) are tender crisp and are also great vehicles for the savory, dark sauce. Try a new kind of rice! Their brown rice is really dark and tender, not the short grain brown rice I make at home. Yellow rice is delicious as well. Last night I finally dined in and had a pear sake along with phad grapau w/ fried egg(ORDER THIS! It is made with chicken and basil, and isn't spicy so even newbies to Thai food or spice sensitive people will enjoy) and when they say the egg is fried it is DEEP FRIED. YUM; sliced chicken breast (maybe it was fish?) in a great sauce, fresh rolls, thai wings, a spicy beef soup... Everything was fresh and beautiful. I left very full and happy. A nice new edition to Cap Hill! This place has a different vibe than most other Thai places. In other words, there is a hipster feel to it. The thai iced tea comes in these large glass jugs. The drink was good though. Here, when you come in, you order and pay first and then sit down. The staff member will give you a block with a number on it and you put the block on the corner of your table so that the server will be able to see it and bring you yo food. The setup is one of those open kitchen arrangements, which seems to be a thing these days. I don't know why. One thing that I should mention: the service is INSANELY FAST! The last couple of times I came here and ordered 3 dishes---they all came out in 5 minutes. Mindboggling. Here's what I had: 1) Crispy Pork Belly with Chinese Broccoli = nicely flavored but I honestly prefer Cantonese-style roasted pork more. The pork belly dish here has less fat on it, so the taste may be a little bit more on the drier side. Most people seem to like it though. 2) Pad Kee Mao = very good! Not too oily but plenty of flavor. And also, unlike most other Thai places, Manao does not do the spiciness level system with your dishes. That is why your table will have chilli pepper flakes if your spicy self needs some spiciness in your food. 3) Curry (pork but I forgot which kind of curry) = super unique! We got the "wild rice" option, which is like a mix between brown rice (yuck) and purple rice that you see in Korean and Taiwanese food. Definitely your typical Thai curry with a slight twist. This is only my second time eating Thai Food but this place is delicious and FUN! The restaurant has the most beautiful and modern decor with a huge counter of spices. You take your own seat and order at the counter and they bring the food to you. The menu is jam packed with delicious items. It was so hard to pick. I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice and the Pad Thai Noodles. Everything was so delicious. The Pineapple Fried Rice has the most delicious combo of flavor but not too sweet. All the plates are shareable so we shared all our plates. To make everything better they offer coconut water but from an actual coconut. This place serves the typical Thai restaurant staples. The atmosphere is more casual and trendy. With "street eats" in the name I expected smaller, lighter portions, but it's a full entree size. I was a little disappointed to fine ordinary menu items. We got the Khao Soi and the wings to split and a Thai ice tea. The food was good and tasty. The wings were tangy, salty and crispy. A portion comes with 5 wings. It came after or Khao Soi so I can't really classify it as an appetizer, but it was good. The Khao Soi was rich and filling. The pickled greens and fried egg noodles gave it a nice texture. The Thai tea was really good. It's a large glass, so it's shareable. Grab a table or seat, supposedly, there is no need to wait to be seated. I was confused whether we were waiting to be seated or if we just choose a table and sit. The second choice seemed to be what most people did. There were no available seats and the cashier simply told us to just find a table and wait, as if it wasn't obvious enough. Despite of the bad intro, the Thai food here is prepared differently. My SO and I were under the impression some of their foods will be saucy, but that wasn't the case. We ordered the Pad Thai and the Basil Fried Rice. Both were excellent choices, and they are really generous with their portions. I would say those two choices were safe bets. In their restaurant it includes tables to be seated or a counter for those simply wanting to independently eat on their own. After you've ordered, you receive your recipe, an empty glass, and a linen napkin. Their tables included glass water bottles and a spice rack. The place itself looks a bit hipster like, but other than that, a pleasant experience. Not the greatest, but it'll satisfy Thai food cravings. read more

But grab a full menu and see the pictures bc some stuff comes with meat but you wouldn't know that from the board. My spicey cashew dish could have been spicier to earn the name. I've been here three times now and really enjoy this Thai restaurant! It's located in Capitol Hill and had a great interior. I've gotten Pad Kee Mao with chicken every time because it's my favorite! The second time around we ended up getting the Thai tea and fried pork belly appetizer with plum sauce. The pork was so juicy and EXTREMELY crunchy, paired with the sweet plum sauce it was so irresistible! The Thai tea was just like any other Thai tea, it comes in a huge pineapple like mason jar, which is actually kind of cute. The portions here are out of this world for what you pay for (only ~10-15$ each person really!). I always leave full and satisfied, and with a togo box!! Ive only ever walked here, but there is street parking for those who want to drive over. They are also very popular on Caviar and other food delivery services (not postmates though.. ) Definitely planning on coming back often. read more

I frequently order take-out from Manao via Caviar, but have stopped in a handful of times to eat in the restaurant as well. Everything on the menu is delicious - my favorite is the pad see ew but the pad thai and green curry rank among my favorites dishes. I usually find pad thai a bit too bland for me, but Manao's is particularly full of flavor and a yum gluten-free alternative to the pad see ew. My only complaint is that I wish the dishes were a bit bigger for the price, and so I could eat more of it in one go. While the staff is pretty friendly, they can also be very busy and may need your patience. I've found there can be a bit of a line during peak times, so I strongly recommend ordering for pick-up in advance if you're looking for dinner around 6pm. Stop in on the weekend for a late lunch, though, and you'll find a delightfully peaceful oasis on the hill. read more

Since I've been WFH during the pandemic, Manao has become my favorite quick lunch during the week. The service is friendly, fast, and professional. Affordable enough for a weekday lunch. My favorites are the pad see ew and basil fried rice. However, I try not to order at peak dinner hours anymore. I find that the food is inconsistent at that time when the kitchen staff is overwhelmed by the volume of orders. I'm personally not a fan of the fresh rolls here. Manao Thai Street Eats is where you go when you want some quick, not-too-pricey, and delicious Thai food. We came on a Monday night around 7pm, and the restaurant was about hall-full. The restaurant is decently spacious, with the kitchen and counter in the middle of the restaurant and table seating around on three sides of the room. You order at the counter and then choose your own seating. There was still a line, but it was only about a 5-10 minute wait. I really liked their wooden menu boards that you can look at while waiting in line; it was the first time I've seen such effort put into menus! I had the $6 Crispy Rolls appetizer (4 rolls) and the $12 Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken. The crispy rolls were indeed (heard this is the name of a cool company) crispy and tasted great; I'd recommend trying them for yourself or splitting the order between two people. The pineapple fried rice was incredibly flavorful. It tasted like a classic fried rice dish with lots of flavors and textures. The chicken wasn't too dry and the pineapple provided a refreshing soft texture and fruity taste that complemented the fried rice very well. Wow! I have not had decent Thai food for awhile and Manao was the perfect fix. The place is a self service. Just order at the cashier and they will bring over your food. You bus your own tables as well. Don't wait at the door thinking a waiter will come by! We were stuck behind a group that thought a waiter would come by and we had to awkwardly tell them that they've been waiting for the past half hour in vain. I ordered the Spicy Eggplant and chicken with white jasmine rice and BF got the green curry fried rice with fried tofu. Both dishes were very good! I loved the spicy and sweet combination in my dish and the rice was so fluffy and warm-cooked to perfection! The fried rice was also great! The spices in the curry tasted very authentic.
