I've walked by this place many times but never tried it because it looks sketchy as hell, until today. And I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. The place was super busy which I wasn't expecting but the food still came out really quickly. It seems like this place has a small cult following due to the fast food and relatively good prices. I got the garlic spicy chicken with gyoza. The gyoza were just standard supermarket gyoza so nothing exciting there, but the chicken was pretty good. The chicken was tender, nicely fatty, and had a great amount of char that I love on teriyaki. The spicy sauce was like a mixture of teriyaki and gochujang, it had a good balance of sweet and salty and was lightly spicy. The garlic sauce added creaminess and lots of garlic flavor which I loved. My only complaint is the lack of vegetables. Eating a plate full of meat and rice is satisfying but I know my gut will regret it later. I also refuse to pay for steamed broccoli and replacing the rice for salad would make me a heathen. read more

This is a hole in the wall teriyaki restaurant specializing specifically in chicken teriyaki. They have a fairly small menu with a few other entrees, but the chicken is the star of the show. I recommend ordering ahead online and then picking up. (There are some tables for dining in but the majority of orders seem to be take out). They have a very efficient system with some airport-style reader boards to let you know where your order is in line. For being in Cascade/South Lake Union, it's quite affordable. read more

First of all...I am beyond shocked at the rating of this place. I'm convinced ppl are rating it low so they can gate-keep this hidden gem. I am OBSESSED with this place! I didn't even like teriyaki before I tried Midori and now I order it at least once a week when I work from home (spicy garlic chicken combo..). One of the reasons I didn't like teriyaki before is bc I am picky about meat and previous teriyaki experiences often had fatty pieces that freaked me out, and/or, I felt like the sauce was dumped on at the end and it didn't have enough time to develop a rich flavor. The place is pretty roomy and the service is self serve vi iPad but there's a nice lady that welcomes you. They have combos that include the meat, rice, and either gyoza (4 pc) or egg roll (1 pc) or you can just get the meat/rice by itself for a bit cheaper. We went for one fried chicken combo and one basic chicken teriyaki. The large portion and reasonable prices make the value of this place that much more great. My partner got the general Tso chicken once and I really liked it; it was on the sweeter side, sticky, and crispy. It really hit the spot for me on my general tso craving, which I've been having trouble finding in Seattle. I wish they offered a combo with half spicy garlic chicken and half general tso! Midori is nearly a perfect illustration of the critic's conundrum: should I be grateful that I got a stingy portion of mediocre food? Or should I desire generosity, even if the food is forgettable? I say "nearly," because the prices pretty much settle the score: they are just high enough to make you look with disappointment at what you're handed. The restaurant itself is tiny, aged, and far from the cleanest, but the techies from nearby Amazon and Facebook don't seem to care much. On my first visit, I tried the crispy chicken special. The breaded chicken nuggets had been over-fried, and were tough and sinewy, especially around the edges. When I got back to my desk and snapped open my take-out clamshell, I grieved to find the nuggets had been squirted not only with teriyaki sauce, but mayonnaise tinged pink with ketchup or something. It was disgusting. Scraping the mayonnaise off did little to redeem it; it was compost the instant they picked up the mayo bottle. My next two visits, just got a side of steamed rice to go with leftovers. One small scoop of rice, $2.75. Welcome to Seattle, I guess. It's either gooey from overcooking, with broken grains throughout, or you can risk breaking your bridgework on pebble-hard grains of undercooked or desiccated rice. How can you screw up steamed rice? I don't know, ask them. Final visit, picked up plain-vanilla teriyaki chicken. A middling portion of tough, overcooked, fatty chicken, dull sauce, and broken, tired rice (do I keep getting scrapings from the bottom of the steamer or what?) blinked up at me from the clamshell.
