This was unlike any Thai food I had ever had before, and not in a good way. We got four dishes: tom yum, papaya salad, jungle curry, Phad Cha seafood. The tom yum was unusually sweet. There was some lemongrass flavor but not much. It lacked the sour pungency I expect from tom yum. The papaya in the salad was good but the dressing was boring. Almost no spice and I would guess had no fish sauce in it. It was just cold papaya and some sugar. I think its a testament to papaya salad that even the most boring version still tastes good. Jungle curry and phad cha seafood were both fine, but a little bland. The phad cha was listed as the spiciest thing on the menu, and had barely any heat. I expect this is what thai food is like if your goal is to make it without sour, heat, or fish sauce. As someone who loves those things about thai food, Manao thai was a disappointment. read more

Love this place! I think this my ultimate favorite Thai place in Seattle. A bit more expensive, because it is in Cap Hill, but totally worth it. They use good Ingredients and the cooking is authentic. They also have ACTUAL VEGETARIAN options! Not just replacing the protein with tofu, but they can give you vegetarian options with out fish sauce, etc if requested. This is awesome! There are so many Thai places that I have been to and have tried to ask the question of... is this vegetarian and never really getting a straight/clear answer. I love that I can eat here worry free. My friend and I ordered the chicken satay, summer roll to share and he got the chicken curry (there was no rating/star for how spicy he wanted, he thought it was too spicy, but it wasn't all that bad). I usually don't leave reviews but this will be my new go-to for Thai food! I ordered phad see ew and the herbal crispy chicken and will have a hard time branching out because they were just so good. Phad see ew was a large portion (2-3 meals for me), well-priced and extremely flavorful. The meat and greens specifically were so flavorful which was unexpected. The crispy chicken had a ton of flavor as well and while a smaller portion than the phad see ew, it will still be 2 meals for me and I thought the price was totally reasonable yet again! I placed an order through caviar and the quality was amazing even with take-out. Overall I would 100% try this place if you're thinking about it, I'm so glad I finally did!! read more

I came here for lunch a few weeks ago with a few coworkers. It wasn't busy at the time and we were able to snag a big table, which was really convenient during out short lunch break. Food - I got the Chinese broccoli w/pork belly. It was delicious and flavorful. The pork belly got to be a bit much after a while (one can only consumer so much chunks of fat during one meal), so I only at about half of the meal. I saved the leftovers for the next day, which made me happy. Others in my group got curry and really enjoyed it. Someone got Pad See Ew as that was her favorite and go-to on the menu. Lastly, someone tried the Khao Soi and demolished it. Overall, great menu! Service was good, the establishment was clean and decorated tastefully and modern. Indoor and outdoor seating for the two months of the year the weather is nice ;) Definitely recommend and will return. read more

Average priced food, decent portions, and average customer service. I had placed a takeout order for a beef Pad See Ew around 6 PM on a Monday. I love ordering food from a delivery service called Caviar. When choosing where to order delivery or takeout on Caviar, I always check the ratings on Yelp before ordering from a restaurant. Since I can't tell whether or not a restaurant is sanitary without visiting the establishment, I rely on my fellow Yelpers' reviews when ordering takeout. Manao has a 4 star rating, and all the Pad See Ew ratings were really high. I had high expectations for this place. Upon entering the restaurant, it was somewhat busy for a Monday. A decent amount of the tables were filled, and I was 4th in line. Long lines and filled tables, that's usually a good sign. Although I didn't dine in, I noticed that there aren't any servers. Everybody places an order at the counter, and then you choose your own seat in the restaurant. I've never seen a Thai restaurant serve like that, but to each their own. The cashier looked extremely overwhelmed. Their phones were ringing nonstop for takeout orders, so he was managing the phones while working the front. I feel like they should hire more people because he genuinely seemed like he was out of breath. When it was my turn, he got a call and took the call first before assisting me. I didn't really mind much, and I understood that they were busy. When he was done taking the call, I informed him that I had a takeout order. He turned around, grabbed my order, handed it to me, and walked away. Not even a thank you, or a you're good to go. I had already paid through Caviar, but I wasn't sure if I needed to sign or anything. He walked away, so I assumed that I was good to go. I thought that it was kind of rude of him to just hand me my food and walk away without saying anything. Oh well. The Pad See Ew was pretty good, but the beef was extremely tough, chewy, and dry. I had put in a request for the Pad See Ew to be 2 stars in the spice level, but they ignored my request and gave me 0 heat. I don't know if they don't add spice levels like traditional Thai places, but it made the Pad See Ew less enjoyable for me. The noodles were soft, and the sauce was really good. The only downside is that the noodles were extremely over oiled. When I finished the food, there was a small pool of oil left in the container. A lot of people on Yelp were raving about the portion sizes here, but I thought that it was decent at most. I've had plenty of other Thai places give out way bigger portions. I was able to finish the food in one sitting, so it was for sure not that big of a portion. I know that some restaurants give you smaller portions when doing takeout, so that might've been the case. Overall, I probably won't be back. $12.11 for a dry beef Pad See Ew was not worth it. It always sucks when your protein is over cooked. :/ If they were able to nail the beef and use less oil, this place would've gotten 4 stars from me. Really liked this spot for Thai food! They have all your standard favorites, some items you don't always find at other places (khao soi, graw pao, etc), and some things that seem to be their own creations. I ordered pick-up since I live nearby and thought that was easiest. I ordered and completely online, which I really appreciated. No delivery from this place. When you go to the restaurant you have to still wait in the same line as everyone else, they don't have a pick-up line, which is a little annoying. This place gets busy so be sure to order ahead if you're doing to-go. The restaurant is a good size and had indoor and outdoor seating. There were a fair number of people there when I went but it was pretty quiet in terms of noise and they don't play loud music. The inside is dimly lit and has a nice ambiance. You order at the counter here and they bring the food to your table. This place is owned and run by Thai people, which is always a good sign. We ordered the basil fried rice with extra veggies and the pad see ew with extra veggies. The extra veggies they give you are kind of whack - it's not extra veggies of what they actually use in the dish, rather an assortment of carrots, broccoli, and mushrooms. It still tastes good, just a heads up. Aside from that I thought the flavors here were spot on and both these dishes held up well in takeout format. The chicken in the pad see ew was cooked particularly well, so props to them for making small pieces of stir fried chicken really exciting. I love this place and I am glad that I don't live in the apartment on top of Manao because I'd be eating their food every day. So maybe 1-2 times a week, I'd walk to pick up food here. While I can't speak to the food at Manao I can speak to the quality of service. My girl friends and I had dinner down the street and walked by here and stopped in for a drink. My husband had texted me because he needed ginger for cocktails and I had forgotten to get him any at the store. It being a Thai restaurant I had the brilliant idea to ask them if they had any ginger I could purchase. They laughed but went in back to look for me and came back with a huge chunk. Been here a couple times now, and I'm very happy to have this place, so close to home. Their menu items feel a bit more fusion to me, but the flavours of the food taste pretty authentic. Try the Crispy Pork belly either by itself or stir fry with basil. It's delicious! And if you're feeling noodley, then go with the Pad Thai or the Pad See Ewe. This is the only Thai restaurant that I know of that doesn't cook with chili peppers. I asked for medium when ordering but the girl didn't tell me. I was wondering why this is so bland when eating, then I overheard the girl telling another customer that they don't do spice level, customers are supposed to add chili powder on top - which in my opinions is nothing compared to cooking with chili pepper. I had asked about what was vegan vs vegetarian in their menu and assumed they could just leave our egg to make everything vegan, but they said they use shrimp paste. WHICH IS NOT VEGETARIAN. The dressing on the cucumber salad was the first sign that these cooks know what they're doing. The heat from the thick and chewy Pad Kee Mao noodles blends beautifully into the savory vegetables and bright, lightly fried basil. The Thai tea is very good - not too sweet - can be served with coconut milk upon request and is the perfect salve for the bird's-eye spice. Oh the Chillis and lime!! Manao is all thing Cap hill and cool. I walked by this place few weeks ago and I was excited to try. It's bright, clean, crisp with menus written on the board. And their 24 oz Thai ice coffee in a mason jar!!! yumm! All the dishes are around $10- $12. Larb gai - I'm a sucker for thai salads. Almost all the thai salads and I eat them quite often. I got it with chicken!This one needed more spice! They don't do stars level but they have spices. The day I went though, they didn't have thai chillis. Either that or I didn't see it! But to be fair, I was doing a take out. Som tom aka papaya salad came with sticky rice. Very blend tasting. Either that or I'm used to a lot more flavors ( fish sauce, lime juice extra) Pad kee mao was probably the biggest portion I've received from this place. Nice and burnt! Everything else is pretty small. Tasty but small! Pork belly with crispy basil- this is what I had today and probably my favorite dish from here! I'm glad I tried it.
