My friend and I dropped by around 7:00 PM on a Friday night and the place was popping. We put our…read morenames down on the list and were told it would take an hour to be seated. We first went up to the 21+ bar area on the top deck where they were playing live music. It was too crowded and loud for me, so we went down to the bar downstairs. Our bartender was nice and got us our drinks right away. I got the SOBER STRAWBERRY drink which was fine just a bit too tart for me. After only around 20 or so minutes we got a text that our table was ready so we went over to grab it. When we sat down, service unfortunately took a turn and it took forever to get our orders in, get our food, etc. We ordered a few items to share: -CLAM CHOWDER: Chowder flavor was good and a nice portion. -BEET SALAD: The beets were nice and tasty and went well with the greens and dressing. -MUSSELS: Flavor was fine. There were some that weren't cooked as well, also a lot of sand in some of the mussels as well. They did also have a few toasted bread slices to dip into the broth which is always a nice touch. All in all, an ok spot for a bite to eat but wish service could have been stronger.

I've gone to The Deck quite a few times! Every time has been pretty good. I got a mojito this time…read morearound and the scallop appetizer. It honestly is big enough for an entree! It came with pork belly and cauliflower purée with a chimichurri. It was cooked really well but the scallops were a little gritty (I don't know why!). The drink was strong but tasted great! Our waitress was super attentive and the food came out quickly. And of course, who doesn't love the view? Sadly when I went, it was cloudy! But that's okay because then that meant there was no wait (usually the wait is so long). And it was cool, not too hot. Honestly ideal! I always come back, but I do wish the menu was a bit more expansive.

One of the great traditions of Newburyport is the Starboard Galley. My wife's family has gone to it…read morefor nearly 40 years. It is old school. It is one of a handful of restaurants in Newburyport that continued strong (Park Lunch, the Grog, Thirsty Whale). It has a view of the Merrimac river and is next to the rail trail. The inside decor is classic and probably hasn't changed in decades, but it is comfortable and has that Oceanside charm. The service is always good. Christin has been our server a couple times and she is wonderful - funny, attentive and suggestions. You're always seated quickly. We sat on the outside, covered seating. The food is classic. We started with their clam chowder. That is excellent. The stuffed clams are probably the best in Newburyport. The iceberg wedge salad is amazing with generous blue cheese and bacon on a nice crispy wedge. Probably one of the best values in Newburyport. The onion rings are crispy and tasty. The fried clams are some of the best in the city. You can get a Budweiser for under six dollars. The prices are a good value with lots of good food. Don't expect fancy. But if you want to have an old school seafood meal, the Starboard Galley is the right place. If you want to grab a beer at there, old bar, enjoy it at a great price point.

I should have known what we were getting into by the smell of old seafood when you walk in. I'm ok…read morewith old school charm but this place is just a dump. We ordered the mussels and fish and chips. The mussels were over cooked and the white wine broth had the flavor of dishwater. Definitely the worst mussel broth I've ever had. The fish and chips were cooked properly. Meaning the fish itself was decent but the batter was flavorless. The chips were soggy. The price point is that of a good restaurant. Any other choice would be a better choice.

If I could give 1/2 stars, I would go for 3.5 stars for this restaurant. It had enough good that I…read morewould go back to try other things in the future but I'm not in a rush to do so. I had the tropical grilled salmon. It had a nice fresh pineapple salsa that had a spicy kick to it. Salmon was nicely grilled and mashed potatoes were under seasoned. My dinner was ok but I wouldn't order it again. We did not like the fruit punch margarita. We will have to try something different next time. Our server was very attentive although she was going back and forth between inside and outside customers. This location has a nice outdoor patio with fire pits and heat lamps that we enjoyed. The also have bathrooms accessible outside so you don't need to go inside to use them. Place is easy to find off the highway and they have plenty of parking.

First impression was a clean and organized place with a nice outdoor seating area. I decided on the Fisherman's Plate!! Well fried and plenty of haddock, shrimp, whole belly clams and scallops. Served with fries AND onion rings! Also ordered the Fruit Punch Margarita to wash it all down. The seafood was under seasoned but the salt and pepper buried in the bucket of utensils and napkins quickly took care of that. The tartar sauce was more like a dill dip, not a hit for me. The coleslaw was also under seasoned and the dressing had no flavor, seemed like minimal effort was made with it. Perhaps my least favorite was the Margarita. The overall flavor was bitter and was almost undrinkable. Overall if you're looking for value, I.e. lots of food for a good price, you've found your spot!
