Celebrated a birthday here and had such a great time. The vibe at Teakwood is warm, lively, and perfect for a group dinner. The tea leaf salad was a standout with the tableside prep, and we also loved the buttery roti palata, the star was the plancha calamari...Love! Perfectly cooked steak, and whole branzino. Everything felt flavorful and well done, from the calamari to the noodles, and even the ginger honey tea was amazing. Service was friendly and attentive all night...Definitely a spot I'd come back to.

The good: 1. At least 4 booths for comfortable seating instead of elbow-to-elbow-no conversation possible tables 2. Tofu and shrimp options 3. Attentive, menu-savvy staff The question mark: 1. No ice offered (I personally dislike room temperature water) 2. Tofu dish mostly made of onion and bell peppers (I wanted protein) 3. Generous rice portions (I prefer less rice more protein) 4. Below average side salad (all I could taste was great cherry tomatoes and peanuts). I wanted to taste their famous tea leaf dressing and dried shrimp but the salad was watery to say the least 5. Samosas were DRY overall food impression: meh

I had a pretty awesome dinner here. The duck curry and the rice was amazing. I can still taste the soy sauce. The service was very friendly and very attentive to my wishes. The ambiance of the restaurant was great too. ! I highly recommend this restaurant. I wish I could give them 100 stars !

This is a fabulous and beautiful place to go before or after a show. Service was lovely with a smile. Matt was our server. We were able to catch some happy hour specials. We ordered a few drinks which were all delish! I had the Lychee Express which may look and sound like your run of the mill "lychee martini," but this one is a total upgrade - handcrafted with love. It's delicate and delicious. We ordered: Roti Platha - two of them because, yes, it's that good! The dipping sauce is pure gold!! And the roti is crisp, not soggy. Tea Leaf Salad - bomb! Always bomb! Again, it's a step up from other tea leaf salads I've ever had at any Burmese restaurant. Garlic Noodles with tofu - good! Lemongrass Steak - plated different but still very good! Lots of flavor and cooked medium rare. Chicken Satay - tender flavorful chicken Hen of the Wood - my favorite! I love this dish and they do it well! For dessert: Mango Sticky Rice - plated differently from when I was there last. Still delicious. Thai Tea Chocolate Mousse Cake - decadent yet not too rich. Great Thai tea flavor. That ice cream is mind blowing. Amazingly rich chocolate flavor! Will always come back if I'm in the area.

Great food & drinks. We had happy hour & shared the eggplant dish w/a side of coconut rice.

Teakwood must be one of the " in " restaurants in Hayes Valley. Very busy place! Just a block or so from the SF Symphony, Opéra, Ballet, etc (the performing arts epicenter), the restaurant serves contemporary Burmese food and is owned by Burma Love group. The night a companion and I went to Teakwood, it was pouring rain, yet once inside we were transported to Southeast Asia - a cosy space. There is a beautiful bar opposite the entrance that was filled with happy customers. Big windows along Grove & Gough Streets, let in natural light. I asked to be seated in the better lit main dining room. What did we eat? We wanted a few light dishes. The waiter was very nice and didn't rush us or press us to order more. We started with a calamari appetizer dish which was delicious albeit a little spicy for me. The portion was small. For some meat, we wanted to try the chicken satay skewers. I was intrigued by the finely chopped veg - a sort of pickle de gallo. The last course, we ordered the Burmese national dish: Mohinga Rice Noodle. Wonderful soup - full of flavor from the spices used. The noodles, however, were too soft being overcooked that you didn't need teeth to eat them. These three dishes made us satisfied since we're not big eaters (we don't want to sleep through our post meal entertainment). Overall, Teakwood is a very trendy restaurant in the hip Hayes Valley neighborhood. It's different from the other neighborhood eateries (Italian, French, European or Japanese). Burmese restaurants can get pretty pricey - due to the rare ingredients. But for these unique flavors we were happy to pay $$$! Will I be returning to Teakwood? You bet. I have to try some of the other wonderful dishes on the menu &, maybe, a cocktail too!

My daughter had her civil wedding at City Hall and chose this place for her reception. Two friends sent us complimentary champagnes to celebrate the occasion. The Platha with peanut sauce was divine. The ginger salad was too strong for me. The chicken satay was too tough. The coconut chicken curry was good. Less chicken, a lot of curry which I don't mind because I love curry. Superstar fried rice. $29? I can't recall how it tasted. Eggplant with garlic sauce, ok. Garlic noodles with fried tofu, yum. Lemongrass steak, delish. We got there on time to make 3 happy hour prices. Staff was graceful and helpful. Lovely service. Overall, the food was just so-so for me. But it was a beautiful reception which was the most important thing.

We came for Saturday lunch and there was lots of seating. Nice restaurant setting and fast service but food was disappointing for the price. We ordered the duck curry and pork belly rice bowl dishes. Unfortunately the duck rice bowl only came with a few pieces of slightly over cooked duck. The braised pork belly was tender and fatty - the first few bites were really good but it had so much sauce that it was hard to finish

Highlights were definitely the coconut chicken curry and fiery tofu! I couldn't stop eating the tofu it was sooo yum :) Garlic noodles were good but portion size was a little smaller than expected. They had 50% of drinks for happy hour when we went so it went from $18 to $9 which was worth it. The vibes are on the nicer side so perfect for a birthday dinner or date night :)

We ordered the samosas, coconut chicken curry, the short rib Khao soi, garlic noodles, and Bok choy, and I will say everything we ordered had an excellent flavor. I would say for me personally the coconut rice side for curry was too sweet and some dishes too salty. Everything was very tasty and our group enjoyed every dish but I will say the protein portions within the dishes are minimal for family style. Otherwise I would say 5 stars! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Teakwood is in a great spot right in Hayes Valley which is super convenient if you're catching a show nearby. The space itself is beautiful and has a nice atmosphere, but it definitely feels like you're paying more for the vibe and location than the food. The dishes looked great but were a bit lacking in flavor for me. I actually enjoyed the cocktails more than the meal. Would skip the tea leaf salad (it tastes pretty different from the ones at other Burma Love locations) and the short rib khao soi. The garlic noodles are probably a better bet.

Made a reservation on their website the same day for a group of 4 without a problem. There is street parking or you can park in a parking garage across the street from the restaurant; but since it's such a busy area, I would advise one take public transportation or rideshare. The interior looks clean and modern, yet still cozy. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes and beverages. Service was great, no complaints. This would be a good spot for a date night or small group gathering. I will definitely come back another time

Came back a few times with colleagues and also by myself. One time for a lunch meeting we shared more dishes. Food is better. Really like the lemongrass steak. Service continues to be great even when there was only one server one time. He was apologetic but took care of us/me. Nice addition to Hayes Valley.

Is there outdoor dining or is it dog friendly?

I didn't see outdoor dining. I don't know if they accept dogs. Need to call the restaurant for the dog policy directly.

    Is this restaurant baby/kid friendly?

Not really. It is posh with a great bar. I wouldn't bring my kids there.

It's been a while since the last time we've come to Burma Superstar, but we saw the restaurant week…read moremenu and decided it was about time to come back! This time it was a $90 set with 2 drinks, 2 servings of rice of your choice, a trio of their salads, and 2 entrees - honestly a great deal and I think the waitstaff mentioned it's about a $150 value, which I completely believe. Our party of 4 arrived around 8:15, and waited about 15 minutes to get seated - definitely try to join the ahead of time because they saved us! It's cozy, clean and well decorated inside, and though the tables are a little close you have plenty of space and it's not too loud for conversations. We got two sets of the $90 menu - which was probably a mistake since we were stuffed and had plenty of leftovers. Drinks: we got 4 different drinks - the mango Lassi, spiced sunset, nanda breeze and burma cooler. All of these were excellent, refreshing and great for balancing the strong flavors of the entrees! Rice: we always get the coconut rice, so this time we opted for 2 scoops of coconut rice and 2 scoops of the burmese fried rice - the fried rice was tasty but not as fragrant as the coconut rice so we'll probably stick to that in the future Salad trio: this included the iconic tea leaf salad, along with the pea shoot salad, and superstar noodle salad. The pea shoot salad was a surprising favorite, and I'd even consider getting that over the tea leaf salad in the future! The noodle salad was pretty filling but tasty - maybe good if you're not planning to get a bunch of entrees On to the entrees: these are all super flavorful, umami, and can get a little heavy if you don't balance it out with the rice and salads. We got the pazun kyaw (chili prawns), nga phel hin (a sort of fish patty in tomato curry sauce with fresh cucumber slices), chili lamb, and basil chili pork belly. The chili lamb was a standout - super tender, flavorful and our overall favorite. The basil chili pork belly is a close second, but a bit oilier and heavier. The nga phel hin was tasty but a little too heavy /salty - slightly helped by the cucumber but there were only 4 slices with the dish. The chili prawns had great flavor but unfortunately were a little overcooked. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Burma Superstar never fails to be a great place for a large, flavorful family style dinner. I'm glad we got to try multiple new things from the menu through the restaurant week offer, and I'll be able to switch up my typical order in the future based on what we tried this time!

I would highly highly recommend everything we ordered, besides the Garlic Noodles which were just alright. The Platha & Dip! Amazing appetizer oh god. We ate it immediately and had to order two more for the table. The platha is so well made and the dip is so delicious. Must get!! Salads are usually so unremarkable, but I'm still thinking about the Tea Leaf Salad even a week later. I never remember a salad I've eaten but this is such a great salad. Must get!! Don't get me wrong, they were pretty good, but just fell short in comparison to all the other amazing dishes we had! Also very flavorful and great texture. We were a party of six so we got a reservation beforehand. Service was great, everything was great. We had good service. It was a weekday lunch so not too busy. Our server was very personable and nice. We got our food on time, and it was really pretty. The food itself unfortunately did not have a wow factor. It was ok but not something I would personally get again or go out of my way to get. I came with a friend and I got the lamb kebat lunch special. She got the lamb curry lunch special. The lamb kebat was seasoned good but it felt slightly oily and not as savory as I expected. The lamb itself was a bit gummy and I did not like the texture. The coconut rice was AMAZING! It had a deep coconut flavor that I loved and it went well with the kebat. The tea salad was good but not something I would get again. I'm surprised that this is their most popular item. Maybe I'm not a salad guy. The dressing itself just felt like oil so the salad felt a little oily. Interestingly enough, I happened to have some hot honey from Outta sight pizza and decided to drizzle some over the salad to see how it would taste. It ended up being much more palatable and I finished the salad. Perhaps it would benefit from having some sweetness to enhance the meal. Overall it was an ok experience. Like I said, I would not go out of my way to come back and if someone suggested this place to me, I would hope to try somewhere else. Maybe I chose the wrong items but I'm not too keen on exploring anything else.
