I had the soft shrimp chow mein, I loved the garlicky sauce with bits of green onion and cabbage in there, it was an exquisite melody of flavors. This is such a great little restaurant. This is only the second time I have been here but I have been very impressed so far. The service is great the people are so friendly. We had the crab crowns and they were done perfect, very warm, but not mouth blistering, and yummy. Then we had the Chicken Hawaiian, which we shared, it came out in a half pineapple and was heaping full. There was quite a lot of meat and the shrimp was a decent size and cooked perfect. Best Chinese in Tucson IMHO. House Special Beef is my favorite. It's spicy, breaded with a BBQ-style sauce. A bit crunchy, zero fat or gristle, perfect. Service this trip was very good, always there when we needed something and invisible otherwise. Lunch specials are plenty for the biggest appetite. Pretty sizable main course of your choice from the lunch menu, twice the amount of white or fried rice that you need, soup, and egg roll. We had left-overs...from lunch! read more

My mom and i ordered some beef and broccoli and plain noodles, in the beef and broccoli there were 4 long straight black hairs in our beef and broccoli. Each hair was at least 3 inches long. My mom and i had split the food and put it on two plates. There was 3 hairs in my moms portion and one in mine. My moms hair is light brown and mine is really curly so we know it wasnt either of ours. We threw the food in the garbage off of the plates and called and asked for a solution to the problem. They offered us a refund but said we would have to give the driver the food back according to their policy. We explained to the employee on the phone that we could not give the driver the food because it was in the trash and the employee basically told us to take it out of the trash and that the driver would be over soon. When the driver arrived we explained that the food was in the trash and we could not retrieve it, he could retrieve it if he wanted to but he didnt. Now they are saying that we can never order from them agian. So just be warned you can get blacklisted even if they put hair in your food. read more

Last time I was here there was a piece of plastic wrapper about the length of my index finger in my food. They did correct the problem without hesitation but it left a bad taste in my mouth. The food was average at best. I am in no hurry to go back and try it again. read more

I wanted Chinese delivery the other day and a friend had been suggesting this place so I finally called in and ordered the Mongolian Beef with fried rice and crab puffs, the person on the phone was courteous, and my food was delivered in less than 20 minutes (i'm located on the edge of their delivery map). Great restaurant! Nice ambiance inside with beautiful artwork on the walls. The service is good and the food is delicious. The prices aren't crazy and their menu is huge with all kinds of selections available. I really like this place for Chinese food and have frequented it often. The only negative for me is their location (but that's something that can't really be helped and I'm not holding it against them). If you are a regular at this restaurant either for dine in or to go you will know who im talking about. Let me start off by saying that the food is pretty good at Mandarin Grill. My girlfriend ordered the lemon chicken with hot and sour soup and I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with egg flower soup. The egg flower soup was definitely not up to par, it tasted like instant soup with some egg in it. It was also very thin and lacked almost any flavor. The chicken was good, I was charged $1.50 extra to have chicken that wasn't breaded because of an allergy. That didn't seem to make sense to me, but oh well. The lemon chicken was pretty good, the hot and sour soup was not that spicy. The reason why this place is getting two stars is because of its service. The girl who took my order was incredibly rude and condescending. She gave me attitude every step of the way whenever I asked questions. She also immediately told me that they couldn't make the sweet and sour chicken without breading. After a few seconds of me telling her that was weird, she begrudgingly went to ask someone else. A charge for chicken that isn't breaded? That's strange. We had them deliver our food and even though it arrived quickly, they gave us the wrong soups. When we called back and corrected them, they said to have the incorrect soup ready because they would be taking it back. Gross! A few friends of ours have confirmed that the service was the exact same way with them. If they changed the service, they would be a fantastic restaurant. read more

I (use to) order soup from this place all the time. It's a little more expensive than other places, but i considered it worth it cause it's usually ready in 10 min for pickup. They don't cook everything fresh. I got day old soup today. If i'm paying 10 bucks for a thing of soup, i don't want it to be day old and mostly water chestnuts. Yes, usually the soup is fresh, but if you have to wonder bout how fresh your food is, then it's not a good place to visit. I've ordered the lunch specials a couple times. Average quality, but a good quantity. Nothing really amazing. DO NOT get delivery unless you're willing to wait 45+ minutes. I live within a mile, and it takes this long every time. Take out takes 10-15 min to be ready. Honestly, after how horrible the soup was today, i won't be going back again. It was luke warm, mostly water chestnuts. The veggies that were in there were soggy and not the usual color or crispyness. When i first opened it, the broth wasn't even filled to the top either. Very disappointing. Everyone has usually been friendly from here, and it looked clean every time i got take out at least. read more

I am a former restaurant owner myself and have been frequenting Mandarin Grill for over 20 years. Mandarin Grill is located at 1st & Grant. I live near Tanque Verde & Sabino Canyon. I pass several other Chinese Restaurants on my way. PASS is the operative word here. I have tried many of the Chinese restaurants in town and keep going back to Mandarin Grill. When we moved to the east side of Tucson, I was HORRIFIED by the terrible food found at the east side Chinese food. I honestly drive over 30 minutes now whenever I want chinese food now, which is terrible because I dont go nearly as often any more. For under $10, and most of the time under $8, you get a full sized entree, large helping of steamed or fried rice, choice of soup, and an egg roll or wonton. It is hard to find a place that has lunch specials without going as far south as Speedway or Broadway. All of Mandarin Grill's lunch specials are under $6. If you are a person that loves steamed white rice, you should come here. I find that the chicken here are a little saucy. Either way, I recommend the pot stickers. The potstickers are humongous and super doughy, but they come with a slight chili soy vinegar that I love. This place is quick when it comes to takeout - order is ready in about 10 minutes. I stop in at least 2-3 times a year. Haven't had any issues as of yet. On 5/19/2017. I had the Sesame Chicken and Beef Fried Rice. My Fiance has General Tso Chicken. Sesame Chicken was very good. White meat with just enough sweet and spice. Fried rice had more flavor than other places I've been. General Tso's Chicken was good but had more breading than what was needed. According to the menu, the house specialty beef is "hot and spicy". Actually, this is a sweet dish, with very little heat to it. I encourage the management to either change the wording on the menu, or to change the dish so that it is in fact a spicy and not sweet. I went here today because the guys in the bird food store were eating this for lunch and it looked good. They were having War Wonton with spicy broth and Spicy Chicken Egg Rolls. I added an order of Barbecued Ribs. Ok, so first the soup; it was very good. The broth was nice and the array of fixins was nice. Until I got to the bottom my last 2 spoonfuls were spent pulling chicken cartilage out of my mouth. This is especially nasty with a soup because you eat it with a spoon and the expectation is that everything in there is safe to eat. It ended up being disgusting. Try better knife skills. The spicy chicken egg rolls were nice and crispy, the filling was even still crunchy but, aside from being spicy they were completely bland. The ribs were horrendous. They were basically jerky. well I have been dining here for 17yrs...between this location and the other brothers location, on the NW side of TUC...and what can i say ;( I called the Grant location to place a lunch order, clearly before the 3pm cut off time, and was not in range of lunch time specials, according to Host-cashier, who was manning the phone today...who answered the phone to take an order and just said "hello!".... like I just called her house phone and inconvenienced her, as if she had to answer the phone, dripping wet, from the shower, on the downstairs phone ,....(LOL sorry for such a descriptive creative comparison) so after I was thrown off by the wonderful way the woman said "hello!".... I inquired about the lunch special... it was 2:50 p.m. and she said no once the computer hit the time she can't do anything about it which is false because I've actually worked at said restaurant, and it can be fixed and then she could not understand anything I was saying clearly over a house telephone I was calling from, a landline, not a cellular, and she could not retain my order information... I only had to repeat myself about three and a half times...so yeah... someone definitely needs to be trained on proper phone etiquette for incoming orders. On a plus note, my food arrived quite quickly and portion size was ok and like always the quality was very well and consistent, with how their food always has tasted in the 17 years of dining there. If the food had been lagging, or if the delivery time was not up to par, I would have gone with a -1 on my review, solely because the first person that I made contact with, began with point of contact at a very LOW & unprofessional, unacceptable manner! read more

As I attend the gem show each year I am in the city many nights and we happened upon this place with a number of cars in the parking lot. We thought this might be a good sign. The place is on the N side of Grant in its own building. Really no esthetics to speak of here. Most people were eating some deep fried meat coated with some sweet looking sauce. I see this at most Chinese joints and don't know what the appeal is with this dish. Not a good sign if you are looking for something unique. Anyway, with that I realized it was going to be an average meal, so suck it up and try to find something. There was one unusual thing and that was the Mongolian lamb, so we ordered that and a plate of house lo mein. The plates arrived and were HUGE! The lamb was like the usual beef Mongolian style, but way too sweet for my buds. The lo mein was also sweet, but did have a very generous portion of meats and shrimp. Check was $30 which would have been fine if the meal was more edible because the overwhelming sweetness did not allow the completion of ones plate. read more
