Have been a fan of Mandarin Hide for a while and wanted to try out this sister restaurant. Visited in a Sunday night so it was not busy and bar seating as well as tables and booths were available for inside and out. Bartenders were very friendly and hospitable willing to work with an special requests and questions that me and my gf had for drinks. They were not snobby or rude, very attentive and checked many times to see if we were doing okay. The vibe here is very relaxed and chill yet modern and hip. It's very different compared to other cocktail bars in Tampa but is a very nice change of pace. The presentation of drinks here and garnishes are on point here from the many variations of rose to the dehydrated fruit to the Rose and bamboo patterned straws. I absolutely loved all the different garnishes and presentation of their cocktails. However, the drinks were not terrible but not exactly anything that was bursting with flavor or that you could even taste any alcohol in. I later learned after asking what their pour was that they batch all cocktail meaning they mix liquor, liqueurs, and syrups ahead of time and then pour from the mixture only shaking in citrus juice or herbs instead of making it all from scratch. I understand how this can prevent overpouring and lead to more consistency in drinks and is more efficient for time in preparing cocktails but I just think that you should be able to know exactly how much alcohol is being added to each drink if asked the question especially when you're paying $12+ for a drink. There was only one drink that the bartender mentioned was not batched. I also did not see the use of any fresh fruit in the cocktails. I did love the assortment of all their garnishes and creativity in those garnishes. I just felt as though some flavor was lacking in the body of the drink and in the flavor of the individual liquor coming through with the preparation. We tried 7 drinks at the bar as I wanted to get a feel for their menu and the way they craft their drinks. My favorites were the Bergamot Spritz and the Flamingo Fizz. They balanced the Aperol in the Flamingo Fizz and the Blood Money very nicely to where you don't taste the Aperol. The Texas rose I changed up a bit with substituting Gin for Tequila as I don't like tequila. The Bergamot Spritz was a beautifully, aesthetically appealing herbally Sprite. It was a nice flavor profile and very tasty and refreshing. The Pistachio Mai Tai was a very specific flavor profile. Definitely a tiki drink with a strong flavor influence from the Apple Rum. Definitely one to stick with and only drink or to finish with because it will be a hard taste to get rid of, borderline a bit gross in the potent flavors that are apparent when drinking if you aren't a huge fan of tiki drinks or apple spiced things. However if you customize a drink or ask to create a drink, that will be made from scratch rather than the batched mix. The vibe was nice for a Sunday night to relax and just have a few drinks. The decor is very different but tasteful and fun. Overall, a nice different cocktail bar. Drinks are a bit pricy and I don't know how the vibe and level of service would change if it were a busy day and time versus when I visited. read more

The bar staff here, in my experience, have been consistently dry and inhospitable which has become the norm to me which I'm willing to look past. This is sad, but come on, let's be real...it is Tampa. So even though I try to stay away from from going out in the Bay Area, especially Tampa, Mandarin Heights is my preferred location to go to if I am meeting up with fellow Tampanians vs the many stuffy places that are so common in Tampa. However, my last visit was unlike any other bar experience. I'm used to having to wait a ridiculously long time to be served, but this went beyond that. I was finally able to order my two espresso martinis w/ tequila. To which the bartender says, "oh that's easy, haven't had anyone order that in a while." While I'm waiting, I witness the mess of what is the worst bartender behind a bar. Sprays me, unintentionally, but still, sprays me with the soda gun. I made sure he was aware of that fact that I was on the other end of that rouge spraying. So now I'm walking around with that sticky mess on me for the rest of the night. Then he drops some sort of glass on the floor making a dangerous mess behind the bar which then just seems to make him even more of a mess than he already was. He stumbles all over making two drinks for someone else which seems to take an eternity. I feel splashes on me, again, with some other liquid that I'm not sure what that one came from, but came from his direction. Comes back to me and has the audacity to ask if im still waiting. So I'm livid. He takes my order again. While he's making my drinks he spills them and hands them to me with the drinks dripping down the glasses and puddling on the bar so I'm cleaning the glasses as he's telling me it's been such a long night and he was supposed to go home hours ago and that he's not going to charge me for the drinks, or at least that's what I thought I heard and then he says open or closed? So he then says he's going to charge me just for a vodka. So I say sure, just close it. I take a sip of the espresso martini, which I've had my fair share of, at both locations, and it's soooo bitter. Not sure where he messed up but I couldn't drink it. So I told him I'm sorry but I can't drink this. With a pride-filled attitude, he asked what's wrong with it? And I said it tastes like shit. So he proceeded to ask oh so you don't like how we make our espresso martinis here at Mandarin? I responded letting him know I've had my fair share so I know exactly what they're supposed to taste like. And that was the end of my interaction with him because he turned to the next customer and made no effort to take responsibility and diffuse the situation. He asked for my feedback and couldn't handle it, which I'm not sure why ask if he wasn't ready for brutal honesty from a livid customer. I wonder what Bill would have to say about all this if he was sitting at the bar witnessing this hot mess. I got the attention of another bartender and I briefly let him know I needed a drink remade and he ask why? I said because it tastes like shit. He said, oh it tastes like shit huh? I said yes, that's what I said. So he remade it and that was that. No sympathy, no apology on behalf of the mess of a bartender that originally served me. Just to be clear on expectations because they seem to be unclear to the Mandarin Heights bar staff, no one goes to a bar to have an experience like that let alone to get excuses from the bartender as to why he is being such a hot mess. It's not my problem or anyone's problem. That's a personal problem. read more

One of my new favorite bars in town, in the booming Seminole Heights neighborhood. The bar certainly gives off the "hipster" vibe coupled with trendy. They have fairly good seating options including outside. The drinks are phenomenal and reasonably priced. The cocktail menu portrays true 'mixologist' creations. read more

The bar area is actually pretty small but the design is so cool with 360 degrees so the ladies can serve inside and outside areas efficiently. The signature cocktail menu is surprisingly long ~ 20 distinctly different options for everyone. I can't complain. It gets slammed during the weekend and i went on a wednesday it was moderately busy at 11p. The decor is sleek, modern but whimsical with flamingos. However, impossible to find parking and I stood in the bar for 35 minutes and couldn't order drinks for my party of 3. The bartender was more concerned with making 6 drinks for what appeared to be a food influencer than handling the rest of the clientele. I came here on a rainy day Sunday afternoon with my girlfriends and it was surprisingly packed for such awful weather. The bartenders were very nice and helpful with choosing drinks of our liking. The mixologists were very knowledgeable in crafty cocktails and made sure my friends and I were happy with our drinks. I would love to try this place out on a Friday evening or Saturday evening to get drinks before we start the night. Unfortunately we weren't able to enjoy the outdoor area since it was raining but the decour of the venue was shabby chic and great for pictures. They also sell craft beer here. read more

I was really excited to come to this place. I had seen a ton of pictures friends had posted of this super trendy bar in Seminole Heights and I couldn't wait to try it out myself. It's inside of the Bodega and had a cute entrance where you're instantly greeted by green grassy decor, flamingos, and a cute bath tub for the coolest photo ops with your friends. I went on a Friday night so it was very, very crowded. It was hard to maneuver through the place from how crowded it was. No person space whatsoever. I was okay with that. My real problem began when e tried to get a drink. It took us a whole 30 minutes to get one drink. We were sitting right up against the bar and there was no one in front of us. It took the bartender like 10 minutes to get the group next to us their round of beers. Then he finally took our order (I don't remember what we got but we got what he said was their most popular drink) and it took way longer than needed to make our two drinks. His motions were sloppy and slowly and halfway through making our drinks he made someone else's drinks and handed it to them as if he had forgotten about it and remembered while making ours. I'm usually super easy-going but it was pretty frustrating to watch. I didn't have a bad attitude or anything cause the bartender was probably exhausted from such a big crowd but then I realized why he was being so sloppy when I saw him sipping on his own alcoholic beverage. I'm all for bartenders getting drunk with their customers but not when it causes you triple the time to do one task! We finally got our drinks and they were delicious. We took some photos by the bath tub and finished our drinks and left right after. I'm not 100% turned off by Mandarin Heights and I will surely be back another day to give it another shot. I'm all about second chances! But my first experience was not the best. I hope they wow me next time! read more

A lovely little spot hidden in the heights. Creative cocktails like the Port of Buffalo and Lion's Tooth are reasons to trust and visit these bartenders. The port of Buffalo combines the bourbon-lovers Buffalo Trace perfection with the sweet balance of a delicate port and walnut bitters: the drink a home run for lovers of a unique old fashioned. The lions tooth is prepared with a bit of theatricality as the bartender takes a blowtorch to star anise before dropping it into a delightful honey-tea gin martini. The atmosphere is fun, the place is filled with flamingo-art, all with a great mix of island music and 90's music on certain nights. The biggest set-back is the speed of service due to the crowd and limited amount of space. All the same, the technique and choice of unique liquors is enough to keep me coming back. I hope to see their menu continue to change throughout the year and experiment in some more creative concoctions. I have yet to visit on a jazz Wednesday but am looking forward to the promise of those $6 old fashioned's and great local jazz. read more

We went here Saturday night, this place is a pretty small, trendy, hangout spot. They serve some fancy cocktail drinks which is a bit pricey but I guess you pay for presentation. I like the outside part of the bar, where you can actually talk to your friends and hear each other. But if you go inside, they play some hip music but it's so loud that you're yelling/screaming at each other and it does get packed. I'd try to go here again during the weekdays, maybe it'll be less crowded and noisy. read more

I was very excited to try this place since Mandarin Hide is one of my favorite bars. I was very disappointed for my first visit. Granted the place is still fairly new, so of course kinks have to be worked out but I was disappointed. It took 10-15minutes to get a drink and the bartenders don't make eye contact. The inside/outside concept bar is popular but this is the first one I've been to that lacks fans to help with the sweltering Florida humidity and heat. At one point our bartender who took our order walked from behind the bar and went outside and then started talking to a group of girls as we stood there confused what was happening. I think this place has great potential and I want to see it do well. The concept is a great idea, however they need to workout how to handle the weekend traffic. Hopefully my next visit will be better. read more

This was my first time visiting Mandarin Heights. I have been to Mandarin Hide in the past so I was excited for this new location much closer to me. The service was good. Our bartender was friendly and the service was quick. He even came up with a drink for me when I asked for something with tequila.. my bartender friends have told me how annoying request like this can be. We also had a few drinks off the menu that were pretty good. The decor is really great here. I love the 1970s Art Deco feel you get from the mirrored bar and I love the flamingos on the grass wall, especially the one wearing lightning gear. Of course we had to stop for a photo op in the tub. If there was any reason to not give a full five stars is the music. Now it was a Thursday night so maybe other nights are different but it felt like I was listening to a Drake album off of a cell phone. There was really no changing up the music AT ALL. Even a pandora playlist with a certain theme would have been a better choice to change up the music a bit more. I will definitely go back as I am happy to have a craft cocktail lounge in this area. read more

This place is gorgeous! Let me say that it is so instagrammable. It always has fresh flowers and just overall very clean. The bartenders are great also. The drinks are very good and everytime I've gone the blonde bartender with the short bob always makes my drinks and she kills it every single time. The reason why I'm giving this three stars is because I believe that a place can have great drinks and aesthetics but it's music creates the vibe and ambiance of the night. Every single time I've gone the music has been horrible. I know this is silly but it makes it a super boring place that's just way too overcrowded. I've given this place a chance THREE times and for whatever reason they just seem to not get the music part right, DJ or not. If you're drunk, sure it doesn't matter. Don't get me wrong, this place gets PACKED and there are lines to get in but you see people in and out because is not a place people really stay long time because it can be kind of a downer with waiting up to 30 minutes to get a drink, people EVERYWHERE and just not the greatest playlist to entertain you while you wait. read more

Have been meaning to try this place for some time now since we heard this was the same owners as Mandarin Hide in Saint Pete. They really do great work on designer bars as this place is just as beautiful as Mandarin Hide. Unfortunately that's where the similarities end. The service and quality of drinks is not the same. It took forever to even get noticed and the bar was half full. We saw some familiar drinks on the menu but wanted to try something new so had the bartender whip us up a couple off menu creations. One came out with fire which is always fun but we were unable to finish either drinks. We decided to play it safe and order the familiar drinks we love from across the bridge. Sadly, The espresso martini and lions tooth did not taste anything like we were used to and we felt we struck out on this trip. Hopefully we just caught them on a bad day because we really wanted to love this place. I'm sure we will give it another chance sometime. read more
