I come to this establishment a fair amount with my coworkers. I, personally, have only ordered the shrimp or vegetarian dishes. So I can't really speak to the menu as a whole. With that qualifier aside, I have never been disappointed by them. Their portions are huge, their prices are very fair, they are happy to make substitutions and the service is very friendly. On New Year's Day, they were one of the only open places in town AND they let us order off of the less expensive lunch menu. That gets our vote right there! I ordered Prawns with Vegetables, but asked for a spicy sauce. They didn't skimp on prawns or fresh vegetables. The sauce could have been a tad spicier, but there was chili paste on the table to amend that. And how could our waitress know how spicy I mean when I say, "I'd like a spicier sauce."? The hot and sour soup was unique. It had a more clear broth than I'm used to seeing and a bit more vinegar and white pepper in its taste. Also, there was no discernible meat. All in all, I would have a mild preference for this one, over ones that I have had in other restaurants. I tried one bit of my coworker's crab puffs. I've never really 'gotten' the idea of crab puffs in Chinese restaurants. Cream cheese never struck me as a particularly Chinese ingredient. However, a lot of what is on the menu in American Chinese restaurants is fusion cuisine (as a past trip to China illustrated). And who am I to begrudge that? Anyways! the crab puff in question was hot and crispy. Other items ordered were the Mongolian Beef, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Garlic Chicken. The Garlic Chicken looked extra yummy to me, for the reasons my other coworker did not care for it: it was not deep fried and had a lot of vegetables. I will come here again. read more

Worst Chinese food I have ever had. Crab, cream cheese wantons were burnt, and had very little filling. Like maybe a 1/4 teaspoon of filling. The salt & pepper calimari was extremely rubbery. Best Chinese food I've had in years. Hands down. We ordered the generals chicken, the orange chicken, and the sesame chicken along with some of their barbecue pork fried rice. The steamed pork buns (which I had to stop at three) for appetizers. Everything is made fresh and each of the chickens had their own distinct flavor. Tell your friends please, we haven't had a gem like this in town in a long time. The family could not be more delightful, when I got there I sat down with him at a table as he took my order. This place was unexpectedly good! It looked empty at first but we felt very welcomed. The host turned on peaceful Chinese music and totally put us in a relaxing mood for lunch. I have been coming to this place off and on since it was called Lams Paradise Cafe and my brother worked there in high school. It's under new management so my husband and I decided to give it a try. The food is awesome, I had the mango fish and General chicken. The veggies are cooked perfectly and entrees were flavorful and light, not heavy or greasy like some other places. Worst egg rolls I ever tasted! Slow service, appetizers and soups came before our waters. The person I came with ordered orange fish and was served orange chicken. They offered to take the plate and get her the fish, wanted to take away the whole plate and she was hungry, so just ate the chow mein. I had a half hour to spare for lunch. I found this place on Yelp and decided to check it out. Not too many joints out in Patterson, so I figured this would make do. As I arrived and entered through the front door, the place was completely baron of people. No customers, no service... not even that nice elevator waiting music to soothe the discomfort. After a few minutes, a man appeared from the kitchen. He was very polite and eager to help. He rushed over to the counter, apologizing the inconvenience of those lost few minutes. I was feeling rushed at this point and all I wanted were a few fluffy dumplings for lunch. With haste I belched the command of dumplings... unfortunately, my poor communications skills combined with the broken understand of my host left me unsure if my order would be realized. After a few minutes, the host rushed over to the kitchen, screams a my order to whoever The hell is in the back, and a few minutes later "ding" my order ready. I was gladly surprised by the speed and tipped them well on my way out. As I arrived back on job-site... I discovered my order was completely wrong, yet complete yummy and the encounter left me humble. I will return and get my dumplings because the food is delicious. read more

On September 24, my daughters and I had a late lunch at Mandarin House in Patterson. Everything seemed clean and in good order. We were greeted quickly with a smile and asked to take any table we'd like. It was well after the usual lunch hour so we were the only customers at that time, causing me some concern that the food might not be good. That fear was quickly set to rest when I tasted the delicious Won Ton soup. Our lunch, consisting of six different menu items, was all fresh and flavorful. The Orange Chicken was especially good. The Moo Shu Pork was great and served with plenty of extra plum sauce. The entire meal was so good, but in an effort to be objective I offer one harsh critique of the Sweet and Sour Pork. While not inferior if compared to Sweet and Sour Pork in general, it was less tasty than expected. The staff was very attentive, refilling water often and making sure we always had everything we needed. They even offered us each a small bowl of dessert at the end of our meal. This gesture certainly added to my overall feeling that the owners and the staff enjoy creating an inviting, comfortable atmosphere for their customers to enjoy their carefully prepared meals. My daughter and her family are new to Patterson, so I hope to enjoy the food at Mandarin House again and again. read more
