What happened to Mandina's??? I've been a Mandina's fan since the early 1970s. The location on Canal was awesome. The food today at the Mandeville location was way off. My Seafood Eggplant with Pasta was beyond gross. It was served with cold crab meat on top, not cooked inside the dish. The crab smelled disgusting. The eggplant was pasty and contained a ton of chopped ham and only two tiny shrimp. The pasta with tomato sauce was bland. I ate a few bites and pushed it aside. My waitress was aware that I did not like the dish but she did not ask what was wrong or offer to bring another. I paid and left hungry. I will never return to this location or the one on Canal. Service was poor. I had also ordered a cup of gumbo which the waitress forgot to bring. read more

Horrible...just horrible. To start, we ordered the Trout and Catfish Almondine and received catfish and trout meuniere. The sauce was basically the roast beef gravy. I'm not a big fan of my fish tasting like beef, but then again, it did help cover up the bad taste of the fish. Wasn't fresh at all. The fries (the only choice of sides), came out of the freezer. The Mandina's on the Northshore does not compare to the Mandina's on Canal Street. My love for the Southshore location had me wanting to Mandina's on the Northshore to meet their expectations. I have eaten here approximately 5 or 6 times and not impressed. Dining on the Northshore has so many fantastic restaurants with the same dishes and their food is mediocre. The fried chicken has small pieces and mostly skin and batter. Several other dishes that I have tried can be much approved on and the service is below par for the price you are paying. read more

Always have enjoyed the original in Mid-City and frequent the Mandeville location. Great restaurant for Sunday afternoon with the family or NOLA comfort food anytime. We often get the Italian dishes like Eggplant Parmesan, Spaghetti with Italian Sausage or Veal Piccata. Fried Trout or Trout Amandine are very good. Oyster and Artichoke or Turtle Soup are worth trying. You can't go wrong with the 1/2 Fried Chicken. Can get loud and very crowded. Service can be spotty at peak times. read more

I called the restaurant to make sure I wasn't accidentally jipped, and they said that's the normal order. Here's the bottom line: this is a great little lunch spot that, in spite of the fact that it Resides in a strip mall that has all of the architectural appeal of a storage unit, Still manages to pull off a nice atmosphere transformation once you get past the front door. I was greeted immediately by a very friendly hostess and I elected to sit at the bar. Water and a menu showed up right away and a nice glass of Riesling soon thereafter. I was in a rush unfortunately and so I did not get to look through their extensive menu. Judging from what I received I would say that they are bound to have a number of nice menu selections worth exploring. I went for the standard red beans and rice with the not so standard Italian sausage which was blackened a little and supplied all the necessary seasoning for the rest of the dish. There is no telling how many servings of red beans and rice I have had in my lifetime but it is substantial. And so, for me, you either get it right or you don't. This place got it right. As good as it was my big Takeaway today was the French bread that came with the dish. The success of French bread is all about the bread and the baker that supplies it. This was an absolute homerun and I could've made a meal of that all by itself. It was fresh and light and seasoned and buttered just right. I would literally come back here just for the bread.Do yourself a favor and check that spot out and don't let its location put you off. You will be glad you made the trip! read more

Exelent! Food is amazing, but be prepared the portions are the right size not massive. The drinks are excellent! A little "hot" if you know what I mean, but I like my drink like that. We had a good server and the host that seated us was very nice. We will be coming back. read more

We must have showed up in the wrong day of the week. On a positive note, the martinins were good, and so was the wine. The daily special steaks were good too. Now the negatives of this visit 1. An a/c vent in the ceiling dripped on an elderly guest in our party the whole time we were seated. I'm talking a puddle was on the floor. 2. The women's restroom had 2 stalls "out of order". Last time I was here it was 1, now it's 2. Why haven't these been fixed?? 3. The turtle soup Arrived cold. The waitress took it an reheated it and brought it back. It was even worse and we could not eat it. 4. The catfish meunière was not cooked. The fish did not flake and had a funny texture so it got sent back. 5. The dessert special "white chocolate bread pudding" arrived and once it tried it the texture was like a rubber brick. It was dark, like almost black and I didn't see any white chocolate in it. I don't know what happened since I was there last BUT the food has gone down hill. I was with a party and noticed that the 3 different pasta dishes were heaped with pasta and sauce but VERY LITTLE meat. Really sad amount. One of my group order a filet. It was maybe an inch thick and sad. I had onion rings with shrimp. My first plate had over cooked or re-heated shrimp that were dried up. The 4 lousy onion rings were under cooked. They replaced my dinner which was a bit better but the portions were SMALL. I noticed there were only 2-3 other tables occupied the whole time we were there. That says a lot. There was absolutely no flavor to the spinach dip and my fiancé's side Mac n cheese looked like old velveeta out of a box that had been sitting out for a few hours not to mention it was served cold! We made a reservation for Father's Day for 1:00. We got there at 12:50 and were told there was a "mix up" and that a party that also had a reservation for 11:00 didn't get there until 12:00 so they were seated and now we didn't have a table and would have to wait for one to come available (possibly ab hour). Meanwhile, there was a table in the back of the restaurant set up with enough seats to fit out party. When we asked about the table we were told "that's for another reservation." They proceeded to tell us that a reservation doesn't guarantee you a table...if that rule applies to us then it also applies to the people who the table in the back of the restaurant is for. You gave our table to a party that WAS AN HOUR LATE and then wouldn't seat us at the available table when we showed up for a reservation we made days in advance and arrived on time for. Your hostess staff is extremely rude and needs a crash course in hospitality. Turns out the reason the party that was an hour late was an employees family and that's why they weren't made to wait after missing their reservation time. This is a place that my parents have given their business to regularly for years and unfortunately the way todays situation was handled was not a good first impression for the rest of our family. read more

Service was good on a Saturday at lunch time around 12:30. The menu has a lot to offer and our waiter was more than willing to answer all of our questions. The restaurant was almost empty. This was surprising on a weekend at lunch. The food was served promptly and at the right temperatures. There was nothing outstanding. However, there was nothing bad either. This was quite possibly my worst experience so far since moving to Louisiana 9 years ago! We made reservations a week in advance for a 17 top on Mother's day. When we arrived, there was no clean silverware to give the table, and the staff seemed unbothered by this. The drinks hit the table after 30 minutes, and the food took about an hour to hit the table. The staff did not pre-bus the table between apps and entrees, and while our server was polite enough, we had to repeatly ask for refills, extra napkins, ect. We were served bread to the table with no plates to put it on. It became clear to us, this was poor management, which was confirmed when any attemot to aprise the manager of the situation by a member of our party, who is a restaraunt manager himself, got brushed off. Completely unacceptable! I will never return, or recommend this place. If I wanted a bad experience, I could have stayed in Kenner, rather than drive 45 minutes to the Northshore to get treated poorly. read more

Sunday June 7, 2009 - it's evening and we're looking for a good place to eat. Someone suggests Madina's so we call around 6 to make sure they're open and they tell us to come on. About 45 minutes later we arrived. I was traveling with two other friends, one of which happens to be in a wheelchair. By the time we got to the door and opened it, we noticed a sign that showed a closing time of 7pm! We never even thought to ask when they were closing so we were turning around and preparing to leave when WADE met us and told us to come on in. We had our choice of any table as we were the only customers there and he was very gracious and gave us plenty of time to choose from the menu. I chose the grilled redfish w/new potatos and green beans and a lovely merlot to go with it. My friends also had fish but with additional sauces and such. The fish was perfectly cooked! It was seasoned just right and we each commented on how nice the staff was in seating us and serving us when you know they were all ready to go home! WADE even came out and offered coffee and dessert but we had to pass - the servings were just the right size to fill us up but not too large as to have to take half of it home! The price was right, the service was great and the food was excellent! You can't beat it. Thanks guys for making it a memorable experience for all of us!! read more

Ordered Fried trout platter, shrimp platter and kids burger. These plates came with fries. The fried trout tasted good as well as the fried shrimp. The kids burger had absolutely no flavor, almost as if they took a frozen patty and just placed it on a blacktop stove. The waitress didn't seem too server friendly. Our drinks were on Empty for awhile and I had to ask the Cook who delivered our food to refill our drinks. Entering into the men's restroom was a difficult experience. It must have been just cleaned because there was a very strong cleaner odor in the restroom, that made our eyes water entering. Reminded me of an odor when you mix the wrong cleaning solvents together and it gives off an ammonia gas odor. The waitress gave us the bill and overcharged for one of the dishes by several dollars. I assume they type in their own prices instead of it already being programmed into the computer. Overall, I rate this experience and restaurant a 2 star. read more

After my first time several years ago, this was my go-to for NOLA style food. Had a nice grilled fish with charred flavor, marks and everything. Service was a little weird. Waiter forgot bread, etc. I am the one of three in my familiy who insists on keeping the faith here. Anyway, fast forward 2 years and the grilled fish was more like steamed. The Creole sauce is just red gravy with stewed peppers and onions. Really more of a watery pasta sauce. Seasonings are sparse, red beans, potatoes and green beans are bland. More like comfort food with Sal 'n' Judy prices. Steak quality is cheap. I know they can be good, the presentation of the food is nice, but for us they are usually just okay. read more

This is the Mandeville location of the well-known Canal street restaurant. In a nut shell - basically the same menu. There appear to be a few more red-sauce Italian choices, but other that that same basic deal. But for some reason, this location isn't quite as good as the original. But, if you are looking for some classic New Orleans dishes - gumbo, red beans and rice, po-boys and the like-this is a pretty good choice. It won't knock your socks off but it is reliable. As this a "branch" location it lacks the charm of the original. But, unlike the original, they DO take credit cards! read more

There is something a little unsettling about eating in a large dining room with no other patrons, so take my review with a grain of salt. The food was descent, though not spectacular. Stopped by for lunch again on a recent trip home mid afternoon on a Saturday. The dining room was about a 1/3 full and most of the wait staff (4) seemed overly absent for all the tables. All of the customers looked annoyed and everything took longer than necessary. Additionally, their signature shrimp salad has changed, and not for the better.
