We sat in the back room which is soo cute. So glad we checked this place out! The calamari was soo good. It wasn't overly battered and fried, it was just perfect. And my pasta.. omg.. just try it. Well...normally the service is great, food is what you expected and the portions per price are equal. It gets its stars from the overall experience over the past year but it has cut corners the last two times I visited. Tonite I ordered to go, and it was super busy. I asked the nice girl at the front how long it would take and she said 15 minutes. I asked if she was sure about that because if that was the case I would wait for it rather than run to Whole Foods for dessert. She was sure it would be only 15 minutes. Being the son of a NY chef, I try something different and tonite I went with the chicken menchingo and a gluten free pizza. After 45 minute, I had to go to the kitchen counter and ask where my order was. It had been ready and was just sitting there. The bag with the bread was drenched in oil and putting a staple in the bag is the WORST idea ever. The oil caused the staple to fall into the bread and it ended up in my mouth. Come on. Who the heck thinks this is a good idea? (I will be following up with an update tomorrow) Also, the portion on the chicken and spaghetti were like kids portions. I brought this to the attention of a manager who agreed and then started to take my meal with the intent of throwing some more pasta in the same container. This is not acceptable either. I explained to her that unless she was going to cook an entirely new order for me, she shouldn't do this.) if she had offered, I would have appreciated given the fact it sat for a half hour on the kitchen counter) She was nice and said that it sounded like I managed restaurants before and I told her my culinary background taught me well. The reason why you, as a customer, never want them to make a correction after you have opened the meal is to protect EVERYONE else. Suppose I had a contagious illness. That manager, intending to save money on another container, was going to compromise everyone else's health. If she did that with my meal, I wondered if she had been so willing to do with other people's meals. The right thing to do is (a) simply offer to make a second portion and/of (b) make a second container. This is something Mandolas never would have done in the past. Finally, as for the Chicken. Yuck. The meat was overpowered with the cheese and salt, which combined with the time it spent waiting for it to get to me, made the chicken dry and hard to finish. All I received for my concern over the portion was more pasta, which the marinara sauce is just like that of any jar in a store. I never got more chicken either but it would have been a lost cause. The last time I came here the meal portion was small but the quality of service compensated and I do want to point out that the attention to customers is still worthy of another go around. read more

As my usual reviews are to help any vegan person or person dating a vegan help find a place to dine out to. This was my second time visiting and came in with my vegan boyfriend. We went in blindly as their menu doesn't share vegan options. While the options are limited, Rudy was awesome, so kind and very helpful pinpointing what we were able to order for him. There are quite a few pasta options. BF opted for the SPAGHETTINI ORTOLANO. Was simple but filled with veggies. The focaccia also does not have dairy/egg he was able to enjoy that with the seasoned olive oil they provide. Overall it was a great experience! Staff is always so friendly at this location. Hopefully they add more vegan options in the future. Or mgmt updates menus to annotate what can be made vegan (e.g sub cheese, etc) But we'll be back read more

We have been to Mandola's Italian on numerous occasions and more than one occasion. My go to is Pepperoni Pizza! So good with crispy crust and just the right amount of sauce and cheese. The pepperoni has a I've crispy taste and not spicy or greasy. The serve focaccia bread table side with olive oil but I like to add balsamic vinegar. Save room for the gelato as it is a 10! So many flavors and I usually get two flavors on a cone. So usually chocolate and a fruit flavor which they change up. On my last visit I got the strawberry and chocolate, 2 scoops on a cone. For Mothers Day my family and I decided to order from Mandolas Italian Kitchen. My husband placed the order online. He said that it listed pickup an hour after we placed the order. This was understandable because it was Mothers Day. I drove up, parked, and went inside. It was crowded and busy. I went up to the pickup sign and was greeted by a nice guy that found my order. I asked if I could get a piece of cake also and he retrieved it and boxed it up. I paid for the cake, grabbed the food and went home. For my meal I ordered some Bruschetta alla Checca, Garlic Bread , Garlic Fries, Fettachini Alfredo and added Grilled Chicken, and a slice of Italian Cream Cake. The Garlic Bread had a hint of Garlic, I really liked the Bruschetta alla Checca. It was very good with the Fettuccine Alfredo. The Garlic Fries were very tasty and a new favorite of mine. The Fettuccine Alfredo was okay. It could have used more sauce but the noodles were good and the chicken was tender. The Italian Cream Cake was yummy. The cake was moist and the cream was good. A perfect sweet for the end of my meal. Overall it's a decent place to order and pickup some food. The pickup time was long but it was Mothers Day. We come here about once a week because it is so convenient. I'm not a huge Italian food person but you can never go wrong with the OG girl dinner- half mista salad & Parmesan fries. My nanny kids are sort of picky but they love the buttered fettuccini noodles here. Every kids meal comes with a kids sized gelato and a drink. It's a great motivator for them to eat and go pick out what flavor they're going to get. There is a playground you can access if you go out the back entrance. It's not technically attached to the restaurant but it's behind the shops/restaurant and is a pretty nice sized playground. My kids love coming here and there is a couple of benches you can sit at and watch them. read more

Our food was great as always BUT the trouble started when me, my mom and my grandmother came in it was really, REALLY crowded. There were people making it impossible to get through the crowds to make matters worse we kept having to move multiple times for employees to get through the line to give the cake and drink samples. Anyways when we got up to order and the employee who had been difficult with us before was taking our order. He was questioning us about everything we ordered and making it difficult for us to get through what we wanted. Food is okay. This review is on the chaos inside. I was waiting in line and there was a big group not all paying together and I was smack in the middle of their group in line. numerous family members went in front of me and kept adding on to others orders at the cashier, which is out of my control. Then a man and woman went up and cut in front of me and an older woman that was next in line, in front of me. I told the cashier we were next he takes the older woman's order and then he let the couple still order before me knowing they weren't next. I have been in austin a month and I've been here 3-4 times the food isn't crazy good it's pricey but I was in the mood for Italian but after feeling like because I was by myself I wasn't valued as a customer I won't come back terrible customer service I want to eat like anyone else after a long day work. We are on vacation and decided to stop in for some Italian food, based on a friend's recommendation. We could not have been happier! Laid-back, casual atmosphere. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. I ordered the chicken Parmesan with a side of spaghetti with marinara. The pasta was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I used the Seed Oil Scout app and took a drive here to taste their food. We wasn't disappointed. I ordered the special of the day- Northern Italy lasagna with bruschetta. My wife got the noodles with meat plate. Hers was too aldente. My entree was fresh, but slightly mush. The staff was friendly and our order was fast. When you order grill chicken it should be chicken. When I checked my to go order at the restaurant. I saw what I thought was focaccia bread saying it out loud to the lady and thank you!Getting home no fococcia bread, always is complimentry with a meal order. Instead we were given a huge panini with slices of ham and french fries instead. With such disappointment our meal was ruined. My receipt clearly says Grilled chicken. How can you mess up an order like this!?! I had to also ask for the salad be put seperate out of the bag of hot food. And too ask where the Cake we order was. The restaurant was not that busy. There was a man at first, he left, then a lady manager was who put this order together. When I called she said she was confusrd with other workers talking. I go here all the time and was confident my order was precise. The sandwich was thrown out. We couldn't and didn't even try a bite by the way it looked to being processed ham of sorts when she told me over the phone it was pastrami. The Lasagna we ordered was okay, seemed old. Quick delicious Italian! What more could you want?! The interior of this restaurant is kinda funny. Think "Everything Italian" but make it kitchey!! Felt and tasted like an upgraded cicis pizza from a bad neighborhood. As a person that loves pizza it bums me out that all these italian restaurants are literally worse than what you would call the worst pizza which is little ceasars and pizza patron. Those places taste waaay better than this and they charge less than $10 for bigger and thicker pizzas! To think they charge $14+ for a thin pizza with basic ingredients. They actually charged me $3 extra for doing half sausage on my pizza and the rest was cheese when they literally have a whole pizza with sausage for $15. Not sure why they decided to charge me extra but that's the way it went. Maybe the lady that was taking my order pushed something she wasn't supposed to because while she was taking my order she was looking around me for whatever reason, i don't know, it was one of them weird interactions or not professional on her part. I also ordered spaghetti with meatballs and again basic ingredients with no flavor i almost wanted to take it back but i ate it anyways. Are they making these plates for kids? If it wasn't for their dessert area i would have gave this place a 2 star just to be nice. Those desserts were good, to bad i didn't notice that they had coffee or i would have skipped the soda and got a cup. Been going here for years. The food and service has always been wonderful. I recommend any of the specials and the frozen sangria is delicious. They lose stars however on the fact that you can no longer bring in a bday cake. Not sure why, but that's a new policy. Secondly, my brother was ordering from the Kid's menu for his kids and they made him go grab his kids to bring them to the register in order to order kids meals. Like who cares? Both new experiences for us. I get that things change but maybe add signage and allow for some warnings before being strict. read more

To be fair, Mandola's doesn't have the food sitting out buffet style and someone plating it for you. Not knocking it, it just reminded me of going to Luby's and standing in line to order your food. The line moves quite fast; ponder the menu while you wait inline and by the time you finish and decide what you'll have, you'll be at the counter. You place your order at the counter then go grab a seat. Their service is pretty speedy, as our side salad order was there in no time. The entrees came out before we got done with salads. The salad wasn't as fresh; felt it was made earlier in the day and refrigerated. Not saying it was bad, just not as fresh as freshly cut greens. We had thin spaghetti, one with shrimp one with 1 meatball. The shrimp were fresh and the meatball was a baseball sized and pretty tasty. The "sauce," in my humble opinion, lacked flavor. From the description of the ingredients, garlic, basil and olive oil, I'd expect a pretty tasty dish oozing garlic, basil and olive oil but all those flavors were lacking. Also, it seemed as when the pasta was cooked, it wasn't cooked in enough salt. IDK, maybe it's me and maybe I'm used how I cook my pasta and sauces. Either way, dish was good, just added a dash of salt and pepper. It has quite a steady number of patrons so it must be good and maybe I went on an off night. Today I had the Chicken Parmesan- and it's a big thumbs down. - rubber chicken (tasted pre-fab breaded , like from restaurant supply- frozen - NO Parmesan -with minimal marinara sauce baked on- with a RECTANGLE piece of cheese melted on top !!! I came here a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon since my mom had a gift card. I actually had a really delicious pizza here. It was good enough that I remember thinking it was better than most other mainstream pizza places, but not so good I would seek it out over my other go-to's (Mr. Gatti's, and Homeslice). The restaurant itself is large with lots of seating, so even though it was full we got a table, no problem. Mandola's has been open a long time - 20 years.. the food is good, but it used to be better. I was there for a birthday celebration and I love their chicken parmesan. This time it was not so good. It was thinner and dry and it didnt have the same love it used to have. I paired it with Alfredo, which was overcooked and really did not have much flavor. Had to repeat our order twice to the cashier. Think he was new. Not very familiar with the menu. We asked for our salad to be served prior to the meal. Salad arrived and less than 3 minutes main dish was served. Blackboard at front of restaurant, right before ordering, happy hour sign. Wine 9 oz $3.50. We were charged $7.00 per glass. Spoke with manager he stated it should be $3.50 off the original price. Well if the original price is $10.00 per glass then we should have been charged $6.50 not $7.00. Manager apologized stated I read the sign correctly $3.50 per glass and the sign should have indicated $3.50 off regular price. He stated would correct it to prevent it from happening again. The salted caramel chocolate cake alone gives it 5 stars. But all in all the food was AMAZING! Simple, yet flavorful. I like the whole set up how it's like a market and restaurant. Lived here for so long and yet this was my first time coming to a Mandola's! So you stand in line to order first, and then go sit down and they'll bring you your food. They start you off with free bread and olive oil which was honestly delicious. We ordered: 1. Garlic bread with mozz - not good. I wish they made it on their free bread, which is so soft and thick and foccacia like. But instead it comes on kind of a crostini style bread. 2. Pugliese pizza - really good portion for the price. Definitely tasty as well 3. Lunette pasta - this was good but nothing amazing for me personally. Will probably try another one next time. 4. Mandola's has the best lunch deals! This time I went with a salad and speciality pizza combo for $9. Casear Salad and Fiorentina Pizza. I liked the pizza, but I love a lot of sauce. Next time I will probably request extra marinara sauce on the pizza. My favorite part of eating at Mandola's is the bread and dipping oil that comes with all meals. THE BEST! Also discovered the desserts area this visit. They all looked so delicious, but I was way too full to try. Next time I'm gonna leave some room for tasty desserts! read more
