Mandola's has been a homemade food feel... a feeling my wife and I haven't had for a long time much less here in Tampa.

Mandola's is a nice place to meet friends. I love their margharita pizza but it's nice that they have daily specials. Tonight's special was braised ribs with mashed potatoes. For those of you who like to go light and skip the pasta, you can order grilled chicken with vegetables. So, something for everyone. My parties only complaint was the food is too salty. My husband's soup and the braised ribs just had too much salt. There is plenty of wait staff so meals are delivered promptly. If you want to eat outside with your dog, you have that option. And of course if you want dessert, the gelato bar is scrumptious. Manja! read more

This is the place customers order and pay for the food first , sit down, and they bring the order to the table. This system saves time. We enjoyed the focaccia with the dipping oil while we waited for our order. I had chicken parmesan. It was delicious. The price and portion was reasonable. Big open hall sitting area with open kitchen, I watched all the chefs busy cooking . The dessert and ice cream looked attractive but my stomach was full. Quick & fulfilling. This restaurant offers a different take on eating in and self-service. When you walk-in you'll head directly to their register and will be given a standing number along with your silverware and cups to self serve. You also pay before you sit, which is great if you like picking your own seats. Waiters then bring over your food and you enjoy your meal. Interesting concept and easy approach to self service, but it lacks the warmth of a restaurant. The location of menus was a bit confusing. As soon as you walk in you see the catering menus available in front of you, so people naturally gather there... confused. When you get closer to register menus are not at eye level or directly in front of you. Menus are located to the left side in a box (Might want to reconsider that one). Things I absolutely loved was being able to sit where I wanted and having a great view of the kitchen and being tempted by the gelato & coffee bar to the back of the restaurant. Bread was timely served and warm. The food was decent, not overpriced and reasonable for the servings. The pasta texture was precise and not over cooked, but the sauce left something to be desired. My sister, daughter and I went to Mandola's for dinner yesterday. It was the first time for all of us. We were immediately greeted by Brady, who, after determining it was our first time explained how it all worked. One in our party is vegetarian and one is gluten sensitive. Brady was extremely knowledgeable about both concerns and had recommendations, cautions, and substitutions from the antipasto to the desserts. My sister got the Pollo alla Griglia, she loved it and that's what I'll get next time it was beautiful. I got sausage and peppers, which I also enjoyed. My daughter got the alfredo. She liked, but didn't love it. We shared the seasoned fries. They were good. My daughter loved them with the sauce, I think I preferred them without it. After enjoying dinner my daughter and I went to look at the dessert options. Alicia let us try several different flavors of gelato. I got two almond cookies, which were recommended by Brady. They were delicious. My daughter got cheesecake to go and a gelato. While we were browsing and sampling, Izzy came over and chatted with my sister at the table, making sure all was well. When she realized it was our first time she hurried over to the dessert counter to make sure that Alicia knew that. Izzy and Alicia both got very happy and Alicia said first timers get free dessert! Even Brady come over smiling, joking with Alicia at how generous her serving portion was of my daughter's "small" gelato. She could not have stacked more in and on that cup. This is definitely a do-over for us. The prices were reasonable and the staff was excellent. Even the staff that we didn't engage with seemed genuinely happy to be there. The group ordered a range of items...from sausage and peppers, pizza, meatball sub, fettuccine Alfredo, baked ziti, spaghetti and meatballs, and a couple of other dishes I can't remember. To start, mista salad was ok, I was shocked the dressing wasn't more flavourful. The foccaia came out was four pieces...there were 6 of us out of the party of ten who were seated. I didn't get a try on the first go round. It took them bringing bread enough for the table of ten two times. I get it it was Sunday after church on Dale Mabry. I had the lasagna. I really was craving some lasagna. It was good. 3.5/5. You can definitely tell it's a chain. Not sure if I would try again. Kinda on the fence. But try for yourselves. Good luck! read more

We loved our experience. It is counter service but they serve beer & wine too. The cashier was nice & helpful in making our decision. The food came out fairly quickly & was hot. The lasagna was delicious, pizza awesome, kids liked their Alfredo & spaghetti/meatball. The best is the herbs for the olive oil to dip the focaccia in--it is exactly like Carrabba's and is complimentary. It's convenient too that they have olive oil carafes, pepper flakes & parm, and take out containers self serve. I haven't tried the bakery so this is solely based on customer service and the entree is received. Also this is based on the location in Oldsmar, didn't know there was another one in Tampa. First time going, walked it and didn't know what to do. No host or sign or anything. I had to google & look at other reviews to find out I had to walk to the back of the restaurant (past the bar with two workers talking) to put it an order. Also when you put in your order they give you a number on a stand so that the "server" knows where the dish goes. However once the server gave me my meal she took the stand and so when my friends order was ready we had to flag down the other server to get it. Ordered the veggie panini and was surprised to receive it on a multi-grain bread instead of a sourdough bread. It was super soggy, not different of texture. Then the "doggy bag" containers were right next to the soda fountain, so basically the "servers" just bring you the food and take away your plates. Not sure if restaurant is the right name for it. Next time I'll try the bakery/gelato and see if that's worth another visit. read more

It was not the food that did it it was the absolutely rude hostile argumentative table hostess . We were the 8/26 around 6 pm. I have never been so embarrassed or disrespected. Excitedly we brought my MIL here she was visiting from out of town. We thought a nice family Italian dinner. I arrived with my children at my side and found a table large enough for us it was dirty so I waited by it until it could be cleaned . No other family in sight waiting for this table. The table hostess starts to clean the table I even even assist . She then starts to split the table . I say " excuse me but we're a party of 6 , 4 adults and 2 children. The table will be too small" Loud and brash she huffs " I have another family of 6 waiting " I look around and see none . I went along with this 5 minutes pass she seats a family of 4 not 6 at that table she split from ours. We all sit waiting it's tight my chair is butting up against another table and we are basically crammed into this little table which is really meant for maybe 4 or 5. My husband brings water the plates come and there is no room. The appetizer arrives I can't reach it because there's a ton of stuff . We are hitting one another with our elbows. No way when the food arrives is it going to fit. A larger round table opens up next to us there was a family of 6 seated there previously . We look around I try to wave down the table hostess to let her know. She's across the room, no response. We get up to start moving over, she is no where in sight . My husband starts to help clean the table . No other family waiting in sight . Another hostess starts to assist. She then proceeded to run over and begins to yell at us " no you can't sit there, no you can't move " this is in from of our kids she yells "this table is for another family of 6 " Again no one there waiting . She stops the other hostess from cleaning the table . I say we don't fit at that table . She yells "tables are given out based off of wait time for food" well our food was ordered ahead of this family that is no where in sight . She is Extremely argumentative yelling at me and my family to the point that other patrons notice and comment when she walked away. I look around and see large tables with 2-3 people seated there tables of 4 empty . So her whole thing about this table assignment criteria is absolutely nonsense. She targeted us. I tried reasoning with her and said i first had claimed a table big enough for us you then broke down the table to two smaller ones claiming it was for another family of 6 but you sat 4 at the other table when there were table available for parties of 4. She continues to yell at us you can't sit there. I have had enough at this point. I say enough is enough we do not fit at that table our food is ordered a bread of the other family that I don't see anywhere so no I am not cramming my family into a table we don't fit at. She stops the other hostess from cleaning the table . She then just stands there refusing to clean the table my husband starts clearing it my kids sit . Then she finally starts to clean the table but at the slowest rate ever. She does not assist getting another chair the other hostess assists. About 10 minutes go by our first table is clean she sits a family of 4 there . Where's the family of 5 she told me was waiting and that's why we couldn't have the table we are at. So on top of it all she's a absolute liar. How could I not think we were targeted. She lied to us about these families of 6 twice as so we couldn't have a table we fit at. A woman sits at a table next to us it's clean no one is anywhere waiting in sight. She proceeds to run over yells at her forcing her to get up and kick her out of the table . It's embarrassing to be kicked out of a table like you did something wrong. I was completely embarrassed when she yelled at us. I write a lot of reviews mostly good I try to see the positive in places but the way this woman treated me and my family prompted me to write this the day after. This place is suppose to be"family friendly" and this is who welcomes you to the restaurant not the first impression I would want to give. I feel bad writing this because she completely overshadowed all their hard work and efforts and great food we've had on our other visits. I won't return in fear that she will remember me and target us again. Decided to try this place after church. Looks like it can be part of a chain, but not sure. When we entered, we thought it was a sit-down restaurant, but found it was more in-between fast food and sit-down. You go up to a counter to order your food, and then staff delivers it to you. So we proceeded to the counter to order. They had the usual Italian favorites on the menu - pastas, pizzas, salads and sandwiches. We opted for the chicken parmesan ($16.50) and ordered a side of their garlic bread ($5) to accompany our meal. We proceeded to find a table and noticed the dessert case. So we walked over to take a peak. They had a case of different baked goods and a variety of gelato flavors. We didn't have the opportunity to order dessert on this visit and will have to return to try these out. Once we were seated, a staff member brought us a complementary basket of house foccacia with a dish of olive oil. Had I known we would be receiving this, I would not have ordered garlic bread. The foccacia was served hot and was a delicious surprise. Soon after our garlic bread arrived. Compared to the foccacia we were just brought, the garlic bread was very underwhelming and not worth the money spent. It was hard, dry and absent garlic flavor for garlic bread. The chicken parmesan followed. Upon arrival, it looked like a chicken breast that was split and pounded real thin. The sauce was sparsely spread on top and cheese topped the chicken. After taking the first bite, I found the chicken to be dry, chewy and very salty. My daughter and I barely ate it. The only redeeming part of the meal was the fetuccini alfredo and it was only ok. Would likely not return again for the food, especially given the money we spent, but we might return to try a dessert. read more

We went early as we were told that the line forms and be prepared for long waits, so we met at 5 o'clock. The staff was friendly, and informative mostly as one of the server/bus boys didn't know if they serve beer or not? The process is a little different as you order first, pay, get your own drinks, and find a table. Very large room, and we selected to sit off to the side by the windows for less noise. My meal was eggplant Parmesan, normal price at about $14 but even though it looked very nice and pretty it was like mush!, No salad included just a little bit of linguini with sauce was very bland. We were told the gelato and desserts are all made in house, which I did noticed numerous people and groups were coming just for the desserts, and they were awesome! read more

We entered the place was busy and decorated beautifully. To your right was the bar and you walk forward to Order. We looked at the menu and decided on an appetizer of fried mozzarella, chicken Parmesan and chicken piccata Both came with Fettuccine Alfredo on the side. We received a number to place on our table and a gentleman told us which tables were available to sit. There were only 2 tables left inside the restaurant. ( there were a few outside) there was also a line behind us. This Place was Busy. You can see the kitchen crew working with smiles on their faces but they are hurried and at a fast pace. The runners of food were on the move constantly. I will admit with that many people the place is bound to be a bit noisy. That was fine with me... lots of families and kids but a good mixture of college aged as well. They brought bread to the table that was sooooo Yummy it was crisp on the outside and fresh and soft on the inside. They brought our chicken meals which both of us thought were tasty and we really enjoyed it. It was a good size portion but I was hungry and was able to eat every bite. But we had to flag down a food runner because they forgot to bring our fried mozzarella. They apologized greatly and brought it as fast as they could and they were HOT! I don't know if it was because the hurried to bring it to us But the fried mozzarella was pooled in grease. I picked one up and the grease started running down my fingers. My husband laid them on a napkin to pull some of the grease out. The runners were quick to pick up any clear plates from our table. I will note... as we were sitting there. People with parties of 4 or lower could find a seat pretty easily. But if you had a larger party than that... you had to wait a bit. I saw a party of 15 tell the front staff their number and they did their best to snag tables close together as people got up to leave and reserve them for the party pushing 4 top tables together so the group could sit together. So the restaurant is accommodating but you may have to wait a bit. As we were leaving we walked passed the dessert and coffee counter. It looked amazing with the gelato, ricotta cheesecake and numerous cookie choices, and But we were just to full to give it a try. We will be back. I have to try the desserts!! " from Scratch kitchen" this place was not they don't make any pasta in house I saw the pulling dry pasta out of big name pasta company boxes and bags ! the calamari zucchini appitizer was soggy not crispy and left a lot to be desired! The chicken Parmesan tasted of old oil, it wasn't tender or juicy and to be honest I've had better from take out pizza joints and pasta with red sauce that came with it was just that box pasta with tomato sauce you would get on a kids menu and portion. The lasagna with a side of bolognese! Was soo salty I had 2 bites of the lasagna and I was done , and to charge $4 for 1oz of meat sauce on the side is crazy for how poor the quality was ,the pasta in the lasagna, was so thick it was hard to even cut, the sauce also had no flavor, nor did the plain straight out of the tub ricotta cheese slapped into the layers! I obviously wasn't the only displeased customer tonight, after 2 woman complained about there food being overcooked, veggies were mushy ! And the men in the kitchen cracking jokes about the limb egg plant was enough for me , your kitchen is open to the whole dinning room and people can read lips And sadly the Italian cream cake was crumbly, very stale tasting and the frosting was crunchy needless this was a waste of money! When you first walk in, you'll notice it's a open area concept- you order at the counter, wait for your food to be delivered, and then enjoy. It's a more casual place but the decor was pleasant with authentic Italian feel. I ordered To Go since i came within the last hour: Fettuccine Alfredo with added chicken, mushroom, and peas! Noodles were al dente but the chicken could have been cooked a little more it was lacking color...I also ordered the appetizer for mozzie sticks and they were delicious! The cheese pull was amazing! I love this place! Ok, it might be slightly over priced for Italian food, but it higher quality than Olive Garden! It is good quality food, with great bread, if you ask me I would judge any Italian place by its bread! It's very kid friendly because each kid meals comes with ice cream! It's a great way to bribe your kids to eat and behave. Also their bathroom has a fully stocked changing table, how nice! There are photo oops for the kids and even a kids table for them to eat ice cream at! The service is fantastic, and they make sure you are taken care of! Worst ever!! my husband and I have come here for at least 20 times. We've always had a wonderful experience, great food. However, this evening we went to have dinner. We always sit at the bar as we have found at the bar is easier to get seating at, the bartenders are always wonderful, services amazing. Not true for this evening. As soon as we walked in and sat down, the bartender was polite enough. But obviously aren't interested in providing any customer service. As my husband ordered my drink, she immediately said we don't do that. Even with a bottle of alcohol was sitting right there. He pointed it out, and she said oh well, we have this, and he said, well, that is Tito's. He asked for my drink. She then said oh we don't do that. Left to go consult someone and came back saying no we don't have any of that stuff. We've been here so many times I order the same drink my husband or the same one. This is one of my favorite places to go to eat out and my husband knows it. The food is tasty and the atmosphere is great. I have eaten here many times. However, tonight, my ticket was run up incorrectly. Unfortunately, I didn't notice it, until I was ready to leave. I told a waiter about it. She took the ticket to get it fixed. However, she gave it to a cook (?), who put it on the line like he was going to make another meal. I questioned her about it and got a "rude remark". She said "it will be taken care of, but not now, we are too busy". She did not say this sweetly, but with an attitude. My family waited and waited. I watched as they put my ticket aside and waited on a whole long line of new customers. Finally I went up to them to push the issue. They eventually fixed their mistake, which took all of 2 minutes. Really, to make a customer wait like that is not top notch service. Hey everyone can make a mistake, but it should be taken care of promptly, but if not promptly a little wait, but not a long wait like 20+ minutes, when the customer is ready to go. I felt like I was being punished for something I didn't even do. But I also was not going to pay for items, I didn't even order. Will I go back, yes, because everyone can make a mistake, but I think they should think about how they treat customers. Customer service is just important as the tastiness of the food. Ever since having tried this place out in Riverview for a Yelp Event, I was dying to come out to the one in Carrollwood since it's so much closer! This is a great, Italian eatery and bakery that is very no fuss and has a HUGE selection of offerings, so make sure you come here hungry! It's somewhat casual and higher end, as you don't have a hostess to seat you. You simply come up to the counter and order what you want at the appropriate station. For me, I ordered their ravioli stuffed with pork, beef, and mortadella (fancy bologna for the unversed, imported from Italy)! The dish has mushrooms, peas, and a delicious cream sauce that was hearty, but not too heavy. It was a blazing hot day outside, so I rejoiced when I saw they had gelato. Out of the large selection of gelato I saw on the display case, I picked out a small size of their Nutella gelato (I was getting kinda full from the pasta and wanted to save my appetite). Even the small size is a generous portion, with nice chunks of chocolate ganache blended right in. Of course, I was full, so I got their Italian cream cake slice to go. Great cake; chock full of nuts and coconut and cream cheese as the frosting. This cake is so big that it's practically a meal in and of itself, so do yourself a favor and take it home like I did to enjoy with a nice cup of coffee later on! You'll be glad you did. read more

The garlic fries are incredible. The chicken piccatta and the chicken Parmesan were delicious. The homemade lemonade is to die for.

Went there on a first date last night. And enjoyed the food and company. The service was so fast and enjoyable. I liked that it didn't take me that much time to have the food right in front of me. Had the fettuccine with prosciutto and mushrooms and peas and all of it was delicious. Yet me and my date were too full that we had to take some of it back home. Love that they have some songs that take me back to a happy place even though the songs are older than I was born. I also had a mimosa that reminded me of a wine with a sprig of basil. The basil was in top of the drink. I also had a cup of water so I wouldn't get drunk and I didn't want to get pulled over for being a drunk driver. I also like the atmosphere in the restaurant. I had visited the location in Clearwater and enjoyed it so I wanted to share it with my family. I always have the chicken and vegetable which I love. Since I'm not eating pasta right now I splurged on the mozzarella. This is some of the best mozzarella I've had. Bread was great also. My son and my MIL had pizza. Snagged a bite. We've been coming to Mandola's since they opened. Sadly it has become hard to enjoy a meal here. Last time and this time there is a cook that is throwing the f word around. Not only is that unprofessional but there are children here as well. On top of that, the same chef today was putting food into his mouth and eating without gloves, then turned to grab a block of what appeared to be cheese, he didn't wash his hands or put gloves on. Today there was a second cook cursing as well. If it were a closed concept kitchen, the language wouldn't be an issue however, it isn't. The manager was sitting with his apron on and eating with presumptively family and got up, not washing his hands and went into the kitchen with a baby. The food is ok. But the issue I have is the management staff. In particular, one manager. I did a takeout a while ago. When I got home, the food was cold. I live 2.8 miles away. I immediately brought it back. Not for a refund or replacement. Just to let them know. The managers first response to me was. "It was hot when it left here." I couldn't believe my ears. We went back and forth for a minute, and then I left. The next day, I spoke to one of the partners. He was aware of the situation. And said he had spoken to the manager. But my takeaway is that this is not the first time they have heard this about this person. I left feeling, at least I said my peace. I've been back a couple of times. Including taking my mom there when she was here for Christmas. But I guess you can tell that it still sits in my craw. read more
